The Saga Continues: Terry Crews Accuses National Enquirer’s Publisher Of Blackmailing Him

Source: Vivien Killilea / Getty Terry Crews Slams National Enquirer’s Publisher The National Enquirer is in some really hot water right now. This all started when Jeff Bezos accused  The National Enquirer   of extortion, claiming that the tabloid leveraged the Amazon CEO’s nude pictures in hopes of stopping his investigation into the company’s motives. Quickly thereafter, acclaimed journalist Ronan Farrow alleged that he had faced similar extortion threats from the media company. Now, Terry Crews has also come forward to accuse American Media, Inc.   of trying to intimidate him to make him drop his lawsuit against WME agent Adam Venit. “This same company, AMI, tried to silence me in my lawsuit against WME and Adam Venit by fabricating stories of me with prostitutes—and even went so far as creating fake receipts,” Crews announced on Twitter. This same company, AMI, tried to silence me in my lawsuit against @wme and Adam Venit by fabricating stories of me with prostitutes— and even went so far as creating fake receipts. I called their bluff by releasing their threats online. They blinked. https://t.co/S6lMZ5K6Tb — terry crews (@terrycrews) February 8, 2019 Terry Crews sued WME and Adam Venit after alleging that the former agent groped him at a party back in 2016. Both parties ended up settling in 2018 and Venit resigned from the company shortly after that. The actor is now alleging that while this lawsuit situation was going on, AMI threatened to publish fabricated accounts of Crews’ affiliation with prostitutes. Jeff Bezos recently announced that he opened a personally-funded investigation to determine how the  National Enquirer  obtained the explicit text messages he exchanged with his mistress. The mogul first claimed that the story may have been “politically motivated,” coinciding with Donald Trump’s deep-seated hatred of the Amazon CEO. Bezos also alleged that AMI threatened to release his nude photos should he continue investigating how they obtained them.

Everybody’s Racist? Nick Cannon Exposes Jimmy Fallon, Sarah Silverman And Jimmy Kimmel For Wearing Black Face

Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty Nick Cannon Exposes White “Allies” Jimmy Fallon And Jimmy Kimmel Over Past Black Face While you’re over there throwing out all your Gucci, Prada and Moncler products, Nick Cannon has given the community some decisions to make about your late night viewing choices. Nick took to Instagram to post a collage of some of your favorite white comedians — wearing blackface! Happy “BLACKFACE” History Month!!! I’m sure we can expect some more “Apologies” by Monday… Nick also posted footage from the times Kimmel and Fallon wore black face. Nick acknowledged in his comments that he wasn’t necessarily looking to cancel the comedians but wanted the public to have conversations and really see a full and honest picture. Are these your Kings of Late Night??? @JimmyFallon @JimmyKimmel you know I’m always on the side of the comedian and never pander to the sensitive, but I feel there needs to be some “truth & reconciliation” discussions and teachable moments amongst our communities. I’m ready and willing for the discourse, so who wants to step up to the table first? In the meantime, I’ll just leave this right here. Tell the Jimmys to holla at me! What do you think needs to be said and done by the Jimmy’s? If you look at the comments you will see lots of celebrities weighed in — including Russell Simmons who said “Jesus I mean Jesus this sh** hurts.” Does it hurt you to see comedians we thought of as allies joking in this manner? Cannon wasn’t done with his educational lesson however. Hit the flip for more.

Cyntoia Brown Dealt A Cruel Blow By Tennessee’s Soulless Governor

Go here to see the original:

Y esterday, Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam granted executive clemency to 11 people and none of them was  Cyntoia Brown . In a news release, he said, “I am pleased to grant these acts of clemency. These individuals have made positive contributions to their communities and deserve pardons, or are individuals who will receive another chance to become contributing members of society by virtue of their commutations.” See Also: Mia Love Whines People Don’t Like Her Because She’s Black, Not Because She Supported A Racist Cyntoia Brown was 16 years old in 2004 when she shot and killed  Johnny Mitchell Allen , 43, in self-defense. She thought he was reaching for a gun after he solicited her for sex. Prosecutors argued she wanted to rob Allen, not defend herself. After being tried as an adult, Brown was convicted of first-degree murder in 2006. Due to outrage on social media, and attention from  Rihanna and  Kim Kardashian,  her story went viral. The case eventually made it to the Tennessee Supreme Court due to the work not from celebrities but prison reform advocates. On Dec. 8, CNN.com reported, “On Thursday the court said defendants like Cyntoia Brown, who are convicted of first-degree murder committed after July 1, 1995, and sentenced to life imprisonment, can’t become eligible for release from prison before serving more than five decades. The court’s five justices were unanimous in their decision against Brown.” The Tennessee Supreme Court explained their ruling in a statement that read in part “under state law, a life sentence is a determinate sentence of 60 years. However, the sixty-year sentence can be reduced by up to 15 percent, or 9 years, by earning various sentence credits.” Brown’s case is pending judgment in the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, but Haslam could have been the one to give her a second chance. Banking While Black: Cleveland Man Falsely Arrested Because Huntington Bank Believed Paycheck Was Fugazi

Source: Patrick Foto / Getty Black Man Falsely Arrested When Banks Believes Paycheck Is Fake Add this to the list of things that Black folks are not allowed to do in America. We can’t even work hard for our money and cash our check without being arrested. A story in Cleveland19 reports that Paul McCowns had been working at new job for three before he finally got his first paycheck. When he went to Huntington Bank to cash his earnings he was asked for two forms of ID, which he provided. He also was asked to give his fingerprint, which he did. Then McCowns was told that his check was fugazi after tellers were unable to reach the electric company to verify it. Here’s what happened next: “I get in my truck and the squad car pull in front of me and he says get out the car,” McCowns said. What he didn’t know is that as he was leaving the bank, employees called 9-1-1 on him. Cleveland 19 News obtained a copy of the 9-1-1 call and police report. “He’s trying to cash a check and the check is fraudulent. It does not match our records,” said the teller to a 9-1-1 operator. The operator asked the teller: “Does he know you called 9-1-1?” The teller responded: “No.” *insert Mykelti Williamson Waiting To Exhale “You ragged b!t¢h” meme here* McCowns was then arrested until the police could make contact with his employer. Upon confirmation and finding of fraud, McCowns was released and cashed his check the next day at another bank. He fully believes he was racially profiled. Huntington had this to say: “We sincerely apologize to Mr. McCowns for this extremely unfortunate event. We accept responsibility for contacting the police as well as our own interactions with Mr. McCowns. Anyone who walks into a Huntington branch should feel welcomed. Regrettably, that did not occur in this instance and we are very sorry. We hold ourselves accountable to the highest ethical standards in how we operate, hire and train colleagues, and interact with the communities we have the privilege of serving.” The bank also says that there have been 11 fraudulent checks to come through that branch recently and tellers were overeager. Yeah. Sure.

Diddy Donates $1M To Fund New Bronx Charter School

See more here:

M ogul Sean Diddy Combs has been a fierce advocate for adequate education in underserved communities. Nearly a year after opening a charter school in his hometown Harlem, he recently announced that he will donate $1 million for the creation of a school in the Bronx, Variety reported. Sean ' @Diddy ' Combs Pledges $1 Million to Fund New School in the Bronx https://t.co/6yOEdZLEIn — Variety (@Variety) October 24, 2018 The school—which will be a part of the Capital Preparatory Schools—is the charter school’s third location, the news outlet writes. There are currently two schools in Connecticut and New York which serves students in grades Kindergarten through 12. All of the students—many of whom are from low-income households and are the first to go to college in their families—have gone on to further their education at post-secondary schools. Capital Prep Bronx, which is slated to open its doors during the fall of next year, will start off by accepting nearly 200 6th and 7th grade students and aims to serve 650 students over the first five years. This educational initiative is being spearheaded by educator Dr. Steve Perry . “Mr. Combs wanted to open schools to develop leaders. What he’s done with his investment is embody what we expect students to do, which is to invest their resources in our communities,” Dr. Perry told the news outlet. He added that the students, faculty and parents are grateful for his donation and that Combs’ commitment to leveling the playing field when it comes to quality education is inspirational. Combs says using his platform and resources to push education forward is something that’s personal to him. “I came from the same environment these kids live in every day,” he said. “I understand the importance of access to a great education, and the critical role it plays in a child’s future. Our school provides historically disadvantaged students with the college and career skills needed to become responsible and engaged citizens for social justice.” Combs isn’t the only celebrity that is advocating for education in his hometown. Earlier this year, Will Smith was honored with a larger than life mural in Philadelphia and now he’s selling merchandise that features the mural imagery to raise money for a local school. B lack women are making moves in the realm of entrepreneurship. Many of their ventures are designed to give back to individuals from disenfranchised groups. Two Black women in Tulsa are aiming to level the property ownership playing field through the creation of their own real estate company, Forbes reported. Meet the women who lead the first African American-owned real estate crowdfunding platform https://t.co/RFdg1yNOgf pic.twitter.com/bfSrkDWr6p — Women@Forbes (@WomenatForbes) October 18, 2018 Johnetta G. Paye , Esq. and Ernestine Johnson are the women behind the first Black-owned real estate crowdfunding company, the news outlet writes. Dubbed the Tulsa Real Estate Fund (TREF), the platform was created to help individuals in underserved communities overcome the obstacles of gentrification by helping them make low-cost real estate investments. Those who take advantage of the fund can invest in property for less than $1,000. The two were motivated to start their venture after doing research about the racial wealth gap and the ravaging affects of gentrification. Hearing the stories about people who were pushed out of their neighborhoods because they couldn’t afford to stay there and realizing that there was a lack of resources offered to low-income individuals related to property ownership prompted them to take action. “I said to myself, ‘I have to use my art and my voice to financially empower low-income, underserved, and urban communities,” said Johnson, who serves as the co-founder and chief communications officer of TREF. Paye, who serves as the company’s vice president of business affairs, says that her personal experiences motivated her to make a change. “My parents struggled and sacrificed to become homeowners. Now I see the pride they have in their home,” Paye told Forbes. “Also, as an attorney, I have facilitated numerous real estate transactions for first-time homebuyers. I have seen the power of real estate to transform people’s lives.” There are several initiatives that have been launched to give individuals a seat at the table when it comes to the redevelopment of their communities. Last year, the Entrepreneurs of Color Fund —which was specifically designed to give Black entrepreneurs access to capital—grew to $18 million. NY Jets Chairman Says He’ll Personally Pay Fines For Players Who Decide To Protest The National Anthem

NY Jets Chairman Offers To Pay Protest Fines While the NFL is aiming to demand that all players stand for the national anthem with “discipline” for grown-azz men in the form of strict fines…one team boss isn’t standing for it. NY Jets Chairman and CEO Christopher Johnson says his team has his support, regardless of if they choose to protest the anthem. According to NYPost , Johnson has said that the team will stand behind players who may choose to kneel , and will not issue any team fines. As he said in a statement: “I plan to sit in the very near term with Coach (Todd) Bowles and our players to discuss today’s decision regarding the National Anthem,” Johnson said in a statement. As I have in the past, I will support our players wherever we land as a team. Our focus is not on imposing any Club rules, fines, or restrictions. Instead we will continue to work closely with our players to constructively advance social justice issues that are important to us. I remain extremely proud of how we demonstrated unity last season as well as our players’ commitment to strengthening our communities.” And as he told Newsday , if the league imposes the fine themselves, the team will eat it. “I do not like imposing any club-specific rules. If somebody (on the Jets) takes a knee, that fine will be borne by the organization, by me, not the players. I never want to put restrictions on the speech of our players. Do I prefer they stand? Of course. But I understand if they feel the need to protest. There are some big, complicated issues that we’re all struggling with, and our players are on the front lines. I don’t want to come down on them like a ton of bricks, and I won’t. There will be no club fines or suspensions or any sort of repercussions. If the team gets fined, that’s just something I’ll have to bear.” Nice. How many teams do you think will follow suit? Getty
