Summa Cum LOUD-e: Black Woman Named Marijuana Pepsi Takes High Road Over Lifelong Haters, Earns PhD At 46

Black Woman Named Marijuana Pepsi Vandyck Earns PhD Yes, you read all of that correctly . According to the Journal Sentinel , a Black woman with an unusual name has overcome a lifetime of haters and downtalkers to earn her doctorate degree. 46-year-old Marijuana Pepsi Vandyck, DOCTOR Marijuana Pepsi Vandyck, graduated from Cardinal Stritch University in Wisconsin last month. She says she absolutely refused to change her given name in order to show people that you can overcome things that people say will hold you back. Teachers, classmates, bosses and even some friends refused to call her by her name and tried to opt-out for “Mary”. She wasn’t having it. Those criticisms even inspired Marijuana to title her dissertation: “Black names in white classrooms: Teacher behaviors and student perceptions.” Her mother, Maggie (Brandy) Johnson, who still lives in Beloit, picked out her name and proclaimed that it would take her around the world. Her sisters, one older and one younger, got relatively common names, Kimberly and Robin. When asked about her thoughts on the legalization of her namesake she says: “My main concern are the individuals serving time for marijuana-related offenses. I would like to see all their sentences overturned. These people were locked up for making money from the sale of marijuana, and now that the government has figured out ways to make the money themselves, it is ‘legal’ and, further, encouraged.” For the record, Marijuana says she’s never smoked and doesn’t drink Pepsi. “I feel great. I party with drunk people; you can’t tell us apart.” She also doesn’t drink Pepsi or other soda except for an occasional fruity soft drink in an ice cream float. God bless the good sis. Put some respect on her name, not a Swisher Sweet!

Big Boi & NFL Partner Up For $100K Donation To ATL’s MLK Center

Source: Icon Sportswire / Getty Super Bow LIII took place in the city of Atlanta and featured one of its most notable music acts in Big Boi in the halftime show alongside Maroon 5. The Outkast rapper and the NFL joined forces to donate to the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change in his hometown. TMZ Sports reports : The Outkast rapper — who performed with Adam Levine and co. during the Super Bowl LIII halftime show — will announce Thursday a joint donation of $100k from himself and the NFL. We’re told the money will be going to the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Big Boi’s hometown of Atlanta. Sources familiar with the deal tell TMZ … the joint donation is similar to the ones the league made with the other halftime performers in Atlanta. Maroon 5’s went to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and Travis’ went to Van Jones’ Dream Corps. Their donations were announced before the big game, but we’re told Big Boi always intended to make one too. He just took longer to announce it because he needed time to decide where the money would be put to the best use — and The King Center won out. Salute to Big Boi for this grand gesture! — Photo: Getty

Michael Jackson Musical CANCELED Amidst New Molestation Allegations!

Last month, a new Michael Jackson documentary entitled Leaving Neverland premiered at Sundance. The film captivated festival attendees, but it’s no lighthearted celebration of the King of Pop’s musical achievements. Instead, Neverland focuses on the many sexual assault allegations against Jackson. The film is set to air for a much larger audience on HBO in March, but those who have seen it already say it’s an appalling piece that brings to light new allegations, offers compelling evidence with regard to older claims, and leaves little doubt as to Jackson’s guilt. And while Jackson has yet to be re-tried in the court of public opinion, it seems the fallout has already begun for the disgraced music legend. It was announced today that a stage musical focusing on Jackson’s life and music has been postponed indefinitely. The show was scheduled to begin a run in Chicago next month before heading to Broadway. According to Radar Online, producers have told cast members and investors that they’re currently “waiting to see what happens” with regard to Jackson’s public image. However, insiders are already prepared for the possibility that the “entire thing could be scrapped.” Interestingly, Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough was initially set to compete with a different Jackson musical, scheduled to make its Broadway debut in 2020. That show was intended to have a much darker tone, addressing some of the many controversies that plagued Jackson’s life, up to and including the drug dependency that resulted in his death at age 50. However, Jackson’s family intervened and threatened to sue if those elements were not removed from the production. “The sexual abuse allegations, the plastic surgery story and even Michael’s addiction to drugs have all been cut out of the stage show,” a source tells Radar. The family attempted a similar strongarm approach to the makers of Leaving Neverland , but were rebuffed. The Jacksons have likened the film to a ” public lynching ,” but their attempts at halting its release have thus far been in vain. Sources say Michael’s mother and siblings are currently fighting to prevent the HBO release, but the odds are against him. It looks as though the horrific allegations against Jackson will soon once again be a matter of widespread public consternation and heated debate.  View Slideshow: Michael Jackson Accused of Grotesque Child Abuse in New Documentary

Fast forward to 2019 and Owens has been showered with employment opportunity and applause for the classy way that he handled his very public shaming. Last night Owens attended the SAG awards where he received more applause and ample opportunity to verbally extend his middle finger to those who thought him the butt of their jokes. Today, TMZ caught up with Owens to talk about what the moment meant to him and how his life has changed over the last four months. God bless Geoffrey Owens, but “unsweetened apple sauce”?
