WATCH: Monsters Inc. 3D Trailer Recalls A Time When It Wasn’t So Easy To Laugh

I’ll leave the jokes about how Monsters, Inc 3D has a new eye-popping look to Billy Crystal and, instead, ask if you remember where your head was at in November 2001 when this Pixar classic was released. If you lived in New York City and had a young child (as I did), you were probably extremely grateful  for  Monsters, Inc. because, even if your kid was too young to grasp what had happened at Ground Zero, you were not. Sitting in the cool dark of a movie theater  with my four-year-old and watching this funny film was a brief, welcome respite from the daily barrage of news reports about terrorists at our border, toxins in the air and the heavy layer of grief that blanketed the city. Monsters, Inc. made my kid laugh, and that made me laugh. And exhale. Monsters, Inc. 3D will be re-released on December 19. Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. Follow Movieline on Twitter.

Watch: Monsters University Parties in the Dorms

Are there monsters in your closet? That is the question posed in this teaser trailer for Disney/Pixar’s Monsters University . But that is probably the most chilling thing here and perhaps in the movie itself. For these critters are headed for college (though that is certainly a scary and exciting prospect for anyone). Starring Steve Buscemi, John Goodman, Kelsey Grammar and Billy Crystal along with a host of others, the animated adventure-comedy revolves around Mike and Sulley during their enrollment at the “University of Fear.” The snippet, just over a minute long, includes a great little party scene in what appears to be a dorm – and its aftermath, which most university students can – uh – imagine. The pic, which is prequel to Monsters is slated for next Summer, but get a jump on it here.

Red Dawn Remake Finally Sets Release Date

That poor Red Dawn remake just has not been able to catch a break, what with the MGM bankruptcy that stalled its initial release, the hubbub over digitally changing its baddies from Chinese to North Koreans, and the uncertainty in the air as it sat, waiting, for a new slot on the release calendar. But! It’s finally set to see the light of day November 2, 2012 — nearly three years after it was filmed — giving stars Josh Hutcherson , Chris Hemsworth , Isabel Lucas , and Adrienne Palicki more time to get even famous-er. [ Coming Soon ]

REVIEW: The Artist’s Greatness Speaks Louder Than Words

We rarely think of as great movies as breezy ones: Breeziness is supposedly only for disposable entertainment, though achieving filmmaking greatness in the way we normally think of it — with impressive sets, heavy-duty acting and ultra-polished cinematography — is probably easier than brushing a movie with just the right amount of gold dust. Michel Hazanavicius’s The Artist is a gold dust movie, a picture whose very boldness lies in its perceived lightness. This is a silent movie in black-and-white, and if it were only that, it would be a pleasant novelty. But The Artist isn’t a nostalgia trip, nor is it a scolding admonishment to honor the past. Instead, it’s a picture that romances its audience into watching in a new way — by, paradoxically, asking us to watch in an old way. The Artist is perhaps the most modern movie imaginable right now.

Silent is Golden: A Chat With The Artist’s Leading Man (and Oscar Frontrunner) Jean Dujardin

A little over six months ago, before The Artist premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, it might have been unthinkable to foresee what has since evolved into a very real possibility: Jean Dujardin, a bona fide movie star in his native France but relative unknown in the United States, is as likely as any contender to date to win an Academy Award for Best Actor. Which would be surprising enough without The Artist being a black-and-white French import — a silent black-and-white French import.

5 Coen Brothers Stock Players Who Haven’t Appeared In a Michael Bay Film, But Should

When you see Transformers: Dark of the Moon this week — and you will, preferably on the biggest screen possible , if Michael Bay has any say — you might notice something a bit strange. Nope, not how Dark of the Moon manages to work in multiple shots at the departed Megan Fox ; rather, how Bay staffed his new film with a cavalcade of actors recognizable to fans of the Coen brothers. Frances McDormand, John Turturro and John Malkovich, all co-star in Dark of the Moon , and continues the strange bit of pop culture cross-pollination between Bay and the Coens that started with the casting of Fargo co-stars Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare in Armageddon . In honor of this randomness, here are five other Coen brothers players who should appear in a Michael Bay film.

VIDEO: John Goodman and Steve Buscemi Stage Unofficial Big Lebowski Reunion for DirecTV

If you spent your Father’s Day watching baseball coverage on TBS — in New York, it was the Boston Red Sox annihilation of the Milwaukee Brewers — the chances are good that you saw the DirecTV claymation commercial for the controversial new service Home Premiere featuring an arguing chicken and egg. And if that commercial made you want to watch The Big Lebowski , it’s with good reason: the chicken and egg are voiced by John Goodman and Steve Buscemi, respectively.
