Attack the Block Is the First Geek Hit of SXSW, But Does That Really Mean Anything?

Universal’s geek bonding road trip flick Paul screens shortly tonight at SXSW, but another sci-fi alien pic with ties to the Nick Frost-Edgar Wright-Simon Pegg universe may have already stolen its thunder: Attack the Block , director Joe Cornish’s horror comedy about inner-city London kids who channel their delinquent ways into survival skills when vicious space invaders descend.

Edgar Wright on The Wright Stuff II: ‘Envy These Virgins!’

Back in 2007 fan fave Edgar Wright curated his first film series at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles, spawning a popular screening series of classic films and cult favorites hand selected by guest programmers ranging from Eli Roth to Peter Bogdanovich. This weekend the busy Wright returns to host The Wright Stuff II , a two-week bonanza that will bring some of his favorite films to the big screen.

Teasers For Cuban Zombie Ripoff Juan of the Dead Somehow Get Past Embargo

News trickled out of Cuba earlier this summer that filmmakers there planned Juan of The Dead , a horror comedy in which the titular hero takes aim at commie zombies with an oar. His husky ally tags along for comic relief and moral support. Sound familiar? Of course it does. It’s also actually happening , if two new teasers are any indication.
