She paired her silk gown with $3,900 Balenciaga Sequin Knife Thigh-High Boots that have the entire internet going H.A.M on Google. The statement shoe is beat with holographic glitter and shows off Mrs. O’s gorgeous legs. The young men believed that they were solely there to take part in a roundtable discussion about life, school and career paths with Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele) and Mrs. Obama’s brother and NBA coach Craig Robinson. It was a glorious moment. Yes, she really said “you know how I do” in response to the idea that this was a “boys only” meeting. God, we love this woman. Mrs. Obama was in the “D” as part of the nationwide Live Nation tour for her best-selling book Becoming , but she wanted to take the opportunity to speak specifically to a group of minority men for the first time and give them encouragement and insight into being successful students, professionals, and people. The students then candidly shared personal experiences about finding their place as Black men in predominately white spaces. One student shared the struggle of having to continuously justify who he was. But you have to practice knowing who you are and focus on just doing the work day by day. That’s really all you can do.” She encouraged all of the young men to push forward and continue to reach new heights of success. Obama is reaching new heights of her own. Michelle Obama is one of the few people who can relate to everything Meghan Markle is going through right now. Except for the part about being involved in a bitter, nasty, petty, vicious rivalry with her sister-in-law , we guess. Both Obama and Markle were thrust into the spotlight due to their relationships with high profile men, however. The former married a State Senator who became President of the United States… while the latter married a handsome party animal who has a mostly meaningless title, yet is very rich, popular and respected. In the new issue of Good Housekeeping, the ex-First Lady offers up a few words of wisdom for the Duchess of Sussex, saying in the pages of this magazine: “Like me, Meghan probably never dreamt that she’d have a life like this, and the pressure you feel – from yourself and from others – can sometimes feel like a lot.” We’re sure this is factual. So, what does Obama suggest? “My biggest piece of advice would be to take some time and don’t be in a hurry to do anything,” she says to/of Markle. It seems sort of like Meghan has already ignored this advice, though, right? She and Prince Harry will welcome a child less than a year after getting married, meaning they made said child together after just three months or so as husband and wife. No judgment of any kind here. We’re just saying: they definitely procreated in a hurry. Markle is similar to Obama in one way, however. Michelle is famous for saying “when they go low, we go high,” making it clear that she won’t ever engage with critics on their cruel levels. Meghan, meanwhile, simply won’t engaged with critics… at all, really. Which is basically the same thing. She has been under attack by her awful half-sister for many months now, yet has never uttered a negative word in public about Samantha Markle . Of late, attention has turned to an alleged feud with Kate Middleton , but Markle has remained mum in regard to this chatter as well. She’s mostly just gone around smiling and keeping herself cool, totally a Michelle Obama kind of move. Obama, of course, raised two daughters directly in the public eye. And Markle will be doing the same with her child once he or she is born. “I spent the first few months in the White House mainly worrying about my daughters, making sure they were off to a good start at school and making new friends before I launched into any more ambitious work,” Obama told Good Housekeeping “I think it’s okay – it’s good, even – to do that.” Kids come first, in other words. At almost all times. Obama also talked about the Duchess of Sussex’s power to make a difference, something Markle does know well, considering her many humanitarian initiatives over the years. Concludes Obama: “What I’d say is that there’s so much opportunity to do good with a platform like that. “And I think Meghan can [maximize] her impact for others, as well her own happiness, if she’s doing something that resonates with her personally.” In September of this year, Meghan helped release a cookbook that features recipes from women affected by the fatal Grenfell Tower fire. Then, in October, she delivered a speech about the importance of women’s rights in New Zealand. She’s on the right track in this department, that much seems certain. Source: Handout / Getty Michelle Obama Tapped Questlove To Curate A Soundtrack For Her Book Besides being the drummer for The Roots, a DJ, an author, and appearing on The Tonight Show 5 nights a week, Questlove is a 24/7 music aficionado. It’s hard to believe he has any time on his hands to do anything more than the 100 jobs he already has–but when certain people ask for a favor, you do it…and Michelle Obama is undoubtedly one of those people. Michelle Obama’s smash-hit Becoming is already breaking all sorts of records, and it comes with an equally impressive soundtrack curated by the man himself. The forever First Lady tapped The Roots drummer and musical expert to create a 300-song playlist to accompany her book. “Like a lot of people, I connect many of my memories with the songs and melodies I was listening to at the time,” Obama shared in a statement about the song selection with Billboard . “From the jazz and Stevie Wonder of my childhood, to Prince and Earth, Wind & Fire as I came into my own as an adult, to Beyoncé , Janelle Monáe , and so many others who provided the stirring backbeats of my time in the White House — music has always been a defining part of who I’ve become.” Michelle went on to say that she is “thankful to Questlove for curating these playlists and infusing them with his signature style.” “Life’s a little better when we live it to Questlove’s beat,” Obama said. The whole playlist is titled, The Michelle Obama Musiaqualogy and you can hear it playing at Obama’s book tour events all over the country. If you can’t make it out to see Michelle speak, Musiaqualogy is also available on Spotify. The massive playlist comes in three volumes, organized by era. Volume One runs from 1964-1979. Volume Two covers 1980-1997. Volume Three spans 1997-2018. The Chicago native visited Ellen and the two went through an excerpt in her book where she describes her first kiss with a guy named Ronell (pronounced Rah-nell in the words of Michelle — “that’s the Black Ronell”). Michelle was already leading the way in 8th grade, having arranged the first kiss outside her house. She then goes on to describe her very first kiss in early childhood and she recalls a hilarious memory of her daughter’s prom night in the clip below. This wasn’t the only shenanigans Michelle got into with Ellen. The two also took a trip to Costco for her book signing and of course, Ellen made the experience as wild as it could possibly be.
