Source: filadendron / Getty Speaking to many women with natural hair in America, the way you wear your hair to work can be a source of anxiety and sometimes even trauma. There is pressure to wear ones’ hair straight, which is often deemed “presentable” in the work. Whether it’s navigating how to wear your hair for an interview or changing your hair into box braids for summer only not to be recognized by your co-workers, natural hair in the workplace is unnecessarily stressful. Well, now, California is helping you deal with that. California lawmakers have passed The CROWN Act, a bill to protect Black employees and students by outlawing discrimination against people with natural hairstyles like afros, dreadlocks, braids, and twists. The bill states, “The history of our nation is riddled with laws and societal norms that equated ‘blackness’ and the associated physical traits, for example, dark skin, kinky and curly hair to a badge of inferiority.” The bill shines light (and protection) on the fact that European aesthetics have been the standard for beauty and have unfairly targeted Black workers and students more than any other group. The CROWN Act stands for ‘Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair. While there were no “no” votes, Sen. Holly Mitchell, D-Los Angeles told NPR , “I have no idea why they abstained.” There were 10 politicians that chose not to vote on the bill including Frank Bigelow, Joe Cervantes, Steve Cooley, Duke Cunningham, James Gallagher, Tom Lackey, Monique Limon, Evan Low, Kevin McCarty and Melissa Melendez. While it wasn’t important to them, it was important to Mitchell, who told NPR, “The sheer volume of women and men and parents of students who have been sent home because someone deems their braids, twists, or locs were inappropriate for workplace settings, the sheer volume of people, suggests this clearly is a law whose time has come.” Dove was criticized in 2017 for a body lotion ad featuring a Black woman who took off her shirt to become a white woman, has supported this bill. The brand has also been working diligently for more representation, partnering with Getty Images and more. New York and New Jersey has proposed similar legislation. In February, NYC enacted its own policy protecting afros, braids, fades and other black hairstyles. We hope more states take a look at the CROWN Act and start to enact their own legislation. A shocking but widely believed report claims that Prince William was caught cheating on Kate Middleton while she was pregnant. Subsequent reports have explained how this shook up the royal family and how family friends and eventually tabloids learned about it. But the royal family wants all reports on the matter to cease — and they’re issuing a legal threat to silence the rumors. Attorneys with the comically British law firm, Harbottle and Lewis, have released a statement on reports of Prince William’s alleged affair. “In addition to being false and highly damaging,” the statement begins. “The publication of false speculation in respect of our client’s private life also constitutes a breach of his privacy.” The statement explains that this breach is “pursuant to Article 8 of the European Convention to Human Rights.” That’s a pretty hefty accusation. The contentious report claims that Prince Wiliam was caught having an affair with Rose Hanbury, Marchioness of Cholmondeley. Until fairly recently, William and Kate had been besties with Rose and her husband, David. But the claim is that William had an affair with Rose during Kate’s most recent pregnancy. Reports say that Kate discovered it, confronted William, and demanded that he break off all contact with Rose. The sudden distance between the couples is what clued people in to the fact that something was apparently “up.” Additionally, some believe that this scandal, long kept secret, was the cause of reported conflicts between Harry and William. According to allegations and rumors, Harry resents his brother’s reported affair. Not only does he find it unbecoming and unfair to Kate, but it reminds him of their father, Prince Charles’ cheating on their mother. Meanwhile, some feckless rumors have said that Meghan Markle is some sort of nightmare who is causing drama for the royal family. She has been silently blamed for an alleged sibling feud, and Harry has reportedly been frustrated that he cannot publicly exonerate his wife. Harbottle and Lewis aren’t just asserting that the claim is false. They’re threatening legal action against news outlets that report on it. News outlets within the UK, that is. Additionally, sources within Kensington Palace have reportedly condemned reports of the affair. The continuing message seems to be that everyone should shut up about the story because it’s pure rubbish. Are reports about Prince William’s personal life actually a violation of the European Convention on Human Rights? Well … it’s complicated. Article 8 describes people being entitled to respect for one’s “private and family life, his home, and his correspondence.” But it also makes it clear that certain restrictions apply, notably those “necessary in a democratic society.” As a prince and heir to the throne, Prince William is about as much of a public figure as one possibly can be. Interest in his life isn’t merely natural — it’s justified, considering the millions that taxpayers spend each year to protect him and his family. For months and months, rumors about Meghan Markle tearing apart the royal family and being vicious to the staff have bounced around. Kensington Palace has replied to some requests for comment by denying rumors, but the royals have seemed to mostly ignore these wild claims. But many have gotten the impression that the family is deeply concerned with this report about William and Kate. Some believe that all of these attempts to silence rumors are a case of the royals protesting too much . Others say that maybe they just take a rumor about a likely heir very seriously. Does the royal family still have the kind of power and influence to totally quash a story that it doesn’t like? We guess that we’ll find out. … View Slideshow: Prince William: Was He REALLY Caught Cheating on Kate Middleton? Here’s Everything We Know So Far
Source: Maury Phillips / Getty We all watched Eva Marcille walk down the aisle on Sunday’s episode of Real Housewives Of Atlanta , and apparently so did her estranged (maybe not estranged) baby’s daddy Kevin McCall. According to the former Chris Brown collaborator, he and Eva have been creating “drama” between them to “create revenue.” Oh yeah? Does Eva know this? McCall was responding to a fan on social media, who claimed they saw him in the audience at the wedding. He responded, ““Bingo. This is all scripted. But don’t let me spoil the fun.” When another fan suggested he couldn’t possibly be at the wedding because Eva has an order of protection out on him. McCall then chimed in, “I’m amazed that people still don’t realize the obvious… look the Jigs up, me and my Bm work together to create Drama for revenue. It’s nothing yal can say… ‘yeah we played you…so!’ – cross Over Voice I have my child’s birth certificate we gonna be just fine keep watching” He also said the order of protection in fake. “That’s scripted too. Show me the order.” Whatever the case, Eva and Mike Sterling are happily married and seem unbothered by McCall’s antics. Source: Lisa Bonner / Lisa Bonner São Paulo is getting a facelift. It is easy to understand why Brazil’s largest city of 12 million people, was once known as a commercial city catering solely to business people: because that’s exactly what it was. No longer. Over the past few decades, São Paulo began to slowly reinvent itself, making it more livable for its citizens using its natural resources, and began subtly courting tourists with its global spin on São Paulo’s distinctly Brazilian culture. It worked. São Paulo transformed itself from a flyover city into a destination in its own right. Leisure tourism is up 50% over the past 5 years thanks to São Paulo’s urban renewal that touts medical tourism, Michelin starred restaurants, bustling nightlife, and world-class museums. If you only had time to visit Avenida Paulista (Paulista Avenue), you’d get a good representation of São Paulo all on one street. Visiting on a Sunday, the Avenue is closed to cars, so you can hop on a bike down São Paulo’s most famous thoroughfare. Otherwise, take a stroll town this storied street, which depending on the time of year, plays host to the Gay Pride Parade, and the Sylvester Road Race, and on any given day it’s not unusual to spot a political protest. This commercial corridor headquarters financial institutions, and features both street and retail shopping. Spend some time in the areas buttressing the Avenue, Parque Tenente Siqueira Campos (Trianon Park) that mimics a tranquil rainforest just off the Avenue on one side and MASP, South America’s most famous fine arts museum on the other. MASP is home to many famous European artworks, but also features a large collection of impressive Brazilian and Afro Brazilian pieces as well. Vila Madalena, arguably São Paulo’s chicest and coolest neighborhood is famous for its eclectic street art, graffiti and art galleries, but was once little village owned by Portuguese farmhands and accessible only on foot or by horse. Now easily reached by public transportation or ride share, you can wander through Batman Alley to see some of the neighborhood’s famous murals and street art, then pop into Bar Samba https://www.yelp.com/biz/bar-samba-são-paulo for some of the city’s best Samba dancing. If you’re looking for retail therapy, there are some lovely boutiques here that feature artwork and crafts from local Brazilian artisans. Source: Lisa Bonner / Lisa Bonner Looking for shopping, Rua Oscar Freire (Oscar Freire Street) is one of South America’s most elegant shopping districts featuring high end local and international designers, restaurants and ice cream parlors. The best kept secret, there were a few international bookstores, which are increasingly hard to find in the Americas outside of an airport, and each had copies of our #ForeverFlotus’ book “Becoming.” I hopped off the plane craving some Brazilian rice and beans, and couvee (Brazilian’s version of collard greens), but I quickly learned that traditional Brazilian fare is harder to find here, because this city has a gastronomic identity all its own. Source: Lisa Bonner / Lisa Bonner Casa de Porco https://acasadoporco.com.br (House of the Pig) a 2017 and 2018 Michelin starred restaurant is consistently voted one of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants, and for good reason: it’s a carnivore’s dream. The Brazilian born chef creates a mixture of dishes from the entirely of the pig; and I’m talking about cooking up everything from the rooter to the tooter, and the innards, and the skin; imagine your Granny’s cooking with a Y2k flair. Think pork sushi, or pig’s feet stew, everything you can imagine and more that can be made from the pig, is. If you abstain from meat like I do, there are plenty of vegetarian options created to mimic the pork dishes. The veggie options and the craft cocktails were quite good, making it easy to accompany your flesh eating friends to this restaurant, because this is a dining sensation for pork eaters that truly should not be missed. If you’re up for a little jaunt outside the city, hop in a rideshare, which are insanely inexpensive, hightail it to Restaurant Mocoto, an unassuming little shack about 30 minutes outside of the city center, that houses a Michelin starred restaurant https://mocoto.com.br/en/ . Helmed by Chef Rodrigo Oliviera, who is super easy on the eyes, this eatery is one of the World’s Best 50 Restaurants. The restaurant, started by Rodrigo’s father in 1974, is now a gastronomic must and features signature dishes of feijoada (on Saturdays), tapioca cheese cubes with pork, homemade pork sausages flambéed with cachaça, along with poetry inscribed walls and Brazilian artwork, along with a caipirinha bar featuring over 100 varieties of cachaça. If you can’t make it to São Paulo, Chef Rodrigo will be opening a stateside location in West Hollywood later this year! Your visit to São Paulo wouldn’t be complete without trying these typical dishes: Source: Lisa Bonner / Lisa Bonner Mortadella Sandwiches- these are huge stacks of mortadella sausage (roughly a half pound) which must be folded in half to avoid the obvious density of a half pound of meat, provolone cheese, sourdough bread, mayonnaise and Dijon mustard. Feijoada- The national dish of Brazil, is a black bean stew served with various cuts of meat and pork sausage served on Saturdays. Head over to one of Boteco São Bento’s locations for this famous dish. Pão de queijo- the famous Brazilian cheese bread which can be eaten for breakfast or just as a snack. You’ll find them on every street corner or deli and many restaurants throughout São Paulo. People flying down to Brazil for medical procedures is nothing new. Think the “Brazilian Butt Lift.” São Paulo is undeniably the leader in medical and healthcare services in Brazil, and has the most accredited private hospitals in Latin America. Aside from the typical butt lift, breast implants and the various cosmetic surgeries readily available, including facial fillers, you can easily obtain eye surgeries, fertility treatments, dental treatments and implants, bariatric surgeries, even chemotherapy at a fraction of the cost of the treatments available in North America. Plan in advance by doing your research for the more invasive procedures. https://www.health-tourism.com/medical-tourism-brazil/sao-paulo/ However if you are just looking for a little “refresher,” the hotel concierge can easily refer you to an outpatient clinic or stop into one of the many “clinics” available for a quick touch up, such as Espaco Pop Beauty http://espacopopbeauty.com.br . Lea Rostain and Salomé Walbrou are two naked babes showing off their bush in what looks like some Bohemian french artist’s studio / apartment, which is a great setting to make the nudity seem less shameless and attention seeking, and more artistic and high concept thanks to the whole integration of the artist…giving reason to be nude even though we are in an era with no need to be nude. It’s European, with the French bush vibe…like the roaring 20s or even then 1900s in France where there was a huge sexual revolution, lesbians and nudity…lots of wine and cheese….intellectuals coming together and living their best life.. Only it’s the 2019s and this kind of behavior is just instagram porn fodder and not high concept edgy or interesting at all. It is not political or making any intellectual progress or statement. It’s just two naked bitches together in a room and there’s nothing wrong with that…but rather everything perfect with that. JOHN MACDOUGALL/AFP/Getty Images A Former L’Oréal Executive Is Suing The Company For Discrimination And Other Issues A former marketing executive at L’Oréal is now trying to expose the alleged ugly side of the beauty brand in a new lawsuit. The employee, Amanda Johnson, is suing the cosmetics giant for discrimination along with claiming she endured a toxic work environment while employed with the company. Johnson claims that she was fired by phone after being promoted to assistant VP of digital marketing. She also says her boss Dan Bethelmy Rada would have “all-night benders and hotel parties . . . for which Rada expected Johnson to enlist ‘recruits,’ ” the suit explains, which was filed in New York federal court. Johnson is claiming that she witnessed a male executive watching porn during a business meeting, as well as sex-fueled parties at luxury European hotels during work trips, along with rampant racist hostility from management. The complaint also states that Johnson felt physically threatened by a fellow VP, Nicolas Krafft–she claims that she was fired after submitting an internal complaint to Rada. A L’Oréal spokesperson refuted the claims, calling them “baseless.” They told Page Six the following: “Amanda Johnson was fired for a pattern of unprofessional conduct that surfaced during her final months at the company, including what in our view was abusive and threatening behavior toward colleagues, serious lapses in judgment, and declining performance.” The rep added, “After she was let go, Ms. Johnson raised some alarming allegations about her manager and certain co-workers through a lawyer. We took her allegations seriously and investigated them all with great care, as they had not been reported to [HR] when she was with the company.” Johnson’s lawyers quickly fired back at this denial, saying, “L’Oréal’s public response to Ms. Johnson’s complaint shows that the company holds underrepresented minorities to a different standard in all respects. L’Oréal again has wrongfully tried to discredit and punish the victim, an African-American woman, by choosing to accept a false version of events as told by a few white employees on its payroll. L’Oréal’s so-called ‘investigation’ conducted ‘with great care’ did not even include asking Ms. Johnson for her side of the story.”
