Chris Messina on Monogamy and Chewing Out David Chase

In Monogamy , Chris Messina plays Theo, a burnt out wedding photographer who starts a side job that involves photographing clients in a more natural, unaware surrounding. When one of his clients with the provocative handle “Subgirl” (Meital Dohan) shows up for her session and puts on quite a show, it leads Theo down a road of obsession that puts a strain on his current engagement to Nat (Rashida Jones). Movieline sat down with Messina to discuss the dark twists of Monogamy , an audition outburst that led to him being banned for life from the future work of The Sopranos ‘ David Chase, and why it was unfair that Devil got caught up in the stink left over from M. Was Amélie Really the Best-Shot Film of the Last Decade?

That’s what 17,000 voters at American Cinematographer — the house journal of the American Society of Cinematographers — have expressed in a new poll, the results of which were slipped over Movieline’s transom this morning. The dates considered are actually 1998-2008, which I guess means Avatar will have to wait for its peer-anointed glory. But back to the original question: Amélie ? Really? Read on for the rest of the Top 10, a bucketful of runners-up, and to contribute your own choice.

Which Network Will Be The First to Jump on a Russian Spy Series?

And you thought Horse-Boy had the makings of a good Hollywood project. On Monday, federal prosecutors charged 11 people with being part of a Russian espionage ring . In other words: Spies! And lest you think this isn’t like some Cold War paranoia fantasy, the accused — who were “living under false names and deep cover in a patient scheme to penetrate what one coded message called American ‘policy making circles'” — partook in every spy cliche you could imagine: forged passports, false identities, messages written in invisible ink and even the exchanging of “identical orange bags as they brushed past one another in a train station stairway.” Suck it, John le Carré! Unless this is all an elaborate viral marketing campaign for Salt , the Russian spies seem ripe for Hollywood intervention. But this story is too sprawling for just a movie — it needs a TV show. Ahead, Movieline looks at the five networks who should be interested.

Movieline Casts David Chase’s New Movie

Paramount Pictures has announced that on May 8th in Manhattan, they’ll be holding an open casting call for the three leads in David Chase’s new film, “a musical-driven coming of age story set in suburbia.” So, basically, That Thing You Do! Got it. While it’s nice that the studio has given a modicum of hope to struggling actors everywhere, if you think Chase’s first post- Sopranos project is going to be some Todd Phillips-like free-for-all with a bunch of no-name first-timers, you’re crazy. Cue up some Journey, check out the casting notices, and take a look at our suggestions on who should star:
