From the day it was announced, the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight was expected to be the most profitable night in sports history. While the bout itself may have disappointed some fans who shelled out up to 100 bucks to watch it on pay-per-view, those in a position to profit from the 12-round hug-fest are very happy with how the night played out. According to numbers released today by HBO and Showtime, the fight is officially the highest-grossing pay-per-view event of all time, with more than 4.4 million buys that brought in over $400 million in cash. That’s a million more buys than some experts predicted, and almost two million more than the previous pay-per-view record holder – the 2007 fight between Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya. If you’re doing the math at home, that means that between #MayPac and people paying to watch Game of Thrones online , HBO now officially has all of the money. Naturally, the fight was highly profitable for the fighters involved, although they both found themselves in some potentially expensive legal trouble in the days following the match. He had a house full of bad b!tches. I said Damn you think you me champ.” Well, at least they’ve settled that weird Harry Potter-related feud . Seriously, that was a real thing.
