Source: Tom Szczerbowski / Getty We found out overnight what the best gift the Drake received for Christmas was and no it wasn’t an exotic car either. It was a painting from his no longer secret child Adonis that had the 6 God gushing over his seed on the gram. “Adonis > Picasso don’t @ me.” Those are words only a proud father would say when receiving such a gift. Drizzy took a break from posting thirst traps on his gram with the photo of the painting from his son. The framed masterpiece is a colorful mesh of Adonis’ handprints. While it’s not a photo of his son, it’s still a welcomed break from all the social media madness involving the “In My Feelings” rapper. Not too long ago Kanye West was on the attack reigniting his “beef” with Drizzy on Twitter which even had Kim Kardashian accusing Drake of threatening her family. It’s very obvious Drake loves being a dad and who knows one day the next Adonis related post will be a picture of the two sharing a moment together. — Photo: Tom Szczerbowski / Getty
C ould all of Bill Cosby ‘s legal woes finally be catching up with his finances, which at one time was among the most lucrative in all of entertainment? The disgraced comedian and his wife, Camille , sold one “iconic painting” from the couple’s world-renowned art collection earlier this year and have “pledged another” to serve as “collateral for a loan from an art finance firm,” according to a report from Bloomberg published Friday morning. The paintings were by Thomas Hart Benton, whose artwork was priced anywhere from $20,000 to $35,000 on auction house Christie’s website . However, the painting that was sold — “Going West” — and the other one pending — “The Instruction” — were considered to be among Benton’s crowning artistic achievements, sending their combined value soaring to as high as $14 million, an art gallery owner told Bloomberg. Thomas Hart Benton, going west pic.twitter.com/birTnfcfh0 — hocus crocus (@arcturus321) August 15, 2017 The underlying implications were that the man who just months ago had a reported net worth of about $400 million could be looking to unload some or all of his valuable art collection to make some fast money. While no reasons for the sale and loan were provided — “Andrew Wyatt, a spokesman for the Cosbys, said he hadn’t been aware of their art sale and declined to comment” — Time reported after his conviction in April that Cosby was “facing financial ruin” from legal fees and possible and pending civil suits from accusers. Some irony can be found in this latest update to Cosby’s downfall, as it was during an interview with the Associated Press that was supposed to only be about his art collection when a reporter asked him and his wife a question about being accused of drugging and groping women. Things only got worse for Cosby from there, starting with his indictment, arrest, first trial that ended with a hung jury, a retrial that returned a guilty verdict and a prison sentence months later in September. Cosby’s revolving team of lawyers has argued for his immediate release because the judge presiding over the trial “kept the truth from being disclosed.” But that possibility seems far-fetched at best as Cosby was facing lawsuits not just from alleged victims but also from some of his former lawyers, who have claimed he owes nearly $283,000 in unpaid legal fees and were seeking a late fee of 1.5%. Only time will tell how this plays out and whether Cosby was trying to sell his artwork out of convenience or necessity. However, compounded with the reports of Camille wanting a divorce, the optics surrounding what could turn out to be a glorified liquidation sale don’t bode well for the state of the couple’s financial health. E arlier this year it was announced that Henrietta Lacks —a Black woman whose cells were used without her consent to further medical research —would have her painting added to the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. Now, Lacks will be honored in another special way. Johns Hopkins University recently shared that it would name one of their campus buildings after Lacks, the Baltimore Sun reported. Johns Hopkins University will name a new interdisciplinary building after Henrietta Lacks, a Baltimore woman whose cells were the basis of research for numerous modern medical breakthroughs. https://t.co/bEqVbpqVdK — The Baltimore Sun (@baltimoresun) October 8, 2018 The Baltimore-based school revealed the news at the Henrietta Lacks Memorial Lecture that’s hosted each year, the news outlet writes. The structure—which will stand on the university’s East Baltimore campus—is slated to open its doors in 2022. “[The building] will be a place that stands as an enduring and powerful testament to a woman who not only was the beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother to generations of the Lacks family, but the genesis of generations of miraculous discoveries that have changed the landscape of modern medicine and that have benefited in truth the much larger family of humanity entirely,” said the university’s president Ronald Daniels . Lacks has complex ties to the university. According to the news outlet, her cells were taken from her without her knowledge while she underwent a medical procedure in the 1950s at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Her cells, dubbed “HeLa” cells, were able to live outside of her body and furthered research related to in vitro fertilization and cancer treatments. She ended up passing away due to cervical cancer. Her loved ones are honored that the school decided to name a building after her. “It is a proud day for the Lacks family. We have been working with Hopkins for many years now on events and projects that honor our grandmother,” Lacks’ granddaughter Jeri Lacks said in a statement, according to Diverse Issues. “They are all meaningful, but this is the ultimate honor, one befitting of her role in advancing modern medicine.” SEE ALSO: Henrietta Lacks’ Portrait Will Live At The Smithsonian Museum Oakland Museum To Digitize Rare Footage Of Black Protests [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3830165″ overlay=”true”]
Source: Justin Horrocks / Getty Weddings are special moments for everyone involved — but Black weddings take the word “celebration” to a whole new level. Everyone has that one aunty who thinks she’s better than the rest of the family, but you still love her to death. Comedian Cousin Al made a video that so accurately describes Black families at weddings that you’ll swear he knew your entire family personally. Which family member are you? via GIPHY
Source: Cole Burston / Getty People are continuing to be inspired by Drake ‘s “Nice For What” release and this time the art world is taking notice. Painter Richard Wilson caught a look at the music video and one image in particular inspired him to paint a whole wall. The image he saw turned out to be Yara Shahidi and the ironic thing is, Richard didn’t even know who she was before he painted the London mural. He had to ask folks on the gram about this woman who served as his muse. “Since then I find out she’s an amazing role model for young women in particular and has a huge following,” he said in an Instagram post. “It’s really cool cos this wall is pretty random, the path it’s on is used by parents taking their kids to school, cyclists, some alcoholics and dog walkers. Definitely not a place i’d have painted Yara if I knew. Excuse my ignorance not knowing who she was, but i learnt a lesson that you don’t always need to go big, it’s been a fixation for me lately tbh to find BIG walls only, but maybe the content is the key, just like everything always.” Despite Richard not knowing who Yara was, she definitely approved the painting. She reposted it on her page and now it’s been liked by thousands of people. Seems like all is well that ends well. You can check out the finished painting below, along with Richard’s touching words on the future generation!
Source: NBC / Getty Tyler Perry was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday night, and the movie mogul revealed that he was recently in a bidding war with a 6-year-old–but not just any 6-year-old, Blue Ivy . Perry attended the Wearable Art Gala fundraiser on March 17 on Los Angeles, and at one point in the night, a painting was presented that he had his eye one. He recalled, “I was really, really excited to be there and there was this art that came out for auction. It’s this beautiful painting of Sidney Poitier and I’m like, ‘I’ve got to have that.’” His excitement led to him immediately bidding on the painting, but he wasn’t the only one who wanted it, which he realized as someone in another aisle counter-bid: Blue Ivy. The mini Carter didn’t back down quickly, either. Tyler recounted the event saying, ‘Oh, I’m gonna teach you a lesson today!’” as Blue kept bidding higher and higher. “And she keeps going up and up and up with it!” The actor eventually won the painting with a $20,000 bid, but only after Jay Z hilariously snatched the paddle from his daughter’s hands. Watch the video below to hear Perry tell his side of the story.
Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty Just in case you’re wondering if Blue Ivy might own you one day, the golden child of Beyoncé and Jay-Z was out here bidding big bucks for a piece of artwork. It all went down at the 2018 Wearable Art Gala on Saturday, which was organized by Tina Knowles and her husband Richard Lawson to raise money for a non-profit art and performance complex. A painting of a young Sidney Poitier was up for auction and Blue started off by bidding $17,000. She eventually went to $19,000 before her dad jokingly stopped her from going any higher. Little People, Big World are asking two questions these days: Isn’t is SO exciting that Audrey Roloff gave birth and that she welcomed a little girl named Ember Jean into the world with husband Jeremy on September 10?!? Where the heck are all the Ember Jean photos we expected to see? Perhaps spoiled by the influx of adorable pictures Tori and Zach Roloff share on a constant basis of their newborn son, fans of his TLC series have been clamoring for more snapshots of the second Roloff baby of the last few months. Sneaking out in the middle of the night to make sure Ember Jean had her own personal Welcome home sign…. grandpa Roloff style. – Matt Roloff on Facebook. In a new Facebook post, however, patriarch Matt Roloff assures followers that images are on the way. This is just a pretty big adjustment period for Audrey and Jeremy. “Miss Ember Jean…the most perfect package life can deliver,” Matt wrote, adding of his second grandchild: “She’s a bit shy now as mom and dad get her settled into her normal daily routine but you all are going love the result. “This little baby is a big-time star, just wait and see.” Hey, of course. We’ll wait a very long time; whatever it takes until Jeremy and Audrey feel comfortable. There’s truly nothing in life like getting used to caring for a tiny human being 24 hours per day, seven days a week. Audrey was over a week late with her delivery, but everyone appears to be nice and healthy. “Spent the morning hanging out with Jackson and Ember on her first ever visit to the farm,” added Matt on Facebook on Sunday afternoon. The new season of Little People, Big World is expected to focus extensively on Audrey, Jeremy and their path to parenthood. Just a few days after becoming a mother, Audrey shared the following note on Instagram: Natural labor was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but holding our baby for the first time was undeniably the most empowering and rewarding moment of my life. She continued: Of course, I wrote “always more” on my hand when I went into labor, but never have these words carried more meaning. The whole time I just kept reminding myself of the MORE that was within me through Christ – that I could keep enduring, surrendering, trusting, and pushing more and more because of Christ’s strength within me. And she concluded: Sweet little Ember, may you always be a light in the darkness, glowing in all you do, enduring, feirce, and hard to extinguish. May you always believe in the more that is within you, and when stoked and kindled by your Creator – may you be able to burn and glow even MORE than you ever could on you own. We love you so much Ember Jean Roloff. Thank you for making us “mom and dad.” Pretty darn sweet, right? “So much to say, but for now we’re resting at home soaking In the present – honored that we’ve been entrusted with this little life,” Jeremy has also written. These two should take all the time they need. This is a unique period of their life and they should soak up every nanosecond. We wish them nothing but the very best! MJ wanted to have her first child, and she wanted to shout it from the rooftops after downing ten shots while renovating her home. When Shahs of Sunset Season 6 Episode 10 got underway, MJ wanted to make sure her home was finally completed, and she felt like her designer would be integral to completing all of it promptly. Reza showed up and said that the whole group would come together to get the painting completed and that’s exactly what happened. Everyone aside from Asa was invited to help out with the big event, and everyone wanted to know why Asa was not asked. MJ opened up about her lies and that it was time for her to move on from Asa and all of her crazy drama. Vida showed up and started throwing shade at Tommy because she still thought he was the wrong man for her daughter and that he was not up to the challenge of being a father. This sent the drink-fueled renovation efforts into overdrive. MJ started bawling like a child when her mother refused to take $100,000 from her for retirement. MJ thought it was disrespectful, but if she really had that amount of money to give away, you would think she would have had decorators in to deal with all of the paint. Before long, MJ had a go at Tommy for saying he felt like they were not ready to have a child because there was still a lot of growing up to come. MJ yelled that she knows men who would knock her up in thirty minutes, so she clearly had an idea that Tommy was going to bail at the last minute. Destiney managed to get through to Tommy, and he revealed that he was worried about the child growing up without a parent. If you watch Shahs of Sunset online , you will know that his mother died of cancer when he was thirteen. In the end, MJ essentially dumped him and said she was going to get knocked up. It was embarrassing, but should we have expected anything other than this to happen? Meanwhile, Shervin dropped the bomb that he cheated on Annalise multiple times and his friends were so mad. They were concerned that Annalise was moving across the world to be with him. He seemed to think the fact that she was on another continent while it happened made it okay, but it most definitely did not. Annalise should run and never look back. MJ will likely drop the truth to her because she cannot seem to keep her mouth shut about anything these days. Finally, Mike got some traction with his shoes for toddlers. Shoe Palace agreed to stock them in their stores on a trial basis, and he was ecstatic. What did you think of all the drama? Sound off below! Shahs of Sunset airs Sundays on Bravo!
