Rob Kardashian: I’m Broke and I Live With My Mom!

Rob Kardashian is going through some things right now, folks. Yesterday, the world learned that Rob can’t afford to pay child support to his baby mama, Blac Chyna. Normally, we’d call BS on that, but in Rob’s case, we actually believe he’s broke. Of course, it’s entirely his fault that he’s broke, and he’s been given every possible advantage in life, so he still doesn’t deserve a shred of sympathy. Anyway, Rob and Chyna are mired in an increasingly ugly court battle due to his refusal to fork over the $20,000 a month they initially agreed on. It’s a bad situation for everyone involved, but at least it’s yielding some interesting insights into Rob’s increasingly sad existence. According to his documents filed by his lawyers, Rob has “minimal cash flow and no savings.”  Of course, this is all relative, and as we learned yesterday, Rob is still pulling in $10,000 a month from royalties and endorsement deals. But that’s down from a reported $100,000 in the days before he started dating Chyna. (Rob says the relationship hurt his earning potential. We say he probably did that himself by posting revenge porn of Chyna and generally being an asshat.) You don’t have to be a mathematician to see that Rob can’t afford to shell out twice his monthly income in child support — but it’s worth noting that that appears to be his only expense. “As of January 17, 2018, I am short nearly $300,000, which my accountant projects I will need to pay for my 2017 tax liabilities,” Rob said in court documents released this week. “I no longer own a home. I now live in my mother’s home.” Woof. 300 grand in debt and living at home with his mom? Needless to say, Rob’s not exactly killing it these days — but don’t worry, he’s got a plan! And apparently, it involves having his mom buy half of his sock company. Yes, in case you somehow forgot, Rob designs socks that no one wants to buy, probably because they’re overpriced socks designed by Rob Kardashian. But the unpopularity of the Arthur George line isn’t keeping Rob from pushing forward with the venture in the hope that it will help him dig out of this financial hole. Rob told the court that he hoped the sock line would “would grow and that my earnings would increase,” but instead — shocker! — he lost money on the investment. Kris Jenner swooped in to keep the company alive, and she now “50 percent share in the company.” Cool. Now if Rob can just get Kris to pay 50 percent of his child support, he’ll be all set. Happy Tax day! Actually, tax day is tomorrow, because the 15th fell on a Sunday and today is DC Emancipation Day so we get an extra day before we have to pay. (Fun fact: Did you know the Republicans were responsible for Emancipation Day, not the Democrats’) Anyway, Mr. LC and I are still waiting to hear from our accountant to find out how much we owe Uncle Sam, so I’m kind of in a foul mood. Ja Rule Sentenced To 28 Months For Tax Troubles

Incarcerated rapper gets added time for failing to file with the IRS. By Rob Markman Ja Rule Photo: Mark Mainz/Getty Images As if getting hit with a two-year jail bid wasn’t enough, rapper Ja Rule just got some more time tacked onto his current sentence. On Monday (July 18), Rule (born Jeffrey Atkins) was sentenced to 28 months in prison to run concurrent with his existing sentence for failing to file tax returns with the IRS for more than $1.1 million in taxes. Rule’s attorney, Stacey Richman, told MTV News she is grateful the court didn’t judge the rapper on his public persona. “We were all very concerned about what the potentials were, and we think that the outcome was very fair and that the court took him into account as an individual, and we appreciate that tremendously,” she said. In December 2010, Rule pleaded guilty to attempted gun possession stemming from a 2007 arrest. The 35-year old MC turned himself in June 8 to begin the bid, and got hit with the additional time Monday in a New Jersey federal court. The sentence was the result of Ja’s March admission of his failure to file for money earned from 2004 to 2006. The former Murder Inc. rapper commented on his tax troubles when he appeared on MTV’s “RapFix Live” in April. “Let me just clear this up for people who think that Ja Rule doesn’t pay taxes: bullsh–,” the rapper told MTV News’ Sway Calloway. “Ja Rule pays plenty of taxes, millions of dollars in taxes. I owed them a little bit more. I had some issues when the whole Murder Inc. thing went down with my accountant, and she had some federal issues with the boys herself for doing some things, so I fell into a few issues there, but it’s not an issue like that. That’s being taken care of.” When handing down the sentence, U.S. Judge Patty Shwartz said, “Taxpayers do not have the luxury of deciding whether to comply with the laws.” What the added time means for Rule is that, in theory, he will serve a full 28 months regardless whether his current New York state sentence ends early. If the rapper ends up serving the entire 24 months of his current incarceration, he will owe the government the extra four months. However, “good behavior” creates the possibility of a shorter federal sentence. Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With Ja Rule Related Artists Ja Rule

REVIEW: Winnie the Pooh Charms with Warmth, Whimsy For All Ages

Sweet as anything and just as slender, the new Winnie the Pooh movie features no adjustments, adjuncts, or fancy add-ons in its title. It’s not called Winnie , Pooh , Winnie the Two , or The New Winnie the Pooh Movie . It’s Winnie the Pooh to you, and in the desperate age of “re” — rejigger, reconstitute, reboot, remember to send your accountant a meat-of-the-month club membership — that means a lot.

Drive Angry’s William Fichtner Plays My Favorite Scene, Recalls Rocky Soap Opera Beginnings

The great tragedy in Drive Angry 3D ‘s lackluster opening last weekend isn’t that the B-movie homage didn’t make more money, but that more people didn’t get to see William Fichtner steal the show as The Accountant, the no-nonsense supernatural CPA from hell doggedly tracking Nic Cage’s every move on earth. Fichtner, one of Hollywood’s most beloved character actors, gives a master class in added-value acting in the film, which he discussed with Movieline last week before musing further on muscle cars, The Godfather Part II , and his soap opera beginnings.

‘Drive Angry’ Stars Discuss Film’s Most Outrageous Moments

‘I’m still kind of amazed that they let me drink beer out of somebody’s skull,’ Nicolas Cage marvels to MTV News. By Kara Warner Amber Heard Photo: MTV News If the trailers haven’t already sold the fact that “Drive Angry” is outrageous , in every sense of the word, allow the cast of the film — Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard, Billy Burke and William Fichtner — to expand on the subject, particularly the scenes they thought would be left on the cutting-room floor. “I’m still kind of amazed that they let me drink beer out of somebody’s skull,” Cage admitted to MTV News recently of his character’s most over-the-top antics. “That that’s still in the movie, and it’s a credit to [director] Patrick Lussier that he had the guts to go in the most far-out places.” “Only in our movie, in the world of ‘Drive Angry,’ ” Heard said. “I wanted it to look good, like, ‘My cup runneth over,’ ” Cage explained of the big moment. “I wanted the beer to come sploshing out of the eye sockets.” Burke, who plays a very disturbed and psychotic cult leader hell-bent on infant sacrifice in the film, said he figured that one of the film’s climactic scenes would receive a less intensely violent edit. “I thought that we would probably change sacrificing a baby to maybe a lamb or something like that,” Burke said. “I didn’t think that we’d actually go forward with wanting to kill a baby, but we did, and that’s the kind of movie this is. So if you can’t take that, for the fun and spirit in which it’s intended, then you shouldn’t go see this movie,” he advised. For scene-stealer Fichtner, who plays the mysterious character the Accountant, he was most surprised that a very racy/violent love scene made the cut. “There was one scene in the movie, we all know which one I’m talking about [a ‘creative’ sex scene in which Cage engages in a gunfight with a naked woman still on top of him] where I thought, ‘Wow, that’s interesting,’ ” he said. “That’s a challenge.” In addition to the outrageousness of wrapping your head around what happens in that scene, Fichtner said he has great respect for the actors and stunt coordinators who made it happen. “Patrick [Lussier] did an amazing job and so did Charlotte [Ross] and Nic,” he said. “It’s much more than just a sex scene.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Drive Angry.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

‘Drive Angry’: The Reviews Are In!

Should you hit the road with Nicolas Cage? See what the critics have to say. By Eric Ditzian David Morse and Nicolas Cage in “Drive Angry” Photo: Summit Publicity “Drive Angry” marks three-straight supernatural films for Nicolas Cage, though each could not be more different. “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” was a Disney-driven tale of magical realism. “Season of the Witch” dove into the intersection of medieval black magic and campy B-movie wackiness. And “Drive Angry” literally begins with Cage driving a muscle car straight outta hell with the devil’s henchman fast on his heels and doesn’t slow down as it splashes blood and fire across the screen. All three flicks share something else in common: below-average reviews. “Sorcerer’s” and “Season” each went on to conjure up lukewarm box-office receipts. Can “Drive Angry” break the spell? Check out what the critics are saying and decide if the new 3-D film is the right choice for you this weekend. The Story “[It] may be a bit too slickly self-aware for its own good, but it’s also rivetingly paced, outrageously funny and makes retina-scorching use of the new 3D technology. Nicolas Cage is on teeth-baring, eye-rolling form as John Milton (nice), the deceased felon who busts out of hell to track down the Southern death cult who kidnapped his baby granddaughter. Hooking up with mouthy muscle-car-driving white-trash waitress Piper (Amber Heard), Milton sets off in pursuit, all the while attempting to avoid the attentions of Satan’s right-hand man, The Accountant (a majestically arch William Fichtner).” — Tom Huddleston, Time Out Crazy Nic Cage “A little respect, if you please, for His Satanic Majesty Nicolas Cage. Nobody goes off the deep end like Nic. Nobody gives better value in bad movies than the sleepy-eyed Oscar winner with a gift for picking bad movies. ‘Drive Angry’ is a very entertaining B, C or D-movie, an over-the-top and in-your-face grindhouse gore, guns and ‘Gun it’ picture that’s about epic shootouts, bone-snapping brawls, bare breasts and muscle cars. The gunplay is funny and the sex hilarious in this ‘Ghost Rider is Gone in 60 Seconds’ mashup.” — Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinel The 3-D ” ‘Drive Angry’ is intensely bloody, violent and carries quite a few payoffs that are well delivered. It’s also a movie you’d actually want to see in 3-D, unlike so many frauds in the marketplace these days. In fact, Lussier, who directed ‘My Bloody Valentine 3D,’ shows his growth as a 3-dimensional director by taking ‘Drive Angry’ to new heights. Seeing it in Real D, the depth was astounding, and Lussier throws a few CGI tricks right in the viewer’s face. Even more impressive was his flashback sequence that could easily become one of the most influential in the 3-D age (the way he layers three ‘thoughts’ at once is mind-blowing visually). In short, it’s worth the extra few bucks.” — Brad Miska, Bloody Disgusting Going Grindhouse ” ‘Drive Angry’ is loud and busy, and it’s rarely boring. But it’s also never really good. ‘Drive Angry’ comes at the tail end of the grindhouse revival trend, and while it’s better made than films like ‘Machete’ or the scores of indie films that followed in Quentin Tarantino’s wake, it succumbs to the same problem so many of those movies do: it’s a movie about the things that the filmmakers think are cool, and that’s never cool. ‘Drive Angry’ isn’t about anything, it’s just a series of ideas that struck Lussier and Farmer as awesome, strung together at feature length. There’s a lot of balls in Drive Angry, and even some brains, but no heart.” — Devin Faraci, Badass Digest The Final Word ” ‘Drive Angry’ is, in the end, a genre romp. It’s not aiming any higher than that. But it is made with real skill and style, and there’s such knowledge of genre in the way they have built the script and both embraced and avoided certain conventions that it makes me feel like we’re just seeing Farmer and Lussier warm up. Hopefully they’ll keep working with collaborators as game as their partners in this particular crime, because ‘Drive Angry’ is a white-knuckle ride worth taking.” — Drew McWeeny, HitFix Check out everything we’ve got on “Drive Angry.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

CNN Continues One-Sided Reporting on ‘Islamophobia’ in America

On Thursday’s American Morning, CNN’s Deborah Feyerick continued her network’s promotion of the charge the “Islamophobia” is growing in the U.S. All but one of Feyerick’s sound bites during her one-sided report were from those who agree with this charge, with the sole exception being used an example of someone using ” Islam …[as] a political wedge issue .” Anchor Kiran Chetry and substitute anchor Ali Velshi introduced the correspondent’s report just before the bottom of the 7 am Eastern hour. Chetry stated that “attempted terror attacks aimed at the U.S. have come mostly from Muslim extremists born outside of America” and then claimed that “America’s Muslim community though has been quick to warn law enforcement about these potential threats.” Velshi added that “the question is, why does it appear that more and more that all Muslims are being portrayed as potential terrorists or as targets of hate .” Feyerick began by citing unnamed ” experts will tell you that there’s a great deal of misunderstanding when it comes to what Islam is all about. Add on politicians spreading rumors that Sharia law – Islamic law- is coming to the United States simply because a group of Americans wants to build a mosque . It’s time to ask, what’s really going on?” She then noted that the “Islamic center and mosque to be built near Ground Zero is not the only mosque drawing fire. About a dozen others across the country are also under attack, from angry protests and suspected arson in Murfreesboro, Tennessee to Temecula, California . American mosques, in some cases, [are] being portrayed as monuments to terror or terror training centers.” The CNN correspondent continued with a series of sound bites from those who allege a growing and threatening “Islamophobia,” and singled out conservatives for apparently persecuting Muslims: FEYERICK: Conservatively, figures show an estimated five million Muslims in America, and intensifying hostility and rise in hate speech is alarming to many, like these clerics who we met at a recent Islamic summit in Houston . YASIR QADHI, ALMAGHRIB INSTITUTE: You would never hear any mainstream commentator say, do you think another Christian sect could open up a mosque? Do you think Jews should be allowed to open their synagogues anywhere they want? We have mainstream news presenters just asking the question bluntly, do you think Muslims should open- should be allowed to open mosques anywhere they want? WISAM SHARIEFF, BAYYINAH INSTITUTE: What changed the game? Nineteen people changed the game? How did that happen? Because we’ve been your doctor, we’ve been your x-ray tech, your accountant. We’ve been serving you slushies for a long time. (unidentified man off-camera laughs) So, what tipped the scales? FEYERICK: Wisam Sharieff, Yasir Qadhi, and other prominent American clerics say American Muslims are under siege, both by Islamic extremists and some U.S. conservatives . QADHI: You have radical Islamic clerics, right, preaching from abroad, saying you cannot be an American and a Muslim at the same time. Well, low and behold, on the far right, you have quite a number of famous, prominent Islamophobes who are saying the exact same message. FEYERICK: The Ground Zero mosque, as some call it, has whipped up national debate, fueled, in part, by misinformation and fear-mongering. Yet, anti-Muslim feelings had been simmering. Feyerick’s example of a “famous prominent Islamophobe,” to use Mr. Qadhi’s term, was none other than former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Before playing her sound bite of Gingrich, she used her “wedge issue” label, and afterwards, went on to cite other unnamed “experts” and highlight an apparent “hate crime” against a Muslim: FEYERICK: Islam has become a political wedge issue with politicians like Newt Gingrich comparing Muslims to Nazis . NEWT GINGRICH: You know, Nazis don’t have the right to put up a sign next to the Holocaust Museum in Washington. There’s no reason for us to accept a mosque next to the World Trade Center. FEYERICK: In fact, a Duke University study finds, rather than fuel terrorism in America, contemporary mosques prevent it. National security experts and American Muslims, like Saraj Mohammed, fear there’s a lot at stake . SARAJ MOHAMMED: The more they speak and the more they incite people, they themselves are a concern to be dealt with and they have to be told, you have to stop this rhetoric. It’s hurting American security. FEYERICK (on-camera): Right. Because it’s creating hatred? MOHAMMED: Yes, it’s creating a lot of hatred. FEYERICK: The latest 2008 FBI statistics on hate crimes against Muslims don’t reflect what’s going on now. But experts believe the spike that happened after 9/11 could repeat itself . FEYRICK (voice-over): In New York recently, a cab driver was stabbed after his attacker allegedly asked if he was Muslim. QADHI: Slowly but surely, we will counter this Islamophobia. Everybody had it. The Irish had it. The Catholics had it. The Italians had it. Now, it’s just time for the Muslims. FEYERICK: (“Allah ackbar” being chanted in an unidentified location) How long it will take to counter is anyone’s guess. At the end of the segment, the CNN correspondent, along with Chetry and Velshi, forwarded the claim that the Islamic cleric behind the Ground Zero mosque, Imam Faisal Rauf, was a “moderate” and bewailed what might happen if other “mainstream” Muslims were rejected by Americans: FEYERICK (live): Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf, the one who is at the head of the so-called Ground Zero mosque , will return to New York City sometime today. He’s been serving as an emissary for the U.S. State Department, reaching out to leaders in the Middle East, acting as a bridge between the U.S. and Muslim countries . He says, just as American Catholics were crucial in pushing reform in Vatican II, so will American Muslims be indispensable in bridging the chasm between America and the world’s 1.2 billion Muslims. So, there’s a real danger that alienating or marginalizing Western moderate mainstream thinkers is going to be a problem, simply because of religion . VELSHI: It’s a big issue. I know Imam Faisal, as you do- you’d be hard pressed to ever be able to describe him as radical, or a radical thinker. He believes he’s building a bridge between different faiths, but when this label is applied, it gets applied and it sticks . FEYERICK: Well, absolutely- and you have people simply asking questions with no fundamental proof as to what they’re saying. It’s one thing to say, let’s find out where the money is coming from. Well, I can say that. But it doesn’t mean – VELSHI: Right- FEYERICK: That it’s coming from somewhere insidious. But that’s what the allegation- that’s what the insinuation is . So there’s a real, sort of- VELSHI: That’s right. It’s buried in the insinuation . FEYERICK: Yeah. CHETRY: And I know that you’re hoping to get chance to sit down and talk to him one-on-one, correct? FEYERICK: Absolutely. We spoke to the developer, who couldn’t have been more honest about what this is about, and we’re hoping to get a chance to speak to him as well . CHETRY: Good stuff. VELSHI: Thanks for your great coverage on this. Thanks, Deb. Exactly a week earlier, on August 26, Feyerick joined the mainstream media’s guessing game over the aforementioned stabbing of the Muslim taxicab driver, advancing the hypothesis that it may have been ” connected to this big Ground Zero controversy, where we’re hearing so much anti-Muslim sentiment .” Who would have thought that a mere six weeks or so earlier, the correspondent actually played hardball with the real estate developer behind the New York City mosque, Sharif el-Gamel.
