Guy Whines About Roommates Stealing Food, Misses Real Culprit

This viral video can’t be staged … and yet it can’t not be. How else can you explain the fact that this downtrodden-sounding, scraggly apartment dweller just happened to turn on his webcam to lament that his roommates have been (allegedly) stealing his food, only to unknowingly capture the real culprit in the act? Also, why videotape this at all? Who are you talking to? Questions for another day. Regardless, this is a classic: Guy Complains About Roommates’ Food Theft

Jean-Claude Van Damme Wants to Be Taken Seriously as an Actor, Like Clint Eastwood

Having revealed his inner thespian in 2008’s JCVD , Belgian martial artist Jean-Claude Van Damme wants to be taken more seriously as an actor. Speaking with Box Office Magazine — ironically, to promote his latest actioner, the hit man thriller Assassination Games (in limited release July 29) — the Muscles from Brussels cited Clint Eastwood as a career role model: “I love action films, and my fans expect action films, but I can act! And I really want a chance to show what I can do.” Note to Jean-Claude: The first step in being taken more seriously? Stop making movies with titles like Assassination Games . Spiritually Bankrupt: Catholic Church hiding assets from Abuse Victims

This is written with a sense of sadness and some mixed feelings. While not a member of the Roman Catholic Church, I have great respect for the church and its followers. The church has done and continues to do much good in the world. I've seen it among the poor, the downtrodden, and the ill all around the globe. But with a team of other investigative reporters, we uncovered some things that should be brought to light and pondered. Earlier this month, Pope Benedict XVI issued the first apology to priest abuse victims from St. Peter's Square – a gesture intended to show that church leadership is finally ready to confront this growing scandal. But in reporting a recent story, we found that behind the scenes – and in court – the church has taken a much less contrite and more confrontational position. Our investigation found that in various dioceses across the United States, church leaders were going great lengths to avoid making amends with the same victims of abuse they claimed to be trying to make peace with. Facing waves of lawsuits by now-adult victims, we found the church has reacted more like a big business than a sacred institution: Wealthy dioceses have claimed to be broke and taken the drastic act of filing for bankruptcy. Only when forced to open their ledgers in bankruptcy proceedings does it become clear that several of these dioceses were actually flush with assets – cash, real estate, parishes – that it could have made available to victims seeking restitution. Take the Diocese of San Diego: In 2007, just before several abuse cases were scheduled to begin, it filed for bankruptcy. It sought this protection despite owning hundreds of millions of dollars worth of real estate – everything from commercial buildings, to open land, to parking lots. Only after it became clear that the bankruptcy judge was ready to dismiss the diocese's bankruptcy filing did the church seek to settle with victims. At the end of the bankruptcy proceedings, the judge, a Catholic, scolded the church for being “disingenuous.” Story Continues – with DAN RATHER video report http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dan-rather/spiritually-bankrupt_b_629424.html added by: Stoneyroad

Vienna Girardi: Inconsolable, Devastated By Jake Pavelka’s Dancing with the Stars Elimination

We know it’s hard to say goodbye, but Jake Pavelka and his fiancee, Vienna Girardi, may be taking his Dancing with the Stars elimination a little hard. The future spouses didn’t cope so well after The Bachelor star was sent packing last night, a fitting result after he stumbled during his samba Monday. Before the show even aired, Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi reportedly huddled together, held hands and prayed. Sadly, God did not come through. When his name was called, he and Girardi looked devastated. Pavelka mouthed to her, “It’s OK.” But it really wasn’t. He soon broke down in tears. After Pavelka cried through his farewell speech, he eventually made his way over to his fiancee, whom he called “beautiful” in his closing remarks. WOMEN OF JAKE PAVELKA : Vienna Girardi was not pleased at his elimination from Dancing with the Stars. He and partner Chelsie Hightower were sent packing last night . The two looked absolutely “miserable, depressed and inconsolable” as they hugged and chatted when the DWTS cameras went off, witnesses say. Deena Katz, the head producer/director, even walked over to comfort Jake Pavelka . Even that was not enough to comfort the downtrodden pilot. “Well guys, I did everything I could,” he Twittered later that night. “Layed [sic] it all out there on the dance floor. I’m pretty bumbed [sic]… :(” Profound . Interestingly, Pavelka and his pro partner, Chelsie Hightower, parted ways immediately after cameras stopped rolling, hardly appearing like the best friend Pavelka gushed about on stage. Hmm. Perhaps V’s a little jealous?
