LMFAO Hope They Have The Movie Awards ‘Anthem’

Kid Cudi, Chemical Brothers, Figurine and College/ Electric Youth also up for Best Music at Sunday’s show. By Kevin P. Sullivan LMFAO Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images The right song can make a normal scene in a movie one that goes down as a classic, and pairing a scene with the perfect backing tune can shed new light on a song you thought you knew. So for the MTV Movie Awards , we honor the music that met the perfect movie and made the magic happen. Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to cast your vote and make sure your favorite takes the stage this Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET to collect the Golden Popcorn. Here’s our rundown of the Best Music nominees: College and Electric Youth’s “A Real Hero,” “Drive” If “Drive” had been just a straightforward crime thriller like a synopsis might suggest, it would have amounted to nothing more than an average genre entry with a pretty face attached. Instead, director Nicolas Winding Refn infused every inch of this new cult classic with ’80s nostalgia, including an electro-fueled soundtrack, led by the College/ Electric Youth collaboration “A Real Hero.” The pick could seem odd at first, but as soon as it kicks in and all other sound fades away, everything just clicks. Figurine’s “Impossible,” “Like Crazy” Young lovers inevitably come to adopt songs as meaningful and important to the memory of their relationship. Appropriately, last year’s “Like Crazy” featured a killer soundtrack, suitable for the impossibly cute first love. “Impossible” comes up during one of the more difficult moments in the film, when our ocean-crossed lovers are apart and old memories keep new ones from taking. It added a layer of reality and depth to a scene that felt straight out of real life. Kid Cudi’s “Pursuit of Happiness” (Steve Aoki dance remix), “Project X” When it comes to throwing the world’s greatest house party, a badass playlist lands at the top of the to-do list, right below “invite people.” Just a quick glimpse at the clip proves that there’s nothing quite like this Kid Cudi/ Steve Aoki jam to party till the sun comes up or the cops kick everyone out. LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem,” “21 Jump Street” Now if you’re more in the mood for party music to get stabbed in the back to, LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” may be more up your alley. The song turned out to be the perfect accent to Schmidt and Jenko’s first big house party as fake high-schoolers, and it showed that you shouldn’t let something like a pesky knife wound ruin your rager. The Chemical Brothers’ “The Devil Is in the Details,” “Hanna” Similar to “Drive,” “Hanna” uses fairy-tale motifs and a frighteningly memorable score from the Chemical Brothers to elevate what would have otherwise been a rather typical Bourne rip-off. The music adds a whole other level of danger and makes the tale of a tween-age master assassin all the more sinister and disturbing. Armin Van Buuren, Afrojack, Steve Aoki Psyched For Ultra Music Festival

The lineup is ‘completely insane,’ Avicii tells MTV News of March festival in Miami. By Akshay Bhansali Afrojack Photo: Getty Images In December, Ultra Music Festival — Miami Music Week’s annual mega-conclave, attended by more than 150,000 fans last year — announced another staggering lineup for 2012. On Friday, March 23, downtown Miami, Florida’s Bayfront Park will host Ti

Kaskade, Steve Aoki, Nervo, More Kick Off ‘Crazee’ Identity Festival Tour

EDM artists hope to collaborate with each other on their down time between cities. By Akshay Bhansali Kaskade Photo: David Rojas/ FilmMagic America’s first touring electronic dance music fest, the Identity Festival , officially launched in Noblesville, Indiana, on Thursday, and the crowd was treated to sets from the likes of Kaskade , Steve Lawler, Chuckie, Steve Aoki , LA Riots, Manufactured Superstars and many more. And from the looks of it, the fans that came out to the Verizon Wireless Music Center were giving the artists as much energy as they were receiving. “INDIANAPOLIS ravin it up in the cornfields, awesome…& thank you!” tweeted Kaskade. “indiana i love u…. thanks for the fun first show for @identityfest my first time with my live show!” Steve Aoki wrote. Producer Rusko tweeted : “Indiana was crazee fun. Tons of bouncing and singing along as the sun went down. Maximum energy!!” And Chuckie sent a message to MTV News saying, “Indiana was epic! Was the perfect start to this crazy ride!! Lesss goooo!” N.E.R.D.’s Chad Hugo, Afrojack, Nervo, Avicii, Skrillex, Pete Tong, Nero and Britney’s Femme Fatale Tour openers Jessie and the Boy Toys are also among the featured artists that will be performing at dates on the tour. In addition to getting big names in the EDM world out to previously underserved markets, the festival also offers the prospect of some of the scene’s stars using the tour as a chance to collaborate with each other. Clearly, Steve Aoki already has big plans for the road. “On the bus, I’m outfitting it with my own studio,” he recently told MTV News. “I’m rigging my monitors. So it’s gonna be a productive month.” And the other creative minds on this tour all seem to be in tune. “Something tells me the Steve Aoki bus is gonna be a fun bus to be on!” Liv Nervo told MTV News. “And the Manufactured Superstars! We’ll definitely be crashing their buses.” “I’m really looking forward to hanging out with these guys,” Kaskade said. “Everyone from Skrillex to Rusko to Avicii. I’ve never really hung out with Avicii. “I mean we got some downtime,” Kaskade continued. “It’ll be like, knock knock. ‘Hey Avicii, I got this melody. Let’s work something out.’ So hopefully some cool stuff will come of it.” The Identity Festival moves onto the DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan, on Friday (August 12). Britney Spears’ Tourmates Nervo Tease New ‘Club Records’

Aussie twins tell MTV News they haven’t strayed from dance music roots in spite of ‘amazing’ Femme Fatale Tour experience. By Akshay Bhansali Nervo Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images With Britney Spears ‘ flashy Femme Fatale Tour closing out its remaining North American dates later this month, it’s fair to say that many of Ms. Spears’ concert-going fans have gotten to know Olivia and Miriam Nervo pretty well. In fact, when Brit first announced her Femme Fatale lineup back in April, promising on her website, “Nervo will get everyone on the dancefloor,” dance music fans were ecstatic about the inclusion of the DJ/producer twins whose writing credits include a song for Spears and David Guetta and Kelly Rowland’s “When Love Takes Over.” MTV News recently caught up with the Australian sisters (and former models), and they told us that bussing across the States and sharing the stage with Nicki Minaj, Jessie and the Toy Boys, and Brit herself, has been a stellar opportunity. “We’ve definitely seen both the girls, [Britney and Nicki], and we interact with them,” Miriam, a.k.a. Mim, told us. “You are traveling to each city and you see the same people every day and it really becomes a family. So it’s been an amazing experience.” “It’s an amazing show,” Liv added. “The girls, the lineup really works well together. You’ve got Britney, who I think is looking the best she’s looked in a really long time and who really gives it her all on this tour. And then you’ve got Nicki, who definitely brings her edge to it. I’d never seen Nicki live, and I’m just so blown away. The girl can sing, rap — total respect to her!” As the Femme Fatale Tour winds down Stateside before heading to Europe, Nervo are now looking to expand the fanbase they’ve built in the U.S. But while Liv and Mim have been a part of what might be considered the mother of all pop music tours, the duo insist that they intend to remain true to their dance music and DJ roots. “When we signed the record deal, it was really important to us that we could take our DJing seriously and release club records,” Liv explained of their Astralwerks label. “Yeah, we want to be DJ artists,” Mim added. “That’s what we love so, luckily, we can release some club records alongside our Astralwerks album,” Liv said. “It just so happens that the Astralwerks single that we’re coming out with is with two major club guys: Afrojack and Steve Aoki . It’s called ‘We’re All No One.’ We love it!” While Liv and Mim do the singing on “No One,” the beats are delivered by hard-hitting EDM producer Aoki and David Guetta prot

Weezer, Kid Cudi, Lil Jon Work With Steve Aoki On New Album

‘It should be interesting,’ Aoki says of the eclectic collaborations. By Adam Murphy, with additional reporting by Akshay Bhansali Steve Aoki Photo: MTV News At this year’s Winter Music Conference in Miami, MTV News spoke to some of the biggest names in dance music and beyond. One name that we couldn’t escape was West coast electronic tycoon Steve Aoki. To assign any one title to Steve Aoki is to do his talents a disservice. DJ, producer and record-label owner (Dim Mak) are but a few of the hats which he somehow manages to wear all at once. And if you’ve heard him spin, Aoki doesn’t miss a beat. As mainstream artists are increasingly consulting underground icons of dance music for production advice, Aoki has a well-trodden path from the major labels to his doorstep, having remixed hit singles for Weezer, Kid Cudi, Robin Thicke, The Killers and beyond. On the international scene, however, Aoki is a completely different phenomenon. His track “I’m in the House,” which features Zuper Blahq (who is almost certainly the alter ego of Will.I.Am ) has been making waves in the clubs and on the indie and dance singles charts abroad since it dropped in November of last year. This reboot of the chant-along sensibility of classic house (also revamped by David Guetta in “On the Dancefloor”) may offer us a glimpse of Aoki’s forthcoming LP. “With my album I’m doing a couple of different tracks with some familiar voices,” Aoki said. “Zuper Blahq, Kid Cudi, Lil John, Weezer, Black Star, Uffie, Sky Ferreira … just mixing it up with some hip-hop vocals, rock vocals, house vocals. So yeah, it should be interesting.” Aoki’s eclectic sensibility and his D.I.Y. spirit perhaps stem from his roots in — of all things — hardcore punk bands. And as more and more “bedroom producers” ascend to international stardom, the independent spirit seems to be the look of the moment. “We’re all doing it ourselves,” Aoki offered. “We’re making enough of a riot in our own world that more people are getting interested and want to get involved in what we’re doing. And if it makes sense to do a collaboration with a familiar voice that everyone knows, then it can make sense on both sides. It can work on the underground and it can work in the commercial world.” When you’re not showing off your moves at the club, stick with MTV News for Dance Music Week. We’ll be catching up with your favorite dance-floor staples as well as introducing you to up-and-coming talent. Related Videos It’s Dance Music Week! Related Artists Weezer Kid Cudi Lil Jon

Who Does Justin Bieber Retweet?

We take a look at the lucky fans whose messages get extra love on Bieber’s Twitter page. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Andrew H. Walker/ Getty Images Justin Bieber loves Twitter . His fans love his Twitter. And they love tweeting about Bieber. The 16-year old Bieber tends return the favor, retweeting his fans’ messages quite frequently. But who of his 1.5 million followers receives such an honor? MTV News decided to conduct a not-so-scientific study of his Twitter page to find out. Mostly, it seems that Bieber retweets fans who have been kind to him on their own Twitter pages. This week, he has been engaging his fans in nonstop retweet fests about his album. For instance, last night, he retweeted a comment made by MissTouchstone1 , “@justinbieber: MY WORLD 2.0 is HOT! im LOVING the sound on this album!” According to her page, MissTouchstone1 is a 21-year-old from Jackson, Mississippi. “I love my family!” she says in her bio. “I try to be POSiTiVE because it makes a bigger impact than being Negative all the time!” Bieber also retweeted BieberDivaz , who wrote on her page, “If all of @justinbieber’s followers each bought a copy of My World 2.0 it wud go platinum tomorrow!!! do it for justin buy one now!! ” Her twitter profiles even notes the times that Bieber has retweeted her: “JJ followed on 3.08.10 🙂 Justin bieber retweeted me twice on 3.23.10 at 7pm ET great day!” And he followed this pattern with ashleybans123 — “@justinbieber ur new CD rocks!” — and marghilovesjbs1 , who wrote “@justinbieber The CD is just absolutely AMAZING! go buy it, and get the golden ticket!!” But some of his Twitter fans want to take their relationship beyond the Internet and meet the pop star in person. Hope Downs (a.k.a. ladyyrauhl ), whose message about buying My World 2.0 twice was retweeted by Bieber this week, said her dream was fulfilled last year. “Justin Bieber has changed my life,” her bio reads. “He is breathtaking. my dream was to meet him, it became a reality on 8/11/09. he followed on 1/20/10 & RTed me on 3/23/10.” Downs has even bigger ambitions. She’s also posted an online petition to get herself onstage at one of Bieber’s shows. “My current dream is nothing out of the ordinary. Just like many other girls, my dream is to be Justin Bieber’s ‘one less lonely girl’ on stage on August 4th, 2010 in Orlando, FL on his ‘MY WORLD’ Tour.” So far her petition has 315 signatures. Will Bieber listen? Has Justin Bieber retweeted you? What would you do if he did? Share your thoughts below. MTV News will be rolling out previews from “The Diary of Justin Bieber” all week — don’t miss the full show, airing on MTV Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET! Lil Jon Shoots Video For ‘Outta Your Mind’ At WMC 2010

The crunk king shows off his house DJ skills in Miami. By Akshay Bhansali, with additional reporting by Adam Stewart Lil Jon Photo: MTV News Lil Jon is a house music DJ. While this may come as news to those of you who only expect crunk hip-hop with smatterings of “yeahs” and “whaaats” from him, the producer says he’s just going back to his roots. “I was a house DJ in the ’90s actually,” Jon told MTV News at the Winter Music Conference on Wednesday. “House has always been a part of me. I love house music. I love music, no matter what kind of music it is, from dance, house, electro, hip-hop, crunk, gansta, West Coast, country western. That’s how I grew up, I just love music.” Moments before our interview, Lil Jon finished his set at Nikki Beach’s Flying Circus party with “Outta Your Mind,” his collaboration with LMFAO and the first single from his long-awaited Crunk Rock album (due out June 8). As he let the song rip, he told the crowd that they were all to be a part of the video, and the cameras were already rolling. “We’re shooting a video all over WMC, and I wanted to capture the essence of Lil Jon’s life,” he said. “Lil Jon’s life and LMFAO’s life is: You wake up and you are running and gunning until we put our heads down. From party to party, we party with everybody from the hip-hop to the electro crowd, and that’s what we’re really capturing in the video. We love everybody, and everyone loves us.” WMC provides a chance for Jon to get together with all of his new friends in the electronic world. Jon is featured on a DJ Chuckie Remix of David Guetta’s “Sexy Chick,” and through Chuckie, he came to know David Guetta. And now LMFAO and Steve Aoki are among his favorite colleagues. “My boy is Steve Aoki now,” Jon said. “It’s crazy because me and Aoki met here in Miami, and he just hit me one day out of the blue, like, ‘You! I want you to get on this beat.’ And we got on Skype — me, him and Afrojack, which is a crazy combination — and we ended up linking up in the studio later.” Lil Jon said it’s not that big of a stretch for him to be playing one of the country’s biggest electronic music festivals. After all, a party is a party, and if there is one thing Lil Jon can do, it’s bring parties to a roaring frenzy. “They don’t really expect me to play house music at all,” Jon said. “People really don’t understand that this is my world too. Any time I play any house record, people just, like, bug out. I play a lot of Dutch records. I play baile funk. I play electro. I play house. I just bring the party to the table. I’m the guy that everybody looks to bring the party to them.” Stick with MTV News all week for more coverage of the Winter Music Conference 2010.
