Anna Kendrick is the most recent celebrity to become a target of the celebrity private photo hacked. Kendrick’s photos appeared on 4Chan and Reddit over the weekend, and showed her smoking and what appeared to be playing dress up. Luckily, Kendrick was completely clothed in all of the 87 photos. Two new The World’s End posters have dropped, a U.K.-only quad poster (we won’t tell that you’re looking at it from outside the U.K.), and a standard poster. Simon Pegg co-wrote and stars in the sci-fi comedy, which follows a group of adult friends as they go back home to re-attempt an epic pub crawl. Once there, they realize that something strange is happening to the place they grew up. Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Rosamund Pike, Paddy Considine, and Eddie Marsen also star. Pegg co-wrote the film with Edgar Wright, who also directs. The film represents the final film of the duo’ s Blood and Ice Cream trilogy. The World’s End will premiere August 23.
Marvel hero Hank Pym AKA Ant-Man will get his shot at the big screen in 2015, Disney announced today as they updated their slate of upcoming films. Also revealed: You’ll be able to see Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 in 3-D. Yawn . Let’s hear more about Ant-Man ! I’ll be honest: Even after Disney/Marvel unveiled the Ant-Man logo card at Comic-Con alongside the likes of Iron Man 3 , Thor: The Dark World , and Guardians of the Galaxy I had my doubts that Edgar Wright’s long-gestating superhero pic would make it to the screen in my lifetime. Now that it’s got a release date — albeit one in 2015, which is only three years away but feels like the distant future (seriously, how are we almost to the year 2015?!) — it finally feels like Ant-Man is happening. Also announced in Disney’s press release were dates for the Phineas and Ferb movie (moved up from 2014 to July 28, 2013), Saving Mr. Banks (December 20, 2013), DisneyNature’s Bears (April 18, 2014), “Disney Animation Untitled” (November 7, 2014) and “Pixar Animation Untitled” (November 25, 2015). Ant-Man , meanwhile, is slated to hit theaters on November 6, 2015. And while it’s unlikely since it came from an entirely different character who inherited the Ant-Man legacy (I know, I know), I’m holding out hope for a few scenes like this, because LOL.
Jean-Luc Godard may not care about Hollywood or its Oscars , but we have apparently found some hardware he is into: The 3-D camera. This calls for a comeback! The celebrated auteur, who was thought to have retired from filmmaking with his polarizing 2010 effort Film Socialisme , has reportedly undertaken another “last” project that he will shoot in three dimensions. Farewell to Language ( Adieu au Langage ), which he teased two years ago but only now has commenced production on, tells the story of “a man and his wife who no longer speak the same language. The dog they take on walks then intervenes and speaks.” Naturally. Héloise Godet, Zoe Bruneau, Kamel Abdelli, Richard Chevalier and Jessica Erickson star; European sales and production powerhouse Wild Bunch will take the project to the Cannes market next week. Here’s a not-very-good working version of its poster . Keep an eye on Movieline for more on when Farewell to Language might yield to a defective 3-D viewing experience near you. [ The Film Stage ]
Rejoice, Shaun of the Dead / Hot Fuzz faithful! At long last, the eagerly anticipated threequel in Edgar Wright ‘s “Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy” (AKA “The Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy” — Wright’s version of Kieślowski’s Colors series) is on its way. Deadline reports that The World’s End , to be directed by Wright with collaborators Simon Pegg and Nick Frost starring, is set to begin filming this September with fingers crossed for a spring 2013 release. But wait, there’s more! Get a taste of the trio’s upcoming shenanigans from the film’s synopsis, which promises adventure, friendship, and — what else? — pubs. The only catch: According to the report, Universal “hasn’t yet green lit the film.” But Wright and Co. are charging ahead anyway with the fall start anyway! Good luck to ’em. (And good luck holding your breath, Ant-Man -watchers…) The set-up: 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries. In what seems like a smart move for everyone involved, Disney has hired Edgar Wright ( Scott Pilgrim, Shaun of the Dead ) to direct Johnny Depp in The Night Stalker , a feature remake of the 1972 ABC made for TV movie of the same name and the series spin-off it inspired. The property follows reporter Carl Kolchak, whose investigations into criminal happenings lead him to all manner of supernatural villains; Depp will star as Kolchak, which sounds promising given Wright’s proven track record in genre work, even if it feels like similar stories have come and gone of late with nary a blip (the Vegas-set, vampire-themed Fright Night remake, for one). Despite the commercial disappointment of Scott Pilgrim (which nevertheless, it should be noted, went on to become a cult hit), the film demonstrated Wright’s strength of vision and knack for refreshing, energetic storytelling — qualities woefully lacking in Depp’s last few projects, with the exception of Rango . Even in the well-loved and storied character of Jack Sparrow in the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean there was a glint sadly, noticeably missing from Depp’s eyes. Call it passion, or inspiration, or energy; Depp can pull off a starring turn in his sleep, but he’s at his best when paired with directors with strong creative visions. Meanwhile, the Disney gig also seems like a step up for Wright, who co-wrote The Adventures of Tintin and is attached to Ant-Man but has yet to shake off the specter of Scott Pilgrim . But assuming a decent writer is tapped to pen a script, and assuming Disney finds a way to sell it better than it has this season’s big budget pic John Carter , Night Stalker could give all involved a strategic career boost. Fingers crossed! • Disney Taps Edgar Wright To Helm Johnny Depp In ‘The Night Stalker’ Feature Redo [Deadline]
