In 2014—the now 17-year-old—became the first girl to pitch a shutout in Little League World Series history while playing for the Philadelphia-based Taney Youth Baseball Association. Her accomplishments landed her a spot on the cover of Sports Illustrated ; making her the first Little League player to grace the front cover. Davis has also received several accolades for her achievements, including an award from Sports Illustrated Kids and being featured on ESPNW’s Impact 25 list. She was also named Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year in 2014. Although the softball season is months away, fans are excited for the Springside Chestnut Hill Academy graduate to kick off her collegiate athletic career. For Davis, Hampton feels like home. “The girls on the team are amazing. The coaches are amazing,” she said in an interview with The Undefeated . “It just kind of felt like home, which is what you look for in a school. Everything felt right. Since I’m spending my next four years there, I have to be comfortable.” During the 2019 softball season, the Hampton Pirates finished with a 23-25 record. Hampton University’s head softball coach Angela Nicholson is excited to have Davis on the team. “She is an outstanding athlete who just loves to compete no matter what sport it is,” she told the NCAA .  “Davis is great at everything and her hands up the middle are second to none.  She is very dynamic in her movements, has a smooth transfer and just a strong knack for the game.” SEE ALSO: HBCU World Series Aims To Diversify College Baseball Little League Phenom Mo’ne Davis Headed To Hampton University [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3880863″ overlay=”true”]

Joe Biden Senselessly Suggested ‘Civility’Toward Segregationists & The Innanet Dragged Him To The CLUELESS Chasm

Source: W.Wade/WENN / WENN Joe Biden Dragged For Suggesting Civil Working Relationship With Segregationists Joe Biden got BLASTED after he suggested the nation work toward a “civil” relationship with segregationists this week. According to NPR , he told donors at a fundraiser in NY Tuesday night: “I was in a caucus with James O. Eastland,” Biden said, according to a pool report. “He never called me ‘boy’; he always called me ‘son.’ ” “Well, guess what? At least there was some civility,” Biden said, also pointing to a working relationship he forged with Georgia Sen. Herman Talmadge, another segregationist Democrat. “We got things done. We didn’t agree on much of anything. We got things done. We got it finished. But today, you look at the other side and you’re the enemy. Not the opposition, the enemy. We don’t talk to each other anymore.” Is dude serious?? New Jersey senator Cory Booker wasted no time responding… “You don’t joke about calling black men ‘boys,’ ” New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, one of three black Democratic candidates for president, said in a statement Wednesday. “Vice President Biden’s relationships with proud segregationists are not the model for how we make America a safer and more inclusive place for black people, and for everyone. I have to tell Vice President Biden, as someone I respect, that he is wrong for using his relationships with Eastland and Talmadge as examples of how to bring our country together.” California senator Kamala Harris agreed that what Biden said was absolutely wrong… California Sen. Kamala Harris told reporters at the Capitol, “I have a great deal of respect for Vice President Biden. He’s done very good work, and he has served our country in a very noble way. But to coddle the reputations of segregationists, of people who if they had their way I would literally not be standing here as a member of the United States Senate, is, I think, it’s just misinformed and it’s wrong.” Harris declined to say whether Biden should apologize for the comments. As for Uncle Joe himself, he’s saying that Cory should apologize to him. “There’s not a racist bone in my body,” said Biden. GirlTrek Movement Inspires Black Women To Take Charge Of Their Health

T wo health advocates teamed up for the creation of a movement designed to empower Black women and girls to take charge of their health. For the past 8 years the nonprofit organization—dubbed GirlTrek—has been inspiring individuals to heal their bodies and reclaim their communities one step at a time, CNN reported. Black women start a walking movement to battle the obesity epidemic https://t.co/YIQjyxoiFU — Philadelphia Tribune (@PhillyTrib) May 22, 2019 The collective was created by T. Morgan Dixon and Vanessa Garrison . Cognizant of the racial health disparities impacting Black women the two friends, who met in college, were determined to create a platform that promoted health, wellness, and self-care. For Dixon and Garrison, the mission behind GirlTrek was personal. They wanted to break generational cycles and change the narrative surrounding Black women and wellness. “It wasn’t because we were walking enthusiasts or because we love to walk. When we started we were just trying to save our own lives,” Dixon told CNN. “How do we not fall in these pitfalls that our mothers and our aunts and our grandmothers have fallen into? Eighty percent of us are overweight and carrying that weight is killing us now at disproportionate levels. We can’t do it anymore. We can’t carry it anymore.” What started as a walking challenge for family and friends quickly grew into a national movement where over 170,00 women are walking with groups across the country with the assistance of 1,000 organizers. The mission goes far beyond getting fit. Many of the walks are inspired by civil rights pioneers and are hosted to spread awareness about issues impacting the Black community. The walks have fostered conversations amongst Black women about playing a role in the redevelopment of their communities. “We know that when Black women walk, things change, and that we walk in the footsteps of that legacy,” said Garrison. GirlTrek is on a mission to have 1 million women pledge to walk 30 minutes a day by 2020. SEE ALSO: Taraji P. #BlackGirlMagic: Graduate Receives Master’s Degree, Law Degree In Same Week

T his graduation season has been a busy one for Ashley Williams . According to Because of Them We Can , Williams graced two graduation stages within the same week; receiving her master’s degree and a law degree from two different universities. Black Girl Magic: She received her master’s degree and law degree in the same week from two different universities! https://t.co/MNdu06VuCS — #becauseofthemwecan (@Becauseofthem) May 26, 2019 Williams, who has a passion for political advocacy and civic engagement, earned a master’s degree in Political Management from George Washington University. Two days after the Washington, D.C.-based commencement ceremony she traveled to Philadelphia to receive her JD from the University of Pennsylvania. She started her journey at George Washington University in 2015. The political management program allowed her to take online courses and Williams saw it as the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the virtual option and pursue another degree. She later applied and was accepted into the University of Pennsylvania Law School. She pursued both degrees all while serving as a Special Advisor and Director of Special Projects at the State Department. She also studied abroad in Tokyo. Williams’ accomplishments didn’t come easy. She had to continually readjust her schedule and priorities to find a balance between being in both programs. “A lot of people wondered why I continued with my master’s after starting law school, but both stimulated my mind in different ways. I was incredibly fortunate to be able to do both, but it did require sacrifice and discipline,” she said. “During my first year of school, I stopped my Master’s program so I could focus on law full time. The summer following my first year, I resumed my Master’s program and simultaneously did law and my Master’s until I completed my Master’s in December of 2018—which I did while I was studying abroad in Tokyo.” She hopes that her story will encourage others to stop limiting themselves and be unapologetic about accomplishing their goals. Williams is the epitome of #BlackGirlMagic.
