Source: Splash News Although the procedure can be extremely dangerous, butt injections have never been more popular than they are now. One woman, Whalesca Castillo , had been capitalizing on the trend by running an illegal plastic surgery operation in the Bronx. Sadly, her shady career allegedly ended up killing someone and Castillo now faces a manslaughter charge. The New York Times details her history of arrests in connection to illegal butt enhancements : “She had been arrested twice before, charged with providing illegal silicone injections in the Bronx to women who wanted to enhance their figures. One client had texted Whalesca Castillo after a procedure, complaining of leaking blood and liquid from her buttocks and legs, court documents said. Ms. Castillo replied by suggesting her favorite method for stanching a wound: ‘Buy some crazy glue and put it on.’ Ms. Castillo pleaded guilty in September 2011 to charges related to operating a fly-by-night plastic surgery clinic without a medical license, and served a year in federal prison. Released on probation, she was caught doing silicone enhancement procedures again in March 2014 and was sent back to prison for nine months.” This week, Ms. Castillo was arrested again in connection to the death of a woman by the name of Lesbia Ayala . Source: Splash News The site continues, “Ms. Ayala, 48, died on June 17 of an embolism after the police say Ms. Castillo pumped silicone into her buttocks and thighs. Ms. Ayala had traveled from her home in Philadelphia to Ms. Castillo’s apartment on Seward Avenue for the illegal procedure.” Castillo’s lawyer Robert Osuna stated he could not comment, as he had not yet read the criminal complaint. “We’ll have to see what the charges allege,” he said, according to The New York Times. As for how she ran her underground operation, Castillo reportedly received “hundreds of bottles of silicone gel shipped in the mail from the Dominican Republic, marked in Spanish as ‘silicone for hair’ or ‘for body massage,’” the site states. She was charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and the unauthorized practice of a profession. See photos of Castillo when she was arrested back in 2011 above. Source: Jan Cobb Photography Ltd / Getty Woman Dies Weeks Later After Boyfriend Stabs Her Stop the domestic violence! A Bronx woman passed away this week after complications from a wound caused by her boyfriend in previous days turned fatal. According to the NY Daily News , Dayanara Carela, 44, had her foot hacked with a sword by a deranged boyfriend. Police arrive her apartment in the Bronx atabout 9 p.m. on November 3 on a report that she had been assaulted. Her live-in boyfriend, Gilbert Nunez, had attacked with the sword in a jealous rage. Medics took from her to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition with severe gash to her left foot. She was treated there for an unknown period of time and released. Nunez, 43, was arrested Nov. 5 on felony assault charges for the alleged attack. Carela refused to cooperate with prosecutors and so he was released on his own recognizance on November 9th, and resumed her relationship with Nunez. On Nov. 18, Nunez called 911 to report that Carela was in medical distress. Medics took her to Montefiore Medical Center where she died the same day. Her death was later deemed a homicide related to the original wound. The city Medical Examiner concluded she died from blood clots that formed as a result of the attack — technically, “a bilateral pulmonary embolism due to deep vein thrombosis due to lower extremity complicating chop wound of left foot.” Nunez could face upgraded charges in the wake of Carela’s death. He is due back in court Dec. 17. SMH, so sad!!
Source: Theo Wargo / Getty Swizz Beatz has been consistent in the game since he first hit the scene back in the late 90’s. 20 years later and the infamous producer is still responsible for some of the hottest songs on the charts today. Lil Wayne’s “Uproar” reminded people why Swizzy is one of the greatest to ever do it, and on Friday, the Bronx legend dropped his second studio album Poison featuring some of his Hip Hop colleagues including Kendrick Lamar, Pusha-T, Nas, Jadakiss and 2 Chainz. Swizz spoke to The Fader about his 10-track project and how his presence is needed right now in the music game, saying: “I feel like real lyrics and music are needed. I’m not against other artists having fun and doing what they do, but as far as me having the experience and longevity that I have, what am I bringing to the table in 2018? That’s why I keep saying “quality” I don’t feel like there’s enough quality out there. There’s a lot of quantity.” And if you thought the Harvard Grad was just some old head, beat-maker who’s not in the know — you thought totally wrong. Swizz is so in tune with the current state of Hip Hop that he got J. Cole to Executive Produce his latest album. Big bro album out right now. POISON @THEREALSWIZZZ everybody snapped. pic.twitter.com/u9ZkCvAZZy — J. Cole (@JColeNC) November 2, 2018 Swizz told The Fader: “ He played the role of young mentor to me. I’m not too cool where I can’t have a young mentor, being as I’m a young OG. We were playing each other music, and then we started talking about things other than our projects, books, different things. One time, I was playing him songs from the album — before I had all these different sonic elements to the album, before separating them into four boxes. What I played you guys, where it stopped, he was like, “That’s the record. The other records you’re playing me, they’re huge, but I don’t think you need it.” And I’m like, “Are you crazy?” Two-decades in a Swizz Beatz is still a force to be reckoned with. But for some reason, folks don’t give credit to anything that happened before social media was a thing. But we’re here to remind you. Hit the flip to check out these songs you probably didn’t know Swizz Beatz produced.
Spencer Platt/Getty Images A Possible Death Is Stopped In Its Tracks A group of bodega workers are being hailed as heroes for preventing what could’ve been another Bronx teen tragedy on Tuesday. According to 4 New York , surveillance cameras show a teen boy running into the Bronx bodega for help, while several other teens chase him. The kid tries hiding in the back of the aisles, according to the video, but the mob ends up finding him. Witnesses say that four of them attacked the boy, kicking him in the head, while more teenagers looked on. It was at this very moment that the bodega owner Edward Lara and others swooped in to save the teen’s life. “The little kid came here asking for help,” Lara said. “He said ‘please help me they’re going to kill me.’” Lara said that he was worried about his safety, but he couldn’t help but think of a similar incident that happened in the Bronx not too long ago. Back in June, 15-year-old Lesandro “Junior” Guzman Feliz was brutally murdered at another Bronx bodega just three miles from Lara’s bodega. In Junior’s case, nobody came to his aide when he was being attacked, at least not in a way that might’ve saved his life. The whole incident caused major outrage on social media sparking the #JusticeForJunior hashtag. According to 4 New York, in Tuesday’s attack, one of the assailants fired a gun on the street right before chasing the teen victim into the bodega. The attacker’s shot struck an innocent bystander — a 50-year-old man who is expected to survive. The teen is also expected to survive after being saved by the bodega team. “They’re heroes,” Lara said of his workers. Police said a 15-year-old has been arrested in connection with the attack on Tuesday. They add that they are still looking for the others who were involved.
M ogul Sean Diddy Combs has been a fierce advocate for adequate education in underserved communities. Nearly a year after opening a charter school in his hometown Harlem, he recently announced that he will donate $1 million for the creation of a school in the Bronx, Variety reported. Sean ' @Diddy ' Combs Pledges $1 Million to Fund New School in the Bronx https://t.co/6yOEdZLEIn — Variety (@Variety) October 24, 2018 The school—which will be a part of the Capital Preparatory Schools—is the charter school’s third location, the news outlet writes. There are currently two schools in Connecticut and New York which serves students in grades Kindergarten through 12. All of the students—many of whom are from low-income households and are the first to go to college in their families—have gone on to further their education at post-secondary schools. Capital Prep Bronx, which is slated to open its doors during the fall of next year, will start off by accepting nearly 200 6th and 7th grade students and aims to serve 650 students over the first five years. This educational initiative is being spearheaded by educator Dr. Steve Perry . “Mr. Combs wanted to open schools to develop leaders. What he’s done with his investment is embody what we expect students to do, which is to invest their resources in our communities,” Dr. Perry told the news outlet. He added that the students, faculty and parents are grateful for his donation and that Combs’ commitment to leveling the playing field when it comes to quality education is inspirational. Combs says using his platform and resources to push education forward is something that’s personal to him. “I came from the same environment these kids live in every day,” he said. “I understand the importance of access to a great education, and the critical role it plays in a child’s future. Our school provides historically disadvantaged students with the college and career skills needed to become responsible and engaged citizens for social justice.” Combs isn’t the only celebrity that is advocating for education in his hometown. Earlier this year, Will Smith was honored with a larger than life mural in Philadelphia and now he’s selling merchandise that features the mural imagery to raise money for a local school.
