Which Golden Globe Winner Topped Quentin Tarantino’s Top 11 of 2011?

Considering how unabashedly Quentin Tarantino wears his cinephilia on his sleeve, it’s always fascinating to get a peek inside that movie geek brain of his to see what’s swimming around. And thanks to The Quentin Tarantino Archives, the world now knows which 11 films of last year topped QT’s best-of list, which just missed the cut, and which movies, interestingly enough, earned his “Nice Try” award. Last year Tarantino named Toy Story 3 the best of the year while also praising Animal Kingdom , I Am Love , and Enter the Void in his choice cuts. This time around he seems to have stuck with mainstream cineplex offerings — no Melancholia , for example, and only one foreign language movie in the entire list! Browse his picks and see if you agree: Quentin Tarantino’s official Top Eleven of 2011 1. Midnight In Paris 2. Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes 3. Moneyball 4. The Skin I Live In 5. X-Men: First Class 6. Young Adult 7. Attack The Block 8. Red State 9. Warrior 10. The Artist / Our Idiot Brother (tie) 11. The Three Musketeers Others he liked (no particular order) 50/50 Beginners Hugo The Iron Lady Carnage Green Hornet Green Lantern Captain America The Descendants My Week With Marilyn Fast Five Tree Of Life The Hangover Part II Mission Impossible 4 The Beaver Contagion The Sitter War Horse Nice Try Award Drive Hanna Drive Angry Real Steel Maybe in 2011, while prepping Django Unchained , Tarantino didn’t get out much. It’s possible he watches more older movies than new ones. Perhaps genre exercises Drive , Drive Angry , and Hanna hewed too close to QT’s own wheelhouse to impress. But seriously, Quentin — the mess that was Green Lantern over the ubercool stylings of Nicholas Winding Refn? Explain thyself! Midnight in Paris , meanwhile, is such a solid #1 pick that I forgive any other oversights; after all, we all have gaps in our viewing habits, and no list is perfect. (I’m guessing/hoping Tarantino simply missed out on Shame , for example.) Eh, it’s Woody Allen’s best work in years. It won Best Screenplay at the Globes . I love the thought of Tarantino giving into the romance of it all, since he of all filmmakers gets the allure of nostalgia, clearly. Head over to The Quentin Tarantino Archives for the full list, including Tarantino’s picks for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Screenplay. Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV Drops At Midnight After VMAs

Weezy’s VMA performance and nominations lead up to the long-awaited release on Sunday night. By Alvin Blanco Lil Wayne Photo: Clinton Gilders/ FilmMagic Lil Wayne is going to dabble in a little midnight madness. Already scheduled to perform at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Weezy has just announced that he’ll also be dropping his highly anticipated new album, Tha Carter IV, at midnight, right after the show. “I am extremely excited to be the first artist to utilize such an amazing idea. I hope that I can open the door for others,” Lil Wayne said in a press statement. The YMCMB rapper’s latest will be released digitally via iTunes, Amazon and other legal MP3 download destinations at 12 a.m. on August 29. Those still dedicated to physical CDs need not worry since the album will be in retail stores later that Monday. The release of Tha Carter IV will be the capstone to a big night for Weezy, who is also up for Moonmen in the Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Collaboration categories. And despite Wayne’s skateboarding accident over the weekend (he tweeted that he needed nine stitches for a gash over his eye), he is sure to take the Nokia Theatre stage by storm this week. “The MTV Video Music Awards are one of the most watched and respected shows in the industry,” Ronald “Slim” Williams, CEO of Cash Money Records, said in a statement. “Wayne is one of the most respected and prolific artists in the industry. By pairing the release of Tha Carter IV with the VMAs, it will certainly add to the overall anticipation and excitement for fans everywhere for what will surely be an unforgettable evening.” With Jay-Z and Kanye West throwing a wrench into traditional album-release strategies with their Watch the Throne project, Lil Wayne has chosen to make his own release an event by coinciding with another. “Lil Wayne continues to change the game; this time with a new release strategy that demonstrates the power of the VMAs to grab the attention of music fans,” MTV President Stephen Friedman said. “After our millions of viewers experience the VMAs, they can go online at midnight and download the album they’ve all been waiting for.” Tha Carter IV ‘s latest single is “She Will” and will feature appearances from, T-Pain, Tech N9ne, Rick Ross, John Legend, Jadakiss, Nas and Busta Rhymes, among others. The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, August 28, from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. ‘Ghost Rider 2’ Trailer: An Expert Analysis

‘Spirit of Vengeance’ sneak peek has MTV Movies team excited for what’s to come from the Nicolas Cage superhero. By Eric Ditzian and Josh Wigler “Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance” Photo: Columbia Pictures The “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance” trailer popped up online late last week, and what else is there to say about it other than Nicolas Cage closes out the new footage by pissing fire? Well, it turns out there’s a heck of a lot left to say, which is why the MTV Movies team jumped into the comic book action for an expert commentary. The trailer begins sweetly, with a score reminiscent of “Lost” and some epic title cards: “He fought the curse … evil will force him … to face his demon.” But any wacky notion that directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, who also helmed the “Crank” films, have delivered a kinder, gentler Johnny Blaze is quickly dismissed when the music picks up and the flames flicker to reveal our first look at the new Ghost Rider. It’s a look the directors have spoken with us about at length. “We wanted this black skull, with this gasoline fire and this black, inky smoke to get this real feeling of explosions and fire and heat,” Neveldine said at San Diego Comic-Con . “That’s something we really went for: ‘Let’s feel the heat in this movie.’ ” The grittiness of this Ghost Rider most definitely shines through in the trailer. Charcoal skull? Check. A whiff of gasoline seemingly rising off the screen? Check. Neveldine and Taylor not holding back in this trailer and delivering a full-on look at our hero right off the bat? Check. And they don’t stop there, quickly showing off Ghost Rider’s signature move, the Penance Stare: He looks into your eyes and makes you feel all the pain and suffering you’ve ever inflicted on other people. This is no fairy-tale power. This is not X-ray vision. This is a hard-core demonic power, one which was not played very well in the first film. Even in this quick shot, the Stare looks very cool. Speaking of demonic powers, the trailer got us thinking this film might not just be a sequel to the 2007 original, but to Cage’s “Drive Angry,” the 3-D action flick that had the actor busting out of hell to inflict gory revenge on his enemies. Crazy talk? Sure. But since “Drive Angry” hardly performed well enough at the box office to justify a sequel, we’ll take whatever we can get. We get to see plenty of Ghost Rider here, but the trailer gives us the briefest glimpse of Johnny Whitworth as Blackout. He’s part human, part demon, all bad news. Whitworth is a guy to watch — hardly a household name but one who delivered an energetic supporting role in the largely forgettable “Limitless.” With Neveldine and Taylor in control, there is serious potential for killer fight scenes between Blackout and Ghost Rider. Another character we get a peek at is young Danny Ketch. Comic fans will know him as one of the guys who eventually becomes Ghost Rider. The big departure here is that Danny is a kid. In the comics, he’s a young man. While this film probably won’t turn into a passing of the torch from Cage’s Johnny Blaze to Danny as the next Ghost Rider, it’s nonetheless cool to see filmmakers laying the mythological groundwork. The trailer ends with pure, absurd fun: Ghost Rider declaring that it feels awesome when he pees fire. That’s essentially how Cage feels about the movie as a whole. “The Ghost Rider is just the coolest-looking superhero, and it has to be the one that goes to film and looks the best,” the actor told us at SDCC. “I think they’ve achieved that with this.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Mr. Skin’s Countdown to MAM-orial Day 2011: #1 Emmy Rossum

#1 in Skin Central’s Mam orial Day countdown of the best breasts of 2011 (so far) are the unbelievable boobs of Shameless star Emmy Rossum . Tit’s a shame to think Emmy kept her cans concealed for so long- she was 18 when she appeared in both The Phantom of the Opera (2004) and The Day After Tomorrow (2004). But she rectified this tit uation by showing her perfect pair in the very first episode of Showtime series Shameless – and almost every episode after that. On Shameless , Emmy plays oldest sister Fiona Gallagher, who’s taken on the very adult role of mothering her 5 younger siblings while their alcoholic dad spends his time drinking. Speaking of mothering, sweet mother of mercy would Skin Central like to suckle those stork stalks! Emmy’s Shameless – and we like her that way! Congratulations, Emmy Rossum ! You’ve got the pair to beat, so oil ‘em up and take off those tops, ladies, since the compeTITtion’s getting fierce!

First, we’ve got Charlotte Ross and Amber Heard leading a high-octane cast of naked ladies in Drive Angry , and the bare boobs of Roxanne Mesquida and Juno Temple to turn your crank shaft in Kaboom! . Coming around the corner, Megan Fox and Liezel Carstens ‘ Passion Play will have you passionately playing with yourself, and Anna Paquin will get your engine running as True Blood , Season 3 hits DVD and Blu-Ray. Headed towards the finish line, we’ve got bipolar boobies in Biutiful , and a lovely bit of the ol’ in-out for your droogies as A Clockwork Orange hits Blu-Ray. Nicholas Cage stars as John Milton, a criminal who breaks out of Hell to wreak vengeance on cult leader Jonah King ( Billy Burke ) in the campy action flick Drive Angry ( 2010). Hitching a ride with sexy waitress Piper ( Amber Heard ), John races to Louisiana to save his granddaughter from the jaws of Hell. Drive Angry is an exploitation explosion of sex, nudity, guns, nudity, hellfire, nudity, muscle cars- and did we mention nudity? Christa Campbell gets her butt kicked in the buff, exposing boobs and bush as she’s dragged outside by her hair. Busty blonde Charlotte Ross is also fully nude, exposing full frontal as she rides a fully dressed, impressively multitasking Nicholas Cage. Kimberly Shannon Murphy also bares all three B’s as a trigger-happy naked Satanist (say that 3 times fast)! Drive Angry? Try Drive Horny! Haley Bennett , Roxanne Mesquida , Juno Temple , and Thomas Dekker are a group of sexually experimental college students find their lives turned upside down after a night of psychedelic drugs and murder in the sexy sci-fi comedy Kaboom ( 2010). Along the way, we get skin from Haley and Roxanne as a couple of lesbians-until-graduation, a look at Juno’s jugs, and MILFtastic Kelly Lynch in a loose-fitting sports bra. Kaboob! Megan Fox always looks like an angel, but she didn’t literally become one until Passion Play (2010). Escaping an assassination attempt in the New Mexico desert, Nate ( Mickey Rourke ) stumbles across a weird circus featuring “Lily the Bird Girl”( Megan Fox ). Skintrigued by the discovery that Lily actually has wings,Nate hatches a plan to spirit her away from the circus. Megan Fox continues to defy male fans’ sexpectations in this flick, showing her frilly white and sexy red panties but never taking them off. Liezel Carstens is way less skingy as a tattooed lady wearing nothing but a thong and a smile as she shoots Mickey full of drugs. You’ll wanna stick her with your needle! Alan Ball , screenwriter of the Thora Birch boob showcase American Beauty and the acclaimed flesh-friendly funeral-home drama Six Feet Under , returns to HBO with True Blood . This series takes place in Louisiana two years after vampires have “come out of the coffin” in public, stating that they simply want to live and work and not suck your blood like any other folk in day-to-day (or sunset-to-sunrise) society. Psychic barmaid Sookie Stackhouse ( Anna Paquin ) falls hard when a vampire named Bill ( Stephen Moyer ) lurches into her tavern—but can she trust a seductive member of the undead? True Blood is loaded with enough goth hotties and luscious victims of vampiric doings to put a wooden stake permanently in your pants. Javier Bardem is a man with a lot on his mind in Biutiful (2010). Uxbal (Bardem) is a family man who just found out he has terminal cancer. He also has a self-destructive, bipolar ex-wife. All the bizarre, complicated, chaotic elements of Uxbal’s life come back to haunt him in this poetic drama. Sounds depressing? That’s because it is. But sweet relief comes in the form of Maricel Alvarez . 20 minutes in, Maricel answers the door wearing nothing but panties, then casually jumps up on her bed and starts dancing with her chimichangas exposed. Later, Uxbal visits an odd strip club where the topless dancers wear giant breast helmets and nipples on their butts. We don’t know what that means, but we know it’s biutiful. Sex and violence have never been more intricately intertwined than in the eroticized, fetishistic mayhem of A Clockwork Orange (1971). As Alex, Malcolm McDowell ’s threeway with a pair of drugged-up teenyboppers is one of the most hyper-kinetic and humorous sex scenes ever committed to film. Later, Alex and his “droogs” interrupt a rival gang in their rape of a full-frontal-flashing blonde. The movie’s most visceral footage is of a rape during a home invasion burglary, an example of incidental brutality that has only ever been equaled by a similar outrage in the original Death Wish ( 1974). Like that Charles Bronson morality tale, the characters in A Clockwork Orange tend to receive the comeuppance they deserve. C U Next Tuesday, Skin fans, for all the newest, nudest releases on DVD and Blu-Ray right here on the Mr. Skin blog !

Drive Angry’s William Fichtner Plays My Favorite Scene, Recalls Rocky Soap Opera Beginnings

The great tragedy in Drive Angry 3D ‘s lackluster opening last weekend isn’t that the B-movie homage didn’t make more money, but that more people didn’t get to see William Fichtner steal the show as The Accountant, the no-nonsense supernatural CPA from hell doggedly tracking Nic Cage’s every move on earth. Fichtner, one of Hollywood’s most beloved character actors, gives a master class in added-value acting in the film, which he discussed with Movieline last week before musing further on muscle cars, The Godfather Part II , and his soap opera beginnings.

REVIEW: Drive Angry 3-D Is Disreputable Fun, Until 3-D Fatigue Sets In

Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer’s exploitation extravaganza Drive Angry 3-D is not recommended for the squeamish, the highly suggestible, or children under 40. It should be OK for everyone else, though, particularly those with a high threshold for disreputability and a fondness for ’70s-era drive-in caliber action junk. Its hero, played by Nicolas Cage, is a vigilante from hell; his mission, or at least one of them, is to tell the world to eat his dust.

‘Hall Pass’ Leads Friday Box Office

Comedy bags $4.6 million; Nic Cage’s ‘Drive Angry’ flops in ninth place. By Shawn Adler Jason Sudeikis and Owen Wilson in “Hall Pass” Photo: Warner Bros. Oscar weekend is typically a time for movie insiders to recognize high-brow, dramatic fare. But no matter who takes home the statues Sunday night, it’s the raunchy, hilarious team behind flicks like “There’s Something About Mary” and “Kingpin” who are taking home the gold. “Hall Pass,” starring Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis, topped all comers at the Friday-night box office with an estimated $4.6 million from 2,950 screens. If form holds, it will be the first # 1 opening for writing/directing duo Peter and Bobby Farrelly since 2000’s “Me, Myself and Irene.” Not far behind in second place, Liam Neeson’s “Unknown” managed to punch up nearly $3.9 million from 3,043 screens in its second week of release. Two years after dominating the February box office with “Taken,” the secretly badass star should push “Unknown” past $40 million total by the end of the weekend. While America’s love affair with Neeson waxes, however, its relationship with Nicolas Cage may have waned irrevocably. New release “Drive Angry,” featuring the Oscar winner turned action star’s latest wackadoo performance , was good enough for only $1.6 million and ninth place. The weak opening is the latest in a string of recent flops for Cage, including “Season of the Witch” and “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” In third place, “Just Go With It” starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston pulled in $3.3 million. Rounding out the top five, “Gnomeo and Juliet” and “I Am Number Four” earned $3.16 million and $3.14 million, respectively. With a new “Director’s Fan Cut” , out this weekend only, Justin Bieber managed to hold strong at sixth place, as his 3-D concert flick “Never Say Never” scored $2.7 million. The flick’s cumulative gross should breeze past $60 million this weekend. Among Oscar hopefuls, “The King’s Speech” (eighth place) continued its impressive run. The presumptive favorite at the Academy Awards brought its total to $108 million with a $1.9 million Friday haul.
