Daniel Tosh Rape Joke Results in Uproar, Apology

Daniel Tosh has been known to push the envelope, but a recent joke about an audience member being gang-raped took it too far, even by his standards. On Friday, the star of Comedy Central’s Tosh.0 was doing standup at The Laugh Factory in L.A. and said at one point that rape jokes are always funny. After a female audience member vocally disagreed, things got ugly. According to the woman, Tosh said, “Wouldn’t it be funny if that girl got raped by like, 5 guys right now? Like right now? What if a bunch of guys just raped her.” The woman and her friend, both “completely stunned” and “humiliated,” high-tailed it out of there as the audience guffawed in response to Tosh’s wisecrack. After she documented the experience on Tumblr, Tosh linked to the post and tweeted , “all the out of context misquotes aside, I’d like to sincerely apologize.” Smart move, though Laugh Factory owner Jamie Masada was quick to defend him: “Comedians tell jokes and sometimes they can be off color … Daniel Tosh is one of the most caring people I know. He had no intentions of hurting anyone.” “I understand where she’s coming from, but [Tosh] didn’t attack [her] … I feel bad for her and I apologize to her. If you are a member of the audience and you start dishing out something to a comedian, you better be able to take it.” Also fair. What do you think? Should Daniel have apologized? UPDATE: The woman complained to the manager but was offered and accepted a refund and two complimentary tickets to the club, so beef quashed.

Charlie Sheen to Judge American Idol?!?

We can’t imagine this is real, but it’s certainly intriguing. With rumors circulating that American Idol may hire an entirely new judging team on Season 12 – Will it include Adam Lambert ? Miley Cyrus? Nicki Minaj? – producer Nigel Lythoe has reportedly given TMZ two names of who he’d love to see behind the table: Jerry Lewis… and Charlie Sheen. Give his sordid/colorful/ridiculous history, we somehow doubt Lythgoe would ever place Sheen in charge of a show that targets teenagers as its core audience, but the actor told the site he’d be up for it. Depending on certain conditions. “If the numbers move the needle AND ‘Idol’ matches 20% of my weekly salary for Autism Speaks, JDRF, and the Boys and Girls Club… then the hell with it,” Sheen told TMZ. “As we say, pour the smoke.” Charlie, only you say that. What do you think? Should American Idol hire Charlie Sheen as a judge?

Demi Lovato to Bath Salt Rapping X Factor Hopefuls: See Ya!

Be warned, future X Facto r hopefuls: Demi Lovato means business. Especially when it comes to drugs. The new judge – whose history with substance abuse is well-known – reportedly stopped a couple of contestants in their rapping tracks this week because their lyrics included references to “bath salts,” a synthetic powder that has been compared to cocaine and crystal meth – and was even rumored to be responsible for zombie attacks in Miami earlier this year. Said an E! News source of the Greensboro audition: “She wasn’t having any of it. She said ‘It’s really irresponsible to be rapping about drugs in front of kids.’ Then they tried to make excuses and Demi said, ‘You talked about bath salts, I heard you.'” Lovato ordered the young rappers to exit the stage, the insider added, and the “rest of the judges completely backed her.” Between this example, and reports that Britney Spears recently walked off the X Factor set because a drag queen tried to pay tribute to her with a rendition of “(You Drive Me) Crazy,” there’s little doubt: Season 2 of the Fox competition will bring the serious drama!

By Adam Stewart Above & Beyond Photo: Anjunabeats MIAMI — Last night in Miami’s downtown district, Above & Beyond threw their annual homage to trance with their massive Anjunabeats party, which this year was held at the Ice Palace for the first time. Having expanded into their new home from their usual venue Karu & Y, the Ice Palace offered a massive space for the enthused crowed to hear Jono and Paavo, two-thirds of the trance trio, spin a killer set. Hitting the massive LED-wrapped stage after an invigorating set by the reunited duo Gabriel & Dresden, the crowd erupted as the trance legends dove right into it, opening with “The Taxi Driver” by Andrew Bayer. Bret Michaels Sues Tonys Over 2009 Onstage Injury

Lawsuit cites the incident as cause of Poison frontman’s near-fatal brain hemorrhage last year. By James Dinh Bret Michaels Photo: Brian Ach/WireImage Bret Michaels is suing Tony Award Productions and CBS for his stage mishap at the 2009 Tony Awards , where the rock singer slammed his head against a stage prop that descended from the ceiling. TMZ reports that the lawsuit, which was filed Friday (March 25), has Michaels alleging that he was not properly instructed on how to exit the stage following his “Nothin’ But a Good Time” performance alongside his Poison bandmates and the cast of the “Rock of Ages” musical. He claims he had to be hospitalized for a broken nose and a cut lip. However, things took a turn for the worse six months later when the rock star nearly died from a subarachnoid brain hemorrhage . And in the lawsuit, Michaels, who is suing for unspecified damages, claims that the onstage injury is in direct relation with his near-fatal hospitalization. “One of the most common causes of this type of hemorrhage is head trauma — exactly like the one Michaels suffered at the hands of the Tony Awards,” the lawsuit claims. “Through his sheer will to live, to see his children grow up, [he] was able to survive this trauma.” Bret says in the suit that producers have “failed and refused” to help aid the situation and claimed that he “missed his mark” during the performance. Reps for Michaels have previously alleged the awards show’s negligence in the incident. In a statement to MTV News days after the mishap, the singer’s reps cited a “lack of communication” between their client and “the producers, directors, stage managers and crew” of the awards show.
