For Discussion: Fox News Commentator Says Women Making More Money Than Men Is “Hurting Our Children” ….Is He Right?

Fox News Commentator Says Women Making More Money Than Men Hurts Our Children Earlier this week, a report came out confirming that women are the breadwinners in many U.S. households today . Naturally, the conservative base wasn’t too pleased with this news, and now one of their own are speaking out against the notion that it’s acceptable for mothers to have careers and earn just as much money as their men, if not more. via Think Progress Conservative commentator Erick Erickson earned himself a lot of detractors Wednesday night when, responding to the news that a record number of families rely on women’s income, he argued on Fox News that it was “natural” for men to take the “dominant role” and that women being the primary breadwinner for families is “hurting our children, and it’s going to have impact for generations to come.” But Erickson stood by his comments on Thursday, first tweeting, “Husbands and wives should play complimentary roles w/ dad as breadwinner,” and then penning a longer piece on the site he edits, Red State, making the case for why women shouldn’t be the primary earner in a household. “In modern society we are not supposed to say such things about child rearing and families. In modern society we are not supposed to point out that children in a two-parent heterosexual nuclear household have a better chance at long term success in life than others. In modern society, we are supposed to applaud feminists who teach women they can have it all — that there is no gender identifying role and women can fulfill the role of husbands and fathers just as men do. Feminists and politicians on both sides of the aisle view these statements as insulting to single moms and antithetical to their support for gay marriage. What should be insulting to single moms is for society to tell them they can do it all and, in fact, will subsidize their doing it all. I know a number of wonderful, nurturing single mothers. They do as best they can. Most of them have wonderful children. But not one of them prefers to be a single mother.“ What do you think, Bossip fam? Do women who choose to balance a work and home life deprive the children? Or are they setting a positive example for their children in showing the strength of mothers and women in general? Happy 66th Birthday, Bill Clinton!

The 42nd President of the United States, Bill Clinton, celebrates his birthday today. The Big Dawg is now 66 years young. Happy birthday, Bubba! William Jefferson Clinton, the pride of Hope, Ark., remains the only Democrat to win two full White House terms since Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Clinton presided over the largest peacetime economic expansion in U.S. history, and left office extremely popular, despite the whole impeachment thing. Hey, no one’s perfect, right? His wife, Hillary Clinton, is currently U.S. Secretary of State, and their daughter, Chelsea, says she’s considering running for office too someday. Whatever she does, she’ll make mom and dad proud. These days, Bill runs the extremely influential Clinton Global Initiative and remains a leading voice for progressive economic and social policies. Expect to see him featured prominently at the Democratic National Convention in a few weeks, making the case for President Obama’s reelection. Here’s wishing Clinton – who reportedly went vegan after his bypass surgery – a very happy 66th. A veggie burger to celebrate, perhaps?

‘Bully’ Will Be Released Unrated

Weinstein Co. is releasing the documentary on bullying unrated in a protest against an R. By Gil Kaufman A Scene from “Bully” Actors, singers, politicians, educators and high school kids have been protesting the R rating given to the anti-bullying documentary “Bully, but the ratings board would not budge. So, instead of folding, frequently outspoken Weinstein Co. co-founder Harvey Weinstein has decided to release the film unrated. “The small amount of language in the film that’s responsible for the R rating is there because it’s real,” director Lee Hirsch said of the multiple f-bombs that landed the film its restricted rating, according to The Hollywood Reporter . “It’s what the children who are victims of bullying face on most days. All of our supporters see that, and we’re grateful for the support we’ve received across the board. I know the kids will come, so it’s up to the theaters to let them in.” The film depicts the painful results of school bullying and follows several families who’ve been impacted by bullying. But because it was given an R rating, it cannot be screened in middle and high schools. Weinstein began a public appeal of the rating last month, making the case that it would freeze out the very teens and others under 18 who most need to hear its powerful message. The rating war inspired 17-year-old Katy Butler to start a viral petition to get the decision changed. Not only did her movement win her a GLAAD Media Awards
over the weekend, but it also drew nearly
