Jem and the Holograms is hitting the silver screen, and the trailer has arrived. No, really. Hold it. Things aren’t looking good. Jem and the Holograms Trailer With the release of the trailer yesterday though, there has been a backlash from 30-something-year-old fans of the original cartoon. The live-action movie appears to be a loose interpretation of the story, reinventing Jem as a YouTube sensation. Whaaat? This isn’t Justin freaking Bieber! Only hours after the trailer premiered, viewers picked apart the inconsistencies between the original cartoon Jem and the Jem played by Aubrey Peeples. Jem and the Holograms was a mega-popular cartoon, so one would imagine there would be a lot of positive attention surrounding the upcoming film. But the YouTube video of the preview has five times as many down votes as up votes. As of this morning, all of the top comments were negative critiques about the upcoming adaptation. Jeremy Renner’s rogue agent is introduced in badass ‘Bourne’ fashion. By Kevin P. Sullivan Jeremy Renner in the “Bourne Legacy” trailer Photo: Universal Pictures Jeremy Renner makes his big debut as the latest agent gone rogue in “The Bourne Legacy.” Picking up where Matt Damon left off, Renner plays Aaron Cross, an apparent improvement over Jason Bourne. You’ll have to head over to Apple to check out the brand-new trailer, but we have the five key scenes you need to play attention to: Background The trailer immediately sets the mood with a little help from the opening credits of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho.” The bars sliding across the screen directly borrow from the horror classic and make things creepy quickly. Jeremy Renner’s character gives the name “Kenneth,” despite being listed in the credits as Aaron Cross. At the beginning of the trailer, Kenneth/Aaron does not look well. His left eye sags, and the right side of his face is speckled with blood. Immediately, we’re questioning who he is and what he’s been through, a good thing when introducing a new character to the series. ‘Well, That Has Healed Well’ If Aaron is “Treadstone without the inconsistencies,” that may imply he is, in fact, stronger than Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne. The physician looking at Aaron’s hand in the trailer remarks that it had healed well, as if it’s something remarkable. Does the removal of those Treadstone inconsistencies include a rapid healing ability? Introducing Edward Norton Norton joins the cast as the newest villain in the series, and he makes for a welcome addition. In the trailer, we’re introduced to his character, Byer, who tests Aaron to see if he’s completely committed to the program, known as “Outcome.” Norton leaves little doubt that he’s going to make for a worthy opponent in a series known for its intelligent bad guys. Reintroducing Albert Finney The introduction of a new main character does not preclude the appearance of some familiar faces. Both Finney and Joan Allen reprise their roles, as Dr. Hirsch and Pamela Landy, respectively. They will be the main through lines to the original trilogy and should help make a little more sense of the new direction for the series. The Fire Extinguisher Though it may not ultimately mean that much for the story, a move as inventive as sticking a nail into the end of the fire extinguisher has to be acknowledged. “The Bourne Legacy” hits theaters August 3. After an investigation that’s spanned several months, the Oksana Grigorieva extortion case is now in the hands of the L.A. County District Attorney. The case file went to the D.A.’s office at noon today. Some sources say a charge is unlikely , given the inconsistencies in her story and the obvious credibility problems she has amassed over half a year. The D.A. will soon decide if Oksana will be charged with extortion. It boils down to a $15 million deal Oksana signed, and then walked away from, during child custody mediation sessions with Gibson in May, 2010. The deal included child support, a house, and other assets … plus the guarantee that Oksana would NOT leak the now-infamous Mel Gibson tapes . The D.A. has also yet to decide whether to charge Mel Gibson with domestic abuse, which Oksana alleges and the actor has vehemently denied.
Dr. Conrad Murray must feel pretty good about his defense strategy of blaming the victim , because dude is not interested in any plea bargain, thankyouverymuch . Michael Jackson’s embattled personal physician, who faces involuntary manslaughter charges stemming from the icon’s death last June, is not looking for a deal. Sources say Dr. Murray is adamant that he did nothing wrong and that Michael Jackson killed himself . Thus, he will not plead to manslaughter or a lesser offense. The doc’s defense team plans to contend that Jackson did himself in by self-injecting a fatal dose of Propofol into his bloodstream while Murray had left the room. Will Dr. Conrad Murray beat the rap? Murray, insiders report, is ” completely confident ” that he will be found not guilty on all charges, despite the inconsistencies in his story and rumors of a cover-up. He is less certain that medical boards in Texas, Nevada and California will reach a similar result, though a judge did not pull his California medical license Monday. Murray intends to fight to keep practicing, as he needs the cash money to pay for his defense and child support, but realizes the medical boards will go after him. Also going after him with a wrongful death lawsuit? Joe Jackson . But Conrad shouldn’t take that personally, since that guy will sue anything that comes along.
