George H.W. Bush Dies; Former President Was 94

George Herbert Walker Bush, the 41st president of the United States and the father of ex-Commander-in-Chief George W. Bush, died on Friday night. He was 94 years old. The sad news was confirmed yesterday by spokesperson Jim McGrath. “George Herbert Walker Bush, World War II naval aviator, Texas oil pioneer, and 41st President of the United States of America, died on November 30, 2018. “He was 94 and is survived by his five children and their spouses, 17 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two siblings,” the former president’s office said in a statement. Concluded this message: “He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Barbara; his second child Pauline “Robin” Bush; and his brothers Prescott and William or “Bucky” Bush.” Bush, a Republican who held the Oval Office for one term, was hospitalized back in April , just one day after laying his beloved wife to rest. He had contracted an infection at the time, but it’s too early right now to know the President’s cause of death. Son George W. spoke on behalf of his siblings with a statement of his own shortly after his father died on Friday.  It reads as follows: Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Doro, and I are saddened to announce that after 94 remarkable years, our dear Dad has died. George H. W. Bush was a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for. The entire Bush family is deeply grateful for 41’s life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens. Funeral details will be announced in the coming days, McGrath also noted. On Twitter, meanwhile, President Trump wrote the following: “President George H.W. Bush led a long, successful and beautiful life.  “Whenever I was with him I saw his absolute joy for life and true pride in his family. His accomplishments were great from beginning to end. “He was a truly wonderful man and will be missed by all!” He and wife Melania also released a lengthy statement that we have included below: Prior to his time as the most powerful man in the world, the Massachusetts native served as an aviator in the Navy and flew 58 combat missions during World War II. He was awarded three Air Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Bush then served as Vice President for eight years to Ronald Reagan. He was a congressman, ambassador to China and director of central intelligence, receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011. The former President’s death comes just eight months after his wife of 73 years, Barbara, died on April 17. Even after her passing, Bush remained devoted to his late wife, sitting beside her casket for hours in his wheelchair as mourners paid their respects while she lay in repose one day before her invitation-only funeral. The photos of his tribute made their way around the Internet at the time. Bush’s grandchildren affectionately nicknamed him “Gampy,” and Bush Hager has said on The Today Show that her grandfather “really is one of the most humble, wonderful men.” We send our condolences to his loved ones. May George H.W. Bush rest in peace. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2018: In Memoriam

Heather Lind: Actress Accuses George H.W. Bush of Sexual Assault

In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal involving accusations of sexual harassment, sexual assault , and a pervasive culture of silence, more and more women are stepping forward with stories that they’ve kept quiet for too long. Because public images don’t always match the real person behind the scenes, sometimes these accusations can come as quite a shock. Actress Heather Lind has come forward with her #MeToo story … and she’s accusing none other than former US President, George H.W. Bush. 41st President George H.W. Bush is mostly remembered for his one-term Presidency, for his Vice President’s spelling gaffe, and for his infamous “read my lips” line that, like so many political promises, was nothing but empty words. Oh, and for fathering George W. Bush, who would go on to be a President so infamous that it took the election of an orange menace to overshadow the possibly irreparable harm that he did to the US and its global image. These days, H.W. Bush is in a wheelchair, and time and contrast have softened his image considerably, so that even those who were once his fiercest political critics don’t have many issues with him anymore. But actress Heather Lind, known for her portrayal of Anna Strong in the AMC series, Turn: Washington’s Spies , has come forward with an accusation, sharing her lengthy #MeToo story on Instagram. And what she has to say is not political, but deeply personal. Her lengthy post begins: “I was disturbed today by a photo I saw of President Barack Obama shaking hands with George H. W. Bush in a gathering of ex-presidents organizing aid to states and territories damaged by recent hurricanes.” That, in and of itself, is not disturbing. It’s a great cause, actually. “I found it disturbing because I recognize the respect ex-presidents are given for having served. And I feel pride and reverence toward many of the men in the photo.” That’s more than a lot could say. (Personally, I could say that about one of them without reservation) “When I got the chance to meet George H. W. Bush four years ago to promote a historical television show I was working on, he sexually assaulted me while I was posing for a similar photo.” Oh gosh. We can see why the photo hit home for her. “He didn’t shake my hand. He touched me from behind from his wheelchair with his wife Barbara Bush by his side.” She’s not clear about how he allegedly touched her, and … it really shouldn’t matter whether he grabbed her butt or did something more invasive. Sexual assault is wrong. “He told me a dirty joke. And then, all the while being photographed, touched me again.” Awful. But politeness kept her from responding, it seems. She wasn’t, she says, the only one who noticed. “Barbara rolled her eyes as if to say ‘not again.'” Well, none of us can speak to what Barbara Bush was really thinking at the time. But if that really was her noticing and just feeling exhasperation instead of horror … that is alarming on a number of levels. “His security guard told me I shouldn’t have stood next to him for the photo. We were instructed to call him Mr. President.” One, that’s awful. Two, that makes us wonder if George H.W. Bush is experiencing some form of dementia that is eroding his impulse-control. Three, it would not be unheard of for wheelchair-bound old men to grope and harass pretty young women and get away with it just because they’re old and in wheelchairs. Especially when that man is powerful. Heather Lind reflects upon that terrible experience. “It seems to me a President’s power is in his or her capacity to enact positive change, actually help people, and serve as a symbol of our democracy.” True. There’s so much more to being President than being Commander in Chief. “He relinquished that power when he used it against me and, judging from the comments of those around him, countless other women before me. What comforts me is that I too can use my power, which isn’t so different from a President really.” That’s one way of looking at it. “I can enact positive change. I can actually help people. I can be a symbol of my democracy. I can refuse to call him President, and call out other abuses of power when I see them.” Those are good things to do, right? “I can vote for a President, in part, by the nature of his or her character, knowing that his or her political decisions must necessarily stem from that character.” We can all do that. “My fellow cast-mates and producers helped me that day and continue to support me.” It’s good that she has a support network. “I am grateful for the bravery of other women who have spoken up and written about their experiences.” Remember, folks — strength in numbers. Just like Evan Rachel Wood says . “And I thank President Barack Obama for the gesture of respect he made toward George H. W. Bush for the sake of our country, but I do not respect him. #metoo.” To be clear, that second “him” means George H.W. Bush. Pronouns can be kind of vague. That is heavy stuff. While Heather Lind’s story evoked an outpouring of support, it seems that some people bristled over a former President being accused. Because Heather Lind’s Instagram has been bombarded with hate. So much so that Heather has deleted the original post. Unfortunately, even pictures of her holding her baby are getting the nastiest messages in the comments that you can imagine. Sexual assault should not be a political issue, folks. There should not be two sides to this issue. Have we learned nothing from the #MeToo movement? Bruce Willis Promotes Red 2, Acts Like Total Dick

Bruce Willis is a fine actor and a great ex-husband. But he may be the world’s worst movie promoter. Conducting an interview this week with Magic 105.4 FM in London, the actor looked more disinterested than Chris Brown at a violence against women seminar, answering questions with one word and making it clear he’d rather be ANYwhere else. Willis is seated alongside Mary-Louise Parker for the Q&A, who recently said she may quit acting because people on the Internet are so mean. But perhaps she just wants to get as far away as possible from her Red 2 costar! Bruce Willis Sort of Promotes Red 2

Chris Brown Accuser Sues, Cities Alleged Nightclub Injuries

The girl who alleged that Chris Brown assaulted her at a club is suing him. Despite earlier claims that she’s not out for money … she totally is. Deanna Gines wants $25,000 minimum , she says in court papers. Gines’ story is suspect at best. She claims he shoved her to the ground last month at Heat Ultra Lounge in Orange County, causing knee ligament damage. Chris denied the claim, as did the club owner, and photos showed her walking around fine on the “injured” leg. She also said she wanted an apology – that’s it. So much for that. Now Deanna’s unabashedly suing Brown as well as the nightclub for battery, assault, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Makes Rihanna’s Instagram dig at him seem tame.

George H.W. Bush Shaves Head in Solidarity with Cancer-Stricken 2-Year Old

George H.W. Bush is sporting a new look. For a very noble cause. The former President of the United States have shaven his head to in solidarity with a two-year-old Patrick, the son of a member of Bush’s security detail who has been diagnosed with Leukemia. Bush’s spokesman Jim McGrath Tweeted the following picture of the ex-Commander-in-Chief, who joined with members of his Secret Service team in making the supportive gesture: The 88-year old is mostly confined to a wheelchair these days. He was placed in intensive care in December and there was fear he would not survive the ordeal.

George W. Bush Library Dedicated, Five Living U.S. Presidents Converge

In a rare event, all five living U.S. Presidents converged today for the official opening of George W. Bush’s presidential library in Dallas, Texas. Bush, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter were cheered by a crowd of former White House officials and world leaders. They were joined on stage by their wives – the nation’s current and former first ladies – for this outdoor ceremony on a sunny Texas morning. The leaders were putting aside the profound ideological differences that have divided them for years for a day of pomp and pleasantries for Bush, 66. As the George W. Bush Presidential Center opens, with it comes an unofficial return to the public eye for a man whose presidency was so polarizing. Presidential politics also hung over the event. Before the ceremony even began, former First Lady Barbara Bush made waves by brushing aside the building Jeb Bush 2016 presidential buzz. “We’ve had enough Bushes,” said Mrs. Bush, the spouse of George H.W. Bush and mother of George W. Bush, in an interview with NBC’s Today . Yet the man of the hour George W. Bush, openly talked up the presidential prospects of his brother in an interview that aired Wednesday on ABC: “He doesn’t need my counsel, because he knows what it is: ‘Run.'” What happens then is a topic for another day. This one was about George W. Bush’s presidency and the interactive exhibits housed to commemorate it. Major events such as 9/11, the financial bailout, the Iraq War and the international focus on HIV and AIDS, are all prominently displayed at the venue. Bush says he is comfortable with the decisions he made while in office and hopes history will be a fair judge. His successor will likely reflect similarly one day. For now, though, in a reminder of his duties as Oval Office inhabitant, President Obama is already off to honor members of the Texas fertilizer plant explosion .
