Brad Pitt’s new film, Killing Them Softly , features the actor as Jackie Cogan, the “point” for a hitman investigating the heist of a big Mafia poker game. Andrew Dominik wrote and directed the adaptation of George V. Higgins’ novel Cogan’s Trade , which was originally supposed to be the film’s name. It’s been nearly eight months since Melanie Amaro walked away with the inaugural X Factor title in America, but the talented singer has only first come out with her debut single this week. It’s titled “Don’t Fail Me Now,” it’s written by Livvi Franc (who is responsible for hits by such artists as Britney Spears and Kelly Clarkson) and it’s a message to Amaro’s hoofers, as these sample lyrics prove: “I’ve paid my dues, I’ve paid the price, I’ve prayed for you almost every night. The former American Idol runner-up finished atop the Billboard 200 chart last week, becoming the first openly gay musician to ever accomplish that feat. So, what does a talented singer do for an encore? He unveils the official video for “Never Close Our Eyes,” giving fans a futuristic look at a depressing world with not nearly enough color or dancing. But have no fear, Lambert is here! Here’s to hoping Crystal Bowersox has the same success as last year’s American Idol runner-up, Adam Lambert . Earlier this week, the unique, talented singer signed her first professional deal with 19 Recordings/Jive Records. Look for her to release a blues/folk/rock album later this year. “I’m really grateful to be given this opportunity to make an album and let people hear my music, and I’m looking forward to working with all of the folks at 19/Jive,” said Bowersox, who lost to Lee DeWyze on the season nine finale. Fans can see Crystal, Lee and company in concert this summer, as the American Idol tour kicks off its 49-date run July 1 in Detroit.
