Queen Elizabeth II: Does She Prefer Kate Middleton to Meghan Markle?!

On this side of the pond, few public figures are as popular and well-liked as Meghan Markle. But for reasons that defy explanation, many Brits don’t share our objectively-correct positive opinion of the former Suits star, Last month, a documentary about Meghan and Prince Harry’s trip to Africa made its television debut and offered a far more intmate look into the lives of the Royals than the public is accustomed to receiving. The doc came on the heels of Harry’s lawsuit against a handful of British media outlets whom he accused of bullying Meghan in their coverage. Brits and Americans reacted very differently to these developments. In the US, the couple was widely praised for their efforts to curb the more slanderous tendencies of the infamous British tabloid press. And while many, many UK citizens expressed their support for Meghan — including female members of parliament who did so with an open letter addressed to the Duchess — she was also received a fair amount of flak from prominent public figures who accused her of conduct unbecoming a royal. Some of these critics are easily dismissed — after all Piers Morgan attacks Megha n every chance he gets, seemingly because they had a drink together like a decade ago, and he thought they were gonna get married. But some of them have real clout and when they speak, and their opinions can’t be ignored. And it seems Queen Elizabeth II might be the most prominent of the Meghan skeptics. To be clear, the Queen has not breathed a word against Meghan publicly. In fact, she’s kept mum (Queen mum, if you will) about the Sussexes conflict with the media, as well as their unexpectedly candid documentary interviews. Nothing unusual there, as the Queen typically remains tight-lipped about family matters. But some royal watchers have suggested that when she looks at the events of 2019, the Queen sees Kate Middleton as a paragon of royal values, and she believes that Meghan could learn from Kate’s example. “The Queen is a fan,” a source close to the situation tells Vanity Fair. “Kate is unflappable. Her mantra is very like the Queen’s keep calm and carry on approach in life, and she has the added benefit of making the Royal Family seem almost normal and in touch.” Yes, unflappability is big in the Queen’s book. When Meghan remarked on the “stiff upper lip” mentality that’s so prized among the royals, many suspected she was subtly rebuffing instruction or advice she had received from her in-laws. We may never know if that’s true, but we do know that the Queen is not big on public displays of emotion. And when it comes to keeping a tight lid on her feelings, Kate has Meghan beat. Of course, Kate is British, and prior to becoming a duchess, she spent several years in close association with the royals as William’s girlfriend. She was groomed for this life in a way that Meghan simply wasn’t. But apparently, the Queen feels that Kate has Meghan bested in another area, as well. According to insiders, QE2 feels that Kate is more in touch with the common folk than Meghan, which comes as a surprise. After all, early in her relationship with Harry, Meg’s commoner status — Hollywoodn couldn’t get much further from Buckingham Palace, culturally or geographically — was often cited as the thing that made stodgy royal traditionalists most nervous. But these days, the Queen feels that her family has a public image issue — and she sees Kate as the person who can best demonstrate to her fellow Brits that the royals are people, too. “It feels very much like this has been Kate’s year,” biographer Claudia Joseph tells Vanity Fair. “She looks happy, in control and there’s a new confidence about her. I think Kate seems much happier than a year ago,” Josaph adds. “She has three lovely children, has been honored by the Queen for her hard work and is really well liked not just here but around the world.” Joseph says many of Kate’s recent activities — such as drinking in a pub with some of the parents of her kids’ classmates — have endeared her to a public that’s increasingly wary of the Royals. Sounds like Meghan might have some work to do in regaining the Queen’s favor — fortunately, that work seems to involve sipping pints with the locals, so we imagine she’s up to the task. Meghan Markle & Prince Harry: We’re Done Being Bullied By the British Press!

Last week, Prince Harry blasted the British press for its consistently unfair — and frequently bigoted — treatment of his wife, Meghan Markle. The final straw was the Daily Mail ‘s publication of a letter that Meghan wrote to her estranged father, Thomas Markle . But based on Harry’s comments, it’s safe to assume that he’s been nursing this grudge for quite some time. “I have been a silent witness to her private suffering for too long. To stand back and do nothing would be contrary to everything we believe in,” the prince explained. “There comes a point when the only thing to do is to stand up to this behaviour, because it destroys people and destroys lives. Put simply, it is bullying, which scares and silences people,” Harry added. “We all know this isn’t acceptable, at any level. We won’t and can’t believe in a world where there is no accountability for this.” And Harry did more than just call out his wife’s bullies in a public forum. The father of one put his money where his mouth is by filing a lawsuit against the Mail . It’s an almost-unprecedented move from the royals, who typically just ignore slanderous tabloid gossip. Or at least that was the method preferred by previous generations, who seemed to believe that any response would only serve to legitimize the lies and speculation. But both Harry and his brother have chosen a more progressive approach to the problem. Back in April,  Prince William threatened to sue a UK newspaper  for reporting on rumors that he was cheating on Kate Middleton with one of her closest friends. Now, Harry is making it clear that any media outlets who continue to treat Meghan unfairly will face the full brunt of the royals’ legal team. “It’s an accumulation, and Harry refuses to sit and do nothing as the British press scrutinizes Meghan and invades her privacy,” a source close to the situation explains to Us Weekly . “Meghan comes across as a strong woman, but she’s been deeply affected by the negative stories about her.” While Harry has reportedly marveled at his wife’s imperviousness to the slings and arrows of the tabloid press, insiders say he’s concerned about the long-term effects of such constant libel. According to the Us source, Harry is ”worried that the recent escalation of press intrusion has an impact on his relationship with Meghan, as well as their relationship with the royal family and the public.” And unfortunately, his fears are well-founded. While life as a royal has always been a fishbowl experience characterized by intense press scrutiny, the coverage has never been so constant — or so vitriolic — as it is in 2019. By pushing back against the bullies who are turning our media landscape into unsafe territory, Harry isn’t just standing up for Meghan — he’s fighting for a brighter tomorrow. Prince Harry BLASTS British Press for "Ruthless" Treatment of Meghan Markle

Prince Harry has taken a step that is equal parts unusual and forceful. But all parts admirable. On Tuesday, the Duke of Sussex absolutely, positively, totally and completely WENT OFF on the media for the way it has treated his beloved wife, Meghan Markle. Seriously: Harry came out swinging, you guys. Hard . “Unfortunately, my wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences – a ruthless campaign that has escalated over the past year, throughout her pregnancy and while raising our newborn son,” Harry said in this rare statement. The handsome Prince didn’t just write down a bunch of words, either. He and the Royal Family are suing The Daily Mail for publishing the content of a private letter written awhile back by Markle. We believe the letter in question is one that Meghan wrote to her estranged father , although this has not yet been confirmed by the lawsuit or anyone associated with it. Any regular celebrity gossip follower, however, must be aware overall of all the ways in which various tabloids have quoted anonymous sources that have torn into Markle on the reg. “As a couple, we believe in media freedom and objective, truthful reporting,” continued Harry in this open letter. “We regard it as a cornerstone of democracy and in the current state of the world – on every level – we have never needed responsible media more,” Sounds like a not-so-subtle dig there against President Donald Trump. But that isn’t the point here at all. Not at the moment. One can believe in the value of a free press and also believe in what Harry says next: “There is a human cost to this relentless propaganda, specifically when it is knowingly false and malicious, and though we have continued to put on a brave face – as so many of you can relate to – I cannot begin to describe how painful it has been. “Because in today’s digital age, press fabrications are repurposed as truth across the globe. “One day’s coverage is no longer tomorrow’s chip-paper. “Up to now, we have been unable to correct the continual misrepresentations – something that these select media outlets have been aware of and have therefore exploited on a daily and sometimes hourly basis.” Wow, huh? Talk about some brutal honesty from Harry. “It is for this reason we are taking legal action, a process that has been many months in the making,” he goes on. “The positive coverage of the past week from these same publications exposes the double standards of this specific press pack that has vilified her almost daily for the past nine months; “They have been able to create lie after lie at her expense simply because she has not been visible while on maternity leave. “She is the same woman she was a year ago on our wedding day, just as she is the same woman you’ve seen on this Africa tour.” This is not the first time that Harry has come to Meghan’s defense. Shortly after the couple went public with their relationship in 2016, the prince released a powerful statement, trashing what he called the racist and sexist abuse she had endured since her relationship with him was revealed. We applauded him then and we’re applauding him now. Continued Harry: For these select media this is a game, and one that we have been unwilling to play from the start. I  have been a silent witness to her private suffering for too long. To stand back and do nothing would be contrary to everything we believe in. This particular legal action hinges on one incident in a long and disturbing pattern of behaviour by British tabloid media. The contents of a private letter were published unlawfully in an intentionally destructive manner to manipulate you, the reader, and further the divisive agenda of the media group in question. In addition to their unlawful publication of this private document, they purposely misled you by strategically omitting select paragraphs, specific sentences, and even singular words to mask the lies they had perpetuated for over a year. Harry, tragically, has seen first-hand what happens when a frenzied press goes too far. His mother, Princess Diana, was killed in a 1997 car crash after the vehicle in which she was a passenger sped away from a number of intruding paparazzi members. He invoked this awful incident in his statement on Tuesday. “I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditised to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person,” he wrote, adding: “I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.” The Duke of Sussex’s statement concluded: “We thank you, the public, for your continued support. It is hugely appreciated. Although it may not seem like it, we really need it.” KA-BOOM, huh? A legal spokesperson from Schillings, who are representing the Duchess of Sussex, added on Tuesday: “We have initiated legal proceedings against the Mail on Sunday, and its parent company Associated Newspapers, over the intrusive and unlawful publication of a private letter written by the Duchess of Sussex, which is part of a campaign by this media group to publish false and deliberately derogatory stories about her, as well as her husband. “Given the refusal of Associated Newspapers to resolve this issue satisfactorily, we have issued proceedings to redress this breach of privacy, infringement of copyright and the aforementioned media agenda.” This legal case is being privately funded by Harry and Meghan. Pending a court ruling, proceeds from any damages will be donated to an anti-bullying charity. Kate Middleton Fans Launch Racist Smear Campaign Against Meghan Markle: You Owe All Your Success to the OG Duchess!

There are many weird corners of the internet in which regular folks rally around public figures with the same fierce loyalty that sports fans demonstrate for their favorite football teams. There’s nothing wrong with this fervent devotion,  per se , but when it leads to viewing famous people as inhuman competing factions in some never-ending popularity contest, well … that’s when problems arise. Take, for example, the oft-dissected feud between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle . Now, Kate and Meghan are both successful women who appear to have as many differences as they do similarities, so it was always just a matter of time before the tabloid media pitted them against one another. But in this case, the gossip hounds didn’t have to work very hard, as it seems there really is some bad blood between the duchesses. At one point, the situation got so bad that Kensington Palace issued a statement about the feud . Shortly thereafter, however, things seemed to gradually cool down. As is usually the case with this sort of thing, there are conflicting accounts about how this came to be. Some say Prince Charles brokered a peace deal. Others claim their relationship benefited from Meghan’s decision to cut ties with the Sussexes by moving out of Kensington Palace and dividing their formerly co-run charitable organization into two separate entities. Whatever the case, the duchesses have learned to peacefully co-exist — which is great news for everyone except those weirdos who live for royal discord. And that’s how we found ourselves in our current situation, with Kate diehards launching weird, racist smear campaigns against Meghan. It all started with the bizarre claim that Meghan somehow “owes” Kate for her success. The idea that Kate invented the idea of royalty and Meghan should be groveling at her feet gave raise for a number of despicably bigoted memes: This one is actually an ironic refutation of those memes, but the fact that something like this was necessary should give you an idea of how rampant the “savior Kate” mentality has become. And it seems the current anti-Meg campaign is a two-pronged offensive, as Kate loyalists have also been spreading a rumor that Meghan plans to relaunch her defunct lifestyle site The Tig. Obviously, such a commercial endeavor of that nature would be considered beneath Meghan’s current station, and there’s no way it’s actually happening. The professional haters responsible for the rumor seem to have been inspired by the fact that Meghan recently renewed her trademark on the Tig name. But that doesn’t mean she’ll be publishing new content. “The lasting trademark is to prevent false branding, to avoid others purporting to be the Duchess or affiliated with her,” says a legal expert familiar with the situation. So there you have it Meghan won’t be breaching royal protocol by returning to her career as a content creator. That should be enough to placate the Kate obsessives, right? Jk. These maniacs won’t be satisfied until Kate and Meghan step into the MMA ring live on pay-per-view. View Slideshow: Meghan Markle’s Deleted Instagram Revealed: Booze, Boyfriends & Bedroom Selfies!

Meghan Markle Shares Birthday Tribute to Prince Harry (And a New Photo of Little Archie!)

Prince Harry celebrated a pair of milestones on Sunday: 1. His 35th birthday. 2. His very first birthday as a father. And beloved/beautiful/polarizing wife Meghan Markle was right there to shower her husband with figurative kisses in one of the sweetest tributes you’ll read this month. “Wishing a very happy birthday to His Royal Highness Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex!” opened a caption to the photo above, which was posted @sussexroyal Instagram account. In the very bottom right of this collage, among many other personal and candid photos of Harry, we get a glimpse at a brand new snapshot of him, Markle and their son, Archie. The new image depitcs a doting Harry crouching down to look at his child, who is on mom Meghan’s lap, during a special celebration back in the summer. Elsewhere in the photograph collection? A few childhood pics of Harry, including one him as a baby with his late mother Princess Diana. Also one of Harry as a small boy with brother Prince William. There’s also a gorgeous picture of of the Duke and Duchess kissing at their 2018 wedding. And, finally, pics of Harry in his military uniforms and meeting people on his Royal tours. Wrote Markle herself as a message to Harry: Your service to the causes you care so deeply for inspires me every day. You are the best husband and most amazing dad to our son. We love you. Happiest birthday! Next week, Meghan and Harry are scheduled to travel with young Archie to South Africa for what will mark the child’s first Royal tour. It ought to garner the family a great deal of attention, but today belongs to Harry, not his precious offspring. “Wishing a very happy birthday to The Duke of Sussex today!” read a message on the Instagram page of Kensington Palace, which represents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, alongside a photo of the brothers dressed in military uniforms and smiling at one another. Perhaps this caption will put to rest rumors  of a feud between Harry and William . But probably not, knowing the media and all those supermarket tabloids, you know? Harry’s father Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall also sent their best to the birthday boy today, as did The Royal Family Instagram account, which represents Queen Elizabeth and other members of the family. “Wishing a very Happy Birthday to The Duke of Sussex, who turns 35 today!” Charles and Camilla’s post read. “Happy Birthday to The Duke of Sussex – 35 today! #HappyBirthdayHRH” the Queen’s post read. Harry and Meghan got married in May of 2018 and welcomed their son into the world in May of 2019. We join all these others in sending our best birthday wishes to his adoring dad. Meghan Markle: DONE With Maternity Leave! Snubbing TF Out of the Queen!

Back in May,  Meghan Markle welcomed her first child . But because she lives in a civilized nation where you can stop off for some bangers and mash without fear of some dodgy wanker blowing your bonce off, Meghan was able to take a full four months of maternity leave. She probably could’ve taken even longer if she had wanted, but the temptation to burst through the double doors of her office and strike fear into the hearts of her staff by declaring, “The Duchess is back!” was probably too powerful to resist. We kid, of course. The real reason that Meg came back is that she famously loves her work. Obviously, her philanthropic efforts are her main professional focus these days, and she’s found a way to incorporate her skills as an artist and businesswomen into her calling as a humanitarian. And so, Meghan is set to launch two exciting projects in as many weeks. The first is that is a travel initiative called Travalyst that Meghan is launching in cooperation with Prince Harry. The project is designed to help shift the travel industry toward more environmentally-friendly practices. It was likely inspired by the recent controversy over Meghan and Harry’s decision to take a private jet  to Elton John’s estate in the South of France. But hey, regardless of what prompted the move, at least it’s happening. The second project that’s got Meg’s attention these days is a line of workwear for women that will benefit her Smart Works patronage, which aims to find jobs for women who are struggling financially. All pretty great stuff. Hard to imagine that anyone could find any fault with Meg this week, right? Ha! We kid — the British tabloid press is a well-oiled controversy-generating machine, and they’ve kept their Meg-hating streak going this week by claiming that the Duchess of Sussex snubbed the Queen by not visiting Balmoral as planned last weekend. “Harry and Meghan had no plans to go to Balmoral this summer as they felt Archie was too young,” a source close to the situation tells The Sun. “It’s a bit odd, as his age didn’t stop them taking him to Ibiza for a week and then to see Elton John in France,” the insider adds. “If they want privacy or protection — which was Harry’s excuse for taking private jets — there is no more protected or private holiday destination than the Queen’s Scottish home.” The insider goes on to perpetuate the notion that Meghan is too much of a woke hippie to hang witht the rough-and-tumble Royals: “It’s all very hunting, shooting, fishing up at Balmoral, so maybe that put Meghan off,” says the source. “She has never been to Balmoral and the Queen was disappointed they’re not going.” Yes, we’re sure Meg was kept away by the pheasant hunting, and not the fact that she has a 4-month-old baby at home and 18 business ventures in the works. Prince Harry: To Save the Planet, I’ll Have a Maximum of THIS Many Kids

Longtime fans of the Duchess were thrilled to see Meghan Markle’s British Vogue takeover . Within the magazine’s pages, Prince Harry sat down with the legendary conservationist, Dr. Jane Goodall. They spoke about the state of the world, concerns for the future, and Harry’s strict limit on how many children he might have. Prince Harry interviewed Dr. Jane Goodall for British Vogue ‘s September issue — an issue that his wife secretly guest-edited. “We are the one species on this planet that seems to think that this place belongs to us, and only us,” Harry remarks. Goodall agrees and remarks that humanity will likely continue to feud over resources, commenting that the state of the world is “terrifying.” She shares her suspicion that Harry has grown more anxious about the world, not less, since welcoming baby Archie into the world. “Well, it does make it different, doesn’t it?” the famed conservationist prompts him. “It does make it different,” Harry confirms. “I think, weirdly, because of the people that I’ve met and the places that I’ve been fortunate enough to go to,” he adds. “I’ve always had a connection and a love for nature.” “I view it differently now, without question,” Harry expresses. “But I’ve always wanted to try and ensure that, even before having a child and hoping to have children…” he begins. This is where Dr. Goodall cuts him off, interjecting: “Not too many!” “Two, maximum!” Harry acknowledges. That is extremely sensible for a number of reasons. “But I’ve always thought: this place is borrowed,” he shares. “And, surely, being as intelligent as we all are, or as evolved as we all are supposed to be,” Harry suggests. In his very correct view: “We should be able to leave something better behind for the next generation.” Dr. Goodall says that it was immediately clear to her that Harry was interested in conservation efforts. “We talked about Roots and Shoots and I said, ‘Of course you’re interested now, you have a baby,’ and he said, ‘Of course!’” she recalls. “When you bring a child into the world, you have to worry about the future,” Goodall points out. “If we don’t make change, we don’t have a future,” she reasons. “It’s as simple as that.” Dr. Goodall also had the privilege of visiting baby Archie at Frogmore Cottage and has shared her assessment of him. “He’s very cute and very gentle,” she praises of the royal baby. As we mentioned earlier, Meghan Markle was the secret guest editor for the issue. “I was about five months pregnant when this process began,” Meghan wrote. She continued: “and by the time you hold this issue in your hands, my husband and I will be holding our three-month-old baby boy in ours.” “It’s a very special time for me personally, on so many levels,” Meghan gushed. The Duchess continued: “working with Edward and his team, both during my pregnancy and my maternity leave, has played no small part in that joy.” She concluded: “It has been a privilege to be welcomed and supported by this amazing team.” Notably, this interview is not the first time that Prince Harry has put his foot down about the idea of raising a small army of offspring. Back in July of 2018, in Dublin, a 43-year-old woman named Elaine Adam-Stewart told Harry her story. “My husband also has red hair and he gave me five children,” she told him, asking: “When are you and Meghan going to get going?” Adam-Stewart recalled: “He laughed and said, ‘Five children? — too many.’” He’s right. While everyone has some degree of environmental impact, people of tremendous wealth tend to have a much larger carbon footprint. Queen Elizabeth II to Meghan Markle: You Can’t Get a Dog Because I SAID SO!

Ever since she married Prince Harry back in May of 2018, Meghan Markle’s ability to get along with her royal in-laws has been a subject of constant speculation and debate. Has Meghan breached royal protocol again? Is she really feuding with Kate Middleton ? Is her apparent beef with the Duchess of Cambridge just a smokescreen disguising Prince William’s feud with Prince Harry ? These are questions that have popped up repeatedly in tabloid headlines and have even served as the inspiration for numerous lengthy thinkpieces that touch on topics of race, the “special relationship” between England and America, and the nature of royalty itself. Unfortunately, it may be decades before the story of Meghan’s assimilation into the royal family can really be told truthfully. Until then, we’re left to ponder smaller questions — like why in the hell would Queen Elizabeth II tell Meg she can’t adopt a freakin’ dog? Yes, as you may recall, earlier this year, Harry and Meghan moved out of Kensington Palace and into Frogmore Cottage, an estate on the Queen’s property. They also relocated their offices, which means they now work in close quarters with Elizabeth — who has apparently made it clear that there are struct rules in place regarding pets. “Harry and Meghan have moved their offices in with the Queen’s Buck House, and she absolutely does not want some mutt messing up her rugs,” a source close to the situation tells Radar Online. “Plus her corgis rule the roost there and don’t take too kindly to outsiders.” But it seems even queens engage in compromise from time to time: “The Queen has said Meghan can do what she wants on her own property out at Frogmore, but is not to bring any of them to the Palace,” the insider continues. “Meghan would be devastated by this, given rescues are her chosen passion.” So it sounds less like Meghan is not allowed to have a dog and more like there would be restrictions on where the dog is allowed to roam on the grounds — which seems totally reasonable. Still, in the interest of stirring up drama, the insider says this is the Queen’s way of keeping Meghan in check following several recent breaches in royal protocol. It seems the most serious violation was Meghan’s baby shower , which was apparently such a no-no that QE2 is still pissed about it, several months later: “Baby showers and post-birth celebrations are simply not done in the royal family so this will likely set off some fireworks at Buckingham Palace,” Yet again, being royalty sounds like it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. You have to give up the right to have a party with your friends, and you’re not even allowed to behead people anymore? What’s the point? Meghan Markle & Kate Middleton Bury the Hatchet After "Bonding Over Motherhood" [Report]

It’s hard to imagine that anyone could possibloy do more with a single year of their life than what Meghan Markle has accomplished in the past 12 months. But despite all that she’s achieved, it was often Meghan’s feud with Kate Middleton that dominated tabloid headlines. Yes, for as long as she’s been a Royal, Meghan’s allegedly strained relationship with Kate has been a favorite subject of the media. Even after new revelations indicated that it was a feud between Harry and William that caused the women to behave coolly toward one another in public, certain media outlets couldn’t resist the “catfighting duchesses” narrative. In recent weeks, however, there’s been a shift not only in Meg and Kate’s behavior toward one another, but also in the way the press has been covering their relationship. Kate and Meghan attennded Wimbledon together last week, and it was hard not to notice the signs that the two of them had seemed to be enjoying an almost-sisterly bond. Now, the renewed friendship between the “princess moms” is the subject of a People magazine cover story. “There is a sense of [Meghan and Kate’s] relationship strengthening,” says a source close to the situation. The source says that the duchesses “were genuine and sweet together,” while watching Meghan’s friend Serena Williams compete. When Williams lost her match, “Kate put her hand out and rubbed Meghan’s back to console her,” the insider recalls. “It illustrated a warm relationship between these women who have young babies and are in similar situations in their lives,” royal expert Victoria Arbiter told People. “Coming from different backgrounds, I think, they have more the makings of a team than people imagined,” says author and historian Robert Lacey. ‘“And they have a common interest as partners to these two men who are so crucial to the monarchy, along with their children.” People’s source confirms that the duchesses have become much closer in the months since Meghan welcomed her first child . “They’re each a little more relaxed,” says the insider. “They have more in common now.” Ironically, Kate and Harry’s decision to move out of Kensington Palace apparently brought the couple closer to Will and Kate. The source claims distancing themselves from the living space they once shared has allowed the Fab Four “them more time to be like family,” rather than colleagues. Whatever the case, we much prefer this narrative to the one in which Kate and Meg are forever at one another’s throats — and we’re sure we’re not alone!
