Who Looked More Bangin’: Beyonce vs. Paula Patton

The battle of the soon-to-be mommy-banger vs. the veteran mommy banger Bey-Bey showed up to the event in a slimming lil black number, probably in an attempt to keep that baby bump low-key. Paula Patton kept it simple but still classy and beautiful. Peep the additional pics of Lucy Lui, “Screamin’” Serena Williams, BDR and Baron Davis with their swirly arm pieces below. That said, who looked more bangin’???

Long Live King B: BeyBey Upstaged Poor Little Kelly Rowland Again…At Her Own Damn Party!

Well this is expected, right?? It may have been Kelly Rowland’s party, but it turned into Beyoncé’s room. The sultry “Single Ladies” songstress took part in a Destiny’s Child reunion at the Top of the Standard on Tuesday night, but only after her former bandmates came to her. With her husband, Jay-Z, out on the West Coast, Beyoncé showed up at the Standard Hotel hot spot accompanied only by a security detail. Upon her arrival around 1 a.m., Beyoncé’s bodyguards initially seemed to be leading her toward the back of the club where Rowland was celebrating the release of her third solo album, “Here I Am,” with the third member of Destiny’s Child, Michelle Williams, and British pop star Estelle. But then the script got flipped. Although the crowd had thinned considerably by the time Beyoncé arrived, her appearance caused quite a stir among the remaining revelers. As a result, her handlers seemed to think better of ferrying Beyoncé through the clamoring crowd to the back of the room. Instead, they installed the diva in one of the club’s front banquettes and brought Rowland to her. The security detail also set about preventing anyone from snapping Sasha Fierce’s picture. One bodyguard went so far as to shine his flashlight in the faces of would-be shutterbugs. When Rowland arrived at her former band-mate’s banquette, the two reunited with a very long hug. Before the reunited pop trio left the club together around 2 a.m., Rowland took to the microphone to thank those who’d attended, including singer Maxwell, model Jessica White, actress Tika Sumpter and Kanye West protégé Big Sean. The deejay then played the first single from Rowland’s album, “Motivation,” and it lived up to its title. Beyoncé and Williams were soon singing and dancing along to the track before calling it a night. SMH at Kelly having to be “brought to” King Beysus at her own damn party. Poor thang. Source

Reflection Eternal Flexed ‘Acting Skills’ In ‘Midnight Hour’ Video

‘It brought us out of what we normally do — the real hard hip-hop videos,’ Hi-Tek says of clip with partner Talib Kweli. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Sway, DJ Hi-Tek and Talib Kweli Photo: MTV News When Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek first debuted as Reflection Eternal 10 years ago , the duo’s most well-known visual stemmed from their breakout hit “The Blast.” The video for that song found Kweli and Tek sitting on a park bench outside a housing project as they rapped in a rainstorm — the epitome of the underground hip-hop aesthetic at the time. These days, the duo’s creative process is far different. After individually pursuing musical projects in the ensuing decade, Reflection Eternal were ready to step out of their comfort zone when they came together again for their new album Revolutions Per Minute. The pair took a novel direction on the Alex Moors-directed clip for “Midnight Hour,” a Doo-Wop inspired number. “I think it’s more conceptual. It brought us out of what we normally do — you know, the real hard hip-hop [videos],” Hi-Tek told MTV News of the video, which features Estelle. “It gave us a chance to get our acting skills on, to have fun with a video as opposed to being so serious about it. … [Instead], we just had fun with the music.” “It’s just a look, we were going for a certain vibe,” Kweli added. “Graphically artistic.” The opening shot shows a record spinning before the camera pans up to reveal Estelle crooning the chorus into a 1950s-style microphone. Kweli and Hi-Tek are dressed sharply in conservative looks: a slim-fitting suit, tie, and glasses for rapper Kweli, and a cardigan, bow tie, and newsboy cap for the producer. The video is mostly performance-based and centers on the three collaborators singing and dancing. According to Hi-Tek, the song was originally slated for Estelle’s debut album. But when it didn’t make it to the Brit singer’s Shine, the track went unused for two years until finally landing on the hip-hop duo’s Revolutions. Reuniting with Kweli for their sophomore set gave the song a new release opportunity. “I was working on joints for her album, and I was working on my third [solo] album and we cut two records,” Tek explained. “One for my album and [one for Estelle’s], which we wanted to submit for the project, but it was too late for her album. It was sitting for two years, and I played it for Kwe and he loved it. I didn’t really think it was a record for our album, but we made it work. And it’s a classic piece of music, so it should be heard rather than sitting in my crates.” What do you think about Reflection Eternal’s “Midnight Hour” video? Let us know in the comments! Estelle Addresses Use Of Black Makeup In ‘Freak’ Video

‘I could defend myself, but it’s just silly,’ singer says of ‘blackface’ criticism. By Hillary Crosley Estelle in the preview for her music video “Freak” Photo: EstelleMusic.com/ Youtube After her breakthough album Shine, British songstress-rapper Estelle has returned with a new single, “Freak,” from her forthcoming album, All of Me. However, the song’s video — segments of which show her wearing black makeup on her face and body — did not go over well with some of her fans online . “Those comments were the first thing I saw after we released the video trailer,” Estelle told MTV News on Monday (March 1). “It’s like, ‘Are you joking?’ ” The “Freak” clip was directed by frequent Kanye West collaborator Nabil Elderkin and the song itself is a bouncy dance-track produced by David Guetta, featuring Canadian MC Kardinal Offishall. The lyrics address people releasing their individuality and the clip features Estelle in a multitude of looks, including black body paint. However, the director said it’s meant to be in fun. “We are making a video about Estelle acting freaky and we’re gonna do lots of things: turns, fingers, beauty looks, freaky looks, fast dancers, it’s gonna be hot,” Elderkin says in the clip’s promotional trailer. (The director was unavailable for comment at press time.) Estelle said she and the director are longtime friends and he understands that her creative vision is “coming from a place of art versus just trying to be different.” She also declined to address the online chatter directly. “I think they need to wait to see the clip. I could defend myself, but it’s just silly,” Estelle said of the comments. “I’m black, so how do I do blackface? Missy did the same thing [with her video] “She’s a Bitch.” I refuse to defend it, I didn’t put any white ring around my mouth — never that.” Estelle said the “Freak” video will hit the web this week and her album will hits shelves this summer. Robin Thicke Rides ‘Rollacoasta’ With ‘Amazing Talent’ Estelle

‘We’re just talking about the roller coaster of romance,’ Thicke tells MTV News on the video’s set. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kelly Marino Robin Thicke Photo: MTV News Robin Thicke isn’t shy about hooking up with the ladies to make soulful, sexy duets. Having already worked with Leighton Meester and Nicki Minaj , it was time for Thicke to recruit some vocals from across the pond. For his song “Rollacoasta,” Thicke brought British chanteuse Estelle along for the ride. The collaboration was a perfect fit, Thicke said, especially since he had Estelle in mind when he started working on the Sex Therapy song. Plus, the pair have a history, having performed several shows together in the past. “She’s just an amazing talent,” he told MTV News on the set of the music video for “Rollacoasta.” “She’s a rapper. She’s a singer. She’s a writer. So it was really meant to be, and when I had this record, I was thinking to myself [that] it was perfect [for Estelle].” The song is all about the ups and downs of love, as the title suggests. And while the song’s subject matter is deep, Thicke wanted to keep the video’s vibe a little lighter. “The song is about the roller coaster you go through in a single relationship, but in this video, we’re just talking about the roller coaster of romance,” he explained. “We’re trying to throw a nice little house party that’s representative of the house parties that I have at my house, which is classy, sexy, wild, naughty all at the same time.” Thicke also recently released a provocative new video for “Sex Therapy.” Related Photos Robin Thicke Hosts Sex Therapy Album Release Party Related Artists Robin Thicke
