The center will provide resources for Black men who are educators within Maryland’s school system. There will be forums, trips, and mentoring programs for participants. For its inaugural year, the center seeks to recruit up to 50 locally-based students to join the program. The center’s leadership team aims to engage teachers who will focus on STEM education. The initiative is being led by associate professor  Julius Davis . “It feels great to know that the University System of Maryland thought that it was worth the investment to create a center for research and mentoring of Black male students and teachers at a historically Black university,” Dr. Davis said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “I’m excited to start working with the young men. I do research, but I really want to impact what’s going on in the community, where the work matters most. I hope that it will create a national reputation for Bowie State to be a center for excellence for looking at black male students and black male teachers.” News about the creation of the center comes at a time where teachers of color are underrepresented. According to Teach for America , only 2 percent of teachers in American public schools are Black men. Eugenie Bouchard’s Beach Fitness of the Day

I am a big fan of Eugenie Bouchard’s transition into a social media influencer…because she’s put in the work….thanks to her dad, who she’s here working out with, and his investment into her tennis career when he was present enough to see she had an ability to make it very far with her tennis….pretty much making it to all the top tennis events in the world…not necessarily winning them…but being an official tennis star, with sponsors getting fucking paid…a nice level of credibility that isn’t needed to make it as a social media influencer, but that helps when selling brand deals…cuz she’s more than just a girl in a bikini on instagram…she’s a legit athlete…an accomplished athlete….so it is all less shameless even if it can sometimes be shameless as people love the bikini selfies…from the person getting great feedback posting it…to the person looking at it…bikinis really make te internet a bettr place. What I am trying to say is Eugenie Bouchard…is great and she must be loving how much easier it is to generate buzz and brand deals using instagram….than actually trying to win tennis events… I am a fan. Rob Kardashian: I’m Broke and I Live With My Mom!

Rob Kardashian is going through some things right now, folks. Yesterday, the world learned that Rob can’t afford to pay child support to his baby mama, Blac Chyna. Normally, we’d call BS on that, but in Rob’s case, we actually believe he’s broke. Of course, it’s entirely his fault that he’s broke, and he’s been given every possible advantage in life, so he still doesn’t deserve a shred of sympathy. Anyway, Rob and Chyna are mired in an increasingly ugly court battle due to his refusal to fork over the $20,000 a month they initially agreed on. It’s a bad situation for everyone involved, but at least it’s yielding some interesting insights into Rob’s increasingly sad existence. According to his documents filed by his lawyers, Rob has “minimal cash flow and no savings.”  Of course, this is all relative, and as we learned yesterday, Rob is still pulling in $10,000 a month from royalties and endorsement deals. But that’s down from a reported $100,000 in the days before he started dating Chyna. (Rob says the relationship hurt his earning potential. We say he probably did that himself by posting revenge porn of Chyna and generally being an asshat.) You don’t have to be a mathematician to see that Rob can’t afford to shell out twice his monthly income in child support — but it’s worth noting that that appears to be his only expense. “As of January 17, 2018, I am short nearly $300,000, which my accountant projects I will need to pay for my 2017 tax liabilities,” Rob said in court documents released this week. “I no longer own a home. I now live in my mother’s home.” Woof. 300 grand in debt and living at home with his mom? Needless to say, Rob’s not exactly killing it these days — but don’t worry, he’s got a plan! And apparently, it involves having his mom buy half of his sock company. Yes, in case you somehow forgot, Rob designs socks that no one wants to buy, probably because they’re overpriced socks designed by Rob Kardashian. But the unpopularity of the Arthur George line isn’t keeping Rob from pushing forward with the venture in the hope that it will help him dig out of this financial hole. Rob told the court that he hoped the sock line would “would grow and that my earnings would increase,” but instead — shocker! — he lost money on the investment. Kris Jenner swooped in to keep the company alive, and she now “50 percent share in the company.” Cool. Now if Rob can just get Kris to pay 50 percent of his child support, he’ll be all set. Mayven is also planning on launching a new wig line next year. “Mayvenn has been well received by the investment community because it’s different,” Imira said in a statement, according to Black Enterprise. “Investors saw that we had traction and an ownable stake of a large, fragmented market that has been highly overlooked with millions of dollars in buying power who wanted a better way to find and purchase hair. Additionally, as founders, we’re not only passionate about our mission, but have very unique and complementary skill sets to go out and solve these problems.” Mayven isn’t the only Black-owned business in the beauty industry that is making waves and securing venture capital. Amanda Johnson and KJ Miller —the two women behind the makeup brand Mented Cosmetics —broke barriers for Black women in the realm of entrepreneurship after becoming the 15th and 16th African-American women in history to garner $1 million in venture capital funding for their startup. Rebel Wilson Finally Apologized For Her Petty Patty Ways…But Twitter Isn’t Done Dragging Her Yet

Source: Rich Fury/Getty Rebel Wilson Tweets Apology To Plus-Sized Actresses Rebel Wilson is out here trippin’. Kudos to the actress for landing a lead role in the upcoming rom-com Isn’t It Romantic , but the part where she claimed she was the “first-ever plus-sized girl to be the star of a romantic comedy”—we weren’t here for that . After Twitter corrected her and pointed out that there were many actresses who’d achieved as much before her, Wilson tweeted out an apology. “In a couple of well-intentioned moments, hoping to lift my fellow plus sized women up, I neglected to show the proper respect to those who climbed this mountain before me like Mo’Nique, Queen Latifah, Melissa McCarthy, Ricki Lake and likely many others.” Apparently, she now realizes she was hurtful…you know, AFTER blocking folks on Twitter who respectfully  came for that azz . “With the help of some very compassionate and well-thought out responses from others on social media, I now realize what I said was not only wrong but also incredibly hurtful. To be part of a problem I was hoping I was helping makes it that much more embarrassing & hard to- “acknowledge. I blocked people on Twitter because I was hurting from the criticism, but those are the people I actually need to hear from more, not less. Again, I am deeply sorry.” See her tweets here and hit the flip for some scalding hot responses from Twitter folks.

See more here:

M ogul Sean Diddy Combs has been a fierce advocate for adequate education in underserved communities. Nearly a year after opening a charter school in his hometown Harlem, he recently announced that he will donate $1 million for the creation of a school in the Bronx, Variety reported. Sean ' @Diddy ' Combs Pledges $1 Million to Fund New School in the Bronx https://t.co/6yOEdZLEIn — Variety (@Variety) October 24, 2018 The school—which will be a part of the Capital Preparatory Schools—is the charter school’s third location, the news outlet writes. There are currently two schools in Connecticut and New York which serves students in grades Kindergarten through 12. All of the students—many of whom are from low-income households and are the first to go to college in their families—have gone on to further their education at post-secondary schools. Capital Prep Bronx, which is slated to open its doors during the fall of next year, will start off by accepting nearly 200 6th and 7th grade students and aims to serve 650 students over the first five years. This educational initiative is being spearheaded by educator Dr. Steve Perry . “Mr. Combs wanted to open schools to develop leaders. What he’s done with his investment is embody what we expect students to do, which is to invest their resources in our communities,” Dr. Perry told the news outlet. He added that the students, faculty and parents are grateful for his donation and that Combs’ commitment to leveling the playing field when it comes to quality education is inspirational. Combs says using his platform and resources to push education forward is something that’s personal to him. “I came from the same environment these kids live in every day,” he said. “I understand the importance of access to a great education, and the critical role it plays in a child’s future. Our school provides historically disadvantaged students with the college and career skills needed to become responsible and engaged citizens for social justice.” Combs isn’t the only celebrity that is advocating for education in his hometown. Earlier this year, Will Smith was honored with a larger than life mural in Philadelphia and now he’s selling merchandise that features the mural imagery to raise money for a local school. Mystery Doorbell Ringer Comes Forward, Shares Chilling Survival Story

This woman's terrifying story gripped the nation before anyone knew her name or heard her reveal what had happened to her. America first saw her as a nameless woman who, while wearing restraints and a large tee shirt, rang a neighbor's doorbell late at night. Her name is Lauren, and her story is every bit as chilling as people feared. Lauren is 32 years old. She says that one night, she awoke to her 49-year-old boyfriend, Dennis Ray Collins, kneeling on her chest. He was stuffing some sort of fabric into her mouth. Her feet and ankles were bound by restraints, and she had duct tape on her head. She reveals that, at the time, she fully believed that she was going to die. She says that she tried to cling to hope during the sexual assault that followed. Lauren says: “I just kept repeating in my head ‘God has more for me than this, I’m not gonna die here tonight,'” She had been living with Collins for 4 months at the time of the rape. She says that afterwards, he allowed her to go to the kitchen to get some water — because her throat hurt from screaming. This, she reveals, is when she saw her chance to escape — and took it. We can never imagine how much bravery it took her to make that dash for the door and leave. As natural as the instinct to flee is, there is also a powerful instinct in many people to cooperate with a threat in the hopes of survival. Neither instinct is always right, but Lauren made the right choice. She says that she flagged down a car, asking the driver to help her — but that the driver took one look at her and sped away. It was then that Lauren was famously recorded ringing a doorbell. She rang several doorbells. Lauren explains that she was in fear for her life, but convinced that if someone saw her and made eye contact with her, that she woudl be safe. In the end, Lauren was able to go back for her car to drive away. It was 3 in the morning, and her chances of getting someone to answer the door were slim. Again, we cannot imagine how much courage it took for her to return to the one place where she knew that Collins might be. Lauren drove to safety while the homeowner's whose doorbell caught Lauren on video contacted law enforcement, fearing for this mystery woman's life. It was five days after the video surfaced that Collins committed suicide. In his suicide note, he apologized to Lauren — which, obviously, doesn't mean much, considering what he had done to her — and swears that he had not planned to kill her. “I never would have killed you like you thought,” Collins claimed. “I’m sorry for what I’ve done and I wish I could turn back time.” He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Lauren is grappling with powerful emotions in the aftermath of this trauma. She even feels a misplaced sense of guilt over Collins' death. But, speaking to Inside Edition, she admits that she believe that he would have taken her life. “I worry if this video didn’t come out,” Lauren admits. “And if he were not gone — then I eventually would be.”
