Nicki Minaj Calls ‘Roman In Moscow’ A ‘Teaser’

‘It’s the wackest thing on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, ‘ Nicki tells MTV News of sassy new single. By Christina Garibaldi Nicki Minaj at the Billboard Women in Music event on Friday Photo: D. Dipasupil/FilmMagic NEW YORK — All the Barbies get ready, Roman is back! Nicki Minaj released “Roman in Moscow” on Friday (December 2), the first track off her sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. On the brand-new, hard-hitting single, Minaj’s foul-mouthed alter ego Roman Zolanski spits out insults in his rapid-fire flow. It seems safe to say that Roman is fully recharged, and perhaps even taking shots at Nicki’s rival Lil’ Kim . “I told you, bitch, last year / I’m a rap-bitch nightmare / That’s why I call you Buzz Lightyear,” Roman says. ” ‘Cause by the time you start buzzin’, bitch, you gonna have white hair!” MTV News caught up with Minaj at the Billboard Women in Music event on Friday afternoon and she talked to us about the track. ” ‘Roman in Moscow is like a teaser to Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, which will drop on Valentine’s Day,” Minaj said. “When I say it’s a teaser, it’s like a trailer to the movie, it’s like setting the stage and I just wanted to touch the surface. It’s the wackest thing on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. ” On the song, Roman is fired up and wreaking havoc all over Moscow. “Well, he was there [in Moscow] secretly because [alter ego] Martha wanted him to go there, so they put him in this thing with monks and nuns; they were trying to rehabilitate him,” Minaj explained. “But I can’t tell exactly what happened, you’ll just see it in the video format, but let’s just say he got out of there.” Minaj added that the video for “Roman in Moscow” “will be shot real soon.” The MC is also celebrating her four 2012 Grammy nominations, including one for Best New Artist . Nicki Minaj Says Her Favorite Part Of ‘Moment 4 Life’ Video Was Acting

Femcee plays three characters, including fairy godmother Martha. By Jayson Rodriguez Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News There was the kiss and there were the outfits, but when it comes to the “Moment 4 Life” video , Nicki Minaj said the best part of the experience for her was the acting. “It’s my favorite part of the video,” she told MTV News during an exclusive interview after the clip premiered on MTV. The animated MC pulled triple duty, playing herself, her fairy godmother and a charmed version of herself who scored a date with Drake. But the Lil Wayne prot

In new video, Nicki reveals her true self — in diamond stilettos. By James Montgomery Nicki Minaj in the “Moment 4 Life” video Photo: Cash Money/Universal Nicki Minaj has, over the course of several videos, packaged herself as a DayGlo Geisha girl, a candy-colored “Star Blazers” extra, a spurned, stemware-smashing significant other, and, of course, a pink-clad paramilitary leader (to name just a few). So it’s no surprise that, nearly two years since she burst onto the scene, we still have absolutely no idea who she really is. Though, with the premiere of her “Moment 4 Life” video, we may finally be close to figuring it out. Ostensibly an updated take on fairy tales , both literal (“Cinderella”) and historical (Marie Antoinette), the video is gilded, glamorous and, above all, fantastical, with visits by fairy godmothers, glass (or, in this case, diamond) slippers, diaphanous gowns and, of course, a handsome prince (that would be Drake). But it’s also slightly silly — Nicki’s opening scene opposite herself as the fairy godmother — who would like it to be known that her name is “Martha” — is incredibly fabulous, a tad bit crazy and thoroughly over-the-top too. And, really, Minaj is all those things. So it’s not exactly a stretch to call “Moment 4 Life” the most Nicki Minaj video of all time. It takes basically every aspect of her personality — the fashionista, the glamazon, the princess, the badass, the cartoon character, the girly girl — and crams them together into one very shiny package. And then it wraps that package with nods to her past (the British accent, the mention of her Roman Zolanski alter-ego, the consummation of her Twit-lationship with Drake ) for good measure. The end result is perhaps the most complete portrait of Minaj to date. In “Moment,” she doesn’t wear a single samurai getup or toss so much as a goblet at her a–hole boyfriend, mostly because she doesn’t need to (and also because Drake doesn’t deserve that kind of treatment). There are very few silly wigs and nary a stitch of Spandex to be seen anywhere. It is basically our first glimpse at the real Nicki: a young woman who is more than just the sum of her parts, even if those parts are pretty interesting. In that regard, with her new video, Nicki has not only answered the identity question, but she’s done so while wearing diamond stilettos: “I am everything you thought I was,” she says. “And then some.” It’s a moment 4 life, indeed. J. Cole Is A Top-Five Finalist For ‘Hottest Breakthrough MC Of 2010’!

Winner will be revealed on MTV2’s ‘Sucker Free Summit’ Sunday at noon. By Shaheem Reid J. Cole Photo: Roc Nation It is here: As promised, the top-five vote-getters in our poll for “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” will be revealed this week. These are the artists you guys voted for over the past month, and we can’t express enough how overwhelmed we were by your participation in this project. More than 200,000 votes came in, and they were tallied as of midnight Friday. Keep in mind, the unveiling of the names this week are the top five, but in no particular order. The winner of the “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010,” as voted on by the MTV News audience, will be revealed Sunday (July 25) at noon on the “Sucker Free Summit.” Chosen One: J. Cole Rising in the Ranks : Jermaine Cole was focused, then lost it, and now his vision is as lucid as ever. The 25-year-old rapper was no ordinary jock in high school, back in his hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Just like fans applaud him when he performs concerts, J. was highly acclaimed by his high school teachers for his academia. Pretty soon, the students began to love him as well. He cut his teeth in freestyle ciphers at football games. Rather than accepting a scholarship locally, he wanted to kill two birds with one stone: go to the media mecca of New York City to pursue music while gaining higher education at the esteemed St. John’s University. But the allure of the bright lights and all the other trappings of the big city put J. in a chokehold. His first two years in school, he partied and chased girls, but he finally snapped out of his haze his junior year, graduating magna cum laude. Cole gained the following he has now by showing off his ever-evolving lyricism with the mixtapes The Come Up and The Warm Up. In between those projects, Cole signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. Like Kanye West, Cole was first introduced to Jay as a producer, but Hov quickly discovered J.’s blue-chip verbal acumen. Cole got the ultimate co-sign, appearing on Jigga’s “A Star Is Born” from Blueprint 3 last year. Now with “Who Dat” rising as the first look from his still-untitled debut LP, the fans are looking at Cole as one to crack the mainstream hard any minute. Early Insight : “Anything I do, whether it’s a freestyle I drop or [a song], man, I feel like I got a lot to prove — not just to people, but to myself,” Cole said. “I’ve been wanting this a long time. I didn’t want to just get a deal. I didn’t want to just put out an album. I want to be here for a long time. I’ve got big goals and big dreams, even beyond where I’m at right now.” Blistering Ballistics : “The mind state of a winner/ When you thinkin’ bout summertime/ I’m thinkin’ ’bout the winter/ When you thinkin’ ’bout breakfast/ I’m heatin’ up my dinner/ I was plottin’ this moment back when y’all was ridin’ spinners/ Now I’m a menace/ God as my witness, with this pen I’m insane, yup/ Hungry like the n—a who ain’t got the taste of fame yet/ Cloud told me, ‘Ain’t you Roc? Well, where the f— yo chain at?’ ” — from Cole’s “Who Dat” Forecast : Cole hasn’t hit the home run smash out of the park yet, but he’s laying the all-too-essential groundwork to establish himself as not just at the top of his weight class as far as lyricism goes, but his live shows have displayed his potential to be one of the great performers in the coming years. Win, lose or draw with his album, Cole is banking on himself. He says there will be no features on his debut, because he has too much to say. MTV News will be rolling out the top-five candidates for “Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010” all week — with the winner being revealed on MTV2’s “Sucker Free Summit” on Sunday at noon!
