Even in the Year 1076 Muslims Couldn’t Get Along with Their Neighbors

The First Crusade played a very important part in Medieval England. The First Crusade was an attempt to re-capture Jerusalem. After the capture of Jerusalem by the Muslims in 1076, any Christian who wanted to pay a pilgrimage to the city faced a very hard time. Muslim soldiers made life very difficult for the Christians and trying to get to Jerusalem was filled with danger for a Christian. This greatly angered all Christians. One Christian – called Alexius I of Constantinople – feared that his country might also fall to the Muslims as it was very close to the territory captured by the Muslims. Constantinople is in modern day Turkey. Alexius called on the pope – Urban II – to give him help. In 1095, Urban spoke to a great crown at Clermont in France. He called for a war against the Muslims so that Jerusalem was regained for the Christian faith. In his speech he said: “Christians, hasten to help your brothers in the East, for they are being attacked. Arm for the rescue of Jerusalem under your captain Christ. Wear his cross as your badge. If you are killed your sins will be pardoned.” Those who volunteered to go to fight the Muslims cut out red crosses and sewed them on their tunics. The French word “croix” means cross and the word changed to “croisades” or crusades. The fight against the Muslims became a Holy War. Many people did volunteer to fight on the First Crusade. There were true Christians who wanted to reclaim Jerusalem for their belief and get the Muslims out of the city. There were those who knew they had committed sin and that by going on the Crusade they might be forgiven by God. They had also been told by the pope that if they were killed, they would automatically go to heaven as they were fighting for God. There were those who thought that they might get rich by taking the wealth that they thought existed in Jerusalem. Any crusader could claim to be going on a pilgrimage for God – pilgrims did not have to pay tax and they were protected by the Church. http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/cru2.htm added by: congoboy

Oldest Written Document Ever Found in Jerusalem Discovered

A tiny clay fragment — dating from the 14th century B.C.E. — that was found in excavations outside Jerusalem's Old City walls contains the oldest written document ever found in Jerusalem, say researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The find, believed to be part of a tablet from a royal archives, further testifies to the importance of Jerusalem as a major city in the Late Bronze Age, long before its conquest by King David, they say. link: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/07/100712102816.htm added by: Maryleaf

Theres A New Community Organizer In Town!

First of all I would like to thank The Fully Informed Jury Association for choosing me for the position of Community Organizer, Campaign Leader in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Advocating freedom is a great passion of mine and we can only do this through educating individuals freely, and that is why I accepted this position. For those of you that do not know me, I support the rights of the Individual, and that each individual owns their own life. To deny this right is to imply that another person has a higher claim on your life than you have. No other person, or group of persons, owns your life nor do you own the lives of others. It is my mission to try and make sure that every individual in Fort Lauderdale is armed with the information, and educational resources needed to be a Fully Informed Juror. When you sit on a jury in a criminal trial, you have the right to vote according to your conscience, no matter what the judge says about the law. As a juror, you are the final safeguard for justice. My tasks will also include setting up community and college groups, holding meetings and will consi added by: shanklinmike

Israeli commandos ready to board the Rachel Corrie

The same commandos who launched a nighttime assault on aid ships bound for Gaza will also try and stop the Irish aid ship Rachel Corrie. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made clear late Thursday that the ship will not be allowed into Gaza but will be boarded and brought to an Israeli port. Israeli navy sources told the Jerusalem Post that the operation would be carried out by commandos from Flotilla 13 –several of whom took part in their earlier engagement at sea that left nine aid workers dead, including one American citizen, who was shot four times in the head. The plan is to board the Rachel Corrie, the newspaper says. The Israelis have asked that Rachel Corrie would voluntarily sail to Ashdod Port rather than be boarded.
There have been discussions this week between Israel and the Irish government about the Ashdod plan. However, speaking to The Irish Times from the Rachel Corrie yesterday, former UN official Denis Halliday strongly denied reports that the ship had turned back or that it would go to another port. He said they hoped to make Gaza by the weekend. “If we are not boarded beforehand, we hope to be in Gaza by Saturday,” Halliday said. “We cannot accept an offer of an escort to another port which could jeopardize safe delivery of our cargo of construction and educational materials and medical supplies. “We fear that any such escort could mean that our 550 tons of cement on board and our educational material would be confiscated by the Israelis, given that they do not define this as humanitarian goods – in breach of the UN definition of same,” he said. The Israeli Navy and members of the Free Gaza flotilla differ on where the ship is at this time. Israeli navy says its arrival is imminent. However, a major cat and mouse game is underway to ascertain when the Rachel Corrie, which was fitted out in Dundalk in Ireland, reaches Gaza. Irish Nobel Peace Prize winner Mairead Corrigan Maguire is on board as well as several other Irish nationals. The Rachel Corrie is described as “rather decrepit, shallow-hulled trading vessel meant for trade between locations on the same continent or island,” and not ideal for the trip to Gaza from Ireland. Earlier reports stated that Israeli intelligence sabotaged the ship when it was at anchor in Cyprus. The ship was delayed there and did not arrive with the rest of the flotilla. added by: crystalman

Noam Chomsky denied entry into Israel: report

Famed academic and political dissident Noam Chomsky was detained for three hours by Israeli border guards before being denied entry into the country on Sunday, Israeli news sources report. Chomsky, who is of Jewish extraction and has long been a fierce critic of Israel, told a TV station in Israel that a border guard said Chomsky had “written things that the Israeli government didn't like.” “I suggested [the interrogator try to] find any government in the world that likes anything I say,” Chomsky said, as quoted at Ha'aretz. According to the Jerusalem Post, “some sources say [Chomsky] was told unofficially there was an order from on high to turn him back because of his political views.” Chomsky, a renowned linguistics expert who teaches at MIT, has been an outspoken critic of Israeli foreign policy and US policy towards Israel for years. In 2006, during the Israel-Lebanon war, Chomsky called Israel's bombing of Beirut “a serious breach of international law” for which “there is no legal justification.” In March of this year, in front of a crowd at Boston University, Chomsky denounced the “slaughter” of Palestinians by Israeli forces and denounced Israel’s “escalating policy of apartheid” towards Palestinians. According to Ha'aretz, Chomsky was scheduled to give a speech at Bir Zeit University near Jerusalem. Chomsky arrived at a border crossing between Jordan and Israel at around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. He was taken for questioning, turned back from Israel and released at around 4:30 p.m. local time. Palestinian lawmaker Moustafa Barghouti, a moderate who was scheduled to tour the territories with Chomsky, denounced Chomsky's exclusion, Ynet News reported. Chomsky has long labeled himself as a “libertarian socialist” or “anarcho-syndicalist,” a form of anarchism. In academic circles, he is widely considered one of the founding father of modern linguistics. His political books, including Manufacturing Consent and Necessary Illusions, have been slammed by critics as being “subversive” and hailed by supporters as important works deconstructing the political structure of American society. added by: treewolf39

Scary Crucifixion Rituals Around the World [Easter]

Easter is the best holiday for sadists, as Catholics worldwide bloody themselves imitating the passion of Christ, just like Mel Gibon’s torture porno with that name. It’s also rural Filipinos’ annual season of infamy, for literally nailing themselves to crosses. More

Are Israel and the US about to break up?

News about Israel today is dominated by headlines pointing to the “greatest rift in decades”. I find it hard to believe that one of America's most special relationships is really in existential peril…but things don't look great between the two nations. Last week, as Biden was in Israel discouraging settlement building, the government announced 1600 new settlements in East Jerusalem. The Obama Adminstration is more than a little miffed. And though Netanyahu's government has apologized for the *timing* of the announcement, they don't seem near to reversing the decision. From Voice of America: “The Israeli leader said Israel has been building in mostly Arab East Jerusalem for the past 40 years and no Israeli leader during that time has stopped it. Mr. Netanyahu said building Jewish neighborhoods on the land, in his words, in no way has hurt the Arabs of East Jerusalem, and he said the construction did not come at their expense.” (Link: http://www1.voanews.com/english/news/middle-east/Israel-Tries-to-Defuse-Crisis-w… ) So what happens if nobody gives? Is Israel really in a position to distance itself from the US? Is the Obama Administration really in a position to risk its closest ally in the Middle East? Or is this a bunch of hullabaloo over nothing? added by: afitzgerald

Israel to build more homes in East Jerusalem, amidst Biden visit
