Carmelo Anthony Says He Couldn’t Do Anything Without Education

‘I had to take care of school, and then everything else just fell in place,’ NBA phenom reminds kids at Get Schooled event. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Jeff Schneider Carmelo Anthony Photo: MTV News Carmelo Anthony’s mesmerizing moves on the court wouldn’t be possible without one key factor — and it’s not just putting in extra work at practice. “Without education, I couldn’t really do nothing,” Anthony told MTV News at a Get Schooled event at Denver’s George Washington High School, which was also attended by Ludacris, indie MC Saigon and ‘Melo’s wife La La Vazquez. “Without my grades, I couldn’t really play ball, I couldn’t really hang out. I had to take care of school, and then everything else just fell in place.” The Denver Nuggets forward insisted that anybody who wants to score success should use a strong educational background as their jumping-off point. “Education should be first in everybody’s agenda. I think high school and just education gets you prepared for the real world,” ‘Melo maintained. As challenging as homework may be, the megastar baller said making a mark outside of the classroom is a lot harder. “All the subjects that you think is hard right now in high school, trust me, it gets harder out there in the real world,” he explained. “So this is where it starts, this is the stepping-stone.” Anthony said he enjoyed his face time with the high-schoolers at the event and dreamed big about taking the project to the next level. “I think Get Schooled probably, for me, is one of the best programs that I’ve been involved in — and I’m not just saying that because I’m on here,” Anthony said. “Just for the simple fact that we get a chance to hear from young kids what’s going on in their mind and their life and what can they do to better their education. “I wish that we could just do it on a much bigger scale. Hopefully we can just grow the tour to 20 cities next time,” he continued. “And not just have us come out there and talk, but actually showing the statistics and the videos, just everything that goes along with it.” Stay tuned to MTV News for more information about how you can get the president to speak at your commencement celebration at the end of this school year. Get Schooled is a national program aimed at increasing high school and college graduation rates and promoting the importance of education, developed by Viacom in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Pusha T Says Cryptic ‘So Appalled’ Verse Is ‘Self-Explanatory’

Clipse MC opens up about apparent reference to incarcerated ex-manager on Kanye West track, on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Alvin Blanco Pusha T Photo: Sohyung Kang/MTV News Pusha T has been getting plenty of mainstream recognition lately thanks to his G.O.O.D. Music co-sign and standout guest appearances on Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. When the younger half of Virginia rhyme duo the Clipse dropped by “Rap Fix Live” on Thursday, he opened up about trips to Hawaii to craft “Runaway” with ‘Ye , but he also talked about brother and rhyme partner Malice as well as his incarcerated former manager. “Everybody knows that we’ve been through the wringer as far as the whole music and the whole street situation,” Pusha said. “Our family, our management, our friends. I lost five of my closest friends in ’09; like 30 years, 15 years [in prison] or better. A lot of what you see me doing right now is just so that none of that goes in vain, [like], I’mma show y’all that this is not in vain.” Pusha’s onetime manager Anthony “Geezy” Gonzalez was charged in 2009 with leading a $10 million drug-trafficking ring and sentenced to 32 years in prison. Asked whether a lyric from West’s “So Appalled” (“I speak of gospel, hostile/ Tony doing time for what he did to nostrils”) referred to Gonzalez, Pusha, who has typically been guarded about his ex-manager in the press, would only say, “That’s self-explanatory.” According to Pusha, it was the instrumental for “So Appalled” that inspired him to deliver such a spirited verse. “It’s Kanye, the beat brings the ghost out of you,” he said. The Virginia MC gave an update about Malice, who he said has been busy preparing for the release of his memoir, “Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind, and Naked,” with a provocative series of vlogs that include excerpts from the book. “People always say the dichotomy of the Clipse is, I’m the more brash one and Malice is the more introspective one, and [those are] the roles we play in the group,” Pusha explained. “But when you take Malice out of the group and you sit him down and he talks to you, well, writing to you in this book, it’s not rhyming, it’s just these are his words, these are his thoughts, these are his experiences. I think people are going to be blown away by this guy’s mind.” What do you think of Pusha’s verse on “So Appalled”? Share your reviews in the comments. Justin Bieber Performs On ‘The View,’ Tells The Ladies He’s Single

For his second day on the show, Bieber performs ‘Baby.’ By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber appears on “The View” on Monday Photo: ABC Justin Bieber had some of his biggest fans dancing in the aisles at Tuesday’s taping of “The View,” where he made history by being the first guest to make two appearances on the show two days in a row. On Monday he sat down with the ladies to chat about his rise to fame and perform an acoustic version of his track “Never Let You Go,” and on Tuesday he came back for a full-out performance of his single “Baby” off his sophomore release My World 2.0. His performance included a full band, DJ, back-up dancers and singers. But before he hit the stage and before the cameras started rolling, Bieber killed time by beat-boxing and joking around with his bandmates. As soon as the cameras started rolling and Elizabeth Hasselbeck gave him his intro, he went into full-on performance mode singing the track, rapping Ludacris’ part and even busting off some Michael Jackson-like dance moves. Bieber even serenaded a few of his fans in the crowd. After his performance was over, he remained onstage where he revealed he was single and wouldn’t mind dating a girl like Hasselbeck. When the show went back to commercial, he was seen hanging out with all the hosts, minus Barbara Walters who wasn’t on the show, and posing for pictures with them while fans in the stands tried to get his attention. When the show ended, Bieber gave a few extra high-fives to his band and left the stage, leaving his fans excited and wanting more. Ke$ha Clarifies Britney Spears Dis In ‘Styrofoam’

‘I do regret ever even singing that, because I have mad respect for her,’ she says. By James Dinh Ke$ha Photo: Andreas Rentz/ Getty Images On the heels of her apology to Justin Bieber for calling him “a tiny little baby” in the April issue of Maxim, Ke$ha is now taking back a few words regarding Britney Spears. In an old song called “Styrofoam” that surfaced online over the weekend, Ke$ha sings, “In 10 years/ Britney Spears/ Britney who?” But the singer, who did background vocals for Spears’ 2008 track “Lace and Leather,” explained the lyric in an interview with “So You Think You Can Dance Australia.” “Just to clarify, I didn’t write that bit,” she said. “And that was from when I was 15 — and there is a reason that song’s not on my record. So I have to admit now, I do regret ever even singing that, because I have mad respect for her. At the time, I was 15. I didn’t really have the balls to not sing it. That is why it’s not on my record. I can’t really stand behind it.” Dr. Luke, who has worked with Ke$ha and Spears, also got into the mix. In a tweet directed at Perez Hilton, the producer wrote, “Think that song was from like 4 years ago and a joke. 🙂 I don’t believe the Britney press stuff cuz I know she likes Britney.” But that probably isn’t going to change Hilton’s mind. In an interview with MTV News, the blogger expressed his extreme distaste for the “trash-talking train wreck.” “She upsets me,” he said. “I love Ke$ha’s music, but I don’t like her. I hate the stupid dollar sign in her name. I hate the stupid nose ring. I hate the stupid makeup. I hate the fact that she looks like she smells and never showers.” Ke$ha has not yet addressed a comment she reportedly made earlier this month over Spears lip-synching during her shows. “I don’t think that’s fair at all for people who are going to see the show,” she said. “I think if you are going to be a singer, you should sing. If you are going to be a dancer, you should dance.” What do you think of Ke$ha’s comments? Do you buy her apologies? Let us know in the comments! Snoop Dogg Compares Kid Cudi Video To ‘Romper Room’ Kids’ Show

‘It’s just me and him having a good time,’ Snoop says of ‘That Tree’ clip. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Matt Elias Snoop Dogg Photo: MTV News Snoop Dogg and Kid Cudi recently shot the video for their collaboration “That Tree.” The head-nodding number, produced by Diplo and featured on Snoop’s More Malice, features the Doggfather and Cudi trading verses about their favorite smoke-filled pastime. According to Snoop, the video will be “Romper Room”-like, a nod to the famed children’s television series known for its organized-yet-free-for-all episodes. “It’s kind of hard to explain,” Snoop told MTV News about the concept. “It’s like ‘Romper Room.’ It’s kiddish. It’s really fun. Me and him like to have fun, so we wanted the video to depict that. It’s not a real serious video. There’s no champagne room. There’s no money being thrown or a bunch of girls. It’s just me and him having a good time.” The song is one of the additions Snoop’s re-released of ,i> Malice N Wonderland . The More Malice set includes the Cudi-assisted “That Tree,” the “I Wanna Rock” G-mix featuring Jay-Z and the movie version of “Malice N Wonderland.” The West Coast rapper spoke with MTV News last week and explained his decision to repackage his latest project with a film. “I like to be very creative,” he explained. “I like to give people all of Snoop Dogg when I give them an album. I felt like on the [ Malice N Wonderland ] record, I didn’t give all of Snoop Dogg like I really could have. I had to make the record be about 12 songs and conceptually stick to the script as opposed to what I normally do with 20 to 21 songs on the album and overdose people. So what I did [on More Malice ] was, I pulled back from the music and put a little more thought in the creative side as far as the visual aspects. Am I gonna just make one video and say, ‘This is the single,’ and hope that people attract to it? Or was I gonna make a mini-movie to make people understand the philosophy behind this Malice N Wonderland project, and that’s what I was on.” What do think about Snoop Dogg’s video idea?
