So Sad: 10% Of NYC Public School Kids Are Reportedly Homeless — Blame Gentrification?

(Image source/getty images) Homelessness In NYC Public Schools Are Reportedly At A High A The New York Times  report is shining a light on the realities of 10% of all public school kids, they’re homeless. NYT says one out of every 10 students lived in temporary housing during the last school year. That means about one out of every 10 students in New York City will sleep in a homeless shelter or in the homes of relatives. That’s the highest rate of homeless students the city has ever seen. This is sad because homeless students tend to struggle academically: Reportedly, in the 2015-16 school year, just 12 percent of students living in shelters passed the state math exam, and 15 percent passed English. New York City has one of the highest populations of homeless students of any big city in America. About 5 percent of students in Chicago’s public schools were homeless last year, and just above 3 percent of Los Angeles’ students were homeless in 2016. There are about 1.1 million children in the city’s public schools in total. That means over 100,000 kids have no real homes to call their own. They said close to 38,000 homeless students lived in a shelter last year, down slightly from the previous year; the rest stayed with relatives while their families looked for permanent housing. Staggering, but who is the blame? The rent in NYC is HIGH and nearly impossible for someone making a median wage because of gentrification. NYC is supposed to be a “philanthropic” city, and NO ONE (wealthy) is offering to help keep these kids in healthy, consistent living conditions. Any solutions? Thoughts?

Barry-O Admits To Bustin’ His Gun On The Regular: “I Go Shooting All The Time”

President Obama Talks About His Love Of Skeet Shooting Via DailyMail Obama has attempted to pacify jittery gun-owners by talking about his love of clay pigeon shooting. The President’s words will be seen as an attempt to reassure conservative voters who are angry about his plans to ban assault weapons as part of a drastic overhaul of gun laws. In a soon-to-be published interview with The New Republic, President Obama is asked whether he has ever fired a gun. He said: ‘Yes, in fact, up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time.’ He added: ‘Not the girls, but oftentimes guests of mine go up there. And I have a profound respect for the traditions of hunting that trace back in this country for generations. ‘And I think those who dismiss that out of hand make a big mistake.’ The POTUS explains why his use of firearms and why he feels that the gun control issue has 2 valid sides. ‘Part of being able to move this forward,’ President Obama says, ‘is understanding the reality of guns in urban areas are very different from the realities of guns in rural areas.’… ‘If you grew up and your dad gave you a hunting rifle when you were ten,’ the president said, ‘and that became part of your family’s traditions, you can see why you’d be pretty protective of that.’ Obama referred to the gap between urban and rural views on gun ownership as ‘part of the biggest task over the next several months’ in his fight for public support of his assault weapons ban. ‘And that’ he says, ‘means that advocates of gun control have to do a little more listening than they do sometimes.’ Does Barry’s love of blam-blammin’ his cannon at clay pigeons make him a hypocrite in regards to wanting to enforce tougher gun laws? Help ban crush videos in the US

Crush videos, among other “fetish videos,” feature small live animals, such as kittens, puppies, mice and bunnies, being slowly tortured in the most horrific ways imaginable; including being burnt alive, cut with pruning sheers, nailed to the floor, skinned alive, beaten, stabbed, and having their limbs broken. All of these videos share a common theme: the animals are incrementally crushed by a woman in high heels. Most people view these materials for “sexual gratification”, but these videos are becoming increasingly popular just for their shock value alone. The crush fetish can be also linked to “paraphernalia,” which is an atypical sexual arousal to nonhuman objects and humans alike being caused physical distress. Crush videos are becoming increasingly popular across America, and will escalate to epidemic proportions due to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling to legalize them. It’s not hard to find such sites on the Internet with any search engine-keep in mind it’s now perfectly legal to download and watch. Minors can access these materials with a click of a button. If The Supreme Court says, “Okay fine, It’s free speech,” please first examine the damage it causes both human and nonhuman lives, and society as a whole. Freedom of speech has its limits when it places a society in danger, such as the ban on child pornography as it leads to violence of children. Films that exploit, torture, and kill animals for entertainment purposes also puts society in danger, for it is destructive by inciting violent and antisocial behavior, thereby endangering our citizens. Adults showing their own children these videos can cause emotional damage and lead to Antisocial Personality Disorders. This is not only considered child abuse, but is one of the leading disorders found in serial killers. While there are many factors that contribute to someone becoming a serial killer, the one constant they share is animal abuse. In short, there is nothing socially redeeming about “crush videos” and animal torture videos when used for entertainment and financial purposes. However, relating to educational or for political and sociological purposes, this should be the exception – such as speaking against, or educating the public about the realities of dog fighting or other issues and how it affects a society, such as the making of a violent criminal or serial killer. M.I.A.’s new music video for ‘Born Free’

This is the new M.I.A.video, for her song Born Free. (It's NSFW for graphic violence and nudity.) This video portrays a dystopian world where redheads are beaten and executed for being gingers. (but, GINGERS DO HAVE SOULS!!) Redheads are obviously supposed to represent historically oppressed peoples. A white American audience, is supposed to think: “Oh yeah, this isn't that far from the realities of real people across the globe.” added by: joshuaheller
