SMH: 320-Pound Woman Sentenced To Life In Prison After Sitting On & Smothering A Young Girl To Death

Source: Rainer Fuhrmann / EyeEm / Getty 320 Pound Woman Gets Life In Prison After Sitting On & Smothering Young Girl To Death According to the NY Post , a Florida woman was sentenced to life in prison for killing her 9-year-old cousin after sitting on her as a form of punishment. Veronica Green Posey, 66, was convicted of first-degree felony murder after prosecutors say Dericka Lindsay had suffered horrific beatings from Posey, and Lindsay’s adoptive parents, James, and Grace Smith. Authorities say Posey sat on Dericka for over “five minutes” in October 2017, causing the girl to suffocate and die from lack of oxygen. Posey’s attorney said the 320-pound woman was only trying to help the Smiths and didn’t really intend to hurt Dericka. James Smith was previously sentenced to 10 years for his role in Dericka’s death. Grace Smith still faces charges but is currently mentally and physically unfit to stand trial, according to authorities. Assistant State Attorney Amy Shea said on the day of Dericka’s death, Posey was roused from her sleep by a phone call from Grace Smith saying that Dericka and her 8-year-old sister were acting up. “Once her feet hit the floor getting out of bed, she was determined to beat these children,” Shea said. Shea said that Posey then grabbed a ruler and thin pipe to “give it weight” and went to the Smiths’ home where she assisted in whipping the 9-year-old girl. She then took things up a notch; allegedly sitting on little Dericka while she was forced to kneel down with her chest on the seat of an armchair. The girl allegedly told Posey that she couldn’t breathe but was ignored. No Take Backs: Louisiana Is Attempting To Recoup Nearly $26 Million In Accidentally Overpaid Tax Returns

Source: Vichai Phububphapan / EyeEm / Getty Louisiana Accidentally Overpaid $26 Million In Tax Returns; Now They Want It Back According to ABC News , the state of Louisiana recently announced that a computer error earlier this week accidentally gave some people double the refund they expected. Louisiana officials have already begun the process of recouping the $26 million in duplicate refunds. Most of the accidental refunds will be recovered electronically, with banks withdrawing the direct deposits directly from the bank accounts. “There is no need for the taxpayers to take any action as the department works to recover the overpayment of funds directly from their bank accounts,” Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne said in a statement Friday. “With the cooperation of several financial institutions, the process is working.” According to the state, refunds that were processed correctly in early March were accidentally redeposited the following day. The mistake reportedly affected both direct deposit refunds and debit card refunds. SMFH.

Get ‘Em: Demi Lovato Goes IN On Instagram Over A Fat-Shaming Advertisement

Source: Sun Sentinel / Getty Demi Lovato Slams Instagram For Displaying A Harmful Ad Demi Lovato took to Instagram on Friday to fight back on an issue she’s long been passionate about stopping: body shaming. Instagram removed an advertisement for a mobile game from their app after the singer posted several IG stories denouncing the ad and asking for it to be taken down.  The sponsored post promoting a game called “Game of Sultans” featured two side-by-side characters, one dubbed “obese” and another called “pretty.” “Why is this fat shaming bull**it on my feed,” the 26-year-old wrote on her Instagram story. “So many things wrong with this ad.” She even tweeted about it to draw attention to the ad and how much of a problem she has with it, urging her fans to “always speak up for what you believe in.” Just called out Instagram and some bullshit game on my insta stories.. go check it out. Always speak up for what you believe in! — Demi Lovato (@ddlovato) January 4, 2019 The message from the ad is basically that only skinny women are pretty–which is clearly wrong and problematic–so Demi took it upon herself to take a stand. “This is absolutely harmful to anyone who is easily influenced by societal pressures put on us from the diet culture to constantly be losing weight in a world that teaches us to equate our value and worth with the way we look and especially anyone in recovery from an eating disorder,” she wrote. “Especially when eating disorders are all about ‘control.’” Lovato goes on to directly call out Instagram for allowing an ad that degrades the way people look on its platform. “Please Instagram, keep this bull**it off mine and other’s feeds who could easily be effected by this disgusting advertisement,” she wrote. “With how aware people are becoming of mental health and mental illnesses, I expect you guys to know better by allowing this advertisement to be allowed on your app. And shame on the game.” Following the post, Instagram ended up apologizing and told  TMZ   the ad violated its terms of service and would be removed. “We’re sorry. This ad was approved by mistake,” the company said. “We reviewed it again and removed it from future delivery in people’s feeds.” Continue reading

Kevin ‘Hood Gyno’ Gates Gives Inaccurate Information About Vaginal Discharge In Women

Source: Prince Williams / Getty Everybody is an expert these days when it comes to anything, just because they’ve read it on the Internet.  Kevin Gates must be an OBGYN and we just don’t know about it, because the Louisiana rapper gave a whole unwanted lesson on Bacterial Vaginosis and Vaginal Discharge in women via Twitter. Bacterial vaginosis, also known as vaginal bacteriosis, is the most common cause of vaginal infection for women of childbearing age. It frequently develops after sexual intercourse with a new partner, and it is rare for a woman to have it if she has never had sexual intercourse. — Kevin Gates (@iamkevingates) January 5, 2019 Bacterial vaginitis (BV) is the most common vaginal infection among women aged 15 to 44 years. Symptoms, if they appear, may include itching and a gray, watery discharge with a “fishy” smell. Untreated BV can lead to serious complications. Treatment is normally with antibiotics. — Kevin Gates (@iamkevingates) January 5, 2019   The information looks like something he copied straight off of Web MD, and folks were calling him out for his “facts” it being hella inaccurate. I dropped out of med school but I can still tell you this wrong as shit Kev. — Just Call Me DJ (@HovsMyUncle) January 5, 2019 But the real question is what was he going through that day to make him want to give lecture on BV. Kevin tweeted: My last two tweets were for the people who believe feminine discharge and a fishy smell is normal – I only tell you this because I love you — Kevin Gates (@iamkevingates) January 5, 2019 Wonder what Dreka has to say about this. #BlackExcellence: 83-Year-Old Earns Ph.D. From Louisiana State University

A n 83-year-old man is living proof that it’s never too late to bring your goals to fruition. After dropping out of school in the sixth grade, Vietnam War veteran Johnnie Jones received his doctorate degree on Friday from Louisiana State University, WFAB reported. On Friday, the 83-year-old will receive his doctorate in social work at LSU. He hopes to begin law school next fall. https://t.co/tkgSBnSflK — The Advocate (@theadvocatebr) December 11, 2018 The milestone was historic as he became the eldest student to receive a graduate degree during a fall commencement at the school and the oldest Black person to ever receive an LSU degree. When he was 18 years old, Jones joined the Marine Corps. While deployed in Vietnam he decided that he wanted to get back on track with his education. He noticed that individuals who had high school diplomas and college degrees were getting better employment opportunities. After earning his diploma, he took junior college classes and was then able to take advantage of a program offered by Louisiana State University while serving. After retiring from the military in 1973 he got his bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Hawaii and went on to pursue his master’s degree at LSU. While chasing after his academic goals he worked at a restaurant and later as a warden at the Louisiana Department of Corrections to support his family. Although he has several degrees under his belt, he doesn’t intend on stopping his academic journey anytime soon. He plans on starting law school next fall. “Age is an artificial constraint. There’s nothing magical about 65, 75, 95, 105. Your behavior, your activities should be guided by your physical fitness and your mental fitness,” he told The Advocate . “We’ve been so socialized to believe that once you hit a certain age, I’ve done my thing, so I’m going to sit back and enjoy life. OK, if that’s your thing, that’s your thing. But to me, age doesn’t mean that much. It’s whether or not I have the ability to be doing the things I need to be doing.” SEE ALSO: Jalen Rose’s Detroit High School Has A 93 Percent Graduation Rate 63-Year-Old Father And Son Share Graduation Day Together [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3840439″ overlay=”true”]

In My Feelings: Lil Wayne Snubbed By Eli Manning, Goes Off On Rant [Video]

Excerpt from:

Lil Wayne proves once again he doesn’t miss a thing when it comes to sports. Eli Manning inadvertently snubbed him and got put on notice by the famed rapper. Last week during a Q&A with ESPN Weezy sat alongside Giants starter Odell Beckham Jr.. While the interview was centered around his team’s chances at a playoff run the wide out confessed he was not happy with their offensive strategy. “I don’t feel like I’m given the opportunity to be the very best that I can be. I feel like I could score every quarter, if given the opportunity. I know those numbers could be double or triple that they are right now. I want to win. I want to be great. I feel like I can score every quarter, if I’m given the chance. That’s not the case” he explained. Naturally, the criticism got back to the organization and their impact players were questioned immediately. When asked about QB Eli Manning used TuneChi as scapegoat of sorts to avoid the baited inquiry. “I don’t watch Lil Wayne much, so I missed a lot of him” he responded. Well that didn’t too well with Wayne. In a series of Instagram posts, the Louisiana native addressed Manning and made it clear he was disappointed in the lack of respect Eli put on his name.  “Every time I’m doing an interview about you and somebody is about to … even when I’m in the crib and amongst the homies, every time someone says something bad about you, I be the first one to [defend you].” Weezy went on to express his frustration considering Manning is also from New Orleans. “And here you’re talking about you don’t watch Lil Wayne much. That’s fine. I’m cool with you. I don’t care what you watch, what you listen to, nothing like that. But come on, man, the hometown love — why you gotta do me like that, man? I didn’t say anything bad about you, man. So I’m not going to say anything bad about you now.” It seems the rant got back to the Giants as they played three Lil Wayne songs at their practice on Tuesday. Someone has a sense of humor. Back in 2011 he claimed that the Miami Heat were not showing him love even though he was a floor seat ticket holder. You can view his Eli Manning rant below. — Photo: WENN.com
