Source: Christopher Polk / Getty The internet’s done it again. After a worldwide social media push urging MTV to honor Missy Elliott’s music video artistry, the network has decided to honor the rapper with this year’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Missy has been nominated for 41 VMAs over the course of her career, winning seven. This year will mark the rapper’s first performance at the VMAs since 2003 when she performed “Work It.” The same year, she took home the award for Video of the Year. “Missy’s impact on the music landscape is indelible,” Viacom’s Head of Music and Music Talent Bruce Gillmer said in a statement. “Her creative vision across production, performance and songwriting is unmatched.” MTV is going a step further, linking up with Pepsi to honor Missy with celebrity and fan videos celebrating her legacy. The network is also planning a pop-up that will immerse attendees in some of her iconic videos. No word on a location for that pop-up museum yet, but it’s slated to be somewhere in NYC between August 24th and 25th. The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award has been given out at the VMAs since 1984 and was named after the King of Pop in 1991. David Bowie, the Beatles and Richard Lester were some of its first recipients. Source: Rolling Stone
Source: Thomas Winz / Getty Police Were Called To A Rap Music Video Because Of Fake Guns Police in Southlake, Texas received a call on August 5th from a resident who claimed to see a group of men taking pictures with what they thought to be real guns. Officers arrived to the scene with their guns drawn and ended up detaining the four men. Soon after arriving, the cops realized that the whole thing was a false alarm. The men were actually shooting a music video and the weapons in question were just airsoft rifles. They also had fake bulletproof vests and bags of sugar that were made to look like drugs. To make matters worse, the house they were filming in front of was actually not the one they were supposed to be at, because they apparently got the address confused. As Fox 35 pointed out, police were on “high alert” following the mass shootings that occurred nearby in El Paso and Dayton. The bodycam footage captured the whole incident, but the faces of the men shooting the music video were blurred out since they didn’t end up being charged or arrested. Right after the whole thing went down, Southlake DPS took to Facebook to address the incident. “They had come to Southlake to film a rap video, but ended up going to the wrong house on the wrong street. No charges were filed and the citizens were released,” they wrote. “This was a great job of the citizens following officer commands, keeping a cool head, and understanding why we showed up in the first place. Our officers also should be commended for their attention to detail, excellent training, and meticulous investigating.”

Source: Gary Miller / Getty Chance The Rapper Takes No. 2 Spot On Billboard 200 Chart Chance the Rapper is known for his spiritual and gospel infused music and in many cases, his ideas have resulted in success. But now, it seems like his recent debut album The Big Day isn’t receiving the same acclaim. Along with lukewarm reviews , Chance also couldn’t make the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 Chart. ANOTHER Christian-leaning rapper did, however. According to Billboard , rapper NF scored his second No. 1 album thanks to his release The Search. The project released on July 26, brought in the equivalent of 130,000 album units in the U.S. in the week ending in August 1. Chance’s The Big Day came in at number two with 108,000 equivalent album units earned. Eighty thousand of those streams were via streaming, making his release the most streamed of the week. The Bid Day is also Chance’s highest charting album yet. So Chance does have some wins this week. But considering the buzz he’s built over the years, it’s still surprising that he did’t take the number one spot. His second place might have been avoided with more promotion and single releases before the album dropped. Chance basically just made a random announcement on Jimmy Fallon and that’s how people knew about the album, although he did make mention of it as early as February . Anywho, Chance is still winning in a lot of ways and maybe the album might gain more steam in the coming weeks…if we can get a single, a music video, anything . We’ll keep you posted.

Source: Keipher McKennie / Getty Wack 100 Argues With YG About His Gang Affiliation Things are going left over on the West Coast. An Instagram post on Friday night over on Wack 100’s page ended up starting some serious rap beef. The famous hip-hop manager shared a screenshot of some text where he called out rappers who claim to be about that street life, but are really faking it for the industry. “One thing I respect is this – Blueface came into this rap game Crip’n,” Wack wrote in his post. “The Game came into it Piru’n – Mozzy came into it Blood’n – some of you n***as was wearing skinny jeans and dancing without a gang slogan coming out ya mouth until you got enough money to buy you a set.” View this post on Instagram Wish a nigga would say a word I’ll embarrassed the fuck outta nigga playing with me !!!! Enough is enough if it’s on let it be on …. A post shared by The GodFather (@wack100) on Aug 2, 2019 at 7:06pm PDT Wack assisted all of the text in his photo with a caption that reads, “Wish a n***a would say a word I’ll embarrassed the f**k outta n***a playing with me !!!! Enough is enough if it’s on let it be on ….” While he didn’t name any names in his IG post, YG clearly felt slighted and decided to slide into his comments to let the manager know he got the message loud and clear. “You shoulda @‘d me big gangsta og piru god father,” the rapper wrote in Wack’s comment section. He added more comments later, including a stream of laughing emojis, calling out Wack’s “Instagram fingers,” and another writing, “don’t beg me to do no more verses either.” The manager then entered the comment section, responding to YG and writing, “I @ you on your own post little n***a ! You’d a little n***a gone always be a little n***a mr Toot it and Boot it wasn’t a gang sign in the video all SKINNY JEANS ! The words described you that’s why ya responded you knew it was you !!!! SHOE FIT WEAT IT N***A.” He also left another comment saying, “@yg @DefjamYG was how you came into this s**t ! I think you bigger than the funk ! School Yards saved your ass at that studio wasn’t no Damu’s #BigWy coached you on your first ‘BLOOD’ verse to come out your mouth ! If it was a problem N***a i told @Tyga to take us off and by the way I got the screen shots your team ain’t loyal. You better bick back.” View this post on Instagram #YG wasn’t here for the subs #Wack100 was throwing A post shared by The Shade Room (@theshaderoom) on Aug 2, 2019 at 8:23pm PDT From Wack’s clarification in the comments about the “Toot It And Boot It” music video, it’s pretty clear that his initial post was indeed a sub at YG–which implies that there were some other issues between them boiling before this. The rapper just released a collaboration with Blueface and Tyga called “Bop,” a few days ago–and since Wack 100 is Blueface’s manager, his encounters with YG while making the track are probably what led to this apparent feud.
Source: AlexSava / Getty 1 Dead, 5 Injured On Set Of Music Video In Philadelphia A 21-year-old man was reportedly shot dead, and five others injured, while filming a music video in Southwest Philly last night. According to reports, no arrests have been made and none of the victims has been identified at this time. From 6ABC : Police said one person is dead and five others are wounded after shots rang out moments before a rap video production was about to get underway on Sunday night in Southwest Philadelphia. It happened around 8 p.m. along the 2600 block of Carroll Street. Officers arrived at the scene to find six shooting victims. Police confirm a 21-year-old man was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. Another 23-year-old man was also found with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. “They were about to shoot a rap video when someone, a couple of people, came and shot one or more or persons,” said Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross. “These all very young men. Sadly this is what we see over and over again, but you know hopefully we’ll get someone to step forward because these are the type of incidents where we do worry about retaliation.” Police said the group of about 10 men, all in their early 20s, were about to start filming when someone got out of a black car and began firing approximately 10 shots. Four other victims (two of which are also in critical condition) were reportedly shot in the finger, right leg and chest, leg, and neck and back. We are keeping these young men in our prayers.

Recently, Williams sat down with Urban View host Karen Hunter of “The Karen Hunter Show” to discuss the latest. Naturally, the divorce came up.
