Producers of VH1’s Basketball Wives are thinking about filing a lawsuit against cast member Jennifer Williams for publicly trashing the reality show. After Jennifer Williams sued Nia Crooks for slapping her in the face while taping an episode (below), VH1 reportedly became absolutely livid with her. Now producers are ready rebut Williams’ legal and media rampage, during which she said the show portrays African-American women negatively. Basketball Wives FIGHT: Jennifer Williams Slapped! Producers feel Williams’ lawsuit is frivolous – her contract says she waives such a right to sue based on physical confrontations, the network says. Moreover, her explicit show-bashing is in violation of her contract , which forbids cast members from doing media appearances or press without approval. Or speaking negatively about the show, which the nut job clearly has. VH1 feels J-Dubs is “ruining the brand” they worked so hard to build, which is hilarious, but actually not a legal stretch if she’s in breach of contract. Crooks, for her part, was charged with battery for the slap. Really.

Basketball Wives star Nia Crooks has been charged with misdemeanor battery for slapping Jennifer Williams on a recent episode of the VH1 “hit” show. A rep for the Broward County State’s Attorney’s Office says officials decided to file the criminal charge on April 10, after Williams filed a formal complaint. If convicted, Nia Crooks faces up to a year in prison. Basketball Wives FIGHT: Jennifer Williams Slapped! During the January incident, which aired on last week’s Basketball Wives , Nia can be heard threatening to slap Jennifer in the lead-up to the attack. Jennifer then replied, “I wish you would.” Ask and ye shall receive. Nia’s lawyer Marc David Seitles said in a statement, “We will vigorously defend Nia against these charges … The women on this show executed contracts expressly accepting the risk that a physical altercation could occur.” SIDE NOTE: If that’s true, smart move by VH1’s parent company. The lawyer adds, “Given that Jennifer herself has previously instigated fights, to cry foul now is absurd and a desperate attempt for publicity and money.” “We will fight until Nia is vindicated.”
