Lauryn Hill Is ‘Starting To Get Excited’ About Performing Again

‘I think it’s just time,’ Hill tells NPR about her possible return. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lauryn Hill Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/ Getty Images Lauryn Hill made a huge impact on the music scene when she broke out from the Fugees and went solo with her acclaimed 1998 debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Already a bona fide star with the New Jersey hip-hop trio, the husky-voiced rapper and singer launched into the pop culture stratosphere with Miseducation, which soared to the top of the charts. The album went on to score a record-setting five Grammy Awards , and Hill became one of the biggest artists in the world. Then, she basically vanished. She released MTV Unplugged No. 2.0 in 2002 , and the music world waited for Fugees reunion that never fully materialized. Aside from popping up on an occasional festival date or worrying fans with an eccentric performance , Hill was largely gone from the spotlight. The singer recently opened up to NPR about why she stopped releasing music, blaming both personal issues and her feelings about the music industry. “There were things about myself, personal-growth things, that I had to go through in order to feel like it was worth it,” Hill told NPR News.

All Time Low Recall ‘Gagging’ During ‘Silent Library’ Stunt

Pop/punk band’s episode airs tonight at 5 p.m. ET on MTV. By Kyle Anderson, with reporting by Matt Harper All Time Low appear on “Silent Library” on June 29 Photo: MTV MTV’s “Silent Library” has made a name for itself by putting people (some famous, others not) in high-pressure (and usually extremely wacky) situations to test their ability to keep their reactions quiet. Such stunts include the “Milk Man” (which saw a male contestant try to survive an attack by a breast pump), “Not Happy Hour” (a game where five contestants have to consume a disgusting scorpion bowl in 30 seconds) and the surreal “Sad Bee” (wherein an old man wearing a bee costume shocks a contestant with a taser). Baltimore pop/punk band All Time Low are no strangers to wackiness, which is why they made for an excellent foil on the show; their episode airs Tuesday (June 29) at 5 p.m. ET on MTV. According to the band, the show is still up to its old tricks. “We all threw up, and it was awful,” All Time Low frontman Alex Gaskarth told MTV News during the penultimate stop on the Bamboozle Roadshow in Philadelphia. The group was subject to a stunt called “The Unexpected Mexican,” which saw bandmembers Gaskarth and Rian Dawson attempt to eat nachos with some rather eclectic toppings. “It was hot mustard, tartar sauce and wasabi paste,” Gaskarth said. “And it was just covered. None of those sauces are even good. I started gagging the first bite.” “I think they thought, ‘All Time Low is a bunch of jokesters, so we’ll give them everything that is sinful and wrong,’ ” Dawson said. “I threw up, and I was just watching them,” guitarist Jack Barakat added. All Time Low ended up on the show at least partially because of a Twitter campaign staged by their fans. “Apparently, our fans like to see us suffer,” Gaskarth joked. “But it was fun. We had a good time.” “Silent Library” is coming off its hottest season yet. The second batch of episodes featured stars like Justin Bieber, Jim Jones, Asher Roth, Aubrey O’Day and members of We the Kings and Forever the Sickest Kids. In addition to the members of All Time Low,the third season will feature guest appearances from members of bands like NeverShoutNever, Hey Monday, Honor Society and Anarbor. All Time Low’s episode of “Silent Library” airs Tuesday (June 29) at 5 p.m. ET on MTV. Related Videos Silent Library | Season 3 | Behind the Scenes with All Time Low Related Artists All Time Low

All Time Low, Third Eye Blind Frontmen Bond At Bamboozle

‘I was nervous when you guys first joined on,’ ATL’s Alex Gaskarth tells Stephan Jenkins. ‘I’m a fan.’ By Joel Hanek All Time Low’s Alex Gaskarth and Third Eye Blind’s Stephan Jenkins Photo: MTV News The eclectic traveling carnival that is the Bamboozle Roadshow came to an end over the weekend in Boston, but the “bro”-bonds that were formed on tour will go on. MTV News followed the action all week, catching up with all of the acts, from pop-punkers Boys Like Girls and Good Charlotte to electro-funksters LMFAO and 3OH!3. While the acts were diverse, one common theme among the musicians was their near-unanimous tendency to geek out over fellow headliners Third Eye Blind, with many calling the band one of the biggest influences on the current generation of rock groups. On the penultimate tour stop, at New York’s Nassau Coliseum, we caught up with All Time Low singer Alex Gaskarth and listened in on his talk with one of his musical idols, Third Eye Blind frontman Stephan Jenkins. It turns out the two were not only fans of one another, but also formed a newfound friendship. “A couple days [into the tour], I saw you guys play, and you guys are like this ongoing sea of energy,” Jenkins told Gaskarth. “That, and you guys have the best banter, because what you do every night it’s so changed up … it’s really authentic.” Gaskarth repaid the compliment, recounting how nearly every night on the Bamboozle fest, everyone met up by the stage to catch a glimpse of Third Eye Blind’s set . On a few dates, Gaskarth was even lucky enough to join the band onstage for a performance of their mega-hit “Jumper.” “I think that was the craziest thing about when you guys actually did join on the tour — one of the big things was we’re a different generation of bands — a lot of us were nervous,” Gaskarth admitted. “I can say I was nervous when you guys first joined on,” he added. “I’m a fan. It’s always like kicking down that wall of ‘do I approach?’ ” With the Roadshow over, both bands are keeping busy. Third Eye Blind plan to record a new album, while All Time Low will be on the road through 2010. Did you catch the Bamboozle Roadshow this year? Who was your favorite act on the lineup?
