BIG WIN: California Passes Bill 72-0 Allowing Student Athletes To Profit From Their Name & Likeness

Source: Hannah Foslien / Getty California Passes Bill 72-0 Allowing Students Athletes To Profit From Their Name If you follow Lebron James even remotely, you’ve heard his vocalness about student-athletes not being paid for risking their bodies in the name of sports entertainment. If a student gets caught taking any cash, they will lose their scholarships, be kicked from the team, and sometimes even have legal action taken. Lebron’s platform Undisputed has been one of the biggest voices for California’s proposed SB 206, “the Fair Pay To Play Act”. Everyone is California- call your politicians and tell them to support SB 206! This law is a GAME CHANGER. College athletes can responsibly get paid for what they do and the billions they create. — LeBron James (@KingJames) September 5, 2019 College athletes are workers. Pay them. https://t.co/PNEefTbS2O — Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) September 6, 2019 The bill was designed to let college athletes profit for their name & likeness and take endorsement deals. According to Deadspin , the bill passed on Monday night 72-0 , with ZERO opposition and is now headed to the desk of Governor Gavin Newsom, who has already expressed his support. It seems like a no-brainer, but the NCAA has already expressed they will not go down without a fight. NCAA President Mark Emmert (whose salary is $4 Million dollars) had urged California lawmakers to postpone consideration of the bill back in June, stating the following: “We recognize all of the efforts that have been undertaken to develop this bill in the context of complex issues related to the current collegiate model that have been the subject of litigation and much national debate. Nonetheless, when contrasted with current NCAA rules, as drafted the bill threatens to alter materially the principles of intercollegiate athletics and create local differences that would make it impossible to host fair national championships. As a result, it would likely have a negative impact on the exact student-athletes it indents to assist.” While the bill passed is seemingly easier, the fight is just getting started to actually get these athletes some fair treatment…and some money. If this bill becomes law, it will go into effect on January 1, 2023.

‘Power’ Recap: The Jimenez Cartel Have Not ‘Forgot About Dre’ Sends The Goons To Cancel His Christmas

Read more here:

Source: Power / Starz L ast week Angela was put six feet in the ground and her sister Paz made sure her secrets went with her. Meanwhile, Ghost learned that he can’t really trust anyone when Tommy popped up alive and well at his side chick’s funeral. To make matters worse, his soon to be ex-wife confirmed she knew his former business partner wasn’t dead. The episode closed out with Dre learning of Angela’s death which was the feds worst nightmare fearing he won’t testify against Alicia Jimenez. Dre Has More Than Nine Lives Source: Power / Starz T his week’s episode picks right up where last week’s left off. Jerry is getting ready to take Dre to testify against Alicia Jimenez. Before they can leave the house where they hiding Dre and his daughter, Jerry notices a shadowy figure creepy around the front door. As expected, Jimenez hitmen bust in the safehouse taking out the federal agents left and right leaving just Dre, his daughter and Jerry still alive. With some quick thinking, Jerry manages to take out the remaining thugs but does get shot in the process. Dre seizes the moment to pick up a gun from one of the deceased agents and with no remorse kills a begging Jerry in front of his daughter. With everyone dead, Dre decides to take his daughter and run because he knows the Jimenez will hunt continue to hunt him and his daughter. He doesn’t get too far and is arrested by agents at the train station, and they bring him back into custody. Saxe Is Under Some Serious Pressure Source: Power / Starz S axe is having a hard time trying to prove that Ghost was the one who killed Angela Valdez. The death of Jerry Donovan doesn’t help either and only puts more pressure on him thanks to his new boss. Warner tells Saxe that now it’s his business to see to it that Dre testifies against Alicia Jimenez cause if she somehow walks, Saxe is in big trouble. He also has that illegal bug he gave to Proctor’s ex-wife out there hoping he can get some info from that as well. Speaking of the bug, he hasn’t gotten that smoking gun he needs yet but almost does when Tommy stops by Proctor’s house. Before Tommy can say anything damaging to either him or Ghost, Proctor’s daughter comes back and takes the bookbag with the listening device attached to it upstairs. Saxe also has Dre in his custody now that Jerry is gone, so he plans to use him as well in his quest to get Ghost. Team Tate Is Shaken Up Source: Power / Starz R ashad Tate has big dreams of becoming Governor of NYC and won’t stop at nothing to get there. We saw just how ruthless he is last week when he beat up his campaign manager. This week Tate is knocking boots with the same campaign manager’s girlfriend or wife, either or Councilman Tate is totally foul. While he is having sex with her, he gets a call from the DNC, and they inform him they are sending him a care package to help boost his growing campaign. What Tate doesn’t know that the care package isn’t money, but it’s Ramona Garrity who walks in Tate’s campaign headquarters and fires half his staff. Her job is to “stress test” Tate’s operation on behalf of the DNC before they send any money his way. That also means she wants to know more information about his supporters, especially one James St. Patrick, who has been all over the news. The DNC really wants to win in New York and feel Ramona and her team can make that happen. Now unfortunately for Tate, Ramona popping up might be useful for Ghost. He’s already fed up because nothing is happening with the Queens Child Project building and he is also running low on funds. Garrity seems to have an eye for Ghost, why does it always seem to be the powerful women on this show have a thing for ain’t sh*t men? Ghost can sense the lust, and he’s obviously feeding off it and is working Garrity, so much to the point, she wants to use him and his estranged wife to hammer home Tate’s message locally. Ghost quickly tells Ramona that he and Tasha are heading towards divorce and her eyes light up a like a Christmas tree. Tate is stunned at the revelation, but he can’t go against Garrity. Now, this wouldn’t be Power if there was some sneaky mess going on right? Both Garrity and Tate meet up with Tasha to enlist her help despite Ghost telling them he wants to work alone. Knowing that they need her, Tasha uses the moment to get the daycare license and other things she needs to get her new “legitimate business” off and running. Riq Is Learning The Drug Game Is Hard Source: Power / Starz R iq, aka Ghost 2.0, is the big man on campus now. He’s got some money rolling and a reliable team, but he’s running out of pills to push. He has one stash of pills his dead mentor, Kanan gave him stashed in his deceased sister’s room, but he knows it’s not enough. Riq is quickly learning the drug game isn’t easy but gets comfort from his newest recruit, aka Tasha 2.0. The two have a heart-to-heart convo over a game of chess with Riq revealing a lot is going on in his life. Especially with his dad knowing he lied to him about knowing Tommy was alive. Riq also opens up about his sister’s death and how he feels alone after losing his twin. His new friend/associate assures him she is here for the troubled teen. Before the scene closes, Riq tells her that he has no more pills because his drug connect, Kanan is dead. Will Jason’s Plan To Kidnap Alicia Jiminez Somehow Unite Ghost and Tommy? Source: Power / Starz Jason is really taking advantage of the beef between Ghost and Tommy. Last week he found a way to get money from the former friends and now this week he is using them to take out the competition. Jason hatches a plan to kidnap Alicia Jimenez from federal custody while on her way to trial. Instead of carrying out the scheme himself, he recruits Tommy and Ghost separately giving each of them an incentive if they successfully accomplish the goal. While we really have no idea what Ghost planned to kidnap Alicia, it was Tommy and his goons surprisingly who had the best scheme to capture the drug lord. After Alicia takes a sip of a spiked glass of water that sends her to the bathroom, Tommy’s new ride-or-die chick, Keisha sends her boo the message that Jimenez is passed out in the bathroom. 2-Bit and Spank show up disguised as EMT workers and wheel here out on a stretcher and load her up into a stolen ambulance. Ghost in his very lame disguise is watching all of it go down right before his eyes in disbelief. He immediately wraps up his attempt at kidnapping Alicia and hops in his escape vehicle. Before he can leave he sees Tommy, and they make eye contact with Egan acknowledging he outsmarted Ghost with a tip of his hat. When the drugged Alicia wakes up, she refuses to reveal her trafficking network, her decision to not talk earns her a bullet to the head. With her dead, Saxe no longer needs Dre and threatens to take his daughter away, but if he agrees to help him nail Ghost, Saxe will pull some favors him. Dre reluctantly agrees and even points out he saw Ghost at the courthouse, but Saxe doesn’t believe him. Looks like Dre has his work cut out for him once again. Ghost, of course, is furious and runs to go talk to Proctor about his failed kidnapping attempt. While breaking the down the entire situation to his attorney tells him that Tommy stopped by asking for the same info. Ghost also reveals to Proctor that he is broke and needs money as soon as possible. Proctor tells his client to think slowly and asks him who can lend him money? With desperate times come desperate measures with Ghost reaching out to Simon Stern for help. Source: Power / Starz Knowing that both he and Tommy are getting played by Jason, Ghost decides to call his former “brother” and suggests they team-up one last time to take out the drug connect. Tommy, on the other hand, is not with that idea and tells Ghost the next time he sees him he’s going to cancel Christmas on that a**. FaceApp Conspiracy?: Russians Now Own All Your Old Photos & Information

Source: MStudioImages / Getty Faceapp had social media going crazy over the past week with people posting pictures of what they would look like as seniors.  It even started a viral hashtag called the #faceappchallenge but now people who participated may have voluntarily given their information to Russians. Experts are concerned about the privacy and security of the app and it’s permissions and what it could be collecting from it’s users.  Basically if you have the app the Russians who created the app can now have access to your personal information and identity which could pose a problem on many levels. Via NYPost: But be warned: FaceApp, which you grant permission to access your photo gallery, also includes in their Terms and Conditions that they have the right to modify, reproduce and publish any of the images you process through its AI. That means that your face could end up being commercialized — or worse. UK-based Digitas strategist James Whatley said on Twitter, “You grant FaceApp a perpetual, irrevocable… royalty-free… license to use, adapt, publish, distribute your user content… in all media formats… when you post or otherwise share.” That means they can also use your real name, your username or “any likeness provided” in any format without notifying, much less paying, you. They can retain that material as long as they want, even after you delete the app, and you won’t be able to stop them. Even those who set their Apple iOS photo permissions to “never,” as  Tech Crunch points

Iowa Public Official Fired After Shouting Out Tupac In A Company Email To 4,300 Employees

Source: Al Pereira / Getty We may have found the biggest Tupac fan in the Midwest. And no, it’s not who you think it is. The Associated Press reports that 66-year-old Jerry Foxhoven , formerly Iowa’s Department of Human Services Director, was let go from his job after sending a Tupac-referencing email to all 4,300 of the agency’s employees. Now, other folks had complained about Foxhoven’s Tupac themed emails before and according to company documents, Foxhoven released about 350 pages worth of emails with the words “Tupac” or “2Pac” sent to and from him during his two years at the Department. Want your mind blown? This, is Jerry Foxhoven. He would host “Tupac Fridays” parties in the office, traded lyrics with employees and marked his own 65th birthday with a Shakur-themed party, complete with “Thug Life” decorated on the cookies. All in all, Foxhoven seemed to be inspired by the “So Many Tears” rapper, telling colleagues that he was inspired by lyrics that included: “it’s time for us as a people to start makin’ some changes.” Foxhoven’s final email told his co-workers to celebrate Father’s Day  and Tupac’s birthday (June 16th) by listening to tracks like “Changes” and “Ambitionz Az A Ridah” among others. The next day, Iowa governor Kim Reynolds told him to resign. Yeah, all because HE didn’t forget about Pac, even if some employees didn’t care for the slain rapper. But, nobody knows for certain why Foxhoven was let go from his position. And according to Iowa law, state agencies are required to release the “documented reasons and rationale” when employees resign instead of being terminated. “As the governor has said, a lot of factors contributed to the resignation of Jerry Foxhoven and now Gov. Reynolds is looking forward to taking DHS in a new direction,” spokesman Pat Garrett said. Rihanna Blasts 25 White Men Who Voted To Ban Abortions In Alabama

Source: Jon Kopaloff / Getty via MadameNoire.com : By signing into law one of the most restrictive abortion bills in history, Alabama has solidified itself into a Draconian state. On Wednesday evening Governor Kay Ivey, a white, female, conservative, signed into law the Alabama Human Life Protection Act (HB 314), which would classify abortion as a felony. Doctors could face up to a maximum prison sentence of 99 years if found guilty, while an attempted abortion holds a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. On Thursday singer and global entrepreneur Rihanna delivered a swift and smooth critique of the 25 white, male, conservative state senators who voted in favor of the bill. “Take a look. these are the same idiots making decisions for WOMEN in America. Jeremy Roloff Admits to Porn Addiction, Near-Destruction of Marriage

Jeremy Roloff and Audrey Roloff may seem like one of the happiest famous couples out there. But each writes in the couple’s brand new book about past troubles in their marriage. And not just basic, harmless troubles, either — we’re talking soul-altering sins that caused both Jeremy and Audrey to question their values, their morals and the overwhelming desires present in their private parts. We’re not really kidding. First, as previously outlined, Audrey wrote openly in “A Love Letter Life,” the tandem’s memoir that just went on sale today, about how she and Jeremy engaged in some naked behavior prior to getting married. They didn’t have sex, no. But they did engage in some impure actions that involved a bathing suit . Naughty, right? Yes, if you are a devoted Catholic, as Jeremy and Audrey have often claimed to be and have often written and talked about with their social media followers. Now, the former Little People, Big World cast member is here to delve into his own shame; to explain to readers that he isn’t the wholesome and clean-cut husband he’s maybe always come across as on television or on Instagram. Jeremy, too, has sinned. When he first started dating Audrey, Roloff writes in this book that he was “failing behind the computer screen,” explaining in more detail: “I had wandering eyes when it came to risqué images and social media profiles I had no business looking at.” In other words: Jeremy liked porn. However, Roloff somehow argues here that he wasn’t into porn in the traditional sense. That is, the naked sense. “I know many men who excuse their porn habit because there is no nudity,” says Jeremy. “But the sin of porn can happen in the mind with or without articles of clothing, no matter whether it’s on an Instagram feed or an explicit website.” Ummm… okay then? We’re not entirely sure how porn can “happen in the mind,” unless Jeremy simply means here that he used to picture women naked in his head. This is also known simply as being a male . But Jeremy was ashamed of the behavior. The father of one says in the memoir that about once a month, he would become “lazy, bored or stressed,” and scroll naughty websites. “I realized I was a hypocrite,” he admits. “I said I believed one thing but acted out another in secret, and I was breaking down, whether or not I recognized it.” To be clear, Jeremy wasn’t acting out any lewd fantasies or actively doing anything untoward… unless you consider perusing some websites to fall into this category. Which Jeremy evidently does. After kicking the habit for a bit, Roloff tells readers he grew stressed as a result of his 2014 wedding — and got bitten once again by the adult entertainment bug. “The parasitical sin had not vanished,” he actually writes. At this point, he sought help in his local Bent, Oregon church group. “It was here that I found a pastor who wouldn’t stand for unrepented, habitual sin,” says Jeremy, adding: “He called me out and set me straight as he explained the Biblical truths about someone who refuses to turn from sin and walk in righteousness.” Jeremy also opened up at last to Audrey. He told her everything. And it nearly ended their relationship. “When I saw the look of betrayal in her eyes, I felt mournfully sorry. Tears ran down her beautiful face. ‘Why Jer?’ she asked. ‘Why?’” he recalls in the book. (NOTE: Perhaps this explains why Audrey once posed nude in a bathtub ; to give her husband something to ogle at without feeling guilty.) Thankfully, The couple worked through their issues and later welcomed daughter Ember in 2017. But the end was nigh there for a little bit. “Audrey was devastated. My behavior had fractured our trust, scarred our intimacy, and broken our unity,” he writes. These days, Jeremy isn’t touching the keys on his computer screen any longer in an attempt to look for sexy women. But he is still touching his wife when the pair can squeeze it in , that’s been made known! View Slideshow: Audrey and Jeremy Roloff: Why They REALLY Quit Little People, Big World

Larissa Lima Reveals the Grim Fate of Colt’s Ring

90 Day Fiance showed fans only part of how miserable Larissa Lima and Colt Johnson's relationship was. (Though viewers expect to see the horrors of their married life very soon, whenever 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? airs) These days, Larissa has a new boyfriend who's the polar opposite of Colt , but fans still have a question: Whatever became of Larissa's ring? Speaking to Us Weekly , Larissa and Colt both spoke about the fate of the diamond ring that Colt had given to Larissa. Larissa's revelation may be a shock to everyone — including Coltee. 1. Where is Larissa’s ring? Colt gave Larissa a diamond ring. They lived as husband and wife for (nearly) seven months. These days, the ring is nowhere to be found. 2. Did Colt keep it? Larissa says that Colt and Debbie packed up her things while she was behind bars — but that they kept a number of her belongings, right down to the wedding dress. 3. So, did Colt keep her ring? “I don’t have the ring,” Colt tells Us Weekly. 4. He is resigned to it being gone from his life “I don’t think I’ll ever get it back,” Colt admits. 5. Legally speaking, he’s right A cursory look through Nevada state law says that engagement rings are viewed as conditional gifts, and must be returned to the gift-giver if the condition (marriage) is not met (though some attorneys have tried creative arguments against this, that’s the law in Nevada). 6. But the “condition” was met Colt and Larissa got married. As far as we can tell (despite not being lawyers), Larissa is entitled to keep the ring forever. View Slideshow

TLC’s Danielle Busby Teams Up With Audrey Roloff’s Clothing Line!

TLC favorites are crossing over! On March 7, the  OutDaughtered  star Danielle Busby took to Instagram to announce to her fans that she is partnering with Always More, a clothing company started by former  Little People, Big World  star Audrey Roloff. And we’re cheering hard.  “One thing is for sure, this @shopalwaysmore NEW ROSE SHERPA is a.m.a.z.i.n.g!” Danielle wrote while modeling the fluffy sweatshirt.  “It literally is the softest out of all my sherpas I own.” She concluded her post by sharing her personal code: danielle15 for her fans to receive a discount.  And she also, of course, tagged  Audrey and her husband Jeremy Roloff in the pic.  It took the new mom approximately three seconds to chime in, writing “LOVEEEEEEE” with three heart emojis in the comment section.  Her sister-in-law even shared her support, writing “get it girl!” to the mother of 6. But the fans brought the most excitement, writing, “My two favorite worlds colliding!!!!” Another agreed, saying, “Love @shopalwaysmore!! And I love watching two amazingly strong women like you @dbusby and @audreyroloff!” Audrey introduced her Always More brand via her blog where she shared the meaning behind the words. “Over the years I have kept every pair of running shoes that I have ever had. I spray paint them red, write notes on/in them, say a prayer, and throw them on telephone wires near places significant to my life,” she wrote. “It has become my way of letting go of a certain season in my life, and embracing a new one.” “On the bottom of every pair I write “ALWAYS MORE,” she continued. “These words represent the way I strive to live, based on my motives for living that way.” This isn’t the first member of the TLC fam to show their love towards Audrey’s multiple ventures.  Just three weeks earlier, Jinger Duggar from Counting On posted a sweet photo with her hubby Jeremy Vuolo with the message, “He is everything I asked God for in a husband – he loves Christ supremely, is loving, compassionate, caring, humble, and sincere.” “Every day with you is sweeter than the day before – I love you, baby! #3sentencelovestory @beating50percent.” Beating 50 Percent is another one of Audrey’s passion projects which is all about beating the divorce rate statistics and staying married no matter what, so totally appropriate for the devoted Duggar fam .  And while Danielle is most likely receiving a commission for every item she sells using her code, Jinger seems to be simply a fan of the concept of Beating 50 Percent.  But there’s nothing at all wrong with Danielle’s position, I mean, she does have six children at home to feed and we totally back the duo’s partnership. Fans were shocked to learn of the somewhat recent news that  Audrey and Jeremy Roloff were leaving the show  Little People, Big World . However, I’m sure they can rest easy knowing that the two aren’t completely shutting TLC out of their life, considering the remaining friendly support. We think it’s great the moms are teaming up and we hope to see even more from them in the future!  View Slideshow: Audrey and Jeremy Roloff: Why They REALLY Quit Little People, Big World

Democrats Backpedal On Calls For Virginia’s Governor To Resign Over Blackface

Continued here:

J ust one month ago, there was widespread  demand for Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam to resign for having worn blackface. But now that storm seems to have passed, with Democrats backpedaling on their initial outrage. See Also: Ralph Northam Is Depending On Black Forgiveness, But Does He Deserve It? Virginia’s Democratic Attorney General Mark Herring , who is engulfed in his own blackface controversy , appears to have joined the bandwagon of politicians who are no longer demanding that Northam step down from office. Although he at first called for Northam’s resignation, Herring declined to say whether he still feels that way and even weighed in on Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax’s sexual assault scandal during an interview on WAMU’s Kojo Nnamdi Show. “The governor has made up his mind. He’s decided that he is going to continue on and is doing what he thinks he needs to do,” Herring said of Northam. When asked directly whether he’s suggesting that Northam should continue in office since he has refused to step down, Herring again declined to answer. On Feb. 1, 59-year-old Northam apologized for appearing in a photograph of a person dressed in blackface and another person in a Ku Klux Klan robe from his 1984 medical school yearbook. One day later, at a bizarre press conference, the governor denied that he was one of those people in the picture but admitted to applying black shoe polish to his face for a  Michael Jackson  dance competition. Virginia Sen. Mark Warner , a Democrat who was one of Northam’s early critics, is now talking about giving the governor a second chance. “If the governor is going to continue to stay, what he needs to do is get out and start to try to re-earn the trust of Virginians. When I called for his resignation along with [Sen.] Tim Kaine , we said the governor had lost the faith of the people of Virginia. He has a right to try to regain that faith,” Warner said Sunday on CNN ’s “State of the Union.” One week after lying to the American public that he wasn't in a photo with a man wearing blackface and another in a KKK robe, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam is still in office. #VirginiaBlackfaceScandal https://t.co/oUZ0A2tF1I — NewsOne (@newsone) February 8, 2019 It even appeared most Virginians have already forgiven Northam. Shortly after news of his blackface exploded, dozens of protesters assembled near the governor’s mansion in Richmond to demand his resignation. Today, there’s hardly a peep out of them. If a recent poll is accurate, Black Virginians are more willing than white residents are to forgive Northam. The  Washington Post-Schar School  poll that was released on Feb. 9 found that Virginia residents overall are split at 47 percent each on whether Northam should resign. However, 58 percent of Black Virginians want the governor to stay in office, compared with 37 percent of whites share their view. Herring, who reportedly has aspirations of running for governor, admitted on Feb. 6 that he, too, wore blackface while in college. His confession came after the first of two women accused Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of sexual assault. While softening his rhetoric on Northam, Herring was more definitive about the allegations Fairfax was facing. “I think all parties want some type of impartial investigation. I think that’s what should happen,” Herring said. SEE ALSO: Ralph ‘Blackface’ Northam’s Wife Gives Black Children Raw Cotton During Mansion Tour How Is Ralph Northam Still Governor Of Virginia?
