SMH: 70-Year-Old Man Found Unconscious In His Home With Death Cats, Human Isht, And Trash That Touched The Ceiling

How did his family let it get that bad ? Disgusting. Man Found With Dead Cats And Human Waste According to Mail Online A 70-year-old man from Philadelphia was found unconscious at his home surrounded by dead cats, excrement and waste. Authorities have said the conditions inside the house in the northeast of the city were astounding and nauseating, with the overwhelming stench of rotting animals festering in the sweltering heat. The smell was made worse by the lack of air conditioning in 90-degree temperatures. ‘He is alive, but when they walked into the house, it turned out to be a house of horrors,’ said George Bengal, PSPCA’s director of law enforcement to the Daily News. After getting a search warrant, crews wearing full body hazmat suits including breathing apparatus entered the home. ‘It’s a hoarder house, a huge mess. Huge mess. Dead animals, live animals. Really bad.’ ‘I have never seen a house in my life like this inside. The infestation of parasites in this property and just the overwhelming amount of feces that’s in this property… it’s incredible,’ said Mr Bengal. The man had lived in the house, on Bickley Street in Bustleton, Northeast Philadelphia, for the past two decades. The place had become overgrown with trees on the outside and full of garbage on the inside. It did not have air conditioning and was filled from the floor to the ceiling, with trash and animal waste. The home was also infested with parasites and vermin. In addition, the roof was caving in and the basement was flooded. Mr Bengal said that his staff estimated there could be dozens of cats inside. The homeowner, who was not identified, was discovered by family members who then called the emergency services. The man was taken to Nazareth Hospital. The SPCA will return today to continue to search for the remaining living animals. Mr Bengal said the presence of bats is a clue that this level of hoarding has been going on for years. The SPCA plans on charging the homeowner with animal cruelty. A sign has been posted on the door of the home saying it has been deemed unfit for habitation. This is like hoarding 2.0. Cotdamn. Put On Blast: HIV Community Pens Open Letter And Slams Tyler Perry For His Latest Flick ‘Temptation’ For Portraying Them As Monsters

The HIV community claims director Tyler Perry casts a bad light on people living with the disease…. HIV Community Pens Open Letter To Tyler Perry The Positive Women’s Network of the United States of America penned a letter and created a petition slamming director Tyler Perry for coming up with a plot they feel is offensive to those living with HIV , demanding a meeting with him immediately. The organization writes: As you may be aware, one of the greatest barriers to addressing the HIV epidemic is the high level of stigma and misinformation attached to this simple virus. Stigma prevents people from getting tested for HIV, from protecting themselves during sex, from accessing care when they test positive, and from disclosing their HIV status to family, friends, and sexual partners. Myths and outdated perceptions about how HIV is transmitted and the implications of an HIV diagnosis have resulted in discriminatory treatment towards, and violence against, people living with HIV. Unfortunately, Temptation can only serve to perpetuate stigma. Your film depicts people with HIV as untouchable and unlovable, doomed to a lifetime of loneliness, and unable to tell their own stories. It implies that men with HIV are sexually irresponsible and predatory. And the final image — that of a woman who has been infected with HIV due to an extramarital affair walking away alone and unhealthy — sends the message that HIV is a punishment for immoral behavior. Mr. Perry, as a leader in the African-American community, is this really the message you want to send in 2013, over three decades into this epidemic? Your impact on beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors in the community is not insignificant. And if you portray people with HIV as sinful, secretive monsters, unworthy of love and incapable of reproduction, what incentive do people have to learn their HIV status or for people with HIV to disclose their status? HIV is not something that “guilty” people get. It is not a punishment for cheating, lying, using drugs or alcohol, having more than one partner, or not asking the right questions. It is a virus whose transmission is fueled by poverty, ignorance, racism, sexism, homophobia, fear, violence, and many other factors – not by people with HIV. In fact, studies show that the overwhelming majority of people with HIV fiercely protect their partners once they know their HIV status. Many of us are in long-term relationships with HIV-negative partners. And yes, we even have children! We call on you to undo the damage that your film has undoubtedly already caused. Do you think Tyler Perry owes the HIV Network a meeting and open discussion as to how he portrays people living with the disease? Tyler Perry has brought up the theme of HIV in some of his other films where he portrays the character who has the disease like a villain, closeted homosexual and/or monster. Should Tyler Perry be more sensitive to people living with HIV? Learn more about the Positive Women’s Network of the United States of America HERE Continue reading

Question Of The Day: Are Rowdy Black Women And Wild White Women Equally Depicted On Reality Television?

Does one group of wild banshee breezies look worse than the other? Does Reality TV Equally Depict All Women? The era of reality television has brought about many debates over whether or not the means (using real life as a form of entertainment) truly justify the end (“fame” and/or notoriety.) While the initial idea behind the concept of reality tv was to film the “real lives” of once-everyday people, the spectrum has now broadened to give viewing audiences an intimate look into the lives of everyone from teenage mothers and unknown rich kids to well-known athletes and superstar entertainers. Although reality television certainly isn’t a gender-biased genre, it’s no secret that the most widely popular reality shows often feature women. The reasoning behind the overwhelming female presence is debatable: Do viewers in general find women to be more visually stimulating, more entertaining, or simply more willing to have their lives filmed and broadcast to the world? Or is it a combination of all three? Whatever the case, women of all races, shapes, sizes and backgrounds grace our television screens daily , with a new reality show popping up seemingly every month. And what’s more, the forumla for a successful female-dominated reality series seems to be pretty much the same: a mixture of outspoken women, shameless women and the token level-headed woman, all desiring to take their career or lifestyle to the next level by any means necessary. However, many argue that this very formula is purposely contrived to portray minority women in a worse light than their white counter parts………but are they right? Do predominantly white reality shows like Mob Wives, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Jersey Shore not promote and glamorize the same reckless behavior as shows like Basketball Wives, Real Housewives of Atlanta and Love And Hip Hop? Let’s discuss, Bossip fam. Photo Credit: VH1/Bravo

The Side-Eye: ‘Don’t Sleep’ With TJ Holmes Gets Cut Back After Viewers Are A No Show!

Did you see this coming?? Folks are asking BET why the show airs so late in defense of poor viewer turnout and, according to The Grio , the network isn’t putting any of the blame on their shoulders: When T.J. Holmes left CNN to host his own show on BET, Don’t Sleep, some called it a risky move, while the network’s viewers seemed to be excited. Holmes saw it as an opportunity to “reach out and report on stories that directly affect the African-American community.” Unfortunately, the viewership has not lived up to hype. Holmes’ show combines comedy, news and commentary not unlike The Colbert Report and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Don’t Sleep airs in the 11 pm time-slot and drew 400,000 viewers on to its October 1 premiere. The October 9th episode drew 1 million viewers, but since then, it has slipped to as low as 203,000. “To be honest, the ratings haven’t been great in the past two weeks. Our audience always says they want this kind of programming, but they don’t show up,” said Debra Lee, BET’s CEO. theGrio’s 100: T.J. Holmes, News anchor leaves CNN for BET As a result, Don’t Sleep will now be on for one hour once a week, instead of every night. BET released a statement saying, “The viewers have spoken and due to the overwhelming demand, Don’t Sleep will now be expanded to a one hour weekly format allowing for a more comprehensive discussion of the issues and events affecting the African-American community,” “We will now have an hour-long format to educate, empower, and engage. This will allow us more time to delve deeper into topics and determine how we can all, in our own way, be agents of change,” Holmes wrote on his website. “As part of being extended to an hour, the show will move to Wednesday nights at 11 p.m. This will allow us to do on-location reporting from cities and communities across the country.” Here’s a thought BET. How about you address the rest of your programming as a whole and leave real shows like ‘Don’t Sleep’ alone for now. Images via twitter

Were You Watching?? POTUS Brings It Home With His DNC Speech!

POTUS Barack Obama Shut It Down at the DNC last night. He let us know that he’s fought a good fight and that times have changed. “I recognize that times have changed since I first spoke to this convention,” Obama said. “The times have changed –- and so have I. I’m no longer just a candidate. I’m the president. “I know what it means to send young Americans into battle, for I have held in my arms the mothers and fathers of those who didn’t return. I’ve shared the pain of families who’ve lost their homes, and the frustration of workers who’ve lost their jobs. If the critics are right that I’ve made all my decisions based on polls, then I must not be very good at reading them. And while I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together, I’m far more mindful of my own failings, knowing exactly what Lincoln meant when he said, ‘I have been driven to my knees many times by the overwhelming conviction that I had no place else to go.’” “America,” Obama offered at the conclusion of his speech, “I never said this journey would be easy, and I won’t promise that now. Yes, our path is harder — but it leads to a better place. Yes our road is longer — but we travel it together. We don’t turn back.” “After all that we’ve been through, I don’t believe that rolling back regulations on Wall Street will help the small businesswoman expand, or the laid-off construction worker keep his home. We have been there, we’ve tried that, and we’re not going back,” said Obama. “We are moving forward.” The comments concluded a three-day convention that was equal parts proudly unapologetic about the president’s record and hostile to Mitt Romney’s. There were mishaps: one self-inflicted (platform language over Jerusalem’s status as the capital of Israel), the other a force of nature (concerns over thunderstorms forced the campaign to move the final night into the much more confined Time Warner Cable Arena). But by the count of most observers, including some Republicans, it was a bigger hit than the GOP conventions that preceded it. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed. When Melanie, one of the few remaining “wild” humans is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie’s body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Wanderer probes Melanie’s thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer’s mind with visions of the man Melanie loves—Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body’s desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love. The Host , directed by Andrew Niccol and co-starring Diane Kruger, William Hurt, Jake Abel, and Max Irons, hits theaters on March 29, 2013.

Miley Cyrus’ Engagement Ring: All The Details!

Liam Hemsworth wanted a ring that was ‘beautiful and romantic,’ celebrity jeweler Neil Lane tells People. By Christina Garibaldi Miley Cyrus’ engagement ring Photo: Neil Lane Miley Cyrus certainly has a lot to celebrate. On Wednesday (June 6), the former “Hannah Montana” star announced that she will be walking down the aisle with her boyfriend of three years, Liam Hemsworth . The two met on the set of their 2009 flick “The Last Song” and have been dating on-and-off ever since. Earlier this year, the couple denied engagement rumors after Cyrus was spotted with what looked to be an engagement ring. But now, they are ready to make it official. Before Miley and Liam walk down the aisle, let’s take a walk down memory lane and relive their three-year relationship. After telling People magazine that she “is so happy to be engaged,” Cyrus took to Twitter to thank her fans for their overwhelming outpouring of well-wishes. “thank you for all the love today 🙂 I’m happy to share this news with you all,” Cyrus wrote. “I feel like all my dreams are coming true. ❤ have a great day” Now adorning Cyrus’ left hand is a stunning 3.5-carat sparkler, which Hemsworth had a hand in creating. The “Hunger Games” star teamed up with celebrity jeweler Neil Lane, who told People that Hemsworth wanted “something really beautiful and romantic” for his soon-to-be bride. The ring, which has a vintage feel, was handcrafted in 18-karat gold and is garnished with diamond floral patterns. Yet, it’s the antique center stone that truly makes this a unique and beautiful engagement ring. “It was hand-cut around 1880 or 1890 and it’s unique and in its original form,” Lane said. “At that time no two diamonds were alike, as they were all hand-cut, so it’s fascinating to look at because it hasn’t been re-cut to look contemporary over the years. I find that really romantic.” And, according to Lane, so did Hemsworth: “It’s everything he was looking for.” Hemsworth wasted no time in giving Cyrus the ring, which was completed last week, just in time for him to propose to Cyrus on May 31. Send your well-wishes to Miley and Liam in the comments below! Related Photos A Look Back: Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth

Chris Hayes Apologizes For Criticism of Calling Fallen Soldiers "Heroes"

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes sparked major controversy and debate when he said that he felt uncomfortable using the word “hero ” for members of the U.S. military. Hayes’ point was that the word is inadvertently used to start more potentially unjust wars – not unreasonable – but now says his own word choice was poor. After speaking with a former Marine whose job it was to notify families of the death of soldiers, he said that while he means no disrespect to those who serve us all, the word “seems to be rhetorically proximate to justifications for more war.” Chris Hayes Asks: Are Military Men Heroes? Hayes also said that, on the flip side, it is “noble” to join the military. While a “liberal caricature” like himself would not truly understand “submitting so totally to what the electorate or people in power are going to decide about using your body,” Hayes conceded, he saw valor in it. Nevertheless, Hayes’ words, on Memorial Day of all days, caused a predictable furor with some. He issued a statement Monday apologizing for his comments: In discussing the uses of the word “hero” to describe those members of the armed forces who have given their lives, I don’t think I lived up to the standards of rigor, respect and empathy for those affected by the issues we discuss that I’ve set for myself. I am deeply sorry for that . As many have rightly pointed out, it’s very easy for me, a TV host, to opine about the people who fight our wars, having never dodged a bullet or guarded a post or walked a mile in their boots. Of course, that is true of the overwhelming majority of our nation’s citizens as a whole. One of the points made during Sunday’s show was just how removed most Americans are from the wars we fight, how small a percentage of our population is asked to shoulder the entire burden and how easy it becomes to never read the names of those who are wounded and fight and die, to not ask questions about the direction of our strategy in Afghanistan, and to assuage our own collective guilt about this disconnect with a pro-forma ritual that we observe briefly before returning to our barbecues. But in seeking to discuss the civilian-military divide and the social distance between those who fight and those who don’t, I ended up reinforcing it, conforming to a stereotype of a removed pundit whose views are not anchored in the very real and very wrenching experience of this long decade of war. And for that I am truly sorry .

Snooki, JWoww ‘Proud’ Of President Obama For Supporting Gay Marriage

‘I’m glad that he did it — better late than never,’ ‘Jersey Shore’ star JWoww tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi Snooki Photo: MTV News President Obama made history earlier this week when he became the first president to support same-sex marriage . Moments after the announcement, reactions came pouring in from celebrities and other supporters of his decision expressing their overwhelming enthusiasm regarding the much-discussed topic. Two of those supporters include “Jersey Shore” stars Snooki and JWoww, who stopped by MTV News on Thursday and told us that they were thrilled with President Obama’s latest move, even though they feel it should have come earlier in his presidency. “I’m glad that he did it — better late than never,” JWoww said. “And he is the first president to come out and say it, and I am proud of him for doing it.” Snooki, who’s expecting her first child with fianc
