Donald Trump didn’t steal every political and television headline last night. Even if he did once again slam Rosie O’Donnell during the first Republican debate of 2015. Jon Stewart Signs Off from The Daily Show Jon Stewart aired his final installment of The Daily Show, a special one-hour episode that brought back every former correspondent who has since struck it huge. Among others, Olivia Munn, Ed Helms and even Darth Vader showed up to send the comedian off to his farm in New Jersey, where he’ll be spending time with his family as opposed to all the time he’s spent slamming Fox News over the past 16 years. At one point, Stephen Colbert grew serious and told his mentor: “We owe you because we learned from you. We learned from you by example, how to do a show with intention, how to work with clarity, how to treat people with respect. “We are better people for having known you … I do not know what I would do if you hadn’t brought me on this show.” And then it was time for Stewart himself to say goodbye. Not that he wanted to use that actual word. “Rather than saying goodbye or goodnight, I’m just going to say that I’m going to get a drink,” he concluded at the end of the finale. “Nothing ever ends. … it’s been a privilege.” Indeed it has. The Daily Show host John Stewart announced plans for a “Return to Sanity” march October 30 in Washington D.C. which will attempt to tone down the constant political fervor we’re used to from politicians and pundits. “Think of our event as Woodstock, but with the nudity and drugs replaced by respectful disagreement,” Stewart said. On the same day, Stephen Colbert will hold a competing “March to Keep Fear Alive” which will advance the same message except, you know, through satire. Denis Leary may have used his Rescue Me costar Steven Pasquale to provide the punchline for a homophobic anecdote last night on The Daily Show , but Pasquale would like it known that he never uttered the gay slur attributed to him. “I am an actor, and I live and work in New York City. I can honestly say that half the people I know, love and respect are gay,” he explained in a statement . “I simply didn’t say it. I’m not capable of saying it, anymore than describing my black friends as the ‘N’ word…I’m afraid Denis got his wires a little crossed in remembering that story.” [ Queerty ]

Back on June 23rd, Jezebel writer Irin Carmon wrote a somewhat scathing critique of The Daily Show — spurred on by the tryout and potential hiring of geek pin-up Olivia Munn — succinctly summed up by its title, “The Daily Show ‘s Woman Problem.” What followed was a series of mostly off-the-record quotes and comments from former female staffers that painted the offices of the Comedy Central cultural kingpin with the same brush that might be used for a frat house or at least the Harvard Lampoon. Now, the female staffers of The Daily Show have responded with snark worthy of Stewart himself.
