It’s still under debate whether or not a 1948 “stag film” owned by Spanish events promoter Mikel Barsa actually contains footage of a young Marilyn Monroe , but buyers at an auction this weekend weren’t willing to take the risk. Barsa claims that the woman in the scratchy 6-minute film reel, unearthed in 1980, is Marilyn, or Norma Jean Baker as she was called then, masturbating and having sex with an unidentified man. But Barsa also claims that a 1996 letter from Alan Brown of the American Film Institute “proves” it’s her in the movie, while the letter, available online, actually says: It’s not clear whether the woman in the film is Marilyn Monroe — if not, she’s definitely a lookalike. Lookalike or not, Marilyn’s estate flat-out denies that the woman in the film is her, and Authentic Brands Group , the company that licenses Marilyn’s image for all those awful “playing pool with Elvis and Jimmy Dean in paradise” posters, went so far as to say Barsa is “perpetrating a fraud on the public, violating the Monroe estate’s exclusive rights to her image and other claims of intellectual property infringement”. Thanks to these harsh words, the “stag film” received no offers at an Argentinan auction this weekend, falling far short of its $480,000 expectations. You know, Mr. Barsa, Mr. Skin’s got a crack team of skin experts that would be slappy to review the reel. If anybody can crack this nude case, it’s Mr. Skin, so how ’bout you send US the footage? Casey Anthony’s lawyer Jose Baez is reportedly at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York City, holding meetings with all of the major TV networks. NBC, ABC and CBS are all competing for the first interview with the accused child murderer, and you can bet HUGE dollar amounts are involved. Sources connected with the negotiations say there is a ” big price tag .” The networks don’t technically pay for interviews, however, they can offer to license photos and other material and pay whatever amount Baez asks. NBC, which is paying for Baez’s hotel room, looks like the frontrunner, but ABC is in the game, while CBS “is a distant third” to land the sit-down. Baez spent part of last night in the hotel bar with famed lawyer Mark Geragos, whose clients include or included Michael Jackson, Susan McDougal (Whitewater), Greg Anderson (BALCO), Winona Ryder, Scott Peterson and Chris Brown . Geragos, who is well-versed in high-profile cases and tricky negotiations such as this, reportedly gave Baez some advice in reaching a deal. Whether or not Casey Anthony is back in Florida already, it looks like she’ll only be in hiding – and flat broke – for so long.

A Tribe Called Quest doc director says he’d do another hip-hop film ‘if things lined up.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Kara Warner Michael Rapaport Photo: MTV News The controversy surrounding the documentary “Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest” has not killed director Michael Rapaport’s hip-hop jones. The film has received rave reviews, and if given the chance, Rapaport told MTV News that he has his eye on a few other rap acts that he’d like to turn his lens on. “I would love to document De La Soul,” he said looking directly in the camera making his best pitch. Another group which Rapaport has interest in is Philadelphia hip-hop band the Roots. While the group has had a rotating cast since their 1993 debut, Organix, band leader and drummer ?uestlove, along with MC Black Thought and keyboardist Kamal have been mainstays. Multi-platinum producer Scott Storch was a one-time member, as was rapper Malik B. The Roots have released 10 studio LPs since the early 1990s, and of course, the Grammy-winning group are enjoying success as the in-house band for “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.” “I would love to document the Roots; I think they have an interesting story,” Rapaport said. “I have a curiosity about them. Their musicality and their live performances I think would be great, and I have a feeling that there are stories behind each one of them.” After filming A Tribe Called Quest for his current work, Rapaport has went back and forth with group member Q-Tip. In light of the experience, when he visited “RapFix Live” in March, Q-Tip urged other rappers to tell their “own stories,” a concept that confused Rapaport . “I don’t know if he meant, ‘We’re from hip-hop, it should be a hip-hop director,’ ” the actor-director admitted to MTV News. “I don’t know who would go under the auspices of being a hip-hop director. Or if it was a racial thing like, ‘We’re black and shouldn’t have a white director.’ It was confusing to me.” As of now, Rapaport isn’t looking to do another rap film in the near future, but he wouldn’t turn it down if the opportunity presented itself. “Right now I’m taking a break from hip-hop documentaries,” he said. “But I would do it if things lined up.” Would you support a Michael Rapaport-directed Roots documentary? Star Chris Hemsworth will return, but director Kenneth Branagh will not. By Kara Warner Chris Hemsworth in “Thor” Photo: Paramount Pictures Given its mighty haul at the box office earlier this summer, Disney and Marvel Studios have officially green-lit a “Thor” sequel to be released July 26, 2013. Deadline originally reported that Chris Hemsworth will return to play the titular God of Thunder, but director Kenneth Branagh will not be back, which Disney confirmed to MTV News. When we spoke with Branagh prior to the film’s release in May, the esteemed thespian seemed to be interested in continuing the story of the haughty Asgardian but was cautious about stating outright that he would be 100 percent in to direct a second “Thor” film. “The prospect of [a sequel] is very tantalizing and fascinating,” Branagh diplomatically told MTV News. “I loved working with this group of actors and had a fantastic experience working with everyone in the Marvel family.” At the time, Branagh mentioned the fact that getting a sequel off the ground would require major box-office success and support from the fans — which, with a $437 million worldwide gross, the fans and money talked. Branagh also added that whether or not he was directing future installments, he was still a fan of the world of the Marvel Thunder God. “When I first got involved with this, I was so thrilled. The first big, really exciting moment when I started really going through the comic books was all the descriptions of powers,” he explained. “I loved it, amazing. People’s body weights, how tall they were, what they could do, all of that kind of stuff. There’s a vast amount of that from the Thor universe that I’d like to see.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Thor.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Mark Halperin must be watching too much Tracy Morgan stand-up . During a live appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe today, the political analyst was asked about President Obama’s behavior yesterday during a meeting with Republicans, inquired about whether or not the show was on a seven-second delay and then said: The President “acted like a dick.” Watch the host’s stunned reaction to the insult now: Mark Halperin on Morning Joe Halperin, who co-authored the book ” Game Change ,” has been suspended indefinitely by the network and said in a statement: “I want to offer a heartfelt and profound apology to the president, to my MSNBC colleagues, and to the viewers. My remark was unacceptable, and I deeply regret it.” Should he have been punished?
In the face of mounting evidence – including an investigation of his Twitter platform and the discovery of another inappropriate photo – New York Congressman Anthony Weiner held a press conference today and admitted: I lied. I did send lewd photos to multiple women online. The scandal first erupted at the end of May, as a picture of Weiner’s covered crotch was found online, purported to be Tweeted to a 21-year old follower. Weiner immediately hired a lawyer, but also gave interviews in which he blamed the incident on a “prank.” But that defense became more untenable in the following days, resulting in today’s admission. During the press conference, Weiner said: He never met any of the women in question. He’s exchanged sexually explicit photos with “at least six women.” He dodged a question about whether or not he had “phone sex” with them and simply said they were adults and all actions were “consensual.” He told his wife the truth this morning and she was “very disappointed.” She also said she loved him and wanted the couple to “pull through.” He never asked anyone to lie or orchestrated any kind of cover-up. His staff was unaware of his actions. He labeled his actions “a personal failure” and said “I did a regrettable thing and for that I apologize.” He will not resign. You can watch the press conference below: Anthony Weiner Press Conference – I Lied.. We’ll have more on this story as news breaks. For now, you tell us: Should Weiner resign?
We don’t even know where to start with this one. Hours after three brothers were seen playing with a gun outside their home, a 13-year-old Cobb County boy was dead Thursday night. A 16-year-old older brother is accused in death. But Friday afternoon, he was still on the loose. When he’s found, Oscar Mondragon is expected to be charged as an adult and face felony murder and aggravated assault charges, Sgt. Dana Pierce with Cobb County police told the AJC. Until then, investigators are asking for the public’s help in locating the teen, who should be considered armed and dangerous, Pierce said. Officers responding to a 9:24 p.m. 911 call about a shooting at the Eastside Mobile Home Park on Eastside Drive found the younger boy dead inside the trailer, Pierce said. Police did not release the name of the victim, but neighbors told the AJC the boy who died was Javier Mondragon, one of six children living in the home. Police have not yet determined what led to the shooting and whether or not it was accidental, Pierce said. Investigators plan to question Oscar Mondragon once he is located. “He does have a lot of companions and fellow friends in that area,” Pierce said. “It could be that someone is harboring him.” A person who knowingly assists the suspect could also face charges, Pierce said. Friends and neighbors at the mobile home park described Javier as a polite boy who was looking forward to being a seventh-grader at Griffin Middle School in the fall. “He was the best friend I’ve ever had,” Emoni Jones, 13, told the AJC as her mother, Errietta Jones, stood beside her. “I tell him everything and I trust him with everything. He didn’t deserve to die like that.” Our initial thought was that maybe this was just a tragic accident and the older brother was getting bad advice from friends encouraging him to hide out. But, neighbors pretty much described Oscar Mondragon as the kind of kid who people much expected to see behind bars at some point. How terrible this must be for the family though. Source
One of many burning Royal Wedding questions ever since Kate Middleton and Prince William got engaged has been who will design the bride’s dress. Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood have been rumored, but their modern aesthetics may not be appropriate for the regal, April 29 affair. Now, several news outlets are reporting that Kate Middleton has settled upon Sophie Cranston, a 34-year-old who previously worked for McQueen. Sophie worked with the late fashion icon before branching out with her own Lib
I know everyone’s rankings of Pixar’s best movies are all wrong except mine, but I hope we can agree that Monsters, Inc. clocks in near the top of the list. Keep your self-important WALL *E and your maudlin Finding Nemo ; I think the imagination of Monsters, Inc (and that insane door world) bests them both. Now that you’ve agreed, let’s observe the logo for the 2012 sequel Monsters University . It better be temporary.
