Jesus Take The Wheel: Woman Had Arm Amputated Because Police Handcuffs Were Too Tight

This takes police brutality to a whole new level. Woman Had Arm Amputated Because Handcuffs Were Too Tight When someone loses an arm, it’s time for somebody’s azz to get fired. According to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: A Ross woman sued Allegheny County today, claiming that sheriff’s deputies injured her arm and the jail’s former medical provider ignored her complaints, resulting in amputation. Amy J. Needham, 35, of Ross, was arrested by county sheriffs on April 2, according to the complaint. Her attorney, Marvin Leibowitz, said she was the subject of a warrant because she missed a preliminary hearing on a charge that was ultimately reduced to a disorderly conduct. When sheriff’s office employees arrived, Ms. Needham said she was using the bathroom, but they broke down the bathroom door, according to the complaint. They shocked her with a Taser, applied arm bars and wrist locks, and put on handcuffs “that were too tight,” the complaint said. That treatment, according to the complaint, caused “compartment syndrome,” which is increased pressure in a muscle compartment that can damage both muscles and nerves. Over the course of around a week in jail, according to Mr. Leibowitz, Ms. Needham made 16 requests to see a doctor, but was denied. She was finally hospitalized at UPMC Mercy where her arm was amputated above the elbow, according to the complaint. “She feels that her life is ruined,” said Mr. Leibowitz, adding that his client is a mother of three children, ages 5 to 9, and previously worked at a restaurant. “I think she’s having psychological problems. You’re 35 years old and you lose your arm.” Mr. Leibowitz said Ms. Needham is off of work awaiting a prosthesis. They have sued Sheriff William Mullen, sheriff’s Lieut. John Kearney, sheriff’s Detective Jared Kulik, Allegheny County, and Allegheny Correctional Health Services, which ran the jail infirmary through August. The complaint alleges excessive force, cruel and unusual punishment, battery and negligence, and demands more than $75,000 in damages. A county spokeswoman declined to comment, citing a general policy against talking about litigation. Sheriff Mullen could not be immediately reached for comment. Dayum. Shutterstock

What Were You Thinking?? Slizzard Fool Shows Up To Court For DUI Charge While Drunk And Passes Out In The Parking Lot!

Perhaps the folks in this guy’s family need to hit up A&E’s Intervention: A Norfolk man turned up drunk for his sentencing in Madison County district court here, registering a blood-alcohol content of four times the legal limit. Daniel E. Harris, 46, was wheeled into the courtroom in a special chair with soft restraints around his hands and feet that resembled seatbelts. He was unconscious but breathing at that time. Kube said Harris had slipped and fallen in the courthouse parking lot. The Madison County sheriff’s office was able to administer a preliminary breath test before he passed out. The breathalyzer level indicated was .323. Legal intoxication is .08. Madison County sheriff’s office deputies were monitoring Harris closely during the short time he was in the courtroom. Judge James Kube ordered Harris be transported by ambulance to Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk so he could be medically evaluated. A Madison County sheriff’s office deputy was to escort him there. In the event that Harris wasn’t taken into emergency protective custody, his bond was revoked and he would then be detained at the Madison County jail. Kube ordered Harris’ sentencing on his conviction of driving under the influence of alcohol (.15 grams or more)-third offense be continued until Monday. In that case, officers had pulled him over for a stop sign violation and noticed Harris’ slurred speech and hazy eyes. According to the police report, Harris was having a tough time standing up and walking. His blood-alcohol content tested at that time reached .315. Sounds like this guy needs to be taken to rehab PRONTO!!! SMH. Source

Wikileaks: Cuban spies have "direct access" to President Hugo Chavez

Then-US Ambassador William Brownfield wrote that Cuban spies had “direct access” to President Hugo Chavez. Another cable sent in 2010 said Cuban agents controlled spying operations against the US embassy in Caracas. The left-wing governments of Cuba and Venezuela are close allies and outspoken opponents of the US. The secret diplomatic cables released by Wikileaks were published by the Spanish newspaper, El Pais. Similar allegations of Cuban intelligence influence in Venezuela have been made by Venezuelan opposition groups, but US officials have not publicly expressed such concerns. The leaked cable from Ambassador Brownfield says the ties between Cuban and Venezuelan intelligence are so close that the two countries agencies “appear to be competing with each other for the Venezuelan government's attention”. Indoctrination The ambassador wrote that Cuban spies were so close to President Chavez that they provided him with intelligence unvetted by Venezuelan officers. “Cuban agents train Venezuelans on both Cuba and Venezuela, providing both political indoctrination and operational instruction”. The ambassador concludes that the Cuban involvement could impact US interests directly. “Venezuelan intelligence services are among the most hostile towards the United States in the hemisphere, but they lack the expertise that Cuban services can provide”. The level of Cuban involvement in other agencies of the Venezuelan government was harder to confirm, he wrote. The embassy “had received no credible reports of extensive Cuban involvement in the Venezuelan military”, but there were reports that Cubans were training Mr Chavez's bodyguard. But Cubans were likely to be involved “to a great extent” in agricultural policy, as well as in an identity card scheme. The ambassador added that it was impossible to tell how many Cubans were working in Venezuela. Cuba's biggest and most public involvement in Venezuela is in the provision of tens of thousands of doctors and nurses who provide basic health services in poor areas. In return, Venezuela provides Cuba with subsidized oil. added by: UrbanGypsy
