Pill to live past 100 years old 2 years away

PEOPLE will be given pills to live healthily beyond 100 within TWO YEARS, a top professor revealed yesterday. The drugs – a spin-off from research into age-related illnesses such as Alzheimer's – are already being developed. Professor Nir Barzilai, one of the world's leading experts on ageing, said as he joined fellow scientists at a London conference: “Pharmaceutical companies are developing these drugs now. “They will probably be available for testing from 2012.” The astonishing breakthrough follows intensive research into what makes cells die – and why some people dodge major illnesses such as cancer, diabetes and dementia to live beyond 100 still fit as a fiddle. The New York professor's own team at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine has pinpointed genetic variants that let people live to a “ripe old age”. Those blessed with anti-ageing genes tend not to get seriously ill towards the end of their lives – but die suddenly. Professor Barzilai, among experts at a Royal Society summit on ageing, said: “I'm seeing 100-year-olds who are not only 100 years old but in great shape… For full story clic this link http://www.waneenterprises.com/forums/4/760/1 added by: Wizzane

‘Vampire Diaries’ Cast Reacts To ‘Bonkers’ Season Finale

‘I had a lot of fun being crazy and doing bad things,’ Nina Dobrev says of Thursday’s shocking episode. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by James Lacsina Paul Wesley Photo: Valerie Macon/ Getty Images On Thursday night’s season finale of “The Vampire Diaries,” fans were treated to a thrill ride of plot twists, turns and OMG moments. With some cast members dying, others with lives left in peril and still others with secrets revealed, fans are left salivating to find out what will happen when season two returns later this year. And while viewers were left stunned by the road the finale went down, even the cast couldn’t believe how the season all came to a head. “There’s a bunch of cliffhangers and surreal, strange things that occur in this last episode,” Steven R. McQueen, who plays Jeremy, told MTV News at the Young Hollywood Awards on Thursday night. “I think we all took it as a blessing to be able to play these strange situations that can never occur in real life and just feel honored and blessed.” Zach Roerig, who plays Matt, added, “Very eloquently said, right?” And Candice Accola summed up the episode, saying, “It was a bonkers finale — is everyone flipping out?” But what Accola wouldn’t dish on is whether Tyler (Michael Trevino) is a werewolf, an aspect of his life teased in the finale. “I plead the Fifth. I don’t know what you’re talking about. Who knows? I don’t know,” she said, adding that she also doesn’t know what will happen to her character, Caroline, after the car crash. “I don’t know. This is going to be such a pain in the butt for you ’cause I don’t know. There is a car crash that happens, but I really don’t know the outcome of it.” The show’s male lead, Paul Wesley (Stefan), initially had his fears about doing so much in the finale, but he was truly pleased by the way it all turned out. “Well, I was like, ‘Whoa, this a huge endeavor,’ ” he said. “The last four pages … really take the audience on a little bit of a thrill ride. I mean, the whole thing’s good, but the way it ends is kind of incredible.” His love interest on the show, Nina Dobrev (Elena), agrees. “I remember sitting in bed reading the script, and when I got towards the end it was so [crazy]. Every single episode of ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ I feel I am always shocked and surprised. … This one being the finale has to exceed all expectations and go above and beyond,” she said. “And I think it does, and it’s crazy and fun, and I had a lot of fun being crazy and doing bad things.” Did you see the finale? What shocked you most?
