San Fransisco 49ers Cut Ray McDonald Over Assault Accusations

SMH… San Fransisco 49ers Cut Ray McDonald Over Assault Accusations In the wake of recent high profile cases involving football players , the league is really cracking down on athletes behaving badly . The most recent example is Ray McDonald, who has now been released from the San Fransisco 49ers after getting into hot water one too many times. Via NYpost : Defensive lineman Ray McDonald was released Wednesday by the San Francisco 49ers amid an investigation by San Jose police into McDonald on suspicion of sexual assault. San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said he informed McDonald and his agent by phone at 11:30 a.m. PST that the defender is “terminated.” “This is a situation that we can all learn from,” he said. Baalke said CEO Jed York and coach Jim Harbaugh also were involved in the decision. “We expect a lot from our players, hold them accountable for their actions,” Baalke said. Baalke said the 49ers notified the NFL office of the allegations against McDonald, saying, “This is a team decision.” San Jose police said Wednesday that they are investigating McDonald on suspicion of sexual assault. Sgt. Heather Randol said detectives searched McDonald’s San Jose home. Randol said an area hospital notified police late Tuesday night that a woman was seeking treatment. “The victim alleged she was possibly sexually assaulted a day prior,” Randol said. “Based on preliminary investigation, detectives secured a search warrant and served it at the alleged suspect’s residence in San Jose.” Randol didn’t immediately respond to follow up questions seeking to clarify the reference to the alleged victim saying she was “possibly sexually assaulted.” No arrests have been made or charges filed. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league is “looking into” the case. This is the second time in recent months that McDonald has been the subject of a police investigation. “This is about a pattern of poor decision making,” Baalke said. Harbaugh notified the players. What do you think Bossip Fam? Is the team making the right decision this time around? NYposr via AP

Mark Cuban Apologizes to Family of Trayvon Martin, Stands by Controversial Remarks

Mark Cuban is not backing down. Speaking to Inc. magazine about the racist comment made by Donald Sterling over the past few weeks, along with the decision by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to ban the 80-year old for life , the Dallas Mavericks owner said the league is setting a dangerous precedent. Does it really want to take action against executives for their words and thoughts? “We’re all prejudiced in one way or another,” Cuban said. “If I see a black kid in a hoodie and it’s late at night, I’m walking to the other side of the street. “And if on that side of the street, there’s a guy that has tattoos all over his face – white guy, bald head, tattoos everywhere – I’m walking back to the other side of the street. ” The Shark Tank star continued: “And the list goes on of stereotypes that we all live up to and are fearful of. So in my businesses, I try not to be hypocritical. I know that I’m not perfect. I know that I live in a glass house, and it’s not appropriate for me to throw stones.” Not long after making these comments, Cuban realized the mistake he made in using the hoodie example, considering Florida teenager Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman in 2012. Zimmerman was found not guilty of murder after becoming suspicious of Martin – who was walking in his neighborhood while wearing a hooded sweatshirt – and then shooting him during a scuffle. “P/1: In hindsight I should have used different examples. I didn’t consider the Trayvon Martin family, and I apologize to them for that,” Cuban Tweeted last night. But aside from that apology, Cuban said he stands bu the “words and substance of the interview.” “I think that helping people improve their lives, helping people engage with people they may fear or may not understand,” he wrote. “And helping people realize that while we all may have our prejudices and bigotries.” Concluded the billionaire: “we have to learn that it’s an issue that we have to control, that it’s part of my responsibility as an entrepreneur to try to solve it.”

Sorry Colts Fans: Peyton Manning Probably Won’t Be Playing Football This Season

Well, so much for that “biggest paycheck of the season” situation. Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning, the NFL’s only four-time most valuable player, underwent another neck surgery Thursday and could sit out the entire season and possibly more. It was the third neck procedure in 19 months for Manning, 35, who has missed only one play because of injury in 14 seasons. The development is probably crippling to the Colts, who scrambled to sign veteran Kerry Collins two weeks ago and will start him Sunday at Houston. In a team statement, the Colts called the procedure — anterior cervical fusion surgery — “uneventful” but said rehabilitation from it is “typically an involved process” and did not give a timetable for his return. The Colts plan to keep him on the active roster “until we have a clear picture of his recovery process.” Before the team announced the surgery had taken place, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league had been monitoring the situation. “Peyton isn’t just a great football player, he’s a great man,” Goodell said. “He’s done all the right things on and off the field. “I’ve been in touch with [the Colts]. I can’t do anything but hope that he gets better quick and gets to a full recovery.” The procedure was to treat nerve problems that lingered after Manning’s surgery May 23, and the quarterback reportedly had hit a plateau in regaining strength in his triceps. Anterior fusion surgery involves making an incision in the front of the neck, removing the disk tissue between the vertebrae and replacing it with a plastic-like spacer that causes the neighboring vertebrae to fuse together. Recovery time for such an operation can take at least eight to 10 weeks, and sometimes requires a year or more. “With professional football players, the neck has to be fully back to strength and healed,” said Dr. Rick Delamarter, medical director of the spine program at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles. “Even three months could be rushing it.” Delamarter, who has not treated Manning but has performed neck operations on many NFL players and other professional athletes, said there’s a possibility the Colts could have their star quarterback back by late December or January, but added: “I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they decide to keep him out for the year.” It’s not all bad news though: experts don’t see any reason why this condition and surgery should end Peyton’s career.
