Source: GRANT HINDSLEY / Getty Amazon is looking to expand on the success it saw through advertising bringing which brought in more than $10 billion which is absolutely astounding. To do so, the tech giant reportedly rolled out very quietly ad-supported music streaming service that could help it gain ground on Spotify. Amazon who already has the third-largest music subscription service behind Spotify and Apple Music is looking to make a serious play for the top spot in the streaming wars. The new platform will be completely free thanks to it being ad-supported and will work exclusively with the tech giants Alexa-enabled smart speakers. Per MSN : “Amazon is looking to launch a free, ad-supported music service in a move that would represent the clearest threat yet to Spotify’s dominance, according to a report from Billboard. The service would be geared toward Amazon’s voice-activated Echo smart speakers and would feature a limited catalog of songs.” “In order to secure the rights to this music, Amazon has reportedly agreed to pay some record labels a per-stream rate, at least initially, regardless of how much advertising is included on the platform.” This new service will be the company’s third music subscription platform. Amazon already offers Prime Music that gives its users access to a catalog which features over 2 million songs as an added bonus to their $119 Amazon Prime subscription. There is also Amazon Music Unlimited which costs $9.99, $7.99 for Prime members and $3.99 a month for those who use a single Echo or Fire TV devices and offers users access to a catalog of 50 million songs. Experts feel this new service could cut into Spotify’s 116 million monthly active users it reported it had in 2018. Looks like Amazon is looking to make the streaming wars interesting with this move, there is definitely nothing wrong with having more options to enjoy music. — Photo: GRANT HINDSLEY / Getty

Source: Michael Lavine/ FOX / Michael Lavine/ FOX “The Passage” Actress Caroline Chikezie Says The Show Is Full Of Black Girl Magic Tonight FOX is set to air their new show “THE PASSAGE.” which focuses on Project NOAH, a secret medical facility where scientists are experimenting with a dangerous virus that could lead to the cure for all disease, but also carries the potential to wipe out the human race. When a young girl, Amy Bellafonte (played by Saniyya Sidney, who was in Fences’ and ‘Hidden Figures’) is chosen as a test subject, Federal agent Brad Wolgast (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) is tasked with bringing her to Project NOAH, but ultimately becomes her surrogate father who does everything in his power to protect her. The show also stars British actress Caroline Chikezie who also appeared on the cable series “The Shannara Chronicles,” the streaming series “The Governor,” which was filmed in Nigeria and in the award-winning film ‘Babymother.’ Chikezie was also featured in “Eragon,” “Aeon Flux,” “Breaking and Entering” and “The Sweeney.” We spoke with Caroline about her role as Major Nichole Sykes, the many instances of black girl magic on “The Passage” and filming in Atlanta vs. filming in Nigeria. Check out our interview below. Source: Michael Lavine/ FOX / Michael Lavine/ FOX BOSSIP: Tell us about what drew you to this show and this role? Caroline Chikezie: It all started when I got the script for the pilot. I loved it and as I read it I could just see myself being Dr. Sykes, so that’s always a good thing. I just auditioned and got to be the last woman standing. My character is a very complicated individual. She’s a King because she commands men, and is fearless. Very fearless. The type of person you’d want to have on your side in a crisis situation, she’s very cool under pressure. She understands that there will be consequences for decisions she makes and is willing and capable to accept whatever fallout comes from her decisions. She’s a bad a**. A strong, black woman unapologetically. BOSSIP: Black girl magic was such a big thing in 2018. Could we touch a little on that and how the show taps into it with your character and Saniyya Sidney’s character Amy Bellafonte? CC: First of all, Saniyya is a movie star. I wouldn’t even call her a princess, I’d call her a queen. She’s so mature. Acting is just so effortless to her. It’s just awesome to watch her grow and when you think black girl magic there’s nothing more magical than Saniyya Sidney as the lead role Amy and my role as Major Nichole Sykes. For young girls watching we’re giving the opportunity to show that we are capable of anything. When I was growing up, we could only get the best friend role, or the role where we are killed, or hurt, or a lowly girl. Not that any role is lowly, because it is an honor to be cast when working as an actress, but just like finally we get to be represented as strong woman roles because that’s our rightful pace. We should be celebrating it, so I’m grateful. Source: Michael Lavine/ FOX / Michael Lavine/ FOX BOSSIP: Why should Bossip readers be interested in watching “The Passage”? CC: It’s got something for everybody! You’ve got the big heart, you’ve got a love triangle. My character is involved in a love triangle — we’ll see how that unfolds. There are a lot of characters I feel like your readers can connect with. Like mine and her journey through the show. How she handles being in an interracial relationship, how she navigates being a boss lady in a white environment. There’s loads of issues I think readers can relate to. BOSSIP: Is there anything you’ve learned that would be useful in an apocalyptic event? CC: I had to do some shooting practice, because my character uses guns, so I’ve learned that. Also, my character is a runner so if there’s ever an apocalypse I’ll be able to run! Source: Michael Lavine/ FOX / Michael Lavine/ FOX BOSSIP: What are the pros and cons of shooting in Atlanta vs. filming in Nigeria? CC: I love shooting in Nigeria, because of the food mostly. I’m British-Nigerian. The closest I’ll get to feeling like I’m home in America is shooting in Atlanta. I love Atlanta, in fact, I plan to move there. I was born and raised in the UK. Check out a fun video of Caroline and her costars from “The Passage” below: “The Passage” airs tonight Monday, January 14 on FOX. Will you be watching?
Source: Scott Legato / Getty With the loss of support from past collaborators in the wake of the Lifetime docu-series, Surviving R. Kelly , the R&B singer is now potentially without a record label to push new music. According to sources, RCA/Sony is putting new music from R. Kelly on hold while pending criminal investigations are looming. TMZ reports : Sources familiar with R. Kelly’s contract and dealings with RCA/Sony tell us … the label will not produce any of the singer’s new music, it will not put money behind any of his projects, and it will not release any additional music until the criminal investigations in Georgia and Atlanta and other fallout resolve one way or the other. We’re told R. Kelly is pissed because he’s been in the studio recording new music to fulfill the obligations under his RCA contract … which requires 2 new albums. Our sources say he’s especially annoyed RCA/Sony won’t provide money for music videos. RCA/Sony is in a tough spot — they can read the tea leaves and know they will have hell to pay in terms of PR if they release R. Kelly’s songs in the wake of the growing #muteRkelly movement. On the other hand, the label has a deal with R. Kelly, and if they formally walk away from him now without any criminal charges to justify ending the contract … they could be sued. We don’t know if there’s a “morals clause” in R. Kelly’s contract … which would allow the label to give him the boot for crossing the line. The outlet adds that Kelly has been continually dropping new music via the streaming service Soundcloud, a far distance from the big budget marketing rollouts he would enjoy under his recording contract. — Photo: Getty
Source: SOPA Images / Getty Netflix Sued Over Using The Phrase “Choose Your Own Adventure” Even though Black Mirror: Bandersnatch has been out for a couple weeks now, the episode is continuing to give people one of the most frightening TV watching experiences ever. But unfortunately for the streaming service, Netflix is being sued for using the phrase “choose your own adventure” to advertise the event. Children’s book publisher Chooseco, LLC–which apparently owns the trademark to “Choose Your Own Adventure”– is filing a lawsuit against the streaming giant for Bandersnatch . As pointed out by The Hollywood Reporter , Chooseco has been using the trademark since the 1980s and has since sold more than 265 million copies of its Choose Your Own Adventure series. On top of that, according to the complaint filed in Vermont federal court, 20th Century Fox currently holds the rights to develop an interactive series based on the popular franchise. Netflix has reportedly been pursuing the license since 2016, but they never obtained it. “Chooseco and Netflix engaged in extensive negotiations that were ongoing for a number of years, but Netflix did not receive a license,” the complaint states. “On at least one occasion before the release of Bandersnatch , Chooseco sent a written cease and desist request to Netflix asking Netflix to stop using the CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE mark in connection with its marketing efforts for another television program.” Chooseco is claiming that Netflix has benefited by using its brand, and also confused viewers with its association. The company also says it’s suffered harm to its reputation for being connected to the grim series.
Last year, Kevin Spacey was fired by Netflix and written out of his long-running series on the streaming service after multiple young men came forward alleging that they had been sexually assaulted by the actor. House of Cards carried on without Spacey , but clearly, the Oscar-winner has not moved on from his role as corrupt politician Frank Underwood. Multiple news outlets are reporting today that Spacey has been charged with felony sexual assault in connection with a 2016 incident, in which he allegedly sexually assaulted an 18-year-old aspiring actor. For reasons that defy explanation, Spacey chose to address the charges by posting a video in which he portrays Underwood. “I know what you want,” Spacey begins in Underwood's accent, addressing the audience directly in the character's signature style. “Oh sure, they may have tried to separate us, but what we have is too strong, too powerful. After all, we shared everything, you and I. I told you my deepest, darkest secrets,” he continues in an unsettlingly sinister tone. “I showed you exactly what people are capable of. I shocked you with my honestly, but mostly I challenged you and made you think. And you trusted me, even though you knew you shouldn't. “So we're not done, no matter what anyone says. And besides, I know what you want. You want me back.” Bizarrely, Spacey concludes the video by implying that the Underwood character didn't actually die, as House of Cards claims. “Miss me?” he asks the audience before sauntering off camera. It's anyone's guess as to what may have led Spacey to believe now would be a good time to adopt the swaggering style of a notoriously ruthless and immoral fictional creation. The allegation that resulted in today's charges surfaced last year, when Boston television personality Heather Unruh held a press conference , in which she claimed that Spacey had gotten her son drunk and grabbed his genitals. “My son was a starstruck, straight 18-year-old young man who had no idea that the famous actor was an alleged sexual predator or that he was about to become his next victim,” Unruh said at the time. “When my son was drunk, Spacey made his move and sexually assaulted him.” Something tells us an ill-advised publicity stunt isn't gonna help Spacey get out of this one.

Source: Patrick Harbron / Patrick Harbron/Netflix Talk about a surprise in terms of Netflix news. After letting Luke Cage go along with Iron Fist , the streaming service announced late Thursday that they were cancelling Daredevil , the longest running Marvel series on Netflix. The show had just completed its third season. “Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix,” the company said, per Deadline . “We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.” With Daredevil ‘s cancellation, there is only two shows under the Marvel umbrella on Netflix: The Punisher and Jessica Jones . There’s no word on whether or not Daredevil will return on Disney’s streaming service when it launches. “Unfortunately, Marvel’s Luke Cage will not return for a third season,” Marvel and Netflix said in a statement at the time of the announcement. “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.” RELATED: Kingpin Back: Trailer For ‘Daredevil’ Season 3 Drops RELATED: ‘Luke Cage’ Canceled At Netflix RELATED: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Remembers Stan Lee: “There Will Never Be Another”
