Yelawolf Drops ‘Hard White’ Remix With T.I., Slaughterhouse

‘In the Shady crew first, for me, it’s not to be the best because it ain’t gonna happen,’ Wolf tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Yelawolf Photo: MTV News The Shady Records cipher at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards was one of the year’s best hip-hop moments. YelaWolf , Slaughterhouse and Eminem dropped some of the most densely packed rhymes in recent memory. Now, with his newly released remix of “Hard White,” Gadsden, Alabama’s Wolf aims to recapture some of that magic. While Em isn’t present, T.I. ., Crooked I, Royce Da 5’9,” Joell Ortiz and Joe Budden all hold it down lyrically alongside Yela. And just like the Shady Cypher, picking a standout verse on the track could be difficult. T.I. sets it off with his usual swagger as Yela picks up with a vivid story rhyme that details a high-school shooting. Crooked, Royce, Joell and Budden all follow with tightly woven verses, boasting of their rap supremacy — much like the Shady crew did in the BET cipher. “The BET cipher, yeah, we killed it,” Wolf told MTV News last week. “That was a huge day for me, going up to Detroit and having that time with me, Slaughter and Marshall [Mathers]. That’s the first we ever had that closed environment, uninterrupted by fans.” Surely, a room full of respected MCs must get competitive, but when it comes to collaborating with his crew, Yela said he’s actually humbled to be down with such talent. “In the Shady crew, first, for me it’s not to be the best because it ain’t gonna happen,” he said modestly. “You just have to be confident in what you’re doing and know that you might get ate up at any moment by any of these dudes because they’re all so ridiculous and just be honored to be a part of it.” On November 21, Yelawolf is set to drop his debut album, Radioactive. So far we know the album boasts appearances from Eminem, Kid Rock and Gangsta Boo as well as production from the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and WillPower. Related Artists YelaWolf

Eminem Gave Yelawolf Priceless Input On Debut Album

Em’s ideas and opinions are ‘worth more than I can pay for,’ Alabama MC tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Yelawolf Photo: MTV News It’s been a long road for Yelawolf , but on November 21, the Gadsden, Alabama, MC will finally release his official debut album, Radioactive. The Southern rapper first signed to Columbia Records in 2007, but never got to release his LP. After that deal fizzled out, Yela hit the mixtape scene and became one of rap’s most anticipated newcomers, eventually linking up with Eminem’s Shady Records . For Yelawolf, Eminem ‘s input during the making of Radioactive was priceless. “His ideas and his opinions are worth a lot,” Wolf told MTV News on Tuesday. “Artistically, it’s worth more than I can pay for — for him to even say what he thinks about a record.” In February, Yelawolf talked with us about the significance of being signed to Shady and working with Eminem. “I mean, it’s a huge deal being able to have a mentor who’s done this for so long and [has] been through so much,” Wolf said. “Also, artistically, [he just pushes] me to be better. Being around them dudes will make you better naturally. So we’re excited, man.” Yelawolf also told us this week that Em was present every step of the way during the making of the album. The first official single, “Hard White (Up in the Club),” features Lil Jon and it’s the perfect mix of crunk and rowdy rock. Many of the album’s tracks mark a departure in sound from what fans would expect to hear on a Slim Shady record. Even the one record that Yela’s boss appears on, the hyped-up “Throw It Up” with Three 6 Mafia co-founder Gangsta Boo , is sonically different from anything that has appeared on Eminem’s Relapse or the Grammy Award-winning multiplatinum Recovery. Still, Yela insists that the living rap legend’s value stretches further than a single appearance. “I’ve been in the studio with him when I was writing a couple of records for this. He mixed, he did arrangements, he was fully involved,” he said. Yelawolf wraps up his Hard White Tour on Friday in Las Vegas. Are you looking forward to Yela’s debut album? Tell us in the comments! Eminem Talks About His Transition To Acting On ‘RapFix Live’

Don’t miss Em’s Bad Meets Evil ‘RapFix Live’ interview with Royce Da 5’9″ on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Eminem Photo: MTV News Eminem ‘s transition from the studio to the silver screen was a successful one. His 2002 film “8 Mile” was critically acclaimed and took home some MTV Movie Awards. But for Marshall, going from rapper to actor wasn’t as easy. In fact, he said that some initial advice he had gotten from Ice Cube gave him a false sense of confidence. “I think Ice Cube said this one time; I think I heard him say this one time,” Em told Sway during their “RapFix Live” interview , which will stream on MTV.com on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET. “If you can rap, if you can perform to the camera for singing and videos, it should be a pretty, fairly natural transition. “I felt like having heard him say that was like, ‘Oh, this may be fairly easy’ — and it wasn’t.” For Slim Shady, that wasn’t the case. “It’s a whole different thing, because you may be used to performing to the camera, but it’s a whole different ball game when the music is off and you have lines that you need to say. “It takes a minute to get used to.” Though there is no official word on when Eminem will return to the big screen in a starring role, the rapper has partnered up with fellow Detroit MC Royce Da 5’9″ for their upcoming Bad Meets Evil EP, Hell: The Sequel. Tune in to “RapFix Live” on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET, when Eminem and Royce sit with Sway to talk about the making of the EP, the future of Shady Records and Eminem’s rap inspiration. Eminem, Royce Da 5’9" Coming To ‘RapFix Live’

Duo will discuss their upcoming Bad Meets Evil EP, Hell: The Sequel, Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Royce Da 5’9″ and Eminem Photo: MTV News Hide the women and children because Bad and Evil are coming to “RapFix Live” ! Ever since Eminem and Royce Da 5’9″ announced they would be joining forces to drop a Bad Meets Evil EP on Shady Records this June, hip-hop fans have been buzzing with excitement. This Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET, Em and Royce will join MTV News’ Sway Calloway to give us the lowdown on their reunited duo and upcoming EP, Hell: The Sequel . For starters, the rappers reveal which of them is “Bad” and which is “Evil.” “I’m not Royce today: I’m ‘Bad’; [Eminem] is ‘Evil,’ ” Nickel Nine explained on the set of the duo’s upcoming “Fast Lane” video. Eminem added, “For the most part, I like my name, and I think I wanna be ‘Evil.’ We’ve had a debate about this before.” The Detroit MCs formed the duo in 1999 when they appeared together on the track “Bad Meets Evil” on Eminem’s major-label debut, The Slim Shady LP, and released an independent single (with “Nuthin’ to Do,” “Scary Movies” and “I’m King”) on Game Recordings. A feud halted any collaboration for years, but Marshall and Royce have since made peace, and in January it was announced that Royce’s group, Slaughterhouse, was signed to Em’s Shady Records . Hell: The Sequel — featuring production from Mobb Deep’s Havoc, DJ Khalil, Bangladesh and D12 member Denaun Porter — will be released June 14. Alchemist Promises Curren$y Covert Coup Will Leave You ‘High’

Producer talks to Mixtape Daily about the 4/20 release, plus his updates on Mobb Deep, Roc Marciano, more. By Alvin Blanco Alchemist Photo: MTV News Mixtape Daily: Behind the Beats The Alchemist has plenty of sonic concoctions on tap for 2011. One of the esteemed hip-hop producer’s latest projects is New Orleans rapper Curren$y’s Covert Coup mixtape . And while Alc is used to dropping projects that are strictly for sale, the Coup tape is a free release. Chalk it up as a small price to pay for working with an ambitious MC like Spitta. “He got his own zone,” Alchemist told Mixtape Daily of Curren$y. “I hadn’t worked with him before that but when he worked, he works quick. Same way I work, too, which is good because we were able to knock out a couple of joints the first day and decide where it could go. I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t want to make anything that was like [what] he had done before or I didn’t want to go too far and make some different sh– either. Let’s just make some fly sh–. The two artists, who met a few years back when Alchemist was working on his Chemical Warfare album, have an in-studio rapport. “Obviously, I guess it would be redundant to say we were smoking weed, we made the music very high,” Alchemist admitted with a laugh. “It definitely is the audio equivalent of that; you’ll definitely feel high after you listen to it. I had a lot of fun doing it, man. He ain’t really restricted with his music as far as how he created, he’s real loose, that’s how I like to be too.” For now, Alc is nixing any rumors that he had a label deal through Shady Records, although he’s still Eminem’s tour DJ . And recent Shady Records signees Yelawolf and Slaughterhouse were sent some Alchemist beats for consideration. And that’s not all. The Hollywood-bred producer has a busy year of projects ahead of him. He’s contributing beats to Evidence’s new album and working on their joint project, Step Brothers. A new Gangrene album is also on the way via Decon Records. Dropping April 20 is Covert Coup, which Curren$y told us was created over a few studio sessions since both Alc and Spitta were adamant about not creating an album by emailing MP3s back and forth. The album is free but they’ll be selling T-shirts via Diamond Supply Co . “It’s an experiment for me, too, to put out an album like this, I usually put it out for sale,” Alchemist said. “We’re planting the seed for maybe a future one for real. I’m trying to get my weight up and see if I can move some shirts. That’ll be my SoundScan first.” On Roc Marciano’s upcoming album : “I’m working with Roc Marcy right now and that sh– is just, he is just, oh my … That’s like my favorite sh– in my iTunes, right now. He came out to L.A. a couple of times and we’re like six to eight joints deep. We’re going to work on a side project eventually but in the meantime anything I can do to help his new album. He got crazy sh–. Anyways, we came together and he just inspires me to make music. His rhymes are on another level, where his deliveries at he’s just so comfortable right now. I’m real hype about the stuff I’m doing with him. Roc is incredible, his rhyme flow, the words he chooses, he’s just on another level. The next album he’s coming out on Decon and I know Tip is helping out. I’m glad I’m helping with that too.” On a new Mobb Deep release : “We got some things in order; when the time is right I’m sure it will be out there. But definitely some plans for this new Mobb music. We’re so deep with music already. Basically, we’re focusing on making the Mobb Deep album first. There’s records already, like, ‘Yeah this is Mobb Deep,’ or, ‘This is P’s solo or whatever.’ Just planning it out and making sure that the first move is Mobb Deep’s best foot forward.” On a sequel to Return of the Mac with Prodigy : “Yeah! We gotta do that sh–. Oh man, it’s so many opportunities now, man! It’s definitely exciting man.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .

Jim Jonsin Keeps Busy With ‘American Idol,’ Wiz Khalifa, Eminem

Producer tells Mixtape Daily he’s working with Shady Records’ Yelawolf. By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Kara Warner Jim Jonsin Photo: MTV News Mixtape Daily: Jim Jonsin Jim Jonsin says he’s in bed by midnight, but considering his schedule, we have a tough time believing him. One of the Grammy-winning producer and music executive’s latest gigs is mentoring contestants on the current, 10th season of “American Idol.” The Brooklyn native’s job duties include cutting full cover songs within a week’s time that are then sold on iTunes . “I’m into artist development, so I like taking an artist brand new and working with them and teaching them new things and watching them grow,” Jonsin told Mixtape Daily . “They’re having to grow at lightning speed. With the music producers injected into this now, now they’re really at hard knocks, right? Not only do you have to build this performance, but now you have to record a song. And record an amazing song that’s gotta go on iTunes for sale and it reflects you and you being an artist.” Looking at his production discography, it’s clear Jonsin’s career is nothing short of amazing itself. The former engineer for Slip-N-Slide Records has gone on to produce tracks for artists including T.I., Kelly Rowland, Usher and Lil Wayne, winning a Grammy for 2008’s “Lollipop.” Some new jacks have benefited from Jonsin’s studio touch too. Wiz Khalifa’s “On My Level” from his just-released debut, Rolling Papers , is a Jonsin creation. “He’s got that Snoop Dogg vibe with his own twist, Jay-Z kinda,” Jonsin said. “Working with Wiz, it was good. He’s kind of a traditional hip-hop artist, which I love most, mixed with this edgy skater-punk spirit. He definitely blends with my character: I like that.” Jonsin also speaks highly of B.o.B. The ATL rapper/singer/songwriter’s B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray was released on Jonsin’s Rebel Rock label in conjunction with Atlantic Records and Grand Hustle Records. B.o.B and Jonsin have started working on the gold-selling album’s follow-up. “His last album kind of reflects who he is, but he’s growing into something new,” Jonsin said. “I’m waiting for what he brings us back when we go back in the studio — he’s got some ideas — to kind of see the direction he’s going in. We’re letting him lead that. He’s really talented. The guy produces, writes, he does a lot of his own stuff. I think his album will reflect that. I think this album will have a lot of his own work on it. We’re waiting on him to give us the direction. “I think there’ll be less features on this album, more him singing and rapping. Definitely less features: He wants to showcase himself more, put out more of his own ideas.” Another artist Jonsin is working with — Roc Nation’s J. Cole — surely has plenty of ideas, even if he has yet to release an album. “He’s that traditional hip-hop. I’m trying to give it a little Jim Jonsin, a little crossover, a little rock,” Jonsin said. “Some of the stuff we did was more traditional hip-hop with just a little edge to it, some rock in it. So I think we’re going to stick to that and see what happens.” Jonsin’s schedule is also booked with working with 50 Cent for the first time and with Eminem on his latest Shady Records signee’s forthcoming album. “That’s going to be fun,” Jonsin said. “We’re working for Yelawolf’s project. It’s all about Yela. We’re going to actually produce together. I get to work with Eminem producing records.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Yelawolf Takes It Home For ‘Pop The Trunk’ Video

Shady Records rapper talks to ‘RapFix Live’ on Thursday (March 10). By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Yelawolf Photo: MTV News Most young artists dream about life on the road, touring and rubbing shoulders with stars backstage. But for Yelawolf, that was an existence he experienced early in his life. His mother, who he describes as “super rock and roll,” dated a stage designer, and soon her son found himself meeting Ted Nugent, REO Speedwagon and Randy Travis, among others. “I definitely saw pieces of this life early,” Yela told “RapFix Live” on Thursday (March 10). That authenticity is what still powers the upstart Alabama rapper. His video for “Pop the Trunk” personifies his gritty appeal. He recruited his actual parents and hometown friends to star in the clip. “We took a camera to Gadsden, my hometown, and we shot this video with no script,” he explained. “I went to the locations that I was talking about and I got the people that I was talking about to play themselves.” Recently, Yelawolf aligned his talents with Eminem, inking a deal to join his Shady Records . The move bolstered the label’s roster, as he was also joined by underground supergroup Slaughterhouse. The move re-ignites the collective that’s also home to 50 Cent and D-12. “It’s a huge deal being able to have a mentor in someone who’s done this for so long and been through so much,” Yelawolf said of joining the team. “And also artistically, just pushing me to be better. Being around them dudes will make you better naturally. So, we’re excited, man.” Share your comments about Yelawolf below! Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With Yelawolf Related Artists YelaWolf
