Jay-Z’s South By Southwest Concert To Stream Live

Jay returns to Austin, Texas, festival after joining Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music show at last year’s SXSW. By Kara Warner Jay-Z Photo: Getty Images After bringing down the house at last year’s South by Southwest music festival as part of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music show , Jay-Z is set to return to the Austin city limits for a special live-stream concert event. The event, “Amex Sync Show Presenting Jay-Z,” was announced Tuesday (March 6) in conjunction with a new Twitter initiative for American Express cardholders. Rumors have been circulating that Jay might be cooking up a big event at the fest with Eminem, but nothing has been announced about Em’s involvement. Last year’s G.O.O.D. event was such a smashing success — featuring John Legend, Mos Def, Pusha T, Big Sean, Kid Cudi and more — that it wouldn’t be a surprise if Jay and Eminem were working on something equally entertaining for this year’s increasingly popular music and film festival. Jay-Z’s SXSW performance will be live-streamed on YouTube.com on Monday at 8 p.m. ET. A special rebroadcast will be available on-demand from Tuesday, March 13, to Monday, March 19, on YouTube, Twitter and Xbox LIVE. mtvU’s Woodie Awards also take place during the Austin, Texas, festival, including a day-long fest of our own Thursday, March 15, that will feature performances from Childish Gambino, Fun., A$AP Rocky, Kimbra and Chiddy Bang. Jay and Kanye lead this year’s nominees , which also include the Black Keys, Skrillex, Mac Miller, Frank Ocean, J. Cole and many more. The 2012 mtvU Woodies invade SXSW on March 15 with the Woodies Festival. The best of the 2012 mtvU Woodies will air on MTV and mtvU on Sunday (March 18) at 8 p.m. ET. Karma Is A Beyotch: John “Racist Member” Mayer Has Been Diagnosed With Severe Throat Condition

Maybe this throat condition will keep ol’ John from putting his foot in his mouth so much… John Mayer has been diagnosed with granuloma, a serious throat condition that has forced him to cancel all plans to sing in the near future. In a post on his blog, the guitarist explained that he has spent several months monitoring his condition, but has been advised by doctors to bow out of planned appearances at the iheartradio Music Festival in Las Vegas and an appearance with Tony Bennett in Los Angeles. Mayer’s condition has also set back work on his forthcoming album. “Born and Raised is complete as far as music recording, song selection, and in some cases mixing, but because of this condition I couldn’t finish singing on several of the tracks,” he wrote on his blog. “This means the record will be released next year instead of this fall or winter.” Mayer is hopeful that this illness is only a temporary issue. “I’m not sure how long or short a period of time it will be,” he wrote. “I’ve got the best doctors in the country looking after me and I will be singing and touring again as soon as I get the all-clear. Until then I’ll be spending time writing and composing more music and kicking an empty soup can around the West Village.” You can always count on Karma. The power of the tongue is some powerful isht. Kate Middleton’s Lovely Royal Breasts

Not too long ago I kinda got into a little hot water over some Kate Middleton bikini pictures I posted on the site, it wasn’t so much about the pictures, but more about the rude comments I made about the future queen hosing down her sexy little bikini body. Alright, so I didn’t get into any real trouble, the Canadian parliament was upset with my behavior that’s all and they brought it up in the House of Commons. You can watch the video HERE . Anyhow, to show that there are no hard feelings I thought that I’d bring you these pictures of Kate’s Royal nipples spending some time out in London on a cold day. You’re welcome. PS. Hilary Duff Gets Kissy Face On Twitter

Here’s Hilary Duff giving her friend an innocent little peck on the cheek at the Coachella music festival over the weekend. At least it looks innocent enough, but this is just a gateway kiss. This is how these things start, with a playful friendly kiss between friends posted on your Twitter page, then a threeway with your hockey player douche and before you know it you’re leg wrestling Tila Tequila at a Señor Frog’s for rent money. Don’t forget to post pictures of that last part. Call me.

Death Cab For Cutie Prep Exceptionally Live ‘You Are A Tourist’ Video

The clip, the ‘first-ever scripted, single-take video’ to be aired live as it’s filmed, will premiere on April 5. By James Montgomery Photo: Atlantic Records Death Cab For Cutie are gearing up for the May 31 release of their Codes and Keys album with a brand-new video that may not actually be a video at all. On April 5, they’ll unveil the clip for Codes’ first single, “You Are a Tourist,” which — according to a press release from their label, Atlantic Records — will be the “first-ever scripted, single-take video … to be aired live as it is filmed.” The whole thing will be broadcast to the entire world on April 5 at 7 p.m. ET/ 4 p.m. PT through YouAreATourist.com , allowing fans to view the entire production as it unfolds. No breaks in the action, no edits, just one long, exceptionally live take. The “Tourist” clip will be directed by Tim Nackashi — who’s worked with the likes of OK Go and Radiohead — and conceptualized by frequent collaborator Aaron Stewart-Ahn, who did DCFC’s “I Will Possess Your Heart” vid. Microsoft’s Bing search engine will be providing exclusive behind-the-scenes content through its Facebook page and fans can add the “Tourist” event to their calendars using the mobile barcode scanning app RedLaser and a QR Code (that’s that funny-looking box thing) that is being posted on Death Cab’s official site and Twitter feed. Death Cab for Cutie’s Codes and Keys is now available for pre-order (in a variety of special bundles) over on the band’s site . In the weeks leading up to the album’s release, DCFC will hit the road for a run of North American shows, beginning on May 18 in Toronto. They’ll also headline the Sasquatch! Music Festival on May 28 in George, Washington. What do you think about Death Cab’s unique video shoot? Share your opinions in the comments. Related Artists Death Cab For Cutie

Queens of the Stone Age Keep Rock Alive In Austin, Texas

The Josh Homme-fronted band played its entire self-titled debut album and assorted other favorites at the SXSW festival on Wednesday. By Zachary Swickey Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme performs at SXSW on Wednesday Photo: Zachary Swickey AUSTIN, Texas — Walking onstage sporting a red, slicked-back mohawk mullet, with bottle of vodka in hand, the riff factory known as Josh Homme was ready to get down to business with his old pals on Wednesday night. While he was a little busy last year working with a few guys you may have heard of — Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones — in the side project Them Crooked Vultures, Homme is now waxing nostalgic by playing the Queens’ eponymous 1998 debut in its entirety on a new tour . What better place to kick off said trek than the tiny, 1,200-capacity La Zona Rosa at the South by Southwest music festival? The band wasted no time kicking into “Regular John,” which set the tone for the night as Queens pulled the tune off flawlessly. The Queens must have had fun rehearsing the old record, because there were no audible technical mishaps, and no small subtleties were left out as the keypad sounds that began “You Would Know” were heard. After the intense instrumental “Hispanic Impressions,” Homme calmed things down — lighting himself a cigarette and taking a swig of his bottle — before serenading the women in the audience with “You Can’t Quit Me Baby.” Soon, we were all ordered to dance to the thundering drumbeat of “Give the Mule What He Wants.” After performing their whole self-titled album, start-to-finish, Queens of the Stone Age came back with an encore full of hits that was nearly as long. Homme asked the audience for any song requests, and a lucky woman got hers fulfilled when they played the sexy fan-favorite “Make It Wit Chu,” from Era Vulgaris. Homme’s banter was livelier than ever as he mimicked one concertgoer who sounded like Sammy Hagar (“Paaaaarty!”), and then proceeded to chastise a security guard for spotlighting another fan. “Hey, turn your light off and let the guy film the show if he wants,” the singer/guitarist commanded. “Let him do whatever he wants.” The comment could not have seemed more appropriate considering that after the next song, Homme handed his bottle of vodka (now half-empty) to the front row of fans. The audience’s fervor and intensity was at its highest during “Go With the Flow,” which started a small ruckus in the crowd for first time in the night. As Homme shredded away to “Little Sister” from Lullabies to Paralyze came the sad realization that the night was coming to a close. Sobriety may work for Eminem, but it has no place in the music world in where Josh Homme lives. Rest assured, if Elvis were alive today, he and Homme would be drinking buddies. Leave it to Queens of the Stone Ago to let the world know that rock and roll is alive and well. Have you caught Queens of the Stone Age in concert? Share your experiences in the comments.
