Daughtry Sued By Former Bandmates Over Royalties

Former Absent Element members claim Daughtry owes them royalties over four songs they wrote together. By Gil Kaufman Chris Daughtry Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ Getty Images Chris Daughtry is headed to court in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he will face off against three of his former bandmates in a royalties dispute. Ryan Andrews, Scott Crawford and Mark Perry, who were in the band Absent Element with Daughtry before the chrome-domed rocker went on to national fame on “American Idol” in 2006, filed suit against the singer in Guilford County Superior Court on Thursday, according to The Charlotte Observer . The men claim that Daughtry defrauded them out of royalties for four songs that they say feature music and lyrics they wrote together. The lawsuit accuses Daughtry of, “constructive fraud, breaches of fiduciary duty, unfair trade practices, and other deceptive and wrongful conduct.” In the lawsuit, the three men claim, “All four members wrote music and lyrics for Absent Element’s songs, collaborated on the arrangement and recording of those songs, regularly consulted with each other on matters relating to the business of the band, and made partnership decisions based on majority votes.” The “Home” singer, who placed fourth on season five of “Idol” and has gone on to a platinum-selling career as the leader of the hard rock group bearing his last name, responded to the suit with a posting on the . “I am very hurt by these false accusations,” he wrote. “The songs listed in this lawsuit were written solely by me and no one else and at this time, I have no further comment.” Related Artists Daughtry

Eminem Gave Yelawolf Priceless Input On Debut Album

Em’s ideas and opinions are ‘worth more than I can pay for,’ Alabama MC tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Yelawolf Photo: MTV News It’s been a long road for Yelawolf , but on November 21, the Gadsden, Alabama, MC will finally release his official debut album, Radioactive. The Southern rapper first signed to Columbia Records in 2007, but never got to release his LP. After that deal fizzled out, Yela hit the mixtape scene and became one of rap’s most anticipated newcomers, eventually linking up with Eminem’s Shady Records . For Yelawolf, Eminem ‘s input during the making of Radioactive was priceless. “His ideas and his opinions are worth a lot,” Wolf told MTV News on Tuesday. “Artistically, it’s worth more than I can pay for — for him to even say what he thinks about a record.” In February, Yelawolf talked with us about the significance of being signed to Shady and working with Eminem. “I mean, it’s a huge deal being able to have a mentor who’s done this for so long and [has] been through so much,” Wolf said. “Also, artistically, [he just pushes] me to be better. Being around them dudes will make you better naturally. So we’re excited, man.” Yelawolf also told us this week that Em was present every step of the way during the making of the album. The first official single, “Hard White (Up in the Club),” features Lil Jon and it’s the perfect mix of crunk and rowdy rock. Many of the album’s tracks mark a departure in sound from what fans would expect to hear on a Slim Shady record. Even the one record that Yela’s boss appears on, the hyped-up “Throw It Up” with Three 6 Mafia co-founder Gangsta Boo , is sonically different from anything that has appeared on Eminem’s Relapse or the Grammy Award-winning multiplatinum Recovery. Still, Yela insists that the living rap legend’s value stretches further than a single appearance. “I’ve been in the studio with him when I was writing a couple of records for this. He mixed, he did arrangements, he was fully involved,” he said. Yelawolf wraps up his Hard White Tour on Friday in Las Vegas. Are you looking forward to Yela’s debut album? Tell us in the comments! Crystal Bowersox Debut Album Sales: Not Terrible

It could have been worse for Crystal Bowersox. A month after American Idol champion Lee DeWyze watched his debut album sell fewer copies during its first week of release than any CD in show history, Crystal’s “Farmer’s Daughter” moved 57,804 units. That figure was good enough for number-28 on the Billboard 200 Chart. It was also about 20,000 more sales than her fellow finalist’s initial effort. Among other American Idol alums, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia and Daughtry also earned spots this week on the Billboard 200.

‘American Idol’ Alum Chris Daughtry Weighs In On Judging Changes

‘Huge Aerosmith fan’ is intrigued by possibility of Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez joining panel. By MTV News staff Chris Daughtry at the 2010 Teen Choice Awards Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images Chris Daughtry comes from a simpler reality-show era; he was on “American Idol” in 2006, when the show had its three founding judges — Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson — passing judgment on the contestants that crossed their path. Now, of course, Abdul is long gone, and Cowell has followed her out the door . Meanwhile, recent addition Ellen DeGeneres left the show after just one season, and rumors are thick that Kara DioGuardi, a judge since 2009, might head for the exit as well . Though the “Idol” landscape has changed drastically since Daughtry’s time on its stage, the multiplatinum rocker is very much looking forward to seeing what Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez , who are rumored to be joining the panel for the show’s 10th season, will bring to the table.

Chris Daughtry, Wife Expecting Twins!

Chris Daughtry and his wife, Deanna, are expecting twins this November! The former American Idol star announced the news on his website Monday. “Deanna and I are overjoyed about this double blessing,” said the Season 5 finalist and hugely successful Daughtry frontman. “Thank you for your expressions of love and support and for respecting for our privacy during this special time.” Chris and Deanna Daughtry will be parents twice more . The singer detailed their protracted struggle to get pregnant. Due to Deanna’s partial hysterectomy in 2006, the couple used IVF and had their embryos transferred to a gestational surrogate. Deanna, 36, is six years older than Chris. The couple, who wed in November 2001, are also parents to Hannah, 13, from a prior relationship of Deanna’s, and Griffin, 11. Congratulations to the family!

Daughtry Shows Michael Lynche What His Post-‘Idol’ Future Could Be

Season-five alum Chris Daughtry and his band perform ‘September’ on elimination night. By Eric Ditzian Chris Daughtry performs on “American Idol” Wednesday Photo: FOX On the same night that “American Idol” kicked off Michael Lynche , another fourth-place “Idol” finisher, Chris Daughtry , returned to the stage to show Big Mike that he can still have a bright future as a recording artist. The season-five contestant and his band were welcomed back to “Idol” on Wednesday night and performed “September,” a single off their platinum-selling second album, Leave This Town. Looking not much different than he did upon his “Idol” audition years ago, a bald-headed and bearded Daughtry belted out the slow-burning tune as Lynche and his fellow contestants awaited their fate. Any one of them would be thankful to have even half the success that Daughtry has enjoyed. His self-titled debut hit the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 in 2006 and ended up going platinum four times. Last year, the band’s follow-up disc debuted at #1 and was certified platinum in February 2010. They’re also in the midst of a wide-ranging North American tour that has them playing in huge arenas throughout the country. “It doesn’t get old,” Daughtry later said of playing for large crowds. “It’s an amazing feeling every night, and we’re fortunate that we have fans that want to come out and see us. We don’t take that for granted.” Daughtry also had a piece of advice for this season’s remaining finalists. “Stay hungry and actually don’t compromise the music that you love,” he said. “Stick with what’s true to you.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Michael Lynche Eliminated from American Idol

American Idol may be an utter bore this season, but it can still deliver an emotional wallop at times. On last night’s results show, for example, Michael Lynche and Crystal Bowersox found themselves in the bottom two. After Ryan Seacrest revealed that Big Mike would be heading home, the tears started to flow. First, from Michael’s wife, cradling the couple’s newborn daughter. Then, from various audience members as Lynche sang Michael Jackson’s “Will You Be There” and, finally, from a certain celebrity gossip blogger’s living room. He just seemed really nice, okay?!? We’re down to Bowersox, Casey James and Lee DeWyze on the worst season in Idol history. Who do you hope takes home the crown? The night was not a total downer, of course. Bon Jovi, Daughtry and Fantasia all performed. Along with shots of Mike and Crystal, these artists are featured below:
