The Today Show Officially Replaces Megyn Kelly With…

Megyn Kelly is out. And her replacements are officially in. On Monday morning, about three months after Megyn Kelly was fired for being naive, insensitive and also pretty darn racist, NBC went ahead and seemingly named her replacement. Indeed, Megyn Kelly Today is no more. Viewers should now prepare themselves for …  Dylan Dreyer, Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones And Craig Melvin Today ? Okay, the name may be a work in progress. But Dreyer wrote the following to her Twitter followers a few hours ago: Hope you don’t mind these faces! You’ll be seeing a lot of them at 9am. Please join us! #3rdhourtoday #youvegotafriendinus #letthegoodtimesroll @TODAYshow @SheinelleJones @craigmelvin @alroker. Aside from tagging her colleagues, Dreyer shared this photo of them along with her message: Roker, meanwhile, posted the same snapshot and simply wrote: “I love these guys.”  It is worth noting, however, that NBC is yet to officially announce anything. In fact, Jenna Bush Hager served as a co-host on the day Dreyer sent this message; and she has been a rumored replacement herself for Kelly. Kelly, for her part, never found footing – or an audience – on NBC. The network tried to act as if she was never a polarizing political pundit at Fox News prior to her hiring, shaving off all rough edges and re-introducing her as their own kind of harmless and fun Kelly Ripa. The makeover never worked. It actually failed miserably. But Kelly wasn’t shown the door until she ignited a controversy during a Halloween costume discussion in which she wondered why blackface was considered taboo . “You do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface for Halloween or a black person who puts on white face for Halloween,” Kelly said during a panel discussion that got way, awy away from her, adding erroneously: “Back when I was a kid, that was OK as long as you were dressed up as like a character.” She later wondered what makes something racist . Once she learned the history of how demeaning and flat-out racist the concept of blackface actually is (something she, a seasoned journalist, didn’t know beforehand?!?), Kelly issued an apology. “I was wrong and I am sorry,” she told viewers, continuing as follows: “Sometimes I talk and sometimes I listen and yesterday, I learned. “I learned that given the history of blackface being used in awful ways by racists in this country, it is not OK for that to be part of any costume, Halloween or otherwise.” But it was too little and too late. And she had already been too unpopular at NBC for executives to fight for her job. Kelly, of course, walked away with millions and millions (and millions!) of dollars, so no one is feeling to badly for her at the moment. Elsewhere, NBC is yet to announce a replacement for Kathie Lee Gifford, who will be leaving her seat alongside Hoda Kotb in April. “I have my idea of who might be absolutely wonderful, but there’s a great pool of talent and beauty and heart around here, right within our own family,” Kathie Lee said when confirming her departure . “And if they come from outside the family they will soon become family because you all treat everybody that way…” Gifford is exiting the program in a graceful manner. The same cannot be said for Kelly. Will you give the 9 a.m. hour of Today a shot again if the quartet listed above really are the ones to step into Megyn’s shoes? (As documented below, those shoes have so often been anti-African American.) View Slideshow: 11 Times Megyn Kelly Was Really Very Racist

Oops: ‘Today’ Show Ratings Are On The Rise Since Megyn Kelly Got The Boot

Photo by: Nathan Congleton/NBC/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images The Show Has Also Been Beating Out ‘GMA’ Ever since Megyn Kelly left NBC’s Today  show following her  blackface comments , it seems things have been looking up for the network. According to Variety , viewership for the 9 a.m. show by their key demographic is up around 10% since Kelly left. On top of all this, for the last three weeks, the overall audience for the first two hours of the NBC show has been larger than that of their rival — ABC’s Good Morning America.  Experts are attributing the larger audience to recent tragedies such as the Pittsburgh shooting . NBC canceled Megyn Kelly Today on October 26, just two days after she made comments diminishing the harm of blackface.  Despite Kelly’s show ending, sources say she is still negotiating terms with NBCUniversal for her departure. It’s not certain whether NBC’s rating surge will hold or fall back to more average levels. GMA usually beats them out as the biggest morning-news audience overall, although Today usually takes the lead in the group that matters more — the viewers between 25 and 54 who advertisers favor for news programming. In Kelly’s last week on air, Today  captured 675,000 viewers between 25 and 54, according to Nielsen and approximately 2.52 million viewers overall. Last week, the third hour of Today  gained 741,000 viewers between 25 and 54, and more than 2.63 million viewers overall, showing jumps of about 10% and 4%. Since Kelly’s show was canceled, Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie have become co-hosts of the Today show. They are currently the only all-female morning anchor team on national broadcast TV. Many people seem to be all about their presence, considering Barbie just revealed them as the latest addition to their “Sheroes” collection. According to the company, their “sheroes” dolls represent women who “break boundaries to inspire the next generation.” There’s no word if Megyn Kelly got the email to be apart of the “Sheroes” collection.

Megyn Kelly: Becoming a Host on The View?!

If you’ve ever watched  The View , you’ve obviously found yourself thinking “dumb opinions just aren’t represented enough on this show!” That may be about to change. Apparently ABC is looking at none other than disgraced  former  Today  host Megyn Kelly  to become a full-time host on  The View . RadarOnline   reports that Megyn Kelly might have a permanent seat at the table on  The View . “They want her as a full-time host,” a network insider reveals. Megyn would become another talking head on the all-female panel that includes Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, and Meghan McCain. “Execs are very hot on the idea,” the source shares. If you are of the opinion that one can never have enough blondes whose name is a variation on  Megan , then sure. Apparently, it is the network’s view that Megyn would bring a much-needed voice to the show. “They think she would be able to keep up with [co-host] Whoopi Goldberg,” and insider says. “And keep her in check.” Why does Whoopi need to be kept in check, exactly?  We don’t seem to recall her losing control and eating a guest’s face. But some at ABC are loving the idea. The source says: “They think it would be blockbuster to have her.” Sure, it is just as good of an idea as the concept of the Blockbuster chain of stores sounds in late 2018. It’s important to note that a rep for ABC flatly denied that they’re looking to bring Megyn Kelly over to  The View . But  RadarOnline ‘s source insists that they’re in the early stages of negotiations, but that Megyn’s eager to eventually join the show. So … we’re definitely treating this as an unconfirmed report. Speaking of negotations, she’s still  negotiating with NBC  to leave with all of the money they’d promised her. There was also talk about Megyn going back to her old network, FOX. “Once the non-compete clause is figured out,” the insider says.” The View  is most likely going to be one of the first places she appears on.” The source continues that she’ll appear “at least as a guest, at first.” Apparently, one thing that Megyn would like to talk about on television is how her latest gig ended. “Megyn likes the idea of having a real conversation and not a fake conversation about what happened at NBC,” the insider reveals. “She finally wants to say what execs told her,” the source continues. “They said if she apologized, they would have her back.” The insider adds: “She did apologize and they didn’t have her back.” Of course, maybe NBC executives didn’t realize how much damage she had done, or how intense the backlash would be. And maybe they realized that, if they didn’t end her reign now, she’d say something worse, later. “She asked for $10 million to sign a confidentiality agreement,” the source says. “But,” the insider continues. “NBC isn’t going to pay that.” The source explains: “So she’s saying, ‘okay, I’ll expose it all.'” That won’t endear her to her former employers, and what looks like legal blackmail won’t look great to future employers, either. But better blackmail than blackface, we guess. But seriously, how many blonde centrist-conservatives whose names are some permutation of Megan does  The View  need? Either there will be two of them, or Meghan McCain will leave the show only to be replaced by Megyn Kelly. Both of those scenarios sound awkward as hell. We hate to boil it down to hair color and names, but that’s something that execs should keep in mind. Also, since Megyn Kelly’s ratings on Today were described as “historic lows for NBC,” maybe she’s not exactly a ticket to success. View Slideshow: 11 Times Megyn Kelly Was Really Very Racist

Megyn Kelly: I’ll Spill All the Tea on NBC, Unless…

Megyn Kelly is off the air. But she is not yet out of the building. Not yet, at least. Not officially, that is. The embattled reported is no longer appearing on NBC, as we’re sure most of our readers know quite well by now. She has been relieved of her duties as host of Megyn Kelly Today after anchoring a segment about controversial Halloween costumes… … which somehow devolved into Kelly wondering why blackface is considered racist . Despite a written apology and an on-air apology the day after this segment aired, Kelly was essentially fired by NBC not long after her initial comments went public and severe backlash quickly followed. However, while Kelly has no job to attend to this morning, she is still technically a network employee. The star and her legal team continue to negotiate a buyout, with many sources indicating that Kelly will be paid about $38 million to walk away. This is the approximate amount remaining on her contract. Now, though, TMZ cites another obstacle on the path to the full dissolution of this partnership. Insiders tell the website that NBC wants Kelly to sign a confidentiality agreement. This is standard operating procedure for this sort of situation — and executives are especially afraid of what Kelly might tell the world after she parts ways because she was unafraid to air NBC’s dirty laundry even while working for the company. Remember: Kelly interviewed one of Matt Lauer’s alleged sexual assault victims last year. She has also admitted that she knows about all of Lauer’s skeletons , which likely means she also has dirt of some higher-ups who may have covered up for these skeletons over the years. It makes sense for NBC to try and make sure Kelly cannot spill such damaging tea to the world after she signs a new deal with Fox News or whomever. Kelly’s lawyer, meanwhile, says his client is happy to sign this sort of nondisclosure agreement. For an additional $10 million. It’s also worth noting that Kelly wrote a book, “Settle for More,” in which she targeted Fox News Channel; and she has been very critical of that cable network since her departure in 2016. It’s certainly not beneath her to attempt to damage NBC after she settles her employment with the organization. The Today Show, for its part, is trying to move on. On Monday, Al Roker, Hoda Kotb and Craig Melvin greeted viewers during Kelly’s former timeslot, with Kotb opening the hour by saying : Today, as you know, we are starting a new chapter in the third hour of our show as it evolves. We want you to know that the entire TODAY family will continue to bring you informative and important stories, just as we always have. That’s great and all. But why do we have a feeling that the book on Megyn Kelly and NBC has not yet totally closed? View Slideshow: 11 Times Megyn Kelly Was Really Very Racist

Today Show Starts "New Chapter," Kicks Megyn Kelly to the Curb

Megyn Kelly is out. And we now think we know just who is in. As previously detailed by The Hollwood Gossip and many other entertainment-related outlets, Megyn Kelly has been let go by NBC . While sources indicate that the disgraced anchor is still negotiating terms of her (HUGE!) buyout, one thing is very clear at this point: Kelly will not be seen on NBC again. This was made apparent at 9 a.m. EST on Monday when Al Roker, Hoda Kotb and Craig Melvin greeted viewers during the hour that had previously been reserved for Kelly — and which had even been titled Megyn Kelly Today . Said Kotb to kick off the program: “Today, as you know, we are starting a new chapter in the third hour of our show as it evolves. “We want you to know that the entire TODAY family will continue to bring you informative and important stories, just as we always have.” From there, Kotb and company delved into details about the horrific synagogue shooting that took place in Pittsburgh on Saturday, as well as other issues of national importance According to Variety, the plan for now is to replace Kelly with a cast of NBC regulars already on staff. Savannah Guthrie, Kotb, Roker and Melvin will all appear during this third hour of programming as the head desk; although it’s unclear at this time whether they will rotate on a consistent schedule or exactly how everything will play out. NBC, after all, hasn’t had a ton of time to figure this out. It was only a few days ago that Kelly defended the use of blackface for Halloween costumes, infamously asking her round table panelists on air: What is racist? She issued an apology in writing shortly afterward and then on air the next day. “One of the great parts of sitting in this chair each day is getting to discuss different points of view,” she said last week, adding: “Sometimes I talk and sometimes I listen, and yesterday I learned. “I learned that given the history of blackface being used in awful ways by racists in this country, it is not okay for that to be part of any costume, Halloween or otherwise… “I have never been a PC kind of person but I do understand the value in being sensitive to our history, particularly on race and ethnicity. “This past year has been so painful, for many people of color the country feels so divided and I have no wish to add to that pain and offense. I believe this is a time for more understanding, more love, more sensitivity and honor and I want to be part of that. “Thank you for listening and for helping me listen too.” However, Roker and other NBC employees did not feel as if this mea culpa was sufficient. Many viewers, meanwhile, pointed to Kelly’s past of insensitive racial comments and flooded NBC executives with phone calls and emails. The network then cut bait with the high profile star it brought on not even two years ago. To much fanfare and excitement at the time. Neither Kelly nor anyone on her team has commented on the firing since it seemingly became official last Friday. Meanwhille, Today correspondent Jenna Bush Hager took over hosting duties for the third hour on Monday, approximately 20 minutes in to the brodcast, which could mean that she will also become a permanent replacement for Kelly down the road. It all remains a little bit up in the air at the moment. But one thing remains very clear: Kelly will soon be providing commentary for some kind of conservative organization, criticizing those snowflakes on the Left for being too sensitive and politically correct. Megyn Kelly is Out at NBC, Will Be Replaced by … Kelly Clarkson?!?!

This week, Megyn Kelly finally realized that blackface is not okay. NBC finally realized that Megyn Kelly isn’t okay , either. But who will replace her? A stunning report says that NBC has already approached Kelly Clarkson to take on the role. According to numerous reports, Megyn Kelly met with NBC higher ups on Friday morning to negotiate her departure from the network. RadarOnline reports that NBC is eyeing a familiar, less controversial face to replace her: Kelly Clarkson. According to an insider, executives “think it might be perfect time to give her Today time slot to Kelly [Clarkson].” The source explains that she is a star “who has a huge fan base and is extremely well-liked and relatable.” And as an added bonus, they’re both blonde women with Kelly in their names, so maybe some viewers won’t even notice. One of Megyn’s reported troubles at the network wasn’t about bad ratings or a flagrant, tone-deaf defense of racism. It’s been said that she just hasn’t been getting along with the other big names at the network or really fitting in. In contrast, an insider says, the NBC crew “love” Kelly Clarkson. Kelly already “is a huge part of the NBC family,” a source says, because of her role as a judge on The Voice . This could mean that everything, from contract negotiations to her interactions with colleagues, could go more smoothly. Whether you think this is a good idea or a step in the wrong direction, it sounds like things are already in motion. An insider shares that NBC has already “approached” Kelly Clarkson about taking on this new role. (We should note that it’s possible that this person is misinformed, because of another upcoming project of hers, but we’ll get to that) She, an insider notes, is “willing to take on any job thrown her way.” Hey, we’re all out getting this bread. The stars are the same. There’s an obvious perk of hiring Kelly Clarkson. “Kelly is the most non-biased person on the planet,” an insider points out. Or, at the very least, she’s a nice person, the source notes, “and does not have an ounce of racism in her.” It’s true that Kelly is not really the type of person to slam people or drag their names through the mud. Off of the top of our heads, the only person we can think of whom she’s ever spoken ill of is disgraced music producer Dr. Luke. And, honestly, who hasn’t spoken ill of that creep? We cannot confirm that NBC is looking at Kelly Clarkson for this role. For one thing, she’s … not a news anchor. She can clearly do more than sing, though. And The Kelly Clarkson Show is already a thing that begins airing on NBC next year. After this debacle, we imagine that NBC wants to let Kelly Clarkson do her own show before the give her one of the biggest platforms on network television. We’re sure that she’ll be an amazing host, but NBC will probably want the ratings to prove it before they boost her to Today , right? At the end of the day, despite her long and controversial history, Megyn Kelly isn’t really being given the boot over being racist. Her defense of blackface was the straw that broke the camel’s back at most. More like, it was just an excuse. She was the highest paid anchor on television, but her ratings didn’t reflect that at all. Many have taken to social media to point out that NBC is probably just seizing this opportunity to give her the boot because she’s bad at her job. In case you are, for some reason, feeling sorry for her, don’t. She’s already made a lot of money, she’ll probably get more when she leaves, and she’ll almost certainly get yet another chance at some other network. 11 Times Megyn Kelly Was Really Very Racist

You won't believe this, but Megyn Kelly defended the use of blackface during a controversial Today Show segment. Wait… what's that you say? You totally believe it because Megyn Kelly has a history of saying inappropriate things that could best be described as offensive and worst be described as racist ?  That's right. She was a mainstay on Fox News for years, no matter how hard NBC worked to try and make us forget her employment history. Below, we run down the scandal that got Kelly kicked off NBC and compare it to other times in which she said some really awful things about African-Americans: 1. What is Racist? This is the question Kelly actually asked on air, challenging her round table panelists to explain the problem with white people dressing up in blackface for Halloween… apparently unaware of how this type of makeup was used by theater performers in the 19th century to stereotype and mock African-Americans who were being held down in society. 2. Ah, The Good Ole Days… “Back when I was a kid, that was OK just as long as you were dressing as a character,” Kelly said stupidly, adding: “Isn’t the whole purpose of Halloween to dress up and pretend you’re someone other than yourself? I feel like it’s so absurd. Who comes up with these rules?” 3. She Did At Least Apologize “I want to begin with two words: I’m sorry,” she said at the top of the next day’s show. “You may have heard that yesterday we had a conversation about political correctness and Halloween costumes. … I defended the idea (of blackface), saying that as long it was respectful and part of a Halloween costume, that it seemed OK. Well, I was wrong, and I am sorry.” 4. Continued the Embattled Anchor: “This past year has been so painful for many people of colo. The country feels so divided and I have no wish to add to that pain and offense. I believe this is a time for more understanding, more love, more sensitivity and honor, and I want to be part of that. Thank you for listening and for helping me listen too.” 5. Too Little, Too Late? Kelly will be terminated by NBC as a result of these remarks, multiple sources have said. And it doesn’t help that she has made similar comments in the past. To wit… 6. SANTA IS WHITE! During her Fox News days, Kelly got very, very VERY worked up over the idea of black men dressed up as Santa Claus, telling her audience: “For all you kids watching at home, Santa just is white…Just because it makes you feel uncomfortable doesn’t mean it has to change. Jesus was a white man, too.” View Slideshow

Bye, Bish: Megyn Kelly’s “Disastrous” TODAY Show Likely To Be Cancelled, Her NBC Career In Limbo

Image via Nathan Congleton/NBC/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images Megyn Kelly’s NBC Career Likely To Be Over After Blackface Comments Megyn Kelly should have never been hired in the first damn place, but it appears that her most recent racist rhetoric is going to be the nail in the coffin of her sordid career. According to a CNN report, Kelly will not be filming her show this week and is unlikely to return. NBC News executives have long thought her show was a “disaster” long before this week’s Blackface debacle. The DailyMail is reporting the Megyn’s staff staged a full-fledged revolt against her by reporting to the human resources department to document their “disgust” with her comments how they “don’t like her personally” either. NBC insiders also state that Kelly and Executive Producer Jenny Levin have “created a toxic environment” and should both be fired immediately. While Kelly is scheduled to take part in the network’s midterm election coverage, she might be too toxic to bring back that quickly. It is also reported that Megyn has split with her talent agency, CAA, and has hired a lawyer. Perhaps to negotiate a fair exit out of her contract with is worth $23 million in year two of a three-year contract. We damn sure won’t miss Megyn, even if all those shameless Black people applauding her for her weak-a$$ on-air apolo-cry yesterday do. Ding-dong the WASPy witch is dead.

Megyn Kelly Walks Back Idiotic Defense of Blackface

Megyn Kelly would like a mulligan. On Tuesday morning, the former Fox News host reminded NBC viewers where she used to work by sitting around with a few panelists and making a passionate defense for… … the use of blackface on Halloween? Yes. According to our records, this really was the random and racist hill on which Kelly decided to die for some reason. During the controversial segment on Tuesday, Kelly said it was perfectly alright when she was growing up for white people to dress up as black characters on October 31, speaking out against the Politically Correct Police these days who frown on such a thing. She used a really specific example to drive home her point, too. Back in April, an episode of The Real Housewives of New York featured cast member Luann de Lesseps going out for Halloween as Diana Ross . She received backlash for the outfit and then she apologized. Simple and understandable enough, right? Not to Megyn Kelly! “But what is racist?” Kelly asked, digging herself a deep grave by expounding as follows: “Because you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween. “Back when I was a kid that was OK, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character.” We’re pretty sure that last sentence is demonstrably false; there just wasn’t social media back in the day over which folks could voice their concerns about these types of costumes. After earning immediate flak from basically everyone with a pulse, Kelly issued an apology on Tuesday evening. Written as an internal note, a copy of which was provided by a spokesperson for NBC via Twitter, Kelly said the following: One of the wonderful things about my job is that I get the chance to express and hear a lot of opinions. T oday is one of those days where listening carefully to other points of view, including from friends and colleagues, is leading me to rethink my own views. Continued Kelly: When we had the roundtable discussion earlier today about the controversy of making your face look like a different race as part of a Halloween costume, I suggested that this seemed okay if done as part of this holiday where people have the chance to make themselves look like others. The iconic Diana Ross came up as an example. To me, I thought, why would it be controversial for someone dressing up as Diana Ross to make herself look like this amazing woman as a way of honoring and respecting her? I realize now that such behavior is indeed wrong, and I am sorry. The history of blackface in our culture is abhorrent; the wounds too deep. Yes, exactly. Kelly prides herself as a journalist and yet somehow didn’t realize previously that blackface — which was used in the late 19th century and early 20th century by white theater performers to mock and stereotype African-Americans – has an offensive history?!? Come on, Megs. As Melania Trump might say, try to be be better, okay? Try not to make it so clear that you want back on Fox News and are happy to show executives there while you still belong. Go ahead and search social media for the best responses to this scandal, but we’ll go with Top Chef Padma Lakshmi and her Tweet. This is what she wrote: “I cannot believe the ignorance on this in 2018. You are on national television. “You have a responsibility to educate yourself on social issues @megynkelly. This is so damaging.” Once aganin: Yes, exactly.
