And while we assume Miley is spending the occasion by continuing to troll Kim Kardashian , we’re gonna honor the artist by looking back over some of her more memorable moments. Marion Barry Dies; Former D.C. Mayor Was 78

Marion Barry, one of the more controversial political figures of modern times, died this morning from causes not yet known. He was 78 years old. Barry rose to national prominent after he was caught by the FBI while smoking crack in a hotel room with a young woman. He screamed “she set me up!” upon being arrested by authorities, but, incredibly, this incident did NOT derail his career. Barry served four rearms as Mayor – including a re-election after serving time in prison – and was often the butt of jokes from comedians, talk show hosts and, most often, on Saturday Night Live. Barry was a council member for Washington’s 8th ward at the time of his passing. “Marion was not just a colleague but also was a friend with whom I shared many fond moments about governing the city,” Mayor Vincent C. Gray said in a statement today. “He loved the District of Columbia and so many Washingtonians loved him.” Celebrities We Lost in 2014 1. Philip Seymour Hoffman R.I.P. Barry had two runs as mayor of DC from 1979-1991 and from 1995-1999, and made national news when he was caught smoking crack cocaine in 1990. Like father, like son: D.C. Council member Marion Barry’s son pled guilty Wednesday to felony possession of PCP and marijuana before a D.C. Superior Court judge. Resembling his late mother Effi, the tall, lean Marion Christopher Barry, 31, stood next to his attorney Frederick Cooke Jr. as his father watched from a seat in the courtroom. In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors said they would not file additional charges and would not seek a prison sentence longer than six months, the low end of charging guidelines for Barry’s offenses. The high end of the sentencing guidance is three-and-a-half years. Barry had been charged with one count of unlawful possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. Barry, his father and Cooke all declined comment after Wednesday’s hearing. Cooke said Barry has been testing negative since his arrest. The younger Barry was arrested May 28 after neighbors reported yelling and sounds of fighting inside his apartment in the 4300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SW, according to police charging documents. When police arrived, according to the documents, Barry refused to open the door, jumped out of his first-floor apartment window and ran, leaving blood on the floor. Inside the apartment, the charging documents said, police found five sandwich bags determined to contain marijuana, as well as a vial three-quarters full of a liquid later determined to be PCP. Barry later returned to the apartment, where he was arrested, the documents said.
