Who Did It Worse? Princess Nokia Bewilderingly Blasts Ariana Grande For Gentrifying Her Song

Source: Mike Coppola / Darren Gerrish / Getty Princess Nokia Blasts Ariana Grande For Imitating Her Song, But Is She Reaching? Rapper Princess Nokia  is blasting Ariana Grande for plagiarizing the flow from her song “Mine”, but is it really her’s in the first place? In a video posted to Twitter, Nokia listens to both versions of the tunes and makes sarcastic gestures. Towards the end of the clip, Nokia utters “sounds about white”, implying Ari appropriated her tune. The issue is, some people think BOTH their songs steal flows from Soulja Boy’s “Pretty Boy Swag” and other pioneering trap rappers. Hit play. The Brand Is Back, Baby: Showtime Just Blessed Us With A Poppington Promo For Desus & Mero’s New Show

Source: Astrid Stawiarz / Getty Desus And Mero Look For Set Decorations In This Brand New Promo It’s been 84 years since Desus & Mero left VICELAND . Okay, it’s been like 7 months. But in a world filled with a surplus of terrible Trumpito news and Soulja Boy doing what Soulja Boy does, 7 months is way too long to go without the Bodega Boys and their commentary (yeah, we still have the podcast, but we’re greedy). Luckily for us, February 21 is quickly approaching and we’ll soon have some weekly visual art from the boys to look forward to every Thursday. In preparation for Desus and Mero’s arrival to their brand new network, Showtime just dropped a sneak-peak promo trailer of the guys decorating their set. New network. New set. New chairs. #DESUSandMERO on @Showtime begins Thursday, February 21st at 11/10c. pic.twitter.com/9CXyz93QDu — Desus & Mero on SHOWTIME (@SHODesusAndMero) January 18, 2019 While excitement was already at an all time high, this trailer makes the anticipation–and the brand–stronger than ever. February 21st is still a little over a month away, so let’s hope someone over at Showtime can keep slipping us some sweet previews to hold us over. T-minus 37 days. Continue reading

A Lil’ Positivity: Bodega Workers Save Bronx Teen From Brutal Attackers

Spencer Platt/Getty Images A Possible Death Is Stopped In Its Tracks A group of bodega workers are being hailed as heroes for preventing what could’ve been another Bronx teen tragedy on Tuesday. According to 4 New York , surveillance cameras show a teen boy running into the Bronx bodega for help, while several other teens chase him. The kid tries hiding in the back of the aisles, according to the video, but the mob ends up finding him. Witnesses say that four of them attacked the boy, kicking him in the head, while more teenagers looked on. It was at this very moment that the bodega owner Edward Lara and others swooped in to save the teen’s life. “The little kid came here asking for help,” Lara said. “He said ‘please help me they’re going to kill me.’” Lara said that he was worried about his safety, but he couldn’t help but think of a similar incident that happened in the Bronx not too long ago. Back in June, 15-year-old Lesandro “Junior” Guzman Feliz was brutally murdered at another Bronx bodega just three miles from Lara’s bodega. In Junior’s case, nobody came to his aide when he was being attacked, at least not in a way that might’ve saved his life. The whole incident caused major outrage on social media sparking the #JusticeForJunior hashtag. According to 4 New York, in Tuesday’s attack, one of the assailants fired a gun on the street right before chasing the teen victim into the bodega. The attacker’s shot struck an innocent bystander — a 50-year-old man who is expected to survive. The teen is also expected to survive after being saved by the bodega team. “They’re heroes,” Lara said of his workers. Police said a 15-year-old  has been arrested in connection with the attack on Tuesday. They add that they are still looking for the others who were involved.

Desus & Mero Says Viceland Low-Balled Them, Says Company Booted Them Early

Source: Patricia Schlein/WENN.com / WENN By now, the journey of Desus & Mero going from Twitter’s most-retweeted funnymen to media darlings is known to most. After the ending of their popular show on Viceland, it has since come out that the network pulled the plug two months early on the pair, who both suggest that they were largely undervalued. In an exclusive sit-down with Bossip after appearing together at the Atlanta Symphony Hall, the Bodega Boys told their side of the story involving the end of their time up at Viceland. From Bossip : “Can I just be messy off the rip right now?” Desus began. “Vice has us for 2 more months….we did not leave Vice, Vice ended our contract. They were in their feelings because we were leaving.” He continued, explaining, “We could still be doing the show, and it bothers me because now people are tagging us like ‘do this, do this, what would your reactions be for this?’ and I’m like, ‘yo wow, what would my reaction be?’” Mero summed up the situation succinctly: “Don’t cut off your nose to spite your face.” The pair added in the chat that Viceland wanted them to shoot 160 episodes per year and to not take a vacation as it tanked their ratings. Desus and Mero’s show, by their account, was the network’s highest-rated show and the online chatter surrounding them certainly signified that. For their part, Desus and Mero don’t seem bitter about the split and instead are poised to keep giving Bodega Hive the content they’ve come to know and love. — Photo: WENN

David Banner Drops “Kemet” Freestyle

David Banner approaches the mic with calculated skill & determination to deliver a message. In this “Kemet” Freestyle David Banner refrences Ancient Kemet which of course I had to do my googles to find out that this is a historic name Egyptian called Egypt before Europeans came in. Kemet meaning ‘the black land’ gives me reason to believe that David Banner will never put out anything with out giving a slite history lesson. I’m glad he did because now we all know what Kemet means to the black community. Stream the full song below.   Also check out previous interviews with David Banner & DJ Kash.

Litty: Desus & Mero Are Joining ESPN’s NBA Coverage

More here:

Source: Team Epiphany/VICE / Vice.com The Bodega Boys’ media takeover contrinues. VICELAND late show hosts Desus & Mero will be adding their comedic genius to ESPN’s NBA coverage this season, according to a statement from ESPN: “ESPN is collaborating with comedy duo Desus Nice & The Kid Mero, ‘Desus & Mero’ from Viceland, to create short videos featuring their commentary about the biggest NBA storylines on and off the court — from blockbuster trades to evolving hairlines, notable hirings to questionable fashion choices, as well as their bold predictions for the upcoming year. The shorts will be incorporated across ESPN’s NBA coverage on digital, social and TV platforms.” The Bronx social media stars have risen from Twitter fame to a show with Complex to their current gig with VICELAND. Hard to understand how ESPN can appreciate the Bodega Boys’ humor while Jemele Hill is still on suspension, though.
