The cast of The Real just got word that they’ll be happily employed until 2020, with the showed being renewed for two more seasons. According to deadline, The Daytime Emmy-nominated series not only did well in viewership but they had more than 12 million social actions last season and on is on pace to eclipse that number midway through this season. In addition, The Real has the youngest average age of all talk shows in syndication, at 51. Tamera expressed her joy in a post about the news. “God is good.” Jeannie also thanked fans for the overwhelming support. Meanwhile, Loni is just trying to get that first pay period pay check…. Chicago Girl Killed In Gang Shootout Saves 6 Lives Through Organ Donation At this point there really isn’t a whole lot you can say about the gun violence in Chicago except that it needs to stop. There have been debates, panels, town halls, speeches and still, African-American blood continues to run the streets of one of America’s biggest cities. It isn’t often that we even get a glimpse of a silver lining when it comes to this subject, and we’re not even sure if this particular story can be classified as such. But we were taken aback by a Chicago-Tribune report about the violent death of 11-year-old Takiya Holmes. Takiya was sitting in a family van with her 3-year-old brother when Antwan Jones opened fire at rival gang members across the street. In typical fashion, Antwan didn’t hit a single one of his targets, yet happened to hit Takiya directly in the temple. Shortly after she was unplugged from life support on Tuesday, Takiya’s organs were donated to 6 people, one “distant” family member and 5 other strangers. Seven of Takiya’s organs were donated following her death on Tuesday — to a distant relative and to strangers she had never met. Someone received her heart, her pancreas, her lungs and her kidneys. Two recipients shared her liver. While the family’s generosity will certainly not completely ease the pain of losing their daughter in the first place, they are aware of the joy they have brought to others. “It brings us peace to know that she’s living in someone else,” said Holmes, adding that Takiya’s mother and father eagerly agreed to the transplants. “The fact that she extended another person’s life and helped give them quality of life, we can live with that.” It took a lot of courage by Takiya’s family to share their child with someone else. Minorities, and African-Americans in particular, are not quick to donate organs. Though 20 percent of all transplant recipients are African-American — the overwhelming majority of them kidney recipients — blacks make up only 16 percent of all donors, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The kit features three colors, Dolce K, Truly Brown K, and Candy K, all a little on the darker side to emphasize the lip. Now teenage girls everywhere will sneak Lip Kit past their parents and apply it on the bus to school. The result: Jenner started talking about the line back in August, a few months after she confessed to getting lip fillers. “I have temporary lip fillers, it’s just an insecurity of mine and it’s what I wanted to do,” Jenner admitted. “I’m just not ready to talk to reporters about my lips yet because everyone always picks us apart. Canadian Farming Family Mourns Deaths Of Three Daughters Killed By Canola Seeds This is so sad. Via NY Daily News reports : A Canadian farming family is in mourning after three of their little girls were killed after being buried alive in a truckload of canola seeds. The incredible tragedy claimed the lives of 13-year-old Catie Bott and her twin sisters, Dara and Jana, 11, at their Alberta home on Tuesday, the Calgary Sun reported . Family members and neighbors managed to free the girls and perform CPR. Two of the girls could not be immediately saved while the third was flown to a children’s hospital where she died from her injuries on Wednesday afternoon. “Our kids died living life on the farm, it is a family farm. We do not regret raising and involving our kids Catie, age 13 — Dara, age 11, and Jana, age 11 on our farm. It was our life! (sic)” the children’s heartbroken parents said in a statement. “Thank you for all of the overwhelming support we have received from the first responders, neighbors and friends. Mark Zuckerberg might want to invest in a Steve Jobs-esque black turtleneck, because the dude has been absolutely crushing it with the big announcements lately. Last month, Zuckerberg revealed that he’s expecting his first child in the kind of intimate, confessional press release (via Facebook, of course) that we don’t generally associate with CEOs. Today, the Zuckster hosted his annual “town hall” meeting at Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, CA, and announced that he’s finally giving the people what they want – a quick way to tell their friend that their latest status update totally sucks. Okay, so Facebook won’t be offering the much-demanded thumbs-down “dislike” option as an alternative to its iconic “like” button, but it will soon be providing users with a different way to respond to status updates, so that you can acknowledge a post without giving it a full-blown thumbs up. “It’s important to give people more options than just ‘like’ to help express empathy and sympathy,” Zuckerberg said today. “Not every moment is a good moment.” Reps for Facebook declined to go into further detail, but did claim that Zuckerberg stands by statements he made in December in response to the overwhelming demand for a “dislike” button: “Some people have asked for a dislike button because they want to say, ‘That thing isn’t good,'” Zuckerberg said at the time. “And that’s not something that we think is good for the world. President Obama Says We Should Measure Progress By The Public’s Reaction To Stupidity President Barack Obama has weighed in on the controversy over SAE’s racist rant which was caught on tape. While he deems the foul clip as an act of stupidity, he says the more important matter is how the public rallied together in outrage. According to AOL reports : President Barack Obama shared his reactions to the video of University of Oklahoma fraternity brothers uttering a violent and racially-charged chant in an exclusive interview with Sam Stein of the Huffington Post released on Saturday. “Look, at any given point on any given day, somebody is doing something stupid out there,” Obama said when asked for his reaction to the viral clip. “In the age of the Internet, it’s going to attract attention. I don’t think this is the first time that somebody at a fraternity has done something stupid, racist, sexist. It won’t be the last.” The discovery of the video spurred the school’s decision to kick the fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, off campus. School President David Boren ultimately decided to expel two students over the incident too, a move the president praised. “What was heartening was the quick response from President Boren, somebody who I know well and I know who has great integrity,” he said. Two weeks after he marked the 50th anniversary of the civil rights marches at Selma with a speech in which he spoke about the advances that have been made in the fight for racial equality, Obama reflected on how a moment like the SAE chant fits into our country’s evolution. “The way we have to measure progress here is not, is there ever going to be an incident of racism in the country. It’s how does the majority of our country respond?” he said. “And on that front, there’s no doubt that the overwhelming number of students at the University of Oklahoma, and around the country, think that kind of behavior is deplorable and don’t accept it. “Frankly, 30 years ago or 40 years ago, there might have been a different reaction and more tolerance for that kind of racist chant,” he added. Postal Workers Charged After Stealing Kush-Filled Packages & Rerouting Deliveries For Sale via Huffington Post The alleged scheme had pot-ential. U.S. Postal Workers in Long Island, New York are accused of stealing packages filled with marijuana and diverting them so that the drugs could be sold later, according to the New York Daily News. Here’s how the alleged scheme worked:After stealing the packages, the employees put new address labels on them — called “overlabeling” — so they could be delivered to new destinations in Long Island or Queens where the drugs could be sold. In all, police said the eight employees stole 263 packages. Federal agents said they seized 129 pounds of marijuana worth up to $930,000. “The evidence is rather overwhelming,” assistant U.S. attorney Charles Rose said on Wednesday, according to Newsday. “The defendants are public employees who violated the public trust. It’s a very serious matter.” The workers are charged with theft of mail, conspiracy to distribute and possession with the intent to distribute. If only there was some way to avoid illegal alleged scams like this and the lengthy prison sentences they can entail.
