Any great awards show monologue skewers the nominees and sets the tone for the festivities to come, and this weekend’s awards tour didn’t disappoint — if you were watching the Film Independent Spirit Awards and not the Oscars, that is. Host Seth Rogen trumped Billy Crystal the day before the Academy Awards when he roasted Hollywood’s brightest along with Spirit Award nominees (like “creepy” — and apparently good humored — Michael Shannon). As for Rogen’s best joke? It’s got to be a toss up between his Ratner snipe (“Without awards season we wouldn’t know how much of a horrible bigot Brett Ratner is”) and his Lars von Trier hiding-in-Argentina bit. And the award for Most Random Celebrity to Make News on Oscar Night goes to… Sean Young! The actress was booked on charges of misdemeanor battery last night after an alleged incident outside the Governor Balls in Hollywood, an annual Academy Awards party hosted by the Academy itself. Sources tell TMZ that Young was hanging out with friends near the entrance of the party when she was asked to leave because she didn’t have an invitation. When Young returned a short while later, a security guard placed his hand on her shoulder, in an attempt to escort her off the premises, when Young reportedly slapped him and was placed under citizen’s arrest until the LAPD arrived and took her into custody. Kim Kardashian just showed us. A day after she turned 31 and we mocked this reality star for scarcely accomplishing anything in life that didn’t rely on her large boobs and marketing-savvy mother, Kardashian has landed a major movie role. She will play one of the leads in The Marriage Counselor , Deadline reports , the next project written and directed by Tyler Perry. It is based on a play by the same name and centers around a twist on The Wedding Planner : Jurnee Smollett will portray a marriage counselor who excels in her job, but not in her relationship. Kardashian will take on the role of this character’s friend, Ava. The movie starts shooting next week in Atlanta. Perry, of course, has grown into one of the most successful and influential men in Hollywood. His films ( Why Did I Get Maried? , Madea’s Family Reunion ) typically cater to African-Americans, making Kim a natural fit. Justin Bieber continues to make all other boyfriends look bad. A month after the 17-year old sensation rented out the Staples Center – yes, the entire Staples Center – for a private screening of Titanic for him and Selena Gomez, The Winnipeg Free Press reports that Bieber pulled a similar romantic stunt Friday night in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This time, the couple enjoyed an emptied-out theater and watched Real Steel together. According to the newspaper, Justin and Selena had a cheese pizza delivered to the theater and were whisked away in black Lincoln SUV after the showing. This is the least Bieber can do, really.
