When The Fugees Checks Stop Coming In: Wyclef Jean’s Manager Says He’s Broke After Owing Millions In Debt

Lauryn Hill isn’t the only one with money problems … Wyclef Jean’s Business Manager Says He Is Broke Former Fugees member Wyclef Jean is reportedly broke, according his business manager. Via NewsOne reports: The Smoking Gun reports that the entertainer, who only a couple of years ago tried to run for the Haitian presidency, reportedly is in debt to Uncle Sam to the tune of $2.9 million in tax liens. Through a confidential agreement that was drawn up, the international 44-year-old Haitian ambassador reportedly said he would fork over $100,000 to entertainment law firm Shukat Arrow Hafer Weber & Herbsman to settle an outstanding bill of $133,000. Jean, according to The Smoking Gun, was requested to satisfy his outstanding debt with the law firm via two installments: $10,000 by last August 1 and another $50,000 by the end of last year. According to the alleged agreement, if Jean made the two payments totaling $60,000, the law firm would waive $40,000. If the entertainer, however, failed to make good on the agreement, an additional ten percent annual interest would also get tacked on to the $100,000. Jean did not make any payments to the firm, according to The Smoking Gun. His accountant, David Levin, reportedly sent out an email in January to the celeb’s creditors stating, “in my most professional verbiage…there ain’t no money.” The email was sent out in response to the law firm’s threats of impending court action against Jean. Levin reportedly told the legal eagles to go ahead and “file it” and they did. Now, Jean reportedly owes the firm $102,027.40. He has had other money woes in the past as well. Following the Haitian earthquake, Jean was questioned about the handling of the finances of his now defunct charitable organization, Yele Haiti. The non-profit foundation collected over $16 million in donations following the series of earthquakes that decimated the island’s capital city, Port-Au-Prince. When your lawyer says “there ain’t no money left” we have wonder what law school he went to. Can’t wait to hear where his accountant went to college. Poor thang! Continue reading

ChitChatter: Garcelle Beauvais Talks About Dating Black Men Again After Her Swirly Matrimony-dom Went South

Garcelle opens up about relationships, her dirty dog ex-hubby and if she’ll ever go back to black men again . We’re big fans of Garcelle Beauvais , not just for her onscreen work, but also for the way she reamed her dirty dog hubby in an email to his colleagues. After her divorce from the trifilin’ ex , the Haitian hottie sat down to talk about her love-life now and getting back to her roots when it comes to men… Some people are wondering…would Garcelle date a Haitian man? Um. [Tremendous laughter] I am open to dating a good man, so whatever forms he comes in, then great. I would have to date a Haitian man who’s more Americanized. A traditional Haitian man would probably not go for the way my life is…in terms of what I do. I’m only speaking of that in terms of my sisters’ husbands. I’m open to all nationalities. It would actually be fun to date somebody Haitian. We can speak in Creole. He’d understand my background and culture. Yeah, I’m totally open. You never had a Haitian boyfriend or anything like that? I did, I did; I did. Back in the days when I was younger, I did. You said you had a Haitian boyfriend before. Was it something about them that turned you off to marriage? No, no. I never dated—I was so young then. It wasn’t about getting married. We were just dating. I haven’t yet met a Haitian man who’s asked asked me out. [Laughter] God, I hope this doesn’t come out wrong. Has the fact that you’ve dated two men who were outside your culture and “race”, made you more open to dating a black man? I’ve always been open to dating black men. Oliver’s dad is black. I’m not opposed to it. It’s that the right people have to approach me. I love who loves me; I love who comes to me. I’m accessible to everybody. I’m receptive to everybody. I can’t just go out and look for only one type of man. Life is tough enough. I love who loves me; who approaches me. Garcelle Beauvais is beautiful, single and ready to mingle. We’re glad to hear Garcelle is back in a good space. Guess that “Something New” ain’t always what it’s cracked up to be. Source

In White Folks With Black Kids News: Jillian Michaels Totes Lil Lukensia Around Town And Talks About Why Her Baby Girl Is So Shy

Jillian Michaels was spotted carrying her lil girl Lukensia around Malibu after making a Starbucks run. The fitness guru recently talked to US Weekly about how her little girl is so shy after being confined mostly to an orphanage for the early part of her life: “I’ve been to Haiti on and off since I was 27. I met her a year ago on a trip visiting orphanages for All Blessings International, an organization I work with,” Michaels, 38, tells Ladies’ Home Journal’s July issue. “I was visiting this one orphanage and the next thing I knew she jumped into my arms. She just grabbed me and clung to me and I immediately felt something. I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is my daughter.’ “ But adopting Lukensia was not an easy process. The baby girl had already been placed with a family in Germany, but it didn’t work out. “I do think there’s a certain amount of fate involved,” the former Biggest Loser trainer explains. “Life has a way of working out the way it’s meant to.” Now, Michaels and her partner, Heidi Roades, 31, are the proud parents Lukensia and son, Phoenix, who was born on May 3. And their children have two very different personalities. “He is the calm one. Patient. She is a firebrand,” Michaels shares. “Actually, she’s incredibly shy. She’s clever and adventurous, but it’s kind of heartbreaking because you have to understand she has been here since she was 9 or 10 months old. She’s now 2 and the only time she left the orphanage [prior to the adoption] was when I would take her to the Haitian guesthouse where I stayed nearby.” We’re happy Lukensia is in a good home now, but it seems like we either read a new article or see photos of Jillian every other day now. Is she trying to promote adoption — or something else? GSIMedia

Kim Kardashian on Haiti Trip: NOT About Me!

Kim Kardashian is denying a series of celebrity gossip reports that she attended a fashion show and spent a fortune on herself during her recent visit to Haiti . The star took to her blog to shoot down “malicious” rumors about her trip to the Caribbean country, which was hit by a earthquake in 2010, with her mom. She and Kris Jenner traveled there for positive PR to learn more about the charity We Advance, not for a fashion show, which has been rumored this week. “Our mission was to learn more about [Maria Bello’s] charity, We Advance,” she says , “and meet the Haitian people who have made such amazing progress since the devastating earthquake in 2010, and celebrate the women of Haiti.” Kim says they “inspired me more than I ever could have anticipated.” When Kardashian returned, she says she saw “malicious” reports that say she “spent a fortune” on herself in Haiti … and was, like, so offended, because how could ANYONE possibly think Kim would put herself first in any situation? “While my experience was completely life-changing … a very emotional and surprisingly positive journey I will never forget, some have tried to tarnish the motive behind my visit by writing completely ridiculous and untrue things,” Kim Kardashian laments. The fortune she supposedly spent? She says this: “The truth is that I was at the Haitian Artisan Fair, where the amazing men and women who make their jewelry and crafts sell them to visitors to make a living, and I bought some beautiful jewelry!” In the end, she said, she had a positive experience trying to give back. “I have some really great stories and photos from my trip and I’m so excited to share them with you all,” she wrote … and we’re sure she will share them, early and often, in between plugs for various products. Just kidding. Probably.
