Slaughterhouse To Release Single By December, Says Royce Da 5’9"

‘Hopefully, we’ll have a single out by the end of the year, if not the album,’ Royce tells ‘RapFix Live.’ By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Sway Calloway Royce Da 5’9″ Photo: MTV News With Kanye West and Jay-Z’s Watch the Throne in pop-up stores and a joint Drake and Lil Wayne album on the horizon, hip-hop collaborations are the latest buzz topic. A four-man collective that should be in the discussion is Slaughterhouse, consisting of Crooked I, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and recent MTV “RapFix Live” guest Royce Da 5’9″ . Royce revealed on RapFix that the next Slaughterhouse album — their eponymous debut dropped in 2009 — may arrive by year’s end. “Very soon, very soon,” Royce said when asked about the next Slaughterhouse project’s status. “We’re working on the project right now. We’re actually going to Atlanta on Thursday [August 11]. All the guys, we’re all getting together and going in with some heavy-hitting producers. Hopefully, we’ll have a single out by the end of the year, if not the album.” At the top of the year, the supergroup of veteran MCs signed a recording deal with Eminem’s Shady Records . Four distinct personalities and voices could mean inevitable dissension, but Nickel Nine insists that is far from the case. He detailed how one particular difference of opinion among the group was mediated. “Never that,” Royce said. “The last discussion we had where people didn’t agree — it wasn’t an argument, but it was just us talking — was where we were going to record at because the last two times was in Detroit. I never want to make them feel like they have to come to Detroit just because me and Marshall [Eminem] are there. So I’m always willing to compromise in that way. Crooked wanted to go and take advantage of having Marshall in our corner. Joey wanted a change of environment — he wants to go to Atlanta. Joell was just in the middle. That’s what happens when you have four different people. We just got on the phone and it ended up being Atlanta. We take votes, we do everything fair.” Finally, Royce assured fans that new music is definitely on the way, saying, “It’ll at least be a single, I guarantee you that,” by December. “Because we got one right now that I think can go. I think it can be the first thing we can go out there with,” he added. Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame And Royce Da 5’9″ Related Artists Royce Da 5’9″ Slaughterhouse

Eminem And Royce Weren’t ‘Focused’ On Hitting #1 — But They Did

‘I knew it had the potential,’ Royce Da 5’9″ tells MTV News after Bad Meets Evil’s Hell: The Sequel tops Billboard albums chart. By Rob Markman Royce Da 5’9″ and Eminem Photo: MTV News Eminem should be used to the #1 spot by now, but it’s all new to partner-in-rhyme Royce Da 5’9″. On Wednesday, Em and Royce’s Bad Meets Evil EP , Hell: The Sequel, topped the Billboard albums chart, selling almost 171,000 copies in its first week, making it Nickel Nine’s first time in the top spot. “You know I ain’t never sold no records,” Royce said to MTV News, laughing. “I knew it had the potential. I just really was more focused on the whole ‘critically acclaimed’ thing, and I think we achieved that. I’m only hearing good things about how people feel about the album.” From the onset, both Royce and Em stated that Hell: The Sequel wasn’t made with commercial aspirations. Instead, the duo — who first released an independent single (featuring “Scary Movies,” ‘Nuthin’ to Do” and “I’m King”) in 1999 — looked to rekindle the lyrical chemistry that they harnessed 12 years ago. “I think it’s great for an artist of Eminem’s stature to do a project like this, especially with a dude like me,” Royce reinforced. “And to only focus on lyrics and not worry about performance or radio or nothing like that. To go in there spitting, I think, is refreshing to hip-hop.” Though radio wasn’t the goal, Royce remains optimistic that the EP’s next single, “Lighters,” which features Bruno Mars, will ensure the continued success of Hell: The Sequel. “I definitely think that ‘Lighters’ is gonna be the record that is gonna carry the sales into something even bigger than what the first week was. Because of a record like ‘Lighters’ and what it’s doing on radio right now, the first-week sales aren’t even an indicator of where we’re going to end up after we close up with this project,” he said. Tami Roman: “As Far As I’m Concerned Meeka Is A Liar”

See the rest here:

The newest episode of VH1′s “Basketball Wives” debuted last night and just in case you missed it, I’ve gathered a few highlights of the most drama-filled moments. First up, Tami and Jennifer meet up at Jen’s new apartment and  catch up on recent events, and how they think Evelyn should go about the “Non-muthaf*cking Factor” t-shirt issue that she is trying to cash in on. Meanwhile, Meeka continues to contradict herself; one moment she’s saying how “real” she is and smiling in Royce’s face and the next instant dragging her through the dirt because of her past history in the NBA. Evelyn and Suzie are back friends again and Royce is skeptical of them reviving their old friendship, while Suzie plays both sides of the fence. Also, although Jennifer and Eric Williams are separated, they are STILL legally married. Evelyn attempts to get Jennifer to consider online dating, while Evelyn continues to overuse the hell out of her “Non-Muthaf*cking Factor” phrase. The final highlight was when Tami and Royce sat Meeka down and called her out on her contradictions and Tami checks her about her hand gestures in her face. Joe Budden Says Thought Of Slaughterhouse/ Eminem Deal Is ‘Scary’

‘It’s scary to even fathom being on a record with Eminem or Royce or Crook or Joell,’ MC tells Sway on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Joe Budden Photo: Rich Sancho/ MTV News New Jersey-bred rapper Joe Budden’s acclaimed Mood Muzik series and the Slaughterhouse project have earned him a rep for his lyrical skills. But in spite of his credentials, Budden said lining up next to esteemed MCs is a nerve-racking experience. When pressed about his group Slaughterhouse (Budden, Royce Da 5’9″, Crooked I and Joell Ortiz) potentially signing a deal with Eminem, Budden explained how daunting that thought is for him. “It’s scary to even fathom being on a record with Eminem or Royce or Crook or Joell,” he told Sway during his appearance on “RapFix Live.” “Just four guys who, when they wanna [black out they can].” He compared the theoretical lineup to a real experience he had on his recently released Mood Muzik 4: A Turn 4 the Worst. The track “Remember the Titans” featured Lloyd Banks, Fabolous, and Royce. They announced the lineup prior to recording and releasing the song online. Fans had plenty of comments, and one in particular caused Royce to have one of those moments Budden fears. “I’ve rapped with Fab a bunch of times,” Budden said. “It was my first time getting with Lloyd Banks. And I always rap with Royce, so I always know what I’m getting. But a bunch of fans said something that really ticked Royce off: You don’t belong on that song. And they seemed to think it was pretty funny. In my head, I’m thinking, Oh my god, Why are you making this incredible, incredible MC angry, to where now he has a point to prove? So, Royce goes on there and tore that beat apart just like I knew he would. But that whole thing is scary to me.” Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With Joe Budden Related Artists Joe Budden Eminem

Royce Da 5’9" Hopes To ‘Showcase’ His Personality On New Mixtape

‘People listen to me and think I’m always so serious,’ he tells Mixtape Daily of fans’ misperceptions. By Shaheem Reid Royce Da 5’9 Photo: MTV News Don’t Sleep: Necessary Notables Mixtape : The Bar Exam 3: The Most Interesting Man in the World Headliners : Royce Da 5’9″ and DJ Whoo Kid Key Cameos : Kid Vishis on “Go Hard Pt. 1” and “Pt. 2,” Black Milk and Elzhi on “Real Hip-Hop” and Slaughterhouse on “Beamer, Benz or Bentley (ShadyMegaMix)” Essential Info : Royce Da 5’9″ has been known to indulge in a drink or two at times, but not even he could have guessed that he would be influenced by Dos Equis. The beer’s “Most Interesting Man in the World” ad campaign served as a catalyst for his new mixtape. “I was gonna call it Bar Exam 3: Multiple Personalities, ” Royce explained. “It shows different sides to me. Then I ran across that intro [of ‘The Most Interesting Man in the World’] on the Net. I just thought the sh– was hilarious. So it’s like I just switched up at the end. I called it that because I wanted to use those skits. I thought those skits were hilarious. It’s just that cut-and-dried.” 5’9″ kept the comedy going on a record called “I Hate Your Pants.” He sings — yes, sings — about his disdain for trousers that are too tight. “With this mixtape, I was trying to showcase my personality more,” Royce said. “People listen to me and think I’m always so serious, when actually I’m the exact opposite. I’m always joking around and drinking and having fun. I was trying to bring that across in this. I think I nailed that in ‘I Hate Your Pants.’ That’s an ongoing joke in the studio, about skinny jeans. We actually got something on wax that showed that. I did it quick. Two eight-bar verses and the hook. It took me longer to make the beat.” “Taxi Driver” is a conceptual track, on which the Detroit mic king is behind the wheel and alone with his thoughts until he picks up two passengers. “It’s a song I did a long time ago,” he explained. “I wanted to put it on The Bar Exam, because I felt it didn’t get the light it deserved. It’s like I’m driving in a taxi. I got two passengers in the car. One of the passengers is Tupac, one is Biggie. I drop ‘Pac off at the place he got killed. I drop Biggie at the place he got killed. Basically, we lost hip-hop when we lost these two. One of them is named ‘Hip’ and one is named ‘Hop.’ But it’s Biggie and ‘Pac.” Royce even mimics the two legends’ voices and deliveries on the record as he raps from their perspective. On “187 (Response),” Royce disses Saigon, responding to an interview from last year where Sai said Slaughterhouse could not make records. “I don’t have a problem with him,” Royce said of Saigon. “He just sparked a competitive nerve in me. It made me wanna compete. He said, ‘Them n—as can’t write no record.’ If you feel free enough to speak on somebody like that, I feel he should take that on the chin. I don’t feel it should be some kind of backlash. He said something, and I said something. I’m totally prepared to leave it right there.” Royce also said his record aimed at Saigon has nothing to do with Sai’s past problems with Joe Budden. “Joey is my man,” he said. “I make it my business to stay outta the sh– he has going on. Me and Saigon was cool. I was cool with Saigon before I got cool with Joey.” Royce said Slaughterhouse’s signing with Shady Records has been stuck in a web of red tape, but the deal is looking like it should be finalized in a matter of weeks. As for Royce’s solo LP, he’s not sure if that will be in the cards for Shady as well.
